Bought a new 2024 27MAV RV, but the awning can't handle rain -- it pools, collapses, and Grand Design refuses responsibility.

We purchased a brand new 2024 Nexus Verrado 28S in April 2024, and it started falling apart…read more(literally) on the way home from picking it up at the dealer. Each time we use it, more problems arise. I've complained to Nexus, and they indicate they have implemented better quality control since our RV was built. They encouraged us to go to an RV show to see all the great improvements. Great! But we already spent our money on the one that's falling apart like a piece of junk. We've now had our RV for 1.5 years, taken it on 5 trips, and it has about 9000 miles on it. Here's a list of most, but not all, of the problems we've experienced so far: - On the way home from picking the new RV up from the dealer, the microwave door kept opening and slamming shut and the glass plate flew out and shattered. The latch wouldn't hold it shut. It was replaced with an identical microwave which also would not stay latched. An ugly external latch was added, and when that didn't hold it shut, a strap, like a seatbelt, was installed to hold it shut when traveling. We had to pay for that strap because, by then, it was outside of the 1 year warranty: the Nexus dealer said that they argued with Nexus, but coverage was refused. I contacted Nexus and they agreed to reimburse me, but then they changed their mind, indicating that the Nexus dealer's service department should have contacted the microwave manufacturer, and they denied that the dealer contacted Nexus... so too bad for me. They suggested I contact the microwave manufacturer myself! -on our first camping trip, 2 days after picking up the new RV, the fenders under cab doors fell off. -the water tank collapsed. -the slide hung at a severe angle. -the camper separated from the cab. -the bathroom door fell off. -the water pump failed. -some of the heat shields fell off. -the refrigerator slid out of it's compartment on one side (we found the attachment screws in the bag with the manual), -the levelers didn't stay in place and alarmed during travel. -the tiny horn, maybe suitable for a golf cart, but certainly not a truck or RV, could barely be heard. We replaced it. -the radio unit never worked and had to be replaced. -the tiny, undersized, under-powered bathroom vent fan did absolutely nothing. We replaced it. -a very powerful magnet had been installed in the bathroom doorway to hold the bathroom door shut, making it extremely difficult to open the door. One could easily become trapped in the bathroom. (I am not exaggerating... it was that difficult to open the door.) The door eventually pulled the magnet right out of the wall, leaving a hole with a long screw sticking out of it, and I discovered this when I cut my arm on the screw. We removed the screw and it's no longer a problem other than the hole that needs to be repaired. The door has a good latch to hold it open while traveling, and there was absolutely no need at all for this magnet. -the kitchen faucet leaked under the sink and had to be replaced. -the shower leaked behind the wall and soaked the bathroom and bedroom walls and floors. -the refrigerator only cooled to 50 degrees and had to be replaced. -the awning didn't retract properly. -water leaks out the left side of the driver's visor when it rains. -the rain gutters are set up so that the water drains directly over the cab doors, pouring a steady stream of water onto anyone trying to get in. -something's wrong with the fueling assembly and it's very difficult to get fuel into it (takes a lot of time, and fuel inevitably spills down the side onto the ground, even filling slowly with both caps open to insure venting). -and, most recently, the wall panel next to the stove fell off. There was a single staple in it, and that was stapled into the thin air. -We keep finding screws and plastic parts on the floor after we've driven the RV. - The ride is terrible, almost as if there are no shocks at all. Very unpleasant and uncomfortable, and the violent bumping and jumping on all but the smoothest roads is certainly contributing to the continuing problems I've described. Negligence on Nexus's part, including poor design, poor manufacturing practices, and poor quality control, allowed this RV to be released for sale. About 2 months ago, I asked Nexus Management to consider taking responsibility for this by assisting us with replacing it at a low cost ( or even no cost, under the circumstances) with the same model, but made after they corrected the manufacturing process and implemented quality control. I reminded them again early in September. Nexus Management has not responded

Lack of integrity…read more I ordered a Rebel in 2024 and the customer took delivery in 2024. Everything went well until a couple of months went by and I hadn't receive the spiff that Nexus said I would receive. Nexus had no problem taking our order. Kobe (our rep) has tried and tried to make this right and he totally understands where I am coming from. Today I was told that they are not paying it, remind you I have been waiting since August of 2024. I did my job and they should honor what they promised. As you know in sales some months you live or die by the spiff and this is a sizeable amount. It makes its difficult to back a product that doesn't back their sales team.

