I love writing reviews about exceptional service and products but was sidelined by the epidemic last year, hence I didn't go out very much. Since my glasses had lost their initial luster I found myself in need of replacements. I don't like shopping around like some people so I hit the computer and discovered they had a really good offer from LensCrafters. After getting a car and in need of a driving adventure I went up to the HIP -Harlem Irving Plaza in Norridge (just outside of Chicago). I grew up in this neck of the woods in my teens and could hardly recognize because of all the changes. The store is located in the mall thru the entrance of Kohl's. This LensCrafters is huge and spotless with a wide selection of frames. I had an appointment and was greeted upon arrival. I filled out the customary forms for personal info and insurance etc. Then Mike, the Team Lead asked for my glasses to examine the current condition of the script. Dr. Samantha Madro was my Optometrist and really did a fine job with the eye exam. I was amazed with the changes that have occurred with improvements in technology for exams. I was set up for regular glasses as well as sunglasses and a clear and concise report was produced. Onto Jennifer Priebe the Optician for the conclusion. I had an idea of the frames I wanted and I am sure glad I allowed her to show me alternatives. I did need an expert opinion aside from my ideas. Needless to say I went with one of the suggestions that Jennifer made. She then concluded with seeking my insurance info making sure I paid the proper price for my glasses and explained the entire process. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the store and the precautions they took with disinfecting for Covid. A big thank you to both Jennifer, Dr. Samantha and Mike for their excellent service and putting up with my comedic/sarcastic ways. I have been coming to this location for about 5 years, the dr there is exceptionally kind. However there is a different store manager running this location and has absolutely terrible customer service, which questions how this company can let someone so rude and inconsiderate become management. She claimed to be with the company for over 20 years, and refused service to me while I was pregnant. Alway expect to be at the location for more than 2-3 hours after your appointment because they will take their sweet time. read more

I bought a pair of Oakley prescription glasses and the sales person recommended the blue light coating and insurance. The insurance was for one year and the glasses coating damaged the glasses a little over a year. When I went back to inform them they informed me it had been over a year and the lenses would cost me as much as a new pair. In the past it has only happened once in the 10 years I had been going there and store replaced the lenses even though I had no warranty as the coating is not suppose to damage the lenses. But I guess they no longer care or back up their products. I would not recommend buying from them as they have no ownership. The have lost a customer of over 15 years. read more

If I could give a zero I would. This place wasted my time not only once but 3 times! They made me come back 3 separate times and on all 3 occasions my glasses were too strong which I kept telling them that, yet they did not seem to understand that since they kept giving me the same prescription !! The dr who did my exam was very nice, but she was way off on my prescription. I was getting a headache and I could not see. I kept on stating I would like the same prescription I had, just a new pair of glasses which I am not sure how hard that is to understand . Another major mistake is they put my astigmatism in the wrong eye and then she tried to tell me that I was wrong. I think I would know which eye my astigmatism is in. They only refunded me for the glasses not the eye exam. I would not recommend going here. read more

I had called to reschedule an appointment that I made for the wrong date on mistake. I confirmed with the staff that my previous date had been cancelled and confirmed my new date/time. When I came in for my appointment, I was told that I had no appointment for that date. Absolutely unprofessional. I would strongly advise people to triple check their appointments to avoid the frustration of showing up the day of only to be turned away. Additionally, whoever was handling the phones on March 12, 2021 at 12:05PM should be more careful when handling appointments. read more

I went to this store with my daughter to pick out her new glasses. This is typically not a "fun" or easy thing to do. But, happily, we had the extreme pleasure of having the most wonderful Katarzyna "Kathy" assist us. She made the process fun and easy plus she took the time to get us the best deal possible! She is the consummate professional who is extremely skilled at her craft yet very friendly, and treated us like old friends. My daughter had a big smile on her face the whole time! She said "the other place didn't treat me like this! They didn't even seem to care!" Well, that is exactly why this is the ONLY store I go to for my eye care needs. In fact, I can't wait til January when I am due for my new glasses and I hope Kathy is there on the day I visit. I can't wait! LensCrafters - I give our entire experience an A++++ rating. What a great store and associates. After years of Americans Best (Biggest mistake of my life), Vision works, (nice, until one associate obviously did not want to assist my daughter), and now Lens Crafter. The doctor was very nice and explained everything to us. All the associates worked as a team, making sure everyone was being attended to. Very patient with discussing pricing coverage based on insurance. They made sure to cover all information with me, and that I was completely satisfied with my service and purchase. She made extra effort to help me utilize promotions and informed me on ways to save that I otherwise wouldn't have known. Initially when she told me the price I was going to have to look elsewhere for more affordable options and since I don't drive and had already come from a distance, it would've been quite inconvenient. I purchased frames from this location a week before, but she was able to refund me and repurchase the same frames in order to get the promotion on frames+lenses. I went to the LensCrafters at Harlem Irving in Norridge. I can't say enough about the great service we received from Mike. I was trying on frames and he came over to help. He stated that once I tried on a pair of frames they would be put onto a tray where they would be cleaned before being put back on the shelf which I found to be very comforting to know they are doing all they can in these uncertain times. The exam was so far off the mark. Very expensive. I should have known better than to go to a mall chain. This is the second and last time for me. My eyes are precious to me and their workmanship gave me blinding headache. The ophthalmologist who I ultimately went to asked me whose glasses I was wearing as it did not match his exam findings ! I said they were mine. He was very quiet then.. When I went to pick up the second pair, I was amazed. Gone are the headaches, dizzyness, etc. If you look at the prescriptions - they are completely different in every possible way. read more

