Food was packaged well, with the exception of the duck sauce that spilled onto the fortune cookies and condiment packets. I ordered the scallion pancake, which I found thick, gummy and oily, but tasted fine. The soup was good, it had large pieces of pork strip, which I could take or leave. The wontons themselves were large, but not in a good way. There was alot of wrapper and it was very thick. I would consider trying other items, but probably wouldn't order these again. read more

This place is not so Grand! It's outdated, food is mediocre at best and they only have 4 scorpion bowls in the entire restaurant. The restaurant and bar need a major makeover and cleaning. So first things first. The food, unappetizing. The beef with broccoli was slimy in a paper rice container which leaked onto my girlfriends pants. Burning hot btw. My garlic chicken? Decent I'll say that, however it was placed on top of BOTH of my sides of rice I had asked for separate. Last thing. I stop at Grand 38 quite a bit for Chinese takeout. This old school local Chinese restaurant offers takeout counter service with open kitchen and a full service dining room and lounge. The food here is pretty decent and priced very reasonably. I usually get the S6 Chicken Fingers (2), Beef Teriyaki (2), & Vegetable Lo Mein ($6.50) and Combo 1 Chicken Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice, Egg Roll ($6). The portions are good sized for the price paid. The pork fried rice (dark color) is very basic, with a firm texture and chunks of roast pork and onions. The beef teriyaki sticks are tender & chewy and have a sweet flavor. The white meat chicken fingers covered in s soft deep fried batter coating are not too greasy. The lo mein has sprouts, onions, water chestnuts and mushrooms with soft noodles, a bit oily. The chicken chow mein has mostly sprouts with big pieces of boneless chicken. The egg roll is very firm, filled with shredded cabbage, ground pork, and seasonings. The service at the takeout counter is friendly and quick. The food is usually ready to go in under 10 minutes (sometimes in 5 minutes) after ordering. read more

Gotten takeout from here a couple times now. Nothing remarkable but quick reasonably decent Chinese food. Until this past order. Chicken fingers were a tiny nugget of chicken hiding under a log of dough. Beef teriyaki was tough and tasted reheated. But worst part of all was the intense stomach problems myself, wife, and son had basically immediately after eating this food. Two days later and we can't keep anything down and this was the only common meal we all ate. I'd call and complain to the management but reading the reviews on here before writing this review, I doubt it would be worth my time. Won't be ordering from there ever again. The owner (Tony) is the coolest, when he first found out about my Celiac Disease he created a dish for me that I could eat (egg fried rice with salt & sugar)... it is SO delicious that I crave it often... This has been the only standing Chinese restaurant in Pelham for a reason, with the ever-changing hands of business down the road from it. But this place has been in Pelham as long as it has for a reason. Good service, fast and clean. I have never had an issue with grand 38, the lounge is never crowded either and is great. read more

Ordered food 1 1/2 hours ago so I called to get the status of my order and the person on the phone yelled at me. 90% sure he is the owner rudest person in the world and food is not great. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes it's awful. Most of the time is just ok. I just ordered a pu pu platter, and the food tonight was awful especially the boneless ribs, they were so tough and hard to chew. I think it depends on how busy they are. If it's busy, your food is fresh and usually good. I swear if they were slow you get reheated crap. My ribs were definitely not fresh!! One time I dined in and asked for a coke, and the owner was my server and he brought me a hannaford brand cola. I asked if he had any regular coke or pepsi, he then did get me one. I couldn't believe the guy is so cheap he tries buying generic soda and selling it. On New Years Eve, we went there and again, the owner was too busy shoving money into his several pockets on his cargo style pants. It didn't go in the register like the others who were ringing it up. It was like he was more interested in how much money he was making, then the line of customers waiting to get their food. I recently ordered here, I was deeply disappointed!! The food was all dried out, it tasted like it was sitting around for quite awhile, and it was cold when it arrived. I almost didn't want to write this review because I enjoy that Grand 38 is never crowded and I wanted to keep it as a hidden treasure, but the other reviews don't do this place justice. Please don't judge Grand 38 by its exterior. It might not look it from the parking lot, but is by far the best Chinese food in the area. I admit that if I hadn't known how good the food was from having it at a friend's house, I probably never would have gone in. But on the inside, it's incredibly clean. The kitchen is wide open and you can see everything from the entrance way; no secrets there. The food is better than any other Chinese place in the Pelham area and drinks are only $5. And they're definitely strong. I've also never had bad service and I used to go on a pretty regular basis. Really, if you want Chinese food, you can't go wrong with the Grand. I refuse to get it anywhere else. read more

We ordered Delivery from here a couple weeks back and it was pretty bad. I don't know if the fry oil was not hot enough, the oil old or a combination of the two but the fried apps like chicken fingers and egg rolls were like drinking hot grease. The filling in the egg rolls is right, but they do something different that I'm not fond of. I tastes like nutmeg? Odd. The fried rice and non-fried foods were meh, alright. We've tried the food here about 3 times since moving to Pelham a few years ago. I'd go here and order anything that's not fried as a quick lunch, but not because it's good per se, but rather that it's edible. Choices are limited in Pelham. read more

I always feel weird going here.. I'm not sure why. The food is okay, it's even better if you're having a few scorpion bowls with it. The first time I was here.. you were still able to smoke in buildings in New Hampshire.. so everybody seemed to enjoy themselves while sitting at the bar smoking. They have sushi but I've heard that sometimes it's way too warm. If you're looking for a quick drink and a Chinese food appetizer then head on over. It has now been OVER an hour. I call back. When I broach the subject of "it's been an hour" I'm told the drive has "5 orders, who knows, I'm busy" and then the dreaded "CLICK". I was hung up on. Yep. You TOOK MY MONEY, GAVE ME A TIME FRAME (shame on you, bad business) AND HUNG UP ON ME. A paying customer who essentially PAYS YOUR SALARY. So, I call back. Not only was I given the managers name, but his persons name as well. So, tomorrow I am calling back to Tony, to have a discussion about customer service, what it means, and that not only will I never go there again - not because of food quality OR the fact it was late - but b/c the RUDENESS is UNACCEPTABLE on so many levels. Last couple of times I ordered from here I have been disappointed...one time the food was TERRIBLE....
