A group of us had extended family in town for a birthday celebration. We went out one night and booked a reservation for the 10 of us at Garibaldi's on a Friday night before Memorial Day weekend got going. We arrived en mass and were welcomed by an excellent staff at the door. As that our group for the most part were of Italian Mediterranean parentage all were pleasantly surprised at the numerous authentic dishes form which to chose. When our entrees arrived our group got very quiet-not an easy thing to do considering the persona of us overall. Excellent food, good wine, very generous portions with perfect timing in regard to the appetizers and entrees being served together. As we finished we asked that a glass of the chefs favorite wine be sent back in a show of appreciation. Slade came out and thanked us; we were surprised to see how young he was for the expertise in which he had prepared such an excellent experience. Naturally being the shy retiring wallflowers we are -NOT- we asked about his background and were pleasantly surprised again to find his culinary education had started with family and grown as he had. Garibaldi's was recommended by a friend of mine who recently had dinner here with his wife and friends. We started our dinner with the bruschetta that we both really enjoyed. My wife had the pork loin special that she absolutely loved. The side veggies were somewhat bland. I had the wonderful tasting cioppino and turns out it is lazy man's (you have to pick out the shells). After I picked the meat out of shells and wiped off my hands, I enjoyed the flavors of my dinner. To top it off, our waiter surprised us with the restaurants take on tiramisu. OMG! One piece is plenty for two people. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service is relaxed. A bit too relaxed for me but that my be the way italia likes it. read more

We go there on special occasions, usually 3 to 4 times a year. Have never had a bad experience. The food is delicious, service is great and the atmosphere is very nice. only complaint is that do is have lasagna all the time and arent able to tell you when they will. That is my husband's favorite so he is very disappointed when they don't have it. read more

This used to be one of our absolute favorite restaurants, so it breaks my heart to see some of the changes happening lately. I'm giving 4 stars because there are still some great things here, and I genuinely want to see this place succeed. The good: The pasta is still fantastic. My boys and my husband all ordered pasta dishes, and every bowl was huge, perfectly cooked, and honestly delicious. They were raving about it. If you're craving a generous plate of pasta, they're still doing that right. We also ordered the Prawn Melinsae -- a dish we always get -- and it tasted different this time. Not bad, not great, just noticeably... off. Hard to put a finger on it. Where things went wrong: My mom and I both ordered fish (her the Sole, me the Salmon). Unfortunately, both were undercooked -- mine slightly, hers completely raw. This was especially disappointing because the Sole was the entire reason we came for her birthday; it used to be her favorite dish in Carson City. We asked to switch to the Eggplant Parmesan instead because we didn't want the fish simply re-cooked and possibly overdone. There was a bit of back-and-forth at first, but eventually they agreed. The issue is... the eggplant wasn't the same either. It used to be my go-to dish and the best in town. Now it's totally different, and not in a good way. The highlight: Our server was wonderful -- an older gentleman with a genuine Italian vibe, clearly passionate about his job and the restaurant. He advocated for us with the kitchen, made sure we were taken care of, and even brought my mom a birthday dessert on the house. He saved the experience, and I truly appreciate that. Final thoughts: I'm not sure if something changed in the kitchen staff, suppliers, or overall direction, but the shift is noticeable. For a $250 bill, the experience just didn't match the way it used to. If you stick to the pasta, you'll likely have a great meal. The seafood, though, I personally won't order again. I really, really hope they figure out what's going on, because this place used to be a gem and I'd love to see it get back on track. Seriously, I'm a Cioppino addict, SF, Monterey, but Garibaldi's is the best I've ever had! The most fish, salmon, clams, Scallops I've ever had. Slade, the son of the original owner is excited about buying into the family business and it shows he's trying to be the best! Not filled with pasta like other places (That charge the same!) Price wise it's a splurge but not out of line for some of the Reno restaurants where the service is "stressed". Even less expensive than some places that seem to spend more of their budget making the place look fancy, than hiring caring staff. So happy to have such a quality restaurant here in Carson! read more

