Not good at all! I placed an order for delivery. Than I get a call stating I didn't answer my phone, and the food was left in the door. I didn't get a call regarding the driver being out there. Only from the establishment saying I didn't answer my phone. No food was placed in my door. I call them back, and was told it was their error. The driver shows up with my food but takes the receipt why ? I started to eat my food, I thought that he may given my food to the wrong house went back and got it. I remember feeling excited walking in, greeted by the soft touch of the counter-woman and the gentle hum of conversation with those I knew. The food got by in a nice manner. The menu offered a nice variety of classic dishes. I'll never forget the first time I learned to use chopsticks here. It was a humorous, slightly clumsy experience at first, but the counter-lady was patient and encouraging, turning what could have been frustrating into a fun little challenge. By the end of the meal, I was able to maneuver them with surprising confidence--a small personal victory that made the meal even more enjoyable at the young age of 10. The food was quick to be cooked, though there were occasional slow moments during peak hours, which is why I give four stars instead of five, as well as this not being a recent visit. If I could rate this 0 stars I would. I've never experienced something like this in my life. I've worked in customer service and in restaurants so I'd like to think I'm pretty understanding and empathetic. My family always orders from here and we've never had an issue. Tonight we ordered a few things but I had a pizza roll and small veggie fried rice. When I got to the bottom of pint and took my next bite, something was hard. At first I thought it was an overcooked vegetable. No...what I pulled out of my mouth was the tip of a fingernail. A long one at that. I took the pint over to the restaurant with the fingernail back in it and showed the woman working the register what it was. Her first response was "no one here has long nails", argued with me about it and tried to give me $6 dollars when we ordered $40 worth of food. The right thing to do would have been to refund the meal and apologize. She refused. I'm disgusted and we wont be ordering from here again. I have no idea if they are under new management/owners, but they did change during the pandemic. That being said, I ordered a few times and did note the difference. But very surprised to see so many negative reviews. I usually only order chicken and broccoli here and ask for chilli oil. I had a friend that said so and so offered so much more. But my only question I posed him was forget about the amount you got. Did their chicken and broccoli taste better or not? There was a long silence from there. Tried this restaurant when we moved to NJ from Phila. over 50 years ago. The food was ok. We switched because of parking problems in Merchantville . We all wanted Chinese on this Monday night when our regular restaurant was closed and ordered from Grand China. What a mess! Food was very late being delivered. One item (fried crab sticks) was missing. On serving the fried shrimp dish, we realized the shrimp had been breaded with the shells still on. All the food was room temperature. In disgust, we trashed it all and got pizza. Do not order this food. We were afraid to eat it. The bill was over $30 and we all felt it was unfit to eat. You couldn't ever recognize the dishes look or flavor. I have probably eaten Chinese in over 100 restaurants in America. I have NEVER seen a mess like this. There are so many other places to try. I ordered general tso's shrimp with fried rice and mooshu beef. They forgot the rice. I called and they said "come back and get it". I said I'm undressed and not prepared to come back out. They agreed to deliver but not the fried rice I ordered, only white rice as that's what it comes with. They said I didn't pay for the fried rice. I said can you comp bc of the inconvenience...it was a solid no. I didn't ask for a receipt so I can't prove that I paid for it. This restaurant reuses food that are mistakes! I ordered pork lo mein and received rice instead they took the rice back over the counter after it has left the restaurant and was in my house. As a restaurant manager for years the number one rule is not to let food cross back over the counter but trash it. Picked up my order and traveled home. Realized they gave me the wrong item so I called. They then stated that I got exactly what I ordered. I explained that there must have been a miscommunication and could they deliver the item as I am only 2 miles away. They said no but they would make me the correct item snd I could come pick it up. I drove back and when I arrived they asked where the incorrect item was? Puzzled I said I don't have it and she proceeded to say, "then you must pay for this". I said if you want me to bring something back that you just have to throw away then fine, and I drove home again for the second time to retrieve the incorrect item. Came in the door like a bat out of hell and grabbed the food and ran back to the restaurant as my family, all except my son since this was his item, was sitting down eating