I purchased from Camping World…read moreSummerset, South Dakota a brand new Crossroads Rezerve model number RF231BH (I believe that is the model number as the writing is hard to read). I foolishly thought I was purchasing an upgrade from my previous camper. My old camper had a 30 watt plug in. When camping we were able to run the refrigerator, the air conditioner, an outside beverage refrigerator, the microwave, an additional dorm size fridge, and a crockpot. In 3 years of camping we never once had a problem. On Thursday, June 16, 2016 we took our new 5th wheel camping for the first time. As we were setting up camp we started the air to cool the camper down. I then went to make dinner using the microwave. We were unpleasantly surprised to find that we continually blew the circuit. It became apparent that we had to choose between getting the camper cool enough to sleep in or make dinner. That night my children ate cereal at 9:00 for dinner. My husband called Camping World the next day and their explanation was perhaps our site was adequately wired. I didn't believe it but I let it go. To make a long story short the exact same thing happened to us the next Thursday evening. Friday I called Camping World extremely upset saying we should not have to choose between making dinner and being cool. Camping World sent out a technician who decided everything was running as it should but that a 30 watt plug in is not adequate to run all the amenities that my camper came with. I was flabbergasted because why in the world would you sell a camper with amenities that are not able to be used simultaneously? I was also baffled why my old camper was able to run all of the above listed items and NEVER have a problem. This past Sunday night while trying to sleep the air conditioner mysteriously turned off and would not turn back on making for a miserable night. I have contacted both the dealer and the manufacture both who tell me my camper is running exactly as it should--word to the wise apparently Crossroads make a crappy camper and could care less. In short I feel I was sold a designed flawed camper (or perhaps a lemon) and was deceived into thinking that my well equipped camper could adequately power the amenities.

Anyone who's camped in a small space knows how quickly it can become challenging--especially sharing with family. So, when my wife excitedly said, "We should buy our own trailer!" it seemed perfect for creating our family memories. We visited dealership after dealership, touring countless trailers until they blended together. One day, my wife burst through the door exclaiming, "I found the perfect trailer!" Her excitement was contagious, and we immediately planned to see it. At Bish's RV, the salesperson warmly showed us the trailer. I specifically asked about an inverter, and she assured me it was "wired for one but doesn't include it." Comfortable with that, we discussed financing. She confidently promised they could beat any other bank by 50%, an offer that seemed fantastic. We slept on it and, convinced we'd found our dream trailer, returned the next day to complete the paperwork. After clearly agreeing on our maximum affordable payment, we were shocked to see the actual payment higher than agreed. Despite this, we moved forward, eager for joyful camping memories. Our excitement quickly turned to frustration. During our first trip, we found water leaking beneath the trailer when flushing the black tank. Disappointed, we returned it to Bish's RV, who also replaced a missing dust cap. With hopes restored, we believed our troubles were over. However, while winterizing, we discovered the water heater bypass valve wasn't functioning, forcing another visit. The following season brought more disappointment--the water heater wouldn't start. After a week-long stay at the dealership, we learned it was due to loose wiring. Our breaking point came on our most recent outing. My daughter sat down, and the bench collapsed beneath her. Her shock deeply saddened me. Inspecting further, I found the supports poorly stapled, careless and avoidable. Later, my wife quietly asked, "Does the fridge look strange?" Our hearts sank as we saw it falling into the cabinet, shattering our dreams of joyful, relaxing trips. Feeling disheartened, we contacted BishFix. Despite the warranty, they required a $190 upfront fee. We reluctantly paid, enduring a month of delays and frustrations as the technician awaited BishFix authorization. Another traumatic moment was the door lock failing, locking us out. Since we live in our trailer full-time due to my wife's role as a camp host, this was more than inconvenient--it was terrifying. After dinner with family, we found the key spinning uselessly in the lock. Panic overwhelmed my youngest daughter, who had a heartbreaking panic attack. Roadside assistance repeatedly asked for my details, promising callbacks but never helping. Desperate and exhausted, I pushed out a window screen and lifted my nephew inside to unlock the door. Finally, I drove an hour and a half to Bish's RV to speak directly with someone. After repeatedly explaining our situation, feeling unheard and overlooked, they arranged for a technician the next day. Upon arrival, the technician confirmed my suspicion that the blinds were installed backward. The always polite and professional service desk employee promised the Regional Manager would contact me. When he did, rather than providing solutions, he shared unrelated frustrations about delays on his expensive home project. Feeling even more unheard and dismissed, he eventually promised to evaluate our trailer's current value, leaving us waiting again. We've documented numerous build-quality issues, heartbreakingly evident from our very first trips. Photos show these issues clearly, but the emotional toll--the disappointment, broken promises, and seeing my family's excitement dashed repeatedly--is immeasurable. Even the door, randomly locking or refusing to open, symbolizes our experience. We share this hoping other families can avoid the heartache we've endured.