Once again, Garibaldi's did not disappoint. I had cioppino. It was outstanding. My sister had veal marsala. Our meals were so good! Cheesecake topped with cherries in a cherry sauce. So good! The first time we dined here, Bert waited on us. He was hilarious and he made us feel like we were family. We had him as our waiter this time, too! We were tickled! We were thoroughly satisfied with our evening. Rumor has it that Garibaldi's is a better place since Bert arrived. I recommend Garibaldi's to everyone almost on a daily basis. My friends and I had a a mini reunion and we enjoyed our food almost as much as our conversation and laughter . We enjoyed red snapper, medallion's of lamb, sole, and calamari. 6 of us ladies came here for New Year's Eve.... We arrived at 5;30 and waited 45-50 minutes after we ordered to receive our food. 1 dish- chicken della casa was served very much cold... another chicken dish - fettuccine Victoria- chicken was chewy and rubbery- I needed a knife, a third dish the pesto on the ravioli separated from the oil otherwise the ravioli were tasty but swimming in oil. They offered a free desert- ice cream and berries good- cobbler was like pastie dough. The one dish that was good was the cappellini shrimp and scallops. They must have a new cook, as the quality and flavor has severely declined. This was once really fine dining-not any longer. Despite fine dining prices you get a small paper napkin and a plastic place mat. I expect prompt service and some cloth on the table, not paper and plastic. Had dinner here at Garibaldi's with my brother and sister in law they moved to Dayton and I visit a lot.. we love good food. I arrived first so I sat at the small bar area it seemed there was only 2 girls working they acknowledged me and would be right with me.. I could see they were very busy that is a good sign.. there was a couple sitting at the bar we made small talk.. I asked what was good and it was my first time.. in the mean time one of the girls asked what I would like I asked for a glass of Cabernet which was very good.. a good thing. Back to the couple they both agreed everything was very good. I could tell this establishment has been there for a long time and I was correct 27 years that is a good thing. My brother and sister in law sent a text to get a table so proceeded and we had a nice table in the back corner where the girl who served me at the bar was our server, my brother and sister in law arrived we were very excited and the server was great this girl was swamp yet she still had such cheerful attitude.. she listed the specials, wasn't long she brought the delicious garlic bread and wine then gave our orders. I had the spicy pasta with prawns scallops my brother had the jambalaya and my sister had a positive dish. We were all very pleased. It was very, very good. This is a super charming Italian restaurant with really great food. We were skeptical at first. We had to wait 30 minutes while seated at our table to get any service and to see a water glass. I think they were understaffed that night maybe, but the waiter had such a good attitude you couldn't be upset. We had wonderful lasagna and the New York strip special was insanely good. I had heard about this restaurant for the past 2 years. We finally made reservations and went. The atmosphere was ok, not as cozy as some restaurants. We were looking at the menu when our sever came over very pleasant and asked us for our drink order. When she returned she asked if we were ready to order. I asked her if there were specials. And she stated them. If I had not asked we would not have known. Once we ordered our dinners I asked for bread for the table. (On the bill we were charged $5!!). This is an Italian restaurant, I'm used to getting bread with olive oil & vinegar. Our food came out and was served quite quickly. It was a pretty plate. I ordered Chicken Marsala dish of sorts. The rate was a bit off and the sauce ran all over the plate mixing with the vegetables and pasta. For 4 of us dining and only 1 had a cocktail the bill was $145. It was iOS food, but not outstanding. It will be a long while before we go back. Especially when we have eaten at La Familia in Reno!! Lastly the restaurant has a bar upon entering. Last nights bar crowd were quite vocal and several times we all turned our heads as the bar was louder than our table conversation. This place has 3.5 stars because of BOOMERS who are never satisfied with anything. The staff were fantastic, if anything too fantastic. The food was great, garlic bread is a classic, I had the fettuccine Victoria. It was awesome, if a little saucy which is great because there's never too much sauce. I am visiting Carson City on business and was craving some Italian food. Decided to come in to Garibaldi's. Traveling solo I decided to sit at the bar for dinner had some wine, a house salad with some really good ranch dressing and the capellini siciliana. Everything was delicious. The owner and his daughter made me feel welcome and the owner sat down ti chat for awhile. I normally am not a fan of small talk, but it didn't feel like small talk and felt like a genuine conversation. Saw some reviews about service being rude, not sure why they felt that way because my interaction with them and observing them with all patrons felt warm, welcomed and genuine. Don't trust the reservations message line! We called on 2/6/2024 and left a dinner reservation for our first-ever dinner at Garabaldi's at 5:00 pm on 2/14/2924 -- yup, Valentine's Day. I even have proof of my call on my cellphone call log. Arrived on time at the restaurant on the big day and surprise! -- there was no reservation for us. Host and another staffer acted like I was making it up, but I've attached the call log as evidence. They offered to seat us at the bar, but come on, it's Valentine's Day! We'd planned for a special experience, and that