This is the first time my husband and I visited Grande River Winery. When we walked in, it was very open, airy, clean, and cool. Perfect temperature - some places turn the thermostat to brain freeze temp when it's hot outside and to me, that makes it miserable. We each had a red flight with four tastes. I really liked the Merlot and it had just a little spice at the finish. The Cab Franc smelled awesome and was very berry. The Cab Sauvignon had a beautiful color and bouquet but was little tannin heavy for my taste. I finished with the Cab Franc Reserve - intense dark fruit - and was in heaven. They have a little store so we picked up a bottle as well as a bottle of jalapeño peach vinaigrette. We were offered a glass of champagne on our way out and that was wonderful too! A great enjoyment for us was the presence of two large toads in the fountain at the entrance who were hanging out eating the insects. Super cute! read more

Grande River was our first tasting of the day. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their wine. The wine was nice, but not amazing. We did find that we enjoyed the Riesling and bought a bottle. It was a lovely tasting room and if the weather was a bit cooler, there were a lot of places to sit outdoors. read more

I arrived in Palisade at 5pm, and was saddened to learn that the wineries all close their tasting rooms at 5pm (especially since I needed to head out to Moab by 10am the next morning). I was pleasantly surprised to find that Grande River opens their tasting room at 9am (yes - I was that girl, in the winery at 9:30!). The gentleman there was very pleasant and spent some time discussing the various wines and my preferences. As noted, you can sample three wines (complementary) and an additional 5 tastings is $5 (I didn't do this, as noted above - needed to drive to Moab!). We spontaneously decided to stop here after another winery not realizing it was 15 minutes to closing time. The woman in the tasting room greeted us without mentioning their closing time and let us taste in a relaxed atmosphere. You each get 3 free samples to your choosing, they don't limit you on what you choose. So you can even get a tasting of their reserve wines if you like. My favorite has to be the 2014 Late Harvest Viognier. I'm not a wine snob nor am I a big dry wine drinker. But if you are in to sweet wines, you can't go wrong with the Viognier. Silky smooth with hints of peach, apricots and honey the pairings are versatile. The desert blush is also crisp and refreshing, one of their frequent award winners. We had planned to go backpacking the next day so I inquired about mail ordering some bottles home. They said that they don't ship to Wisconsin but made the perky suggestion that they ship to Minnesota. Why do people think that's like right next door? This was our first stop for a wine-tasting day in Palisade. We had a groupon for a tasting for two with souvenir glasses, and we were the only guests when we first arrived. Each tasting per person included eight tastes, so we got to try pretty much everything between the two of us. It was nice to sample the variety of what they all had! The woman who helped us was very friendly and answered all the questions that we had. At the end of our tasting, she gave us a bonus taste of some spiced wine she was making along with some cookies that were made from the mix. We ended up buying two bottles (they were very reasonably priced) along with the spice mix that we had tried. The souvenir glasses were plastic, so they were the perfect addition to our stores for the camping trip we were about to embark on. They also have us a really nice recommendation of a backroads route to Moab to avoid the bland highway- we loved the route, which we took the next day, and sincerely appreciated that tip! read more

Friendly staff, who took his time to explain how their wines were made, their flavors, and any questions that we had about their wines, which are btw, gluten free! We pretty much just asked to taste any of the wines on the list, and we're given a sample. Wines are reasonably priced, and my favorite was the white dessert wine. If you stay at the Wine Country Inn, this is the vineyard you gaze upon from your room and your closest spot to taste wines (an easy 5m or less walk up the road). They have a nice tasting room that looks like a wine cellar, although not huge. It definitely is a serious operation and they have a lot of wines to chose from to taste. Our server was helpful with questions and guiding us to what we should try based on what we like. Another plus, is they have concerts in the summer time! read more

You know how wine tastings start right after breakfast? I've always thought this was odd and usually struggled with my first tasting because my underdeveloped palate thinks wine at 9 am is too much. That was not the case at Grande River, our first stop of the day during our wine country trip. The wines here are delightful, as are the people pouring them for you. I bought the most expensive bottle of wine I have ever purchased from this little winery in Palisade, CO. E and I knew we were in trouble when we payed $3.50 for a sample of Grande River's prized ice wine. In 20 years of operation, the winery has only been able to make ice wine twice. If you're unfamiliar with ice wine and why it's so freakin' expensive, look it up! It's quite a fascinating process. Anyways, the bottom line is that it was the most amazing glass of wine we have ever had. So I invested in a $75 bottle with one condition...it gets opened only on the occasion of E's marriage proposal. We'll see how long it ages... read more

We had an excellent tasting experience here. They have a huge list of wines to try, with three complimentary tastings offered. My husband tried 3 of their reds, one being the 2005 Meritage red that they are known for. We found it very strong for our tastes. The merlot he tasted was ok. I tried the white Meritage and it was ok, then tried the Desert Blush Rose and the semi-sweet. I found the semi-sweet to be too sweet for me, but my husband and I both really liked the Desert Blush Rose, and we bought a bottle. Our tasting experience was lead by a very nice younger woman who was friendly and easy to talk to, and offered great commentary on our tasting choices which we enjoyed. read more

This is the first vineyard the lady and I stopped at, so it was our introduction to both Palisade and winery culture in general. It was towards the end of the day, so the lady didn't seem that interested in helping us out or explaining much. We were very much wine-tasting rookies and it showed, and rather than sort of help us out and talk with us about things she seemed to kind of snicker at us, and didn't explain each wine very well. The wines were decent however, and the tasting room was cute and well designed, and very welcoming. I ended up buying a bottle of Viognier because I'd never heard of it before, and thought it was a very delicious white wine, and I'm normally a fan of reds. They also (like many other tasting rooms in the area) had an assortment of oils and jellies and jams for sale, and also had some fun kinds of vinegar, so we sampled some of those as well. While the staff wasn't the best, it was a really fun first experience in wine-tasting-land. read more