I have had nothing but trouble dealing with Nielson and I request assistance from Highland Ridge. Prior to purchasing this unit, I identified the following issues and requested that they be remedied. *Bathroom pocket door - alignment issue - hits handle on closet - doesn't close, door damaged on inside - hole and nail in ceiling by pocket door; *Kitchen ceiling - glue above sink and line between lights (this has been covered by something with a glossy/shiny finish while rest of ceiling is a flat finish); *fridge panel - deep scratches; *Sink covers - requested ones to match countertop instead of bamboo. After taking possession I identified more issues. 10/10/2018, (less than one month after purchase) I sent an email to Nielson listing these issues: *Slide out in bedroom leaked...carpet on bottom of closet was wet to touch, clothes and corner wall damp to touch; *Linoleum by carpet at end of bed has a row of staples showing; *Corner trim on wall as one enters unit, at bottom of steps.... coming off. They used two end pieces of trim instead of a corner piece of trim; *Step into bedroom is cracked, particle board underneath shows, needs to be replaced; *Window screens are popping out, will not stay securely in place; *The floor molding across the kitchen slide is buckling and needs to be replaced. Nielson gave me a recall notice for manual override access for front jacks. My trailer doesn't have a manual override for front jacks. Per Highland Ridge Customer Service, it is supposed to. Propane tanks are supposed to be walled off (industry standard) and they are not. *The axle has a 4400 lb. rating, but the brakes and bearings have only a 3500 lb. rating. *There is an electrical issue on the left side of the trailer. Sometimes the left taillight/blinker works, sometimes it doesn't. Same with the fireplace - sometimes it puts out heat, sometimes it doesn't. UPDATE 7-15-2019 I continue to have significant issues with my 5th wheel: *Neither heater nor AC work....... both have 32 degrees on the thermostat and will not change, neither the furnace nor the AC will turn on. I am freezing at night and roasting during the day. *Water System Issues.... something's wrong.... o When I flushed the tanks, the cupboard on the floor between the sleeper sofa and the fireplace, (above where water connection is on the outside of the trailer) flooded; o There is no water pressure in the kitchen.... bathroom sink and shower are fine, but the kitchen sink stream is smaller than/less than the bathroom sink; The water heater makes a grinding/whistle noise when I'm using hot water *The levers in the bed frame that are supposed to hold the mattress up do not work. Tried to get them to lock in place, they wouldn't. Now the hinged plywood covering the bed storage area is broken off from the hinges. *One of the black moldings on the bedroom slide-out wall is not properly attached - it flaps. *The fastener for the upper middle cupboard above the sleeper sofa was not properly attached and is hanging loosely. *Shower Issues: *The molding/sealant around the bottom outside of the shower was not properly applied.... nice and smooth in some spots but jagged and uneven in other spots; *Half of the shower floor has no support underneath it, *Missing screw cover .*The cardboard? under the propane tanks was not properly installed..hangs down and the propane hose hangs down below it. *Window screens are not securely in place and have gaps between the screen frame and the edge of the window; *The outside panel, between the bottom of the door and the top step is buckled and coming loose; *Front grey tank flap/handle might be bent....it is very difficult to open and close (from day one); *Bamboo sink covers - one is split in half *The slide on the screen door was not attached properly, has popped out and the screen is unraveling. I contacted Bretz RV in Missoula, MT. It would be a few months to get an appointment & I would have to pay for everything up front. They have horrible reviews and I don't trust them to perform repairs correctly. I work a full-time job and do not have time to take photos of everything that is wrong (some of these issues can't be photographed). Nor do I have access to funds to pay for a diagnostic review.... there are WAY TOO MANY ISSUES. Please send this up the chain of command to someone that has the authority to help me. Please find a company that will work on repairs, under warranty and not require me to pay up front. OR find one of your employees that would like a vacation in MT and have them tow a replacement up here OR hire someone to transport it These are huge, significant issues. If anyone in your company says they are not, I'll see them in court. Please help me......I have no other options.

When I got home I started going through the 'owners manuals' to learn about the various systems, of which there are many. The owners manual published by Heartland was last updated in 2017. When I reached out to Heartland for an updated manual that covered the systems missing from the 2017 version this is what I got: "Heartland does not create unit specific manuals. The universal manual that covers all units can be found at https://heartlandrvs.com/owners-manuals/. The basic systems in the units have minimal changes & this manual is relative to the operation of those systems & updated accordingly." The link they provided is to the generic 2017 manual. So, minimal changes to their products since 2017? I bet the sales team doesn't use that phrase much. I have since pointed out the gaps between my unit and their manuals. I will update this review should I get a positive response. This is some of the poorest customer service I've seen it quite a while.

An RV we paid a lot of money for (and still owe money on) was totaled and useless after 3.5 years. Our insurance said it is totaled due to frame failure, but Heartland refuses to do anything to help. Initially they told us to bring the RV to Indiana from Maine so they could inspect it. This was after we already told them it is unsafe to tow. They finally agreed to send an inspector to look at it, but his report was so clearly biased as to take any responsibility off of Heartland. He claimed we hit a tree, which is not true. All they want to do is continue to shift the blame to either us or our insurance company. An RV really should not fall apart after just 3.5 years.
