I took my mother to this optometry center. She was visited by Dr. Leser. Dr. Leser is kind, knowledgeable, thorough, and compassionate. We really appreciate the service we received here. Inside is shiny clean and staff members are courteous and caring. There seems to be a rare culture of mutual respect and kindness present in this establishment. We immediately felt it. Kudos to those who run this place. Making an appointment was easy. I called and made an appointment on the phone. They send several reminders before the appointment. Make sure to check your texts and confirm. There is a cancellation fee if you do not cancel before a certain time. Little wait time and when I finally was seen, it was a very pleasant experience. I felt very comfortable and I was listened to. I have been coming here for years to get my glasses but in the last couple of years it was easier to just get my exams and glasses through my insurance HMO I recently damaged two pair of glasses not purchased from this optometry business and I needed them repaired ASAP. I had an appointment scheduled, which they decided to cancel because I did not respond to their calls and texts from an unknown number. Many people do not respond to or block unknown numbers. I work in an industry where I schedule appointments and, when they don't show up, it costs me money. I would NEVER dream of canceling the appointment just because they didn't call me back or confirm. I have too much respect for their time and myself to cancel a previously agreed upon appointment without speaking directly to them. They show no respect for their patients. I am very dissatisfied with my experience here. Over a month ago, I called to inquire about scheduling an exam. I was told by a front office member that the out of pocket cost would $128. I explicitly asked if this included an exam for both a glasses and contact prescription. I was told "absolutely it did". Fast forward a month later to the day of that visit. After a 35 minute wait, I was called into an exam room. The visit was fairly normal. At one point he asked if I was considering contacts or glasses. I told him I was still debating. When the exam was over, I was sent to the front desk to pay the $128 and was handed the script signed by Dr. Melnik. I didn't realize at the time that he hadn't written a script for both, just glasses... not even 5 minutes after I'd told him I hadn't decided which and asked for both options. The woman in the front asked if I wanted to discuss fitting for glasses or try on contacts and I reiterated my previous response to the doctor that I was still debating the pros/cons. She told me to come back in when I'd decided on either and said I could walk in anytime during business hours and I would be helped. I regret not getting her name. A week later I came back. As soon as I told the two woman at the front desk I was there to try on contacts, they stared back at me with puzzled expressions. After a quiet, brief word between them, I was told that I would need to schedule an appointment to meet with the doctor for an exam and to have a staff member demonstrate proper contact wear and care. I was confused and taken aback.. I'd just seen the doctor, why would I need to see him again? I came in, like I had been told to, when I'd made my decision about which to wear... I countered back and repeated what I was told after the previous visit- I could walk-in at any time. One of the women told me that she wasn't sure who told me that, but that it was incorrect. She smiled and offered to schedule an appointment for the contact fitting. Not wanting to go through another of their "miscommunications", I asked if I would be charged. "Yes", I was told, "It'll be $90. Can I schedule you for an appointment?" I told her I didn't think I should be charged for their inadequacy. She said that was just how it is and asked again if she could schedule an appointment. An appointment that would cost $90 on top of the $120 I was QUOTED AND HAD ALREADY PAID. Why would I even need to see the doctor again after I had JUST seen him... and what office charges $90 for a random staff member (not even the doctor) to show them how to put in a contact lens? Utterly bizarre. I asked to speak with a manager... she smiled sweetly and said she was the manager. Again she asked to schedule an appointment and I just walked out, saying I'd call if I needed their services. I did call- about 20 minutes later, after I had finished fuming- and requested to leave a message for Dr. Melnik to call me back. The next day he called. I told him what had happened and he didn't care. Not one bit. He told me that seeing him for $128 was just a 'consult' and the "actual exam" would be an additional $90... but then... why would he give me ANY kind of script if I hadn't been examined? I'm sure the California State Board of Optometry would love to hear of that... if he's even board certified. He quoted his receptionist, "well, that's just how it is." Realizing he had no intention of acknowledging his staff's error, nor his outlandish consult vs exam explanation, I hung up. So now I have to find another optometrist to