Pours were a bit small, I realize they are just a taste but barely enough to give me the taste I need to know if I want to purchase. Not size as far as portion, but size as far as selection. We visited 7 wineries that day alone and it was the only one who gave three free pours as opposed to five. They are very good wines though. Very nice winery with helpful and welcoming staff. Also, the Yelp check-in 10% off discount worked, so hooray! Wines from the western slope tend to be on the fruity side, but I had good wines previously from Grande Vineyards and wanted to visit the physical location. Everyone gets 3 complimentary tastings. The tasting area itself isn't very large, and it was a bit crowded that afternoon given that it was the same weekend as the Peach Fest. I'm a red wine person, but we walked out of there with a bottle of delicious viognier. I was a little disappointed I didn't find a good enough red, but I view this as expanding my palate. I guess given the large impressive doors, I was expecting something a little more "grand" by being able to purchase a platter of cheese and sausage or something to go with a glass of wine and sit outside or by a fireplace as I've experienced at a couple other wineries. GV is one of the larger vineyards in Colorado, and with their convenient location just off I-70, I recommend you stop by! read more

We really liked this winery. The fact that they opened at 9am when the others opened at 10am (and on Easter Sunday) decided the start of our route. The staff member was great, very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a few weeks ago now so my memory could be a little off but I believe it was 4 free tastings each. My hubby and I shared ours so we chose 8 different wines. They have a huge selection. We liked at least 3 of them and took a bottle home with us. Will certainly be back when in the area. read more

What a lovely place:) We stayed at the hotel next door and wandered over to start some tastings. They start the earliest of them all, I **think around 9 or 10. They have some awesome wines, I really liked the Lavender one! The service was great, and they have all kinds of stuff to look at and purchase. The white wines were pretty good. The guy that served us was very nice, a little unknowable about some of the wines but he also said he just started last week. There was a lavender infused white wine that was very interesting, not as sweet as you would expect. The Riesling however was VERY sweet. Sauvignon Blanc was on point. They also had pretzels sitting out to cleanse your palate, a lot of the wineries we went to didn't have out crackers or anything. read more

Originally, loved this winery. We're from wine country in California and were happy to find a variety of wines in Colorado that we enjoyed. The first couple times in, we were treated kindly and enjoyed our tasting and purchased cases of wine and other souvenirs. However. We brought an out of town friend there a couple weeks ago.... showed up with our dogs, as we had with ALL previous visits. The lady behind the counter stopped us before we even had our feet in the door, saying dogs were not allowed. We said we had been in many times before with our dogs without issue. She insisted they were no longer allowed unless service dogs. I then informed her that the one dog was indeed a service dog for my husband who is a disabled veteran, and the other was my 8yo companion who is very well behaved and wouldn't cause any issues. She proceeded to say that we needed "registration paperwork" for the service dog or we could tie them outside. When we informed her that it is illegal to ask for paperwork, she told us to leave. I no longer support this winery and when my family visits from California, we will not be supporting their business. They are missing out on hundreds if not thousands of dollars of sales because of their illegal "rules". I will be reporting them to the ADA as well since the bartender insisted she knew the "rules" which are in fact false. My review is to let you know the caliber of people you are supporting by going to their winery. read more

Great wine and what a terrific selection. While they charge you for more tastings unlike other vineyards in the area this place certainly had the boldest flavors. I purchased a bottle of their meritage and highly recommend it (or its white version) to anyone looking for a great example of the blend. Grande River Vineyards is very hit-or-miss - I've gotten favorite wines here, and I've hated some samples thoroughly. After a couple of disappointing sips, I was thrilled to leave with a delicious bottle of meritage red this summer, but sad that they didn't have any petit verdot (a favorite from a prior trip). We try to hit wineries when we travel and glad we went to this one. As red drinkers, there were several reds that were very good and under the $20 mark. Their reserves ($30+) were also excellent. The Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier were also very good. If the tasting room is busy, it is a little slow on the service. Not that we were in a rush, but just a little manic. The tasting set up is not all that smooth with a large refrigerator that is a way from the bar being opened and closed constantly. But, not my tasting room! Very friendly staff and would stop again. A very pleasant ambiance when you walk in. Easily accessible and some of the longer times for a visit, they open at 9 AM. A knowledgeable and pleasant staff guided us through the tasting, which is complimentary; sharing allowed us to make good choices for what we wanted to bring home. This is the first time that I have written an updated review on any business on any website, so I do not know whether it will over-write my original review but a follow-up is necessary in this case. Please take the time to read this review in its entirety. My wife and I visited Grande River Vineyards on a three week long road trip. We were not pleased with our experience there for service reasons, which prompted a negative review that I wrote on Yelp. We enjoyed the wines, but simply wrote off the business over the experience. I was surprised when only a day later, I received a message from the winery after having read my review. They expressed concern and displeasure about our experience and wanted to rectify it immediately. Because we were on the road, it took quite a while for me to respond. I recounted the experience in greater detail and we exchanged several emails. They have sought to rectify the situation in a truly exemplary manner and I am both surprised and grateful for such an effort. I simply can't think of a time when a business made such an effort and I offered to remove my negative review. They asked me to leave it and offer another review after my next visit. I will do that, but I think it's fair to evaluate them on the basis of their subsequent interaction because it's such an uncommon experience. read more