I love this place. After my very poor experience with VisionWorks, I decided to come here, since my last pair of glasses were made here a few years back. Anyway, the Optometrist I seen was wonderful, very friendly, and explained things very clearly to me. The customer service could not have been better! They helped me pick out frames, respected that I was on a budget, and were very helpful describing all of my options. They didn't rush me, they took their time. They even checked out my current pair of glasses to see what was wrong with them! They made sure that I walked out of there with a pair of glasses that was right for me, and right the first time! Do not go here. I went here for a contact lens exam yesterday and before the appointment was initially told over the phone, by two different sales associates, that my entire contact lens exam would be covered under my insurance plan. However, after my exam, I was informed by the sales associate at the register that a good portion of it was not. Only after I asked about it, did the sales associate tell me not to worry and to contact my HR department at work or my insurance about a refund. This is simply unacceptable. This lack of disclosure now forces me to do more work. I would have never gone here had I been told the truth up front. Also the contact lens exam was terrible. The optometrist was completely off with the exam and almost prescribed me a lens prescription that was half the strength of what I required. Only when I mentioned that to the optometrist did they realize their mistake. read more

Historically, the service here was excellent. The personnel are still knowledgable, courteous, and helpful. Unfortunately, there is a recent and dramatic corporate-level problem. That is that instead of doing glasses in-house, they now ship them out to a lab - which results in long delays. I was told I would have to wait for as long as 2-3 weeks to get my new glasses, in spite of the fact that my prescription had changed and I was experiencing significant eye strain. In my opinion, this kind of delay is completely unacceptable and outweighs any other Lenscrafter customer service positives. I will not continue to do business with them. read more

I went in for an eye exam and new glasses (if needed). I upgraded to the retina scan - totally worth it. This was such a thorough exam that I am skipping a visit to the ophthalmologist this year! We checked blood pressure, vision, eye pressure, did the retina scan and more tests (that I don't know the names of). The doctor was extremely thorough and explained everything to me. The technician was great too. My prescription changed so little that I did not require new glasses. No pressure. They gave me my prescription, rang me up and I was out in an hour. read more

We went to Lens Crafters in the Harlem Irving Shopping Center because the frames to my glasses had broken. The woman at the desk, the sales associate, proved to be quite helpful. As it turned out the frames were discontinued at the Lens Crafters in norridge, Harlem Irving Shopping Center. However, the lady who took care of us called about 4 or 5 other stores to see if she could locate the frames at another store. The lenses were still in good condition and an appropriate strength. She was successful. We traveled to the Lens Crafters in Old Orchard. My lenses from my old frames were put in the new frames at the old orchard store at a fraction of the cost. Thanks to the sales lady's effort I had new glasses in about an hour with no hassle. I think Lens Crafters went above and beyond. Thanks Lens Crafters. read more

Terribly expensive! They have it all figured out here to soak you. We went in for the eye exam and some assistant started with the cover this eye and read the letters. What? An assistant? I told her to leave and we waited for the optometrist. The eyeglass cleaner the can't even give you after I spent more than 5 big ones. read more