just be able to SEE, and pay for another exam fee. Guaranteed I'll be asking the front office to provide a quote... surely all the offices in the valley aren't as blundering as the insolent 'professionals' occupying this business. Prospective clients, consider this review. I wish someone had warned me when I visited this page. And to Dr. Melnik, it's time to retire. Maybe you cared about your business and patients 20 years ago... you've clearly lost that ability. And Elizabeth? I just so admire your condescending tone with clients. If I could somehow acquire that skill, I'm sure my own patients would just adore me. Thank you for making my experience with you a memorable one. Dr. Mak is an amazing optometrist who is extremely thorough, caring, and has a passion for the field that is evident in the time and care he gives his patients. He is careful to weigh all the pros and cons and do thorough research to make sure the service he is providing you is the best. I have very dry eyes and wanted to have punctal plugs put in for the first time. He spent a great deal of time and effort to make sure they were comfortable for me and also was so helpful in recommending eye drops that I could use. Granada Hills Optometry Center is located in the same plaza with Jenny Craig, Rite Aid, Stein Mart, Blockbusters, TJ Maxx, Blockbusters, Winchell's, etc. The parking lot is quite big, so you can always get a spot here. I am so glad I am a patient here. I'm nearsighted, so apparently, I need glasses. At first I didn't really think I was going to like this place because there's a creepy male mannequin dressed as a doctor with a really huge pair of eyeglasses. Don't judge a book by its cover! This place is actually filled with friendly staff members and doctors. I have been coming to Granada Hills Optometry Center since 2006. So far, I have 2 pairs of eyeglasses from this place. I think there's a variety of eyeglasses for you to choose from given that it's a small optometry center. The staff members who help you choose your eyeglasses are very friendly and polite. An optician named Tracey is very, very nice, and I always had a pleasant chat with her. She helped me pick a pair of eyeglasses from Michael Kors collection. Walter is another optician who adjusted my eyeglasses when I picked them up. He was very kind when he tried to call me to let me know that my glasses had been ready to be picked up. I felt so bad because I wasn't home when he called, and when I finally showed up, he said with a smile that he tried calling me a few times. He then proceeded to adjust my eyeglasses and also gave me a free bottle of lens cleaner. Dr. Vanessa Ferrucci and Dr. Carl B. Melnik were my doctors of optometry. I phoned in at first to see if they could repair my glasses. I spoke to Nancy, and she said they could, even though I had bought my glasses at Costco. The staff was super friendly, and Jasmine, the Optician, repaired them in less than five minutes. I lost one of the nose guards to the frame, and she replaced them with a completely new pair. Best of all, they didn't even charge me for the simple repair! I said "Please charge me something!", but they didn't. I even offered to get the girls there some Starbucks, but they kindly declined the offer. I was shocked that they fixed my glasses for free! I've been going to Granada Hills Optometry for 20 years, and every experience has been fabulous. The team members are both professional and friendly. A great big thank you to Dr. Mak for being so thorough that he wanted me to see a retinal specialist due to an area of concern. I have retinal thinning due to lattice degeneration caused by nearsightedness, and he was concerned about a possible retinal detachment. Per his instruction, I followed up with a specialist, and thankfully, everything is ok. I'm very grateful that Dr. Mak is staying on top of things because retinal thinning combined with myopia predisposes me to a retinal detachment. Great service, as always! read more

BEWARE! Scam. We went in for an appointment for a prescription. We talked about glasses and contacts and Dr Melnik did an exam. We said we would discuss at home as to which we wanted to get glasses or contacts. Then we went back yesterday to get contacts and they want ANOTHER charge for exam for contacts!!! What?! He said we paid $128 for just an office visit only! It did not include an exam!!! WHAT!!!! After speaking with Melnik he said that's how it is!! What a RIP OFF!!! First off Dr. Melnik was nice and very professional. I am satisfied with the way he treated me. He messed up my prescription the first time bad, but took the time to see it was corrected. However, the lady you must deal with when finally ordering contacts is an awful person. I have very bad eyes and I'm dependent on my contacts and glasses. I went in based on their yelp reviews and since they accept my insurance. Payed my $70 for my eye exam and my insurance covers the rest. After 3 visits and a month of trying on contacts and waiting for my final prescription. I sat down with the lady to discuss costs. She told me for a year of contacts it would cost me $650. I