I've come to this venue several times throughout the years and I've always really liked it. I came here on a date with my boyfriend for the first time and fell in love with the atmosphere of the place. What I like is that they have sockets for you to charge your phone at the booths inside which is great if you haven't had a chance to charge your phone after a long night. There selection of drinks are great and have a huge variety. As for food though, they cater best to vegetarians and well, people that eat everything. Not sure if they have any vegan options for fellow vegans like myself but then again I always came here to drink mainly rather than eat. I came here for an early Happy Hour on a Friday afternoon with my better half. I've passed Gramps about a dozen times going to other establishments in Wynwood. First off, their beers are all half priced. $3.50 for craft beer?! Insanely cheap for Miami! Gramps has the nostalgia theme of Miami in the 1980s. The tabletops have ads of Burdines, Metrorail, Jai Alai, The Mutiny, and anything else that oozes 1980s Miami. A major plus - they have outlets at each booth for patrons to charge their electronics. We waited a little bit at one of the booths because we didn't know if they offered table service. After several minutes, my BH went up to the bar to order. There were several other patrons at the bar, but it was nowhere being busy at the time we were there. The bartender made eye contact several times but it was only when my BH said she'd like to be served that he assisted her. We got our drinks which were delish. Later on, I looked over again and he had his cell phone propped to his ear with his shoulder, using a shaker to prepare someone's drink. We arrived at the same time as a beverage delivery so it seemed that staff was kind of scattered and maybe that was part of the delay. I'm hoping we caught them on an off-day, especially after reading other Yelper reviews. Because of it's proximity to my job and amazing happy hour specials, I would likely return to Gramps. Gramps is an absolutely rad spot off the beaten path in Wynwood. I've been here several times and I like to come during the day and chill on the patio. The tunes are great, the drinks are stiff and the staff is super friendly. The patio is cool because of all the fun colors everywhere. Besides the pretty good cocktails, and the scene on the weekends, I like that Gramps helps the community. Yes, a bar helps the community. Gramps has been host to so many events, I couldn't tell them all, yet some of the most important ones, in my opinion, have been the Craft Beer gatherings. I did not start coming to Gramps for such events, I was a regular Friday/Saturday night person, but then I started to get involved in these community building events and many of my friends are from those gatherings. Other memorable events were the "geek nights", where everything techie is discussed. I like that stuff also. Plus, they would play electronic music, which is one of the biggest markets right now. Wynwood is one of my favorite spots to be at especially on a Sunday. I usually go to Wood Tavern for the food and music but I wanted to branch out and was headed to Wakefield Brewery but they were closed. Gramps being neighbors to Wakefield I ended up there instead but, so glad i decided to go in and stay. This place is really cool with inside and outside area's you have plenty of room to hang with your friends. Later on in the afternoon they have live music and dj playing outside. The great thing about this place is they have fans all around with mist to help with the heat. They also have plenty of shade as well. Gramps is a cool little spot in Wynwood. There is an indoor and outdoor seating area, and a pretty large variety of specialty cocktails. I went to Gramps early, around 7pm, for their happy hour. I was able to get two drinks for $11 (a steal given they were specialty drinks). Our service was ok, a little slow, but the bar was pretty busy so I understand. In terms of quality, every time we ordered a cocktail, it tasted differently. For example, I ordered the Cucumber in Paradise twice. The first time it was spicy and had strong notes of cucumber. The second time there was no spice and it tasted a little watered down. However, the Old Fashioned was dope. Overall, Gramps is comparable to most spots in Midtown. There is nothing "special" that sets it apart, but it's a great time with good people. The decor is fun, the music is unique, and the set up is interesting. There is a difference between Hipster and Hip. Hipster is a determined effort to try to be cool, while hip is inherently cool without effort. To that end, Gramps is simply hip! I have read people compare Gramps to Wood Tavern and I take exception to that. Gramps is so much more than a scene. It is relaxed and unforced. It is quirky and fun. It is strange and welcoming, the way the home of your struggling musician friend's house would be, when people would just drop by, share stories, booze and um... smokes, while laughing and meeting like-minded strangers. Gramps is cool like that. Don't expect posh interiors and exteriors, loungy chairs, booming pop music or South Beach stylings. It has none of that, which is what makes it perfect. Gramps is jeans and shirts (tighter the better), sneakers and sunglasses (brighter the better), facial hair and tattoos (more the better) iPhones and cigarettes (one of each in hand, the better). Inside, there is a small bar with attentive and skillful bartenders, whipping up drinks as simple as canned beer or concocting gin-based Old-fashioneds with care... BTW, gin is apparently back again. Who would have thunk it? The interior is lined with wooden booths on one side, a DJ stand, an old timey photo booth and hilarious vintage Miami movie posters on the others. Don't even think of lighting a cigarette inside! All smoking is done outside. Outside, there is a large gravel patio with metal tables and wooden chairs and a Barbeque, where you can order hotdogs and small bites. Outside is where the magic happens... outside is where conversations converge and social interactions with strangers becomes the vestige game of choice! Happy hour is an amazing deal and goes on until 9PM, and the bartenders have a heavy pour hand. How can you not love this place? I do. So, stop talking about this place as another Wood Tavern, because Gramps is simply Hip, and that, my friends, is a rare thing that should be appreciated. read more

