The pawnshops offer way more than this place trying to rip people off and low ball offers. They should be a pawnshop, insulting. Don't do business here. I love this shop, today I went for the second time to repair a vintage Seiko watch from my granddad, and it took no more than 10 minutes for the fix at a very reasonable price. The store itself is small but a wonderful workshop with classic tools and equipment that are, of course, still in excellent working order. It feels like you are walking back in time when you go inside. Note that it's not immediately obvious where to find the store: there are two stores with "20 W 47th st" listed as the address. His turnaround time was also much quicker. I can see how some people are turned off by the blunt attitude. Also he doesn't accept credit cards or checks. Plus, his store is tough to find. Again, if you come in with the right expectations, you'll find he does the job and does it well. I've been going to him for years & he has never disappointed. My dad gave me two of his Rolexes to hand down to my sons. They weren't working and in need of an overhaul. The vintage Rolexes, one was about 40 years old and another about 70 years old, hold a lot of sentimental value. Mikhail repaired them in a week, took the bracelet to a jeweler to do a repair on the 18k gold link bracelet that he couldn't do, replaced a crystal, polished and overhaul. This man is a complete ass. I brought in my Vintage Omega caliber 552 which I had unfortunately dropped. He opened it up and as I suspected the balance staff had broken. He told me it needed a complete overhaul, understandable. He quoted me $250+; very high but again, understandable. It wasn't until he called it garbage as is and offered me $20 for "parts". That's when I lost it. A vintage Omega Geneve all original parts, original dial, hands, movement, and never polished GARBAGE?! He was rude and condescending the entire time. I would never let a man like that touch another watch of mine again. Real watch guys, STAY AWAY! The only positive reviews are for simple battery and I now understand the negative reviews for mechanical watch interactions. Over the course of last couple of years, I have taken 5 different watches to him (2 of mine, 2 for husband, 1 for father) for cleaning, repair, and/or all around health checks. And I can attest to the fact that he charges way less than what a watch boutique charges and he does a much more thoughtful and thorough job IMO. Despite all of the positive reviews, I had a terrible experience with this guy. It's probably important to note that 90% of the reviews here were for very simple cheap procedures. He was not only rude, he was actually a huge asshole about everything. Every time i asked a question he shook his head and sighed at me. However, this is a watch repair guy so i will NOT let his attitude affect this review. This guy was so unpleasant i would like to give him 1 star, but, out of fairness, my watch is running and appears "fixed". I went in with a shattered crystal and the watch wasn't running. He suggested a complete overhaul for $500 which would take about two weeks and he'd call me when it's done. Out of laziness and not having any better options, I reluctantly agreed. Two and a half weeks later, i call him and he says the watch has been ready for over a week. I go in and ask for invoices or receipts for parts and what work was done, because, I want to know what parts went into my watch. He refused to provide anything, just got angry and shook his head at me, and repeated "you pay $500 for full overhaul" As i gave up and left he says "don't drop it, it will break" For all i know there's a piece of cheap glass over my swiss made automatic watch in place of a sapphire crystal, and i payed $500 for it. Really unsatisfied. People seem to give this guy incredible reviews, and I really can't see why. I'm give a lot of deference to "maybe today was a bad day" situations, but my work wasn't so difficult. I suppose he only gives quality work when you're fixing some money watches. I had a battery change and a re-sizing two watches. He quoted me different prices before and after pickup. The battery crapped out and stopped working and I ended up having to get it fixed somewhere closer to my home. Avoid it unless you're fixing an expensive or old Rolex. I hear he's good for that. My entry level Rolex, Patek, and Casio sports watch were not enough for him to: a) be considerate; and b) actual do quality work. Lame. After two separate jewelers told me that I had to buy a new band (hundreds of $$) due to the clasp not closing anymore on a movado watch - Mikhal spend some time with his pliers and was able to fix the clasp in under 5 minutes! I've probably gone about 5 or 6 times for various small jobs ranging from battery replacements to cosmetic fixes. I agree with most of the reviewers here that he's fast, really knows his stuff and I'd trust him with bigger jobs. The only issue I've had has been with the life of my battery replacements. A few weeks back, I noticed that one of the watches he replaced the battery in less than a year ago was dead. I found it odd that the battery died so soon, but shrugged it off. Then last week I found that the other two watches had stopped. So 3 watches died within two weeks of each other -- at most 9 months after I paid for (fairly pricey) replacements. So thumbs up that the guy will open your watch and get right to work while you wait, but thumbs down because his batteries may be from a table on Canal st. read more

I saw Precision Watch Repairs listed on Yelp and as it's near my work, I decided to give it a shot. There's very little reason for me to walk through the Diamond district, much less into a storefront hosting multiple vendors. Tucked away in the back is a small room, where Mikhail was waiting. He was very pleasant and had some choice comments on my watch (it's a TokyoFlash, so not your typical style.) Anyway, within a few minutes, he pulled the links out and charged me $10, which isn't bad. I can't think of too many places in midtown that specialize in watch repair. If you have a broken timepiece, or just one that needs a battery replaced, I'd definitely suggest you try this place out! Sought this place out because of the really good reviews of this place and I was not disappointed. I needed a battery replaced in my Movado 800 series diver watch which at first I had went to a local jeweler to replace and was informed that jeweler who had been working in this business for 40 years did not know how to take off the second battery casing. Arrived at this joint and Mikhail sat me down, looked at my watch, and told me it would cost $20 for battery replacement. He then began working on it immediately and I could tell he knew what he was doing. He asked if I swim with my watch and offered to water pressure test my watch for an additional $20 which I declined as I do not intend to swim with it. After reading my fellow Yelpers' reviews, I decided to go here and have my watch battery replaced. I don't have a fancy watch but I really like it, so I decided against going somewhere more upscale like Tourneau etc. (which, based on reviews, is not that great anyway). I concur with previous posters' comments, it is a bit difficult to find. I entered 20 West 47th -- it is a large room with dozens of counters -- each one staffed by someone trying to hawk their wares. They asked me why I was there, I said to get my watch battery replaced and no less than 2 vendors tried to persuade me that they could do it. I resisted and pressed on to the very back of the room. Off to the right is a small, dimly lit hallway with offices lining either side; most with closed doors. At the very end, on the left is Precision Watch Repair. I explained why I was there and was told a battery replacement would cost $8. I asked how long it would take, and was told just a minute. He complimented the Japanese motion of the watch and pointed out the crystal was a bit cracked, but didn't try to hustle me like the people at the front of the 'store' (which felt a little smarmy to me). read more

Mikhail is a gem of a man, toiling away quietly in his small shop - as said elsewhere, all the way back, then all the way to the right in a crowded complex of small jewelers and watch sellers. I needed the band of my Casio Pathfinder reattached to the head of the watch, and Mikhail had it fixes in a moment - also correcting a problem with the clasp that I hadn't even considered to be an issue. 5 minutes and ten dollars accomplished what would have needed $15-$20 plus the hassle of shipping the watch to and from an authorized Casio watch repair facility. I went to go see Mikhal to fix my broken IWC Mark XV watch. I dropped it and the minute hand hour hands were rubbing on each other and they would get stuck. If I sent this in to IWC it would have cost like $500 bucks, but Mikhal fixed in 5 minutes, and only charged be $50 bucks!!! He told, several times, that I was lucky tha I found him, cuz other guys would have ripped me off, which I know they would have.