and my food was getting cold. Went into the restaurant and gave them their food back in a fair trade for my sons correct item. Back home for trip 3. To whomever receives the food that I took back to them, just know that I didn't mess with it in any way. Lived in town for ten years and finally got around to trying Grand China. Big mistake. Not sure what the problem was but I placed my order online and arrived 20 minutes later to pick it up. Waited an additional 25 minutes before my order was ready. Understaffed during normal times (revealed after discussions with other patrons waiting for their orders) and now preparing orders for Doodash. Everything was really good, it's not greasy at all and the staff was extremely nice; there was some confusion around our order so they called me back twice to clarify and everyone was super friendly. Walked in, and almost wanted to walk out. Tiny place, two tables that fit four people each. Chefs and workers talking amongst themselves very quickly for extended periods of time in Chinese, to the point that you wondered what they actually had left to talk about... Ordered two combos- chow mein and general tso (safe bet, we thought). The chow mein was mushy and the chicken looked so questionable. The left overs are actually still sitting in my fridge, and will probably be thrown away tomorrow. Why not one star? Because the pork fried rice was okay, the egg roll was decent, and the girl behind the counter was cute. Maybe my dining companion and I just went on an off night... I wouldn't know seeing as there are no more reviews... But I wouldn't go back... Unless I moved to that block in Jersey and found out it was the best Chinese available? read more

Through word of mouth we were told to try a really good chinese take out place in merchantville called grand china... Well... I ordered hot and sour soup with special instructions of no mushrooms. Not only was my soup loaded with mushrooms, it hard a long black hair in it. Gross! My girlfriend got wonton soup, she said it was bland broth and didn't even have those little pork pieces that you find on the bottom of the broth you find in any other wonton soup. I also got beef chow mein, asked for it to be spicy. It was normal, had no extra heat and it was 90% onion! To say the least, we were not wowed. Great Chinese food, it's one of the only places in my area that make green plantains, normally they wouldn't but most of the Chinese restaurants in New York sell plantains, I haven't been to the location to provide information on it but I have eaten their food a lot since I've found out about it. My go-to is chicken wings with plantains, my partners go-to is steam chicken w/ white rice. We both enjoy it. They have good homemade iced tea, and great egg rolls, I wish they had things like long breaded boneless chicken and half chicken but they do not, but I believe I am giving the review for how the food tastes and my experiences with them over what they do or do not have. I've had a couple issues with orders being slightly incorrect but it was nothing crazy, like sauce on the side and the sauce would be in the chicken. Standard local Chinese food... ordered wonton soup..wontons we're good but the broth lacked flavor... cream cheese wontons. Wife said they were ok..I had the fried dumplings. They were standard Chinese food dumplings and the soy sauce was ok as well...the sesame chicken was interesting. It had more of a BBQ taste then anything else. Not sure I would order it again. Price was right for the food we got. Gonna check out other local places but this place would do well in a pinch. read more

We ordered a quart of General Tso's chicken, a quart of shrimp fried rice and a couple eggrolls. To quote my husband, "this is the worst General Tso's chicken I've ever had". The chicken was soggy and almost a raw texture (I asked for it to be crispy), and the rice was bland and unappetizing. I'm like, no big deal, it was probably less than $20 (my husband had picked it up), we just won't go back; I was appalled when I found the receipt and it was almost $30! I've been ordering from this spot for years - try to support local businesses in town often. The owners are nice, work hard and they're open late. The brown sauce is good and so is the rice. Unfortunately the quality of the food has not been consistent over the past year or so. I think they go too fast as they can get pretty busy- probably because they're the only shop open in town....The General Tso chicken is tough and stringy. Egg rolls can be great one day and totally undercooked the next. The shrimp can be quite mushy and the lo mein too. After tonight I am just done. I ordered tofu and veggies in garlic sauce but once home saw that the sauce was in a separate container and was like a sweet and sour sauce - nothing resembling garlic sauce. Honestly it tasted awful. When I called, I was told their garlic sauce is the same as the general tso sauce and was reprimanded for not ordering brown sauce. "Next time you order brown sauce, ok?" My bad, guess I'll go hungry tonight. No offer to fix it, just a bunch of attitude. This is not about money. I'll gladly drop $50 in a heartbeat. I'm tired of settling for mediocre.