This was my second time at Gramps and I've definitely come to appreciate it a little bit more, if not for anything else, the drinks are amazing! It doesn't hurt that both times I've been a certain famous grilled cheese truck has been parked outside ;) This time we arrived with friends around 10pm and got straight to ordering drinks. Although the shipfaced sounded like "me" I was a little apprehensive of the spiced rum and opted for the Cool as a Cucumber. Perfect balance of cucumber, lime and tequila with a very spicy rim! Other friends ordered the Penicillin and I found it to be very tasty. One stuck with the true ingredients and one asked for bourbon instead of scotch and his version may have been even better! After a few drinks inside we made our way outside for some dancing! Next time I'm in Wynwood I'd happily pop in for a cocktail! read more

I really like this place... it's laid back, casual, unpretentious, good music, friendly staff... and that's not even mentioning the drinks. Every time I've been to Gramps I've felt welcomed immediately. The guys at the door, checking ID are friendly, they make conversation, and invite you right in, then the bar is the next thing you see. All bartenders are great! Ready to serve one of their signature drinks or anything else you desire, even beers on tap. My drink of choice is the Penicillin. This is a mix of scotch, mint, ginger and It's strong, not to sweet, with the kick of ginger which is so delicious. I also tried the Nazca Lines, similar to the Penicillin but with Pisco and mint, and the Rosemary's baby. This last one was a bit too sweet for me but my friends liked it. There's seating inside but, for some reason, I always find myself outside in the back. It's more spacious, plus you get to enjoy the nice FL weather (if it's not raining or too hot), and it's better for larger groups. read more

I've been to Gramps about 1/2 dozen times now. I've been here for events and to see bands this place has hosted, I've come here during bicycle pub crawls, and most recently I came here for happy hour with co-workers on a Friday evening. While I like the overall feel of this place, and I love unpretentious bars like this that have a little bit of a divey feel, I've always felt that Gramps is simply overpriced for what it is. The floors are bare concrete, the booths are made of plain, low grade plywood with a layer of varnish on them, and aside from the (small) stage outside, one can tell they didn't put a lot of time or money into bringing this space together. That's awesome, and the décor and lack of expensive furnishings is a big part of what gives this bar its character, but it also doesn't feel like a place that should be charging $12 for a cocktail or $7 for a draft beer, either. read more

This is a great "divey" type bar that is open real late during the week which is awesome! Nice and dark, just like I like my bars - and the drinks were reasonable priced. I had a good sized Vodka club soda and it was only $8. In Miami, that's a damn steal! This area (as most of you know) is a bit tricky when it come to parking, however, I was there on a Tuesday at 11:30 pm so parking was not a problem for me... can't really say how it is when it's busy. Nice addition to the Wynwood area. It's very laid back, and music is always playing. They've got an outdoor area for projecting movies against the back wall, playing bocce ball, or just hanging out. They're open Sundays during the day, so you can easily go from Wood's Backyard Boogie to Gramps with no problem. They've got some unique cocktails you'll want to try. Their Fort Union is perfect for Sundays. It's their own take on the michelada. Complete with rye, beer, some sort of lime juice, something else, and cayenne. Gramps is a Liverpool bar and there are only 4 Screens to accommodate what is essentially the Super Bowl of European Club football. We left at Halftime to head to Growler for more room. I first came to Gramps a few years ago for a Yelp event. I had a great time at the event, but honestly, I just didn't get Gramps. It was my first time in the Wynwood area, and I think the whole idea of the artsy/hipster vibe was just completely lost on me...the cocktails were good, but I just didn't see why anyone would chose here to hang out over other bar spots. Fast forward a few years later and I've obviously grown a lot as a person, because I had a great time at Gramps, and I think I can really appreciate it now. We came on a Saturday afternoon when Gramps was hosting a Sud Swap. For a $7 cover charge we were given wristbands and headed out to the courtyard area where various home brewers/small breweries had brought their creations for sampling. I think it's really cool that a bar that sells their own beer and cocktails would be open to letting other bring theirs in and serve them. Yes, Gramps got the money for the cover charge, but I didn't find a need to get anything from the bar on this particular occasion because of the Sud Swap. The courtyard was the perfect location with various booths set up (not even just beer, there were even some craft items for sale) and we were able to hang out and chat with beer lovers who are trying to perfect their craft. Now that I appreciate Gramps a little more, I think it's a good place to stop in Wynwood for a drink (the cocktail of theirs I had a few years back was delicious). They have plenty of room for larger groups with big booths inside and the outdoor courtyard. It is South Florida, and it can get a little hot out there though.
