We have been to quite a few bed & breakfasts over the years and loved our stay at the Grand Victorian Manor. Ken and Linda are the perfect hosts and run the inn with great attention to detail, making you feel like family from the moment you enter. We chose to stay in Booneville for a quick get away from the Kansas City area. If you combine it with a trip over to the Arrow Rock Lyceum theater, you've got a perfect little 24 hour trip. The inn is beautiful with four Victorian rooms to choose from and another three French inspired rooms a few doors down. All the rooms have private bathrooms, coffee service, gorgeous furnishings, access to their beautiful gardens, and an incredible breakfast, made by Linda. The Grand Victorian Manor is a true bed & breakfast experience with great amenities, food, service, and hospitality. read more

This is a beautiful place to go back in time. The decor in all the rooms has been completed to approximately capture the period it was built in. Visited for high tea recently and everything was as expected and much more. We somehow got mixed up on the time but now worries. The Innkeeper didn't miss a beat and was accommodating and welcoming. The starter was a delightful strawberry soup which was so refreshing. The tea sandwiches we equally delicious. The scone with clotted cream and lemon curd where the best I have had recently. Now let's talk about the cakes. I think the peanut butter bar topped with chocolate was my favorite. A very large chocolate covered strawberry provided the fruit we loved. The macrons were delicate and just melted in my mouth. To wrap this up, we had a memorable afternoon and would definitely do it again I hope you will give it a try. read more

I'm the one who doesn't want to sit around in a room but it's so cozy and relaxing here that I don't ever want to leave. My husband and I have traveled to Europe, been on cruises, and been all around the US. The food we receive at Amber House is better than anything we have had anywhere else in our travels. We brag to everyone and tell people they have to stay here! We enjoy speaking with the owners and hearing all their stories. The highlight of this trip (314/3-15, 2021) was the farewell committee headed by their youngest son who is just as friendly and caring as his parents. We can't wait to go back to Amber House. We know we will never be disappointed!!

My husband checked in for us and described the innkeeper as very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. He told him we would be leaving before breakfast to catch our flight, and we were left a continental breakfast basket with pastries and fruit. Additionally, he also made an early batch of coffee for us. The grounds were beautiful. Our room (Spelling Bee) was tastefully decorated and I loved that the bathrooms were stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. Additionally, there was a wet face wipe at the sink, which helped remove my wedding makeup, and was a nice touch that I've never seen at a hotel. I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked at School House, but it was a great experience that I would recommend.

Because I'm four years old at heart, we had to stay in the boxcar on our recent Katy Trail bike ride. Location wise? Perfection. You can see the trail, you're right next to the best stop along the trail (Meriwether Cafe & Bike Shop), and right by the famous Rocheport tunnel. It's wonderful. The outside is cool too because there's a hammock and a small porch, but inside is really cool as well. Old wood floors, two loft beds and a standard queen bed. Water is potable, there's a bathroom and a shower and it's what you need. The A/C runs nice and cold and that was perfect for us on our return trip over the 4th of July. The other thing of note is that bikes aren't allowed inside, and they offer a little shed for them. Traveling by bike means that it's the most important piece of our trip and while Rocheport is a super calm, idyllic, safe place, it's still hard to just trust leaving our bikes in a shed... or at least for me to shake my city mindset of leaving a bike out. *UPDATE* We re-booked this to come as a family and it was a stellar experience. The A/C worked so well on a hot day, the hammock was relaxing and we had fireworks going off nearby. We left our bikes out, including our bike trailer and everything was fine. Love this unique spot right on the Katy, and highly recommend booking it and relaxing with the easy-going flow in Rocheport.