wasn't it. Went elsewhere. So, I can't tell you anything about Garabaldi's food or ambiance, but I can say the first impression in the door wasn't positive. I called at 6pm for a reservation at 7pm and got through to a voicemail that said to leave my contact info for a reservation and "if there are no openings, we will call you...if you don't hear from us you're all good to come in." We didn't get a call saying not to come so we headed on in. The server who greeted us took one look at our children, rolled his eyes and then informed us we didn't have a reservation. I explained I left a voicemail and per their recording we were clear To come in because we didn't get a call back. Dude literally scoffed at me and said "oh we are wayyyyy to busy to check the phones. I have a 7 top and an 8 top. Only two of us are working." He acted as if I should have inherently known they were busy? Not sure why he had such a gross attitude towards us and our children but it was very clear we weren't welcome, so we left. We won't return either. I get being short staffed and I get having big tables...but the attitude we received for literally no reason was astounding to me. I could never treat a client like that at my work and still have a job. Very shameful. read more

It all starts from the first impression. We called and made reservations the same day. Upon arrival (early dinner) were told we did not have reservations and the place was empty. We were sat in the back after some deliberation. Next to us was a family. The other table near us had children too. So interesting to Yelpers no kids menu at this restaurant but we were surrounded by them and they screamed at each other the entire meal. Not a family hater just don't need to hear shrieking kids. So let's talk food. Ordered the artichoke fritters and caprese for apps. Did not come at the same time. Artichokes were crispy and nice. When the caprese finally arrived it too was good. Weird that apps could not arrive at the same time. NOTE: No bread service so if you want it order the garlic bread. Entrees came before we were done our appetizers and the server looked at us and said "what do you want me to do with these?" Mind you there were only 3-4 tables of customers so it was not like they needed us to leave. I had a salmon special and the other meal was a penne and sausage dish. My dish promised salmon and manchego cheese with tomato and avocado. This would be a one star had the apps not been great and salmon was not cooked well. Here is the but, the salmon topped tomatoes were mealy and tasteless same with the so called manchego. Then the salmon entree had some weird sweet potato purée, cold pasta with some sort of cream sauce and a few garlic green beans which were the only side worth eating. Went there as a party of 6 for a birthday celebration. Made reservations and we were seated at the rear of the restaurant. Garibaldi's is a small bistro type Italian restaurant with seating for maybe 30-40 people tops. Once we got seated, there was a pitcher of water on the table and we were quickly given two baskets of garlic bread (which we did not order or ask for). Noticed that we were short on glassware and tableware and it took awhile for us to flag servers down to request the missing material (already a red flag). My family and I ordered an array of entrees, starting off with Steamers Traditonale and Martini Gamberi (plus the garlic bread that again.. we did not order or request). The Steamers Traditonale of mussels and clams was alright, but we had to ask for a shell bowl (shouldn't have to), plus we needed to ask for appetizer plates for the table (again, shouldn't have to). A bowl of clams and mussels came out that had about 2 dozen shellfish. We were disappointed to notice that about 7-8 of the clams and mussels did not open and we had to leave them in the bowl. That's about 1/3 of the appetizer! We mentioned it to our server and he laughed it off and seriously offered to take the bowl back to the kitchen and have the chef pry the shells open for us so we could eat them! We were appalled. He even commented that so far no one has complained about getting food poisoning or sick off of the appetizer! Are you kidding me? No restaurant in their right mind would offer to pry open closed shellfish and offer them up to customers. And any qualified server would and should know that shellfish that don't open up when prepared are not safe to eat. Anyways... ugh.. the wait time between the appetizer course and the entree course was a small eternity. The two kids at our table were restless and we all grew impatient. One of the major dealbreakers that really upset us was how our entrees came out. Our server brought out two of the entrees for our party of 6, then, instead of going back to the kitchen to get the rest of the entrees... he stopped and proceeded to visit with a table for well over FIVE minutes, talking about life, asking them about life, sharing pictures on his cell phone. All of this occurred at the adjacent table so we were all within earshot of their conversation. So more than five minutes pass and we all are waiting for the rest of our entrees, the two plates that are at the table are getting cold. Talk about unprofessional service. At the end, we get the check and the server tells us that he chose to not charge us for the garlic bread...perhaps hoping we'd inflate his tip instead. Uh.. hello! We didn't order it and we