used to go to a very reputable optometrist who only took cash and i never payed more than $450 for a complete eye exam and a one year supply of contacts. They want to charge me $300 more and that does not include what my insurance pays them. I know they need to make money too, but I cannot believe this type of deception is going on. They put me between a rock and a hard place. They make you feel like you have no option but too pay, especially after visiting them 3 times for the fitting. I went through this whole process and then they price gouged me. I told the lady i could not afford that right now and she looked at me like she doesn't care. I asked if i could pay cash and she said she would ask the owner and call me back. She never called me back. I am in desperate need of contacts. My current pair is expired and I am constantly getting headaches. I don't know how these people sleep at night, putting people through this. I finally called vision direct and they could dispense 9 months of contacts for ~75$ or a year and a half for ~$200. I will literally pay less quarter of the price by paying cash online. The unfortunate thing is now i need to wait another month for my prescription to be filled. read more

My whole family has been going to Granada Hills Optometry Center for about 5 years and we are going to switch. The optometrists are pretty good, but the rest of the service is awful. My husband and daughter have both been unable to get glasses fitted properly, though they have been back to the office several times. The front desk staff has a difficult time finding insurance records, even after all this time, and when I call to order contacts, I get a recording that says to leave a detailed message and they will call back within one business day to confirm the order. Well, once again, I have left 4 messages over 3 days and have no idea whether or not any contacts have been ordered. The offices are clean and look well organized. The equipment seems to be very modern and comprehensive and other than the front desk staff, everyone is very nice. It's not enough to make me stay. read more

This is the second time I've been here and walked away empty handed. The staff is very friendly which is something I must mention.... The first time I was looking for regular glasses...this store has a very limited selection of glasses to choose from. They are are basically the same style which makes it difficult when looking for a specific style. So that was the first time I left empty handed... The next time (after going elsewhere for glasses) I came in because I needed contacts since my eyes are sensitive to the sun and I want to wear my sunglasses again...apparently it's a liability for them to use another optometrist's prescription (news to me). They said that would be the case where ever I go... Well it's not the case. The next store I went to not only did I buy contacts but I also bought a pair of glasses AND prescription sunglasses. Phenomenal Staff and Doctors! Dr. Melnick was so helpful, and even brought out a diagram to explain a procedure I was curious about. It is my first time getting glasses, so I am sure you can imagine the difficulty picking out a frame. I recently was looking for a new eye Dr. And I came across GHOC I walked in inquiring in making an appointment and I was greeted with a smile and helped right away. They gave me all the forms needed so I can have them ready on the day of my visit. On my visit I was again greeted with a smile. The staff is very friendly. I maybe waited 10 min past my appointment time which in my opinion is no way at all (my old office was over a 30min wait). I suffered a leg injury and the entire staff was very understanding and accommodating. Dr. Melnik made sure I was comfortable thru out my visit. When it came time to select my glasses, I wasn't expecting to do that there due to my injury, but Tracey who assisted me was so friendly and accommodating I didn't even feel the time nor did I have to get up to make selections. She brought a ton of options for me until I found the perfect pair. I could go on and on but I'll make it short. Overall this is the kind of place that I would recommend without hesitation. Man, where do I start with these guys! First pair of glasses I got here were fine. Next pair, I immediately noticed something was way off. The guy told me I just needed to wear them for a while for my eyes to adjust. Wroooong! Something was not right and I took them back. He finally admitted that they made a mistake and they'd need to send them back to get fixed, which they did, and I got them back within 2 weeks. Next three glasses, same exact thing. On my most recent pair (2 weeks ago), I specifically asked him to please make sure they didn't make the same mistake. I was sure he was going to double or triple check to make sure it wouldn't happen. Nope! Still made the same exact mistake. Had to wait a week and a half for them to fix the mistake. Just picked them up today and they're fine now, but I just can't with this place anymore. At this point it's shame on me for giving them so many opportunities. Time to look for a new place!
