My wife and I planned on taking a quick day trip to get some rest and time together and I had won a…read morevoucher for Grand Casino from a local silent auction. So we didn't have too many expectations coming in, as long as it had a nice hot tub and room, we would be happy. And that is what we found here. The rooms are updated and modern and very roomy. Beds are very comfortable and offer a good night's sleep. The pool area offers a huge hot tub which made for some good lounging time, albeit you cannot have drinks of any kind in the pool area, which was somewhat of a downer. The casino was not anything to write home about. We had some free play credits to use and the machine basically ate them without functioning correctly, so that was a total bust. Oh well, I don't gamble against the house anyways. Finally, we had dinner in their restaurant. The food was not bad. I enjoyed my seafood platter, it was filling and had decent quality seafood. My wife's BBQ mac and cheese was not great, more mac than meat. All in all, it wasn't terrible and we didn't pay much out of pocket for it. Finally, there is not a lot to do outside of the casino. There is a nice state park just up the road and you have Mille Lacs for fishing excursions, but not much more than that. I have never been to the Hinckley location so I really can't compare between the two. There is at least more to do in Hinckley. Oh well, as stated before, we were just looking for a bed and hot tub and that is what we found.

As far as the food goes, not worth the $60 for two people. The food was mediocre at best. The…read moreshrimp scampi was Chewy. The meat not tender. The crab salad -missing the crap meat. Minimal options for the salad. The vegetable they served w/o starch was green beans. Choose another place.

Had a great vacation with family here! We loved exploring the trails and relaxing on the lake. The…read morecabins are well kept, spacious and had everything that we needed - not to mention a beautiful view of the lake. The owners are great - we spent a lot of time hanging out in the store and enjoying free popcorn and good company. They also have cute and friendly dogs which is always a plus! Overall, a great experience - will definitely be returning!

Seriously, this doesn't get any better. Our first year here was under the new owners, but I…read moreunderstand that the previous owners were pretty good also. These owners are super nice people and beyond fair in their dealings. Free K-cup coffee and popcorn in the office, they actually bring popcorn to you most evenings as you sit around the campfire. Free donuts, juice, and coffee by the lake your first morning there. A fun "holey-board" tourney is a highlight. The only complaints about this place I have ever heard are by entitled folks who don't believe in parking boat trailers in the provided parking area and are otherwise rude rule-breakers in general! Rules are there to protect both the owner and you. The owners are NOT sticklers and will work with you. We rented a window A/C and they didn't charge us because it ended up being a cool week and we only ran it a couple days. The grounds are well-maintained. The driveway and area around the office are paved, so my granddaughter had a blast riding her scooter. Cabins are quite nice, spacious, and comfortable with nice kitchens... no slackers here. Newer cabins are VERY nice, and some have central air. Volleyball, playground, and a very large lawn for games. They have boats available, including pontoons. There are several docks and a swimming beach with lots of water toys. The lake isn't really big, so that means you don't wake up in the morning to jet-skis! Very quiet place, and they even have nesting bald eagles. Very close to Nevis and a nice drive to Park Rapids for shopping or to Walker for shopping and the casino. This is infinitely better than our previous resort home, both in ownership and in overall amenities.

Went with the family to the seafood buffet at St. Croix Casino Turtle Lake. It opens at 4pm, not…read moresure when it closes. The food was absolutely worth it. Prime rib, crab legs, lots of seafood, great salad bar. At 36 dollars per person with soft drinks included, very fair. Didn't try alcohol, so can't speak to that. But honestly, this is about the people. From the moment we arrived until the time we left, Desiree was on it. She wasn't just taking care of our table, she seemed to be everywhere, checking on guests, clearing tables, helping people, always with a great attitude. She noticed my elderly father was having some difficulty, and without being asked, helped him with his plate, condiments, and getting settled. The rest of the staff was warm and helpful too, including the carver, who was friendly and welcoming. One thing that stood out to me as a guest, we saw a table leave a pretty big mess, and it was a reminder to all of us to make things a little easier on the staff by stacking plates and consolidating where we can. Overall excellent food, outstanding value, but the customer service is what we'll remember. Desiree went above and beyond, and the whole team made our family outing enjoyable. Five stars.

The crab was excellent with prime rib and fried scallops! A full bar is right next to the seating so it's easy to order alcoholic drinks.
