My experience was extremely disappointing. Grand Central Watch rejected the transaction after claiming the watch contained non-original parts, despite the watch being fully operational and having been reviewed by two experienced watch professionals before I purchased it. I was initially given vague language about "inconsistencies" rather than a detailed inspection report, photographs, or a clear explanation of which parts were allegedly non-original. Making serious authenticity-related claims without immediately providing supporting documentation is unacceptable. I requested a complete written report and evidence before arranging the return. I recently took an antique Rolex watch that had stopped working to Grand Central Watch Repair, who BARELY looked at it, and said it would cost $2,500 to repair it (the same price they had charged me three years ago to repair it) and would take a few weeks. Grand Central Watch - Disappointing Experience As a longtime customer of Grand Central Watch, I recently experienced a troubling situation. When my 30+ year old watch stopped working, GCW sent it to the manufacturer and quoted me a price of almost $900 for a full service. After paying a similar fee to GCW only a few years back for a similar service, I declined this time in frustration and just paid the non-refundable $200 quote fee. I contacted the manufacturer directly to express my disappointment at the high cost to service my watch and they replied that their service cost was only about a third of what I was quoted. An over 200% markup feels excessive and unreasonable. While I understand businesses need to make a profit, this level of markup has broken my trust. After years of loyalty, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Shocked and appalled. After faithfully using GCW for years despite their high prices, I brought in a Rado watch I've owned for about 30 years. They had just replaced the battery two months prior (see attached image) and, shortly thereafter, it stopped working. They kept it for 2 days, then informed me the battery is good but the watch would need a "complete overhaul" for a cost of $750 (see attached image). I told them I'd think about it and picked up my watch. I decided to get a second opinion. After reading positive reviews about them, I took the watch into Daniele Watchmaker in Greenwich. In literally less than one minute, Daniele came back with a fully functioning watch; the battery had not been installed properly, and simply needed to be re-seated. No charge. Now the watch I've had for so many years is fully functioning. What's troubling is that (1) GCW replaced the battery improperly, then (2) confirmed that the battery was fine, and (3) tried to get me to pay $750 for a complete overhaul. All this for something that Daniele fixed in about 30 seconds. Needless to say, I've seen the last of GCW. And, fortunately, I've found an honest and excellent watch guy in Daniele! read more

I wanted it back within 5 months for a family event. The gentleman at Henri Stern (the Patek distributor in America) recommended GCW. GCW said they would try to get it on time but couldn't guarantee due to its age (1980) and the complexity of repairs. Not only did they do an amazing job, but they took photos along the way, the watch came back better than new, and they were incredibly friendly and informative during the process. I have 2 Minnie Mouse watches from the 1980's that have a lot of sentimental meaning to me. When you sign-up for an online account, you can track the status of your repair, which was super cool to see. Before I logged in to see where they were in fixing my items, I already received my 2 watches back looking perfect! The family operation is coming up on their 70th anniversary in 2022 and I can see why they have been in business so long! They sell new and vintage watches and specialize in repair. Customer service was good for the most part and provided a quick turnaround on a repair quote. My frustration lies with their repair philosophy and the fact that it wasn't explained to me at the beginning lead to a waste of time for everyone. Before I go into that I want to make it clear I have complete respect for the art of watchmaking and appreciate the time and skill required. As it was explained to me: unless you a. bought your watch from them or b. have a superficial repair (hands, indices etc) the only option is to do a full overhaul of the watch, costing over $600. The reason for this is because of their 2 year warranty, and the fact that they cannot guarantee the total quality of the repair unless they do the entire thing from scratch. While this model must be working for them, I personally don't understand it. I'm sure there are others like me who would gladly forgo a 2 year warranty to have the option of a service costing a fraction of a total overhaul. Give me the option to waive the warranty and then just charge me for the thing I need fixed. This isn't a perfect analogy- but if I need a timing belt replaced on my car, I don't need the mechanic to do a full rebuild. read more
