A few weeks ago, I ordered a torta of carnitas. In the past, the tortas have been very good, this one was not. It had very little of the cárnitas, and one piece and only one small piece of avocado, the rest was all vegetables. Today, I ordered the shrimp burrito and a piece of flan. The burrito, in the past, had nice size shrimp and it was fresh. The burrito today had small, hard shrimp, and was filled with a lot of cabbage and other vegetables. It tasted nothing like it did before. And the flan was subpar also, they arent using the right kind of milk, so the flan isnt smooth, it has a lot of bubble holes, and the flavor was very blah. This used to be one of my favorite places to order Mexican, but unless the quality of the food improves, I'll be going elsewhere.

And, it is worth it!...and, not spicy like you might think of chorizo. My wife and I ordered the Quesadilla and the Basque Omelette, and we split both (plus, we took some home too). Each dish was really good in its own right, and being able to have the chorizo prepared two ways was great. Their home fries were really tasty too. - Service was good....very attentive, especially considering that it took us a while to decide what to order given the breadth of the menu. - We paid cash because of their sign indicating that that was preferred. Bottom line: We'd go back to Villa Basque Cafe anytime we're in Carson City...next time, we'd like to try some of their lunch options!

US Foods CHEF'STORE is a bit Costco, a bit Smart & Final, and a bit Aldi. This place would supplement a grocery run, especially if you were planning a large family gathering. Their direct to consumer model probably fits more towards restaurants, including supplies like pizza boxes. I found prices to be reasonable, the perishables to be fresh, and with good selections in places like coffee syrups. Gayle and I will continue to shop Raley's as our main grocery store and with small item supplements at Trader Joes. But for the larger guest feeds, we'll be back.

However, during lunchtime, it does get pretty busy so normally when we meet there, we meet after the lunch hour. Hacienda market and Grill is well known in the Carson City area. This is easily my favorite spot for breakfast and lunch. Bin coming here for a few years and surprisingly hadn't reviewed them. But they also offer nigiri pieces in a bigger package with one roll, for like $15. The prices are about what you might pay at a sushi bar ala carte. The quality is pretty good, good as any sushi bar in town at least. This sushi is waaay better than the pre packaged stuff at like Trader Joe's or Costco. Pro tip, fresh sushi does NOT keep for long, so eat it the same day, otherwise it might get dried out. Good to have a fresh made sushi choice right here at the Save mart! If you don't see what you want, just ask and they chef will make it for you! Each box has wasabi and ginger as well as soy sauce included!