Last year I posted a rant against the LensCrafters location off Willow Road. I stand by the level of disappointment. I stand by that rant. However, being a creature of habit, rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water, I went to a different location this year, 4214 North Harlem Avenue Norridge, IL 60706. SOOOooo much better. I adore Dr. Elizabeth Shelus, O.D. and highly recommend her. She knows her stuff! She is informative, friendly and extremely professional. This time around the experience was as dreamy as a trip to an eye doctor and getting glasses can be. The staff was thorough and accomodating and the glasses I got top notch! I'd go back. read more

it's actually been a couple months but...while shoe shopping I was fiercely elbowed by a woman who couldn't resist a sale. my sunglasses flew off my head and (dramatically imagine this in slow motion) she stepped on them. The wait is super long- with an appoinment. I ended up seeing a doctor different from the one I booked with. With no explanation. I was charged $80 for a Contact Lens consultation... the only thing I could think of was when the doctor asked me if I'd worn contacts before and if I remembered what brand... that was it. I was there for a contact exam- for $60... when I went to pay the bill was $189.00... for a contact exam, contact consultation and eye dilation- and I still haven't ordered the contacts! When I was paying the doctor walks up behind the lady ringing me up, they are standing back to back and he's telling her to tell me to pick out frames as well as contacts... I asked if they did an exam for glasses as well... niether wanted to answer me. I told them specifically I didn't want eyeglasses again.. repeatedly beforehand. When I went to pick up the contact trials they were busy, the lady at the register was rude and rolled her eyes every time someone asked her a question, The doctor I saw this time came back and told her to order my contacts- how about I try these TRIALS first? The lady behind the register was annoyed that she had to work, I asked how long it would be and she rolled her eyes and said, "Look around- I don't know. Maybe 20 minutes." I just left. They've called me repeatedly to order over the phone. No thanks... I'm not made of money and I don't want to give what I do have to them. I'll never go back. If you do go, be prepared to spend a lot and be ready- they'll try to pressure you into buying the whole damn store! read more

I've been going here off and on for 20 years. Every time my insurance is good at LC or I don't have insurance I come to this location. I've been to their 'less expensive' competitors when having to watch my pennies, and once I get past their 'in the door' specials, I find I am at the same price point as coming here. And the staff here is more knowledgeable than the 'discount' places. This location has the best, most consistent staff, amazing doctors and they always try to get me the best price I can get (check insurance against current sales). I treat my eyes really well as I can't replace them and my glasses are always seen no matter what I wear. My glasses are an investment and as I use them every single day they need to make my life easier in every way. I have tried the more economical versions of lenses and find I do get what I pay for. I now only get the better wider no-line bifocal and the easier to clean anti-reflective. When I buy them on sale the cost to upgrade is not that great and the benefit is substantial. I also recently took the plunge and purchased my first prescription polarized bifocal sunglasses. OMGosh! Should have done this years ago. With my insurance I still got a 40% discount on these as a second pair. I wear them even in winter on cloudy days! When the snow starts or is blowing I can still see the full rear end of cars in front of me on the highway. With my regular glasses it was a cloud of snow. I felt so much safer and wished I could bestow the same on the other drivers around me. Seriously, if I moved away and this was not my closest LC I would probably still make the drive. read more

The staff was helpful and gave some good recommendations. The reason I am taking a couple stars away is that they no longer make your glasses in about an hour. That was the main reason that I went because I thought I would have my glasses when I left. They are a little more pricey than others but I thought that I would pay the higher price since it is more convenient than waiting a week then having to go back,which I am now doing. read more

I purchase glasses from the River Forest location which told me they did not have a tech on hand to help correct an arm that was becoming disabled but i could go to Oak Brook or this Harlem Irving location. I called they said it wasn't a problem and the tech was in. When i got there the person at the counter said there was no tech today and i said thats not what was told to me on the phone. Then i got the deer in the headlights look like they had been caught in bed cheating on me. The ugliness the disdain of it all. Then she looked at the glasses and said you did not tell me these were wire mounted and the tech needs to know that. Well i bought them at a lenscrafters they should know their product. The Oak brook location had a phone number that was disconnected and other stores could not tell me the correct number or if that location was still open. I think they are a franchise like McDonalds of glasses. Stay clear of this location techs and all. Badly managed. read more

I had an eye exam here in December, and I was told by the eye doctor to give the glasses at least a month to adjust to them because the prescription was strong. Today, less than 90 days since they were ready for pickup, which I thought AARP said I could return them, LensCrafters said to me, "COMPANY POLICY, NO RETURNS AFTER 30 DAYS, IT IS ON THE BACK OF YOUR RECEIPT." I was shocked by LensCrafters attitude to me. There was no apology, or offer to remedy the situation. Now I am stuck with glasses that I cannot focus with beyond 10 feet. I am retired and live on a fixed income. I cannot afford to buy another pair of glasses and a eye exam. LensCrafters really hurt my well being read more

I have insurance and I was suppose to pay only 20 dollars and they start telling me that you need plastic lenses not glass ones and glass is not good for the frame I have so just to get an extra 40 dollars from me.
