I recently went to Grand Eye Care for a long overdue eye exam and new glasses. Dr. Shabo was punctual, knowledgeable, and approachable. I felt free to ask her questions, even those I knew were really silly ones. Once the exam was finished, she didn't whisk me out the door like so many other places would've done. We spent some time at the front desk discussing matters totally unrelated to my visit, like books and movies. Her down to earth personality gives the business a warm and personal touch, something that is sadly lacking in many other eye care centers these days. Grand Eye Care also has a nice selection of frames, and friendly staff members that will help you make a selection, if you are indecisive, like me. The prices are super affordable. I have been having difficulty finding an eye doctor. I called about 15 places that would accept my insurance and it was either they didn't answer the phone or they were booked until 2021. I called Grand Eye Care and it was a seamless process. Dr. Shabo answered the phone (which was a surprise) and got me in the next day. They followed all COVID-19 guidelines and the office was very clean and inviting. When I was looking all over, I found this place right in my backyard. I would recommend them to anyone. The staff was friendly and helpful. My autistic son and I were called almost immediately. Dr Shabo was down-to-earth and made us feel at home. She never mentioned cataracts, like a previous place did at a previous exam I had 2 years prior. I learned about something I never knew existed-eyelash dandruff. She prescribed over-the-counter cleaner and a follow-up next month. That explained why my eyes were so irritated and dry lately. Plas I needed a slightly higher prescription. Plus they didn't push me into getting any glasses, just gave me a copy of the prescription when asked. Keep up the great work guys. read more

Dr. Fakhoury is a knowledgeable and caring doctor who truly focuses on patient care. I went in for dry eyes and pain in my left eye. He took his time and asked all the necessary medical questions and thoroughly explained the treatment method. He is very trustworthy and cognizant of the overall health and well being of his patients. Additionally, Dr. Fakhoury and his staff were very attentive to my financial situation and worked with me to provide glasses that fit my budget. This is the worst place I ever have gotten a pair of prescription glasses from in my life. They tell you when you come in that it will only take 7 to 10 days for your glasses to come in. When in reality it takes almost 25 days or more. I called two days after my eye exam and asked if they could put a rush on it, because I had lost my prescription glasses that I had. They said that they called 2 times in one week to make sure there was a rush on my glasses. We're going on three weeks over three weeks and I still haven't received my glasses. The bottom line is they lie to their customers in order to get the business and then they tell you that it's the factories fault not theirs. When they know exactly how long it takes. To Dawn C, the previous reviewer: Exactly the same thing happened to me!!! I just went in for a simple refraction and because I have vision insurance, Dr. Fakhoury kept on asking me to go back regularly to check on my "dry eyes" which only a simple OTC eye drops was needed, but somehow my "dry eyes" mysteriously just never got better (according to him obviously) so he made sure that I schedule another appointment every single time. This went on for months and eventually he maxed out my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket. I also overheard another patient complain to the front desk staff about this. And seriously, he's the only eye doctor I know who does this. I now go to a different doctor without any complications at all. My new doctor also told me that my old prescription by Fakhoury was wrong. I guess that was because he was more concerned about how to bill my insurance more than helping with my eyesight. I wonder how many more people were or are still being victimized by this doctor's unfair insurance billing practice! read more

I have been going to Dr. Kijowski in Melrose Park for many years, and so when he partnered up with Dr. Fakhoury at Grand Eye Care, I wasn't worried. However, apparently Dr. Kijowski is retiring and Dr. Fakhoury is quietly taking his patients without informing them that Dr. Kijowski won't be back. While sitting in the waiting room for my appt, I noticed that the bait and switch was pulled on other patients as well. The staff have changed, and the new doc seems to be money hungry just like the typical VSP eye doctors I've had bad luck with. They do their shady math on a calculator to show you how they can use your benefit. They cancel appointments on you, they tell you to come in for visits you don't need, and charge for services they barely provided. I had a scratch on my eye and came in to make sure it didn't do damage where I've had Lasik. He looked at the eye while doing the annual exam, but billed me for both even though he didn't do anything; then told me to come back in a week. He made it seem worse than it was, and yet didn't do anything but tell me an OTC brand of eye drops to use and try to sell me fish oil and reading glasses. I have two bills, both almost $200, in addition to using up my vision benefit. When he tried to tell me my prescription has changed for reading glasses, after I just had Lasik and was at 20/20, he said that I am not reading 20/20 close up and then had me sit and guestimate how close I sit to my pc monitor at work. Seriously? It's like he wanted my prescription to change so that he could rack up more charges. I didn't trust him and will be getting a new eye dr for my next annual visit. I miss Dr. Kijowski who never pushed his services unless you wanted them, and was always cognizant that his patients may not have much money. He was gentle, patient and kind. Dr. Fakhoury would do well to follow in his footsteps. Technology isn't everything. I would not recommend Grand Eye Care. By the way, the billing statement shows not Grand Eye Care, but Dr. Fakhoury Eye Care. Interesting how the website shows Dr. Kijowski as a doctor there, but he doesn't actually work there anymore. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Grand Eye Care from the staff and Dr.Fakhoury. Everyone was beyond accommodating and welcoming. The waiting room is very clean and they have a wide variety of frames to choose from! I was having trouble deciding and the staff helped out so much. I have had really bad experiences at other optometry office in the past, I was told I had 20/20 so many times and there was no way it was true since I always have difficulty reading exit signs on the interstate. When I was diagnosed by Dr. Fakhoury he ran through a multitude of tests and came to the conclusion that I had astigmatism! Ever since my glasses came in it has made a world of a difference in being able to drive and also aided me in seeing from a far distance during lecture for school. On top of all this, my frames broke 2 different times and both times the staff made the experience so simple and painless to replace. I would like to say thank you very much to Dr. Fakhoury and his staff. read more