didn't ask for it! Basically, all in all, the food was good, but the service is seriously lacking. If we were to return, I'm almost certain I'd ask for my food to-go. Salt.... It's what was for dinner. Okay... I hadn't been back to Garabaldi's for 5 years. Had a horrible experience, never thought to mention it, just never returned. Fast forward to April 2024... should have done the date night somewhere less 'salty' We started with a Caesar and their delicious garlic bread. They were true perfection. Then dinner came out... we ordered the HUGE meatball and pasta to share, and, unfortunately from the over-salted pasta to the over salted meatball, our dinner was inedible. I thought it was my palate at first, but my guy, who is a huge fan of the salt shaker, could only choke down a couple bites. I had noticed that the young woman seated behind us had ordered the same dish and was struggling as well, so I leaned over and asked her if her food was quite salty and her face said everything She was as grateful as I to discover that we weren't alone in our pain of a salt shaker debacle. To say that the meatball was as dense as Tahoe snow-fog would be an insult to the snow-fog Gods. Even with a knife, it was like sawing through a pine branch. With that said, we all knew that there was nothing to say, other than, "doggy bag and check please!" We never complain. We just don't return. As we only wanted spaghetti and a mega meatball, it was obvious that the pasta, pre-made sauce, and hand-formed meatball was all going to be the same salty Karen at the table. Two stars because their waitstaff is the sweetest. Our server was the best and she deserves the most. So I gave her a 5, the food a -3, and it all averaged out in the end because our 2 dogs didn't give two spits about the saltiness and made out like it was THEIR date night and we stopped for ice cream on the way home. It was the cutest restaurant. Really nice decor and nice people. The Caprese salad was not the traditional one I was hoping for. I guess it was the chefs spin on it according to the owners daughter. See the picture of the salad. Its wilting and turning brown. And the bread not too bad, but that could have been a little fresher also. it was compacted like it had been frozen and re-heated. Then I asked for meatballs and spaghetti to go but they could not as they were out of larger containers. Another customer very near to me was asking for various items that they were out of as well. Too many things not available. Cute, cozy ambience and nice people but they were not prepared, out of too many things. And with this kind of restaurant I expect fresh food, not brown wilted lettuce. This started out as a good night for my boyfriends birthday dinner. We got there at 5:45 and seated early for our 6 pm reservation. We wanted to order the huckleberry lemon drop but they were out of huckleberry. We ordered the prawns at 6:05. The server came back 30 minutes later and said they never put them in and asked if we'd like to put in our order. We did. I ordered Linguine and clams, birthday boy wanted the veal ravioli. Again they were out. He changed it to Salmon. 6:55 still no food. We were done. The owner told me to fuck off and his servers were just as rude. The server had the nerve to lie and say we took a long time to order when she probably spaced putting our appetizer order in and blamed the kitchen. Probaby the chefs daughter and didnt want to get into trouble for the worst service ever. Do not eat here. They are awful and rude And their restaurant smells like a dirty mop. No joke. read more

Please call for a reservation and so glad we did as there were many that were turned away for not doing so. I enjoyed the special which was Sole, lightly season an egg batter with capers and lemon sauce with vegetables and a side of pasta. The fried artichokes were a really good appetizer. Five Stars, but with a couple of complaints. Con: I ordered a Dirty Martini. It was like a glass of water with a splash of vodka and a little sugar. Also, there was a weird coating on the silverware. Locally owned and operated restaurant with great service and food to match. Went here for my birthday and we went all out. I can honestly say that everything we ordered was 5/5 good. Here's what we ordered and would absolutely recommend: calamari appetizer, garlic bread, spinach salad with blackened shrimp, eggplant parmigiana, veal soltombucco, spumoni, tiramisu. Tonight a party of eight had dinner at Garibaldi's. Definitely, this restaurant is lower in food quality and service compared to 16 years ago. My suggestion is save your money - expensive and the food is not worth it or the service. Note if you look at the menu available on the website - it is outdated. Items are the menu are no longer offered and the prices are about double in cost. Employees have a nasty attitude with their customers. Shameful since the customers is who keeps the venue open. At this party of eight because of one person - seven others got to see how rude the employees treated this one customer. Salmon dish with pasty - lacked salt or favor. Spinach salad - could use more spinach and less of the toppings (which were not tasty). Overall, my experience of this restaurant is not what I had from the prior years. Downgraded their quality of service and food quality. Oh, note you can not ask for separate checks. Come prepared with cash if you need to split bills. read more
