Grandma's not in the kitchen any more! Not sure what has happened because we've been going here for years and it's always been really good, but tonight was really bad. The pot roast was terrible. It wasn't anything like what they have always served in the past. It tasted like processed meat. The baked potatoes were old and hard. The rice pudding was watery and tasted terrible. We couldn't even eat it. The most upsetting part, though, was that when we checked out and told the gentleman at the register that we didn't enjoy our dinners, he truly didn't care. After reading the reviews, and being new to the area, I decided to try Grandma's. After the hostess sat me, it was 15 minutes for a server to show up. I gave her my drink order which took another 10 minutes or so. Service was horrible, and the food was very disappointing. They got my sides wrong, and did nothing to fix it. This will be the last visit to eat at Grandmas table 1700 Douglas Rd., Montgomery Illinois. Two other visits proved we should not have gone back. Just a heads up, my reference diner was Grandmas Sally's in Naperville Illinois. This was a real diner that always knew how to get everything right. So to begin, the table and chair were full of previous customer's crumbs. Gross! The waitress brings you a nice selection of bread, but it is always a little stale. The waitress was friendly. The food is not good. Let me explain. My Mom got a Broasted chicken dish that was OK. The side was peas. To my surprise, they were canned peas. What restaurant uses canned peas in 2019? Her soup was chicken rice. I looked closely as my Mom was eating it. I saw ONE piece of chicken and ONE small piece of a vegetable in the whole large bowl! The rest was high salt and cheap corn starch to thicken. My wife had a hamburger with no sides. The burger toppings (I hate to even call them that) included a limp (full of bug holes) piece of lettuce and one slice of pale, non-ripe tomato - what you would normally throw out. They looked like the previous customers toppings from three days ago, I kid you not! I had a veggie hobo skillet. I pulled out SIX HUGE broccoli stem sections. These are the type of stem you cut off and throw out, not the stem below the flower of the broccoli, the stem all the way at the base where you trim and throw out. The mushrooms were CANNED! My advice is stay away from the restaurant. There are other diners nearby that are much better value and quality. read more

Come to Grandma's Table hungry, because the portions are more than adequate. Never had a problem getting seated or greeted by a server quickly. Also, very reasonably priced. I was not happy with my visit to grandmas table. I felt as if they thought we were invisible to the whole world. It took a long time to be seated when it obviously wasn't that busy inside. Once seated we got our drink order taken and another 10 minutes or so and we didn't see or hear from anyone. After asking they got our drinks and they weren't even correct. Last weekend I had the worst experience there I never write bad reviews but I had ordered a chicken salad and the chicken wasn't even cooked fully it was hard and pink , also my bf ordered chicken and waffles and the chicken was pink and hard as well felt like we were being rushed to eat because originally ordered my salad to eat there and she brought my salad to go mind you it was two hours before closing. Absolutely delicious breakfast. Got the Chorizo skillet and I ketoed it by leaving off the hash browns. They let me substitute a side salad which was perfect cause I was craving salad. Grandma's Table is just another diner serving greasy, but filling, breakfast, lunch and dinner for a low price. The decor is dated; it's very "diner chic." I walked in around 4:00 p.m. on a Friday. Other than myself, there was a couple dining on the other side of the restaurant. They left shortly after I arrived, leaving me as the only patron. There were 3 waitresses on staff, this place has got to be losing money. On my way out, another patron walked in for his lonely dining experience. It was awkward, because I could see the 3 waitresses congregating from where I was sitting, and I got that paranoid feeling they were watching me. Based on other reviews, breakfast seems to be a busier time of day. The other options in the area (KFC, Burger King, a Chinese restaurant) make Grandma's Table an appealing option. Because of it's location and proximity to, well, nothing better, I have to give it a better score than if it were in a busier area with better options. The food was, overall, edible and satisfied my hunger. The chicken rice soup was hot and creamy, but it desperately needed seasoning. I couldn't finish it unless I had emptied the salt and pepper shakers. And I love creamy soups. The chicken sandwich was bland as well. The fries were outstanding though, piping hot, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. There was a pretzel roll in the bread basket - score! I got lots of "honey" and "sweetie" from my very friendly and polite waitress. For $10 I got a really filling, hot, and quiet meal. I give Grandma's Table 4 stars for the food and desserts alone. The ambiance isn't great and sometimes the servers are overly busy and you can feel forgotten about. All that said the food is tasty homemade style comfort food. Don't go here on a diet! The portions are large, especially the dinner plates. My family and I have gone a few times and I've decided that my favorite Entree is the Grilled Pork Cop and Fried Shrimp, so delicious plus I can take left overs home. Grandma's Table always seems to be packed. But when you go in, it doesn't feel overbearing with people. Breakfasts are always good. The omelets are fluffy and the skillets are jam packed with meaty goodness. It's a good place to get the best deal for your money. Even the dinners are great. Though a couple times, I went in on a Sunday and their specials were sold out. No... just no. Awful... My cheeseburger was something you find in the frozen section of any local grocery store which would have been ok however it was poorly cooked. Perhaps the cook was trying to make charcoal? Whatever the case, my burger was just gross. I also ordered the cream of chicken and rice soup and that too was god awful. The soup arrived lukewarm and immediately began to separate. Within a few minutes the soup resembled vomit mixed with chicken broth. Heard good things from a couple of co-workers, so I decided to give it a try. Place was packed, but it didn't affect the great service we got. I walked in anticipating breakfast, but they stop serving that in the afternoon/early evening, so I got the 4 piece broasted chicken dinner and opted for french fries and it also came with soup, which was very good. Not the best broasted chicken and fries I have ever had, but certainly not the worst. However, the dinner came with dessert, and I got a piece of the Boston Creme Pie, which was not so good. If you like family restaurants and large portions, this is the place to go! We are here for both lunch and breakfast while in the area for a wedding. Although we tend to avoid such places, the other available options for fine dining in the vicinity were non existent. Great variety, friendly service, delicious home-cooked meals and did I mention healthy (aka LARGE) portions? Things I did not like: freezing cold air blowing on us in our booths on both visits, and lots of litter (cigarette butts, etc.) around the entrance and parking lot. read more

This place has decent food, no real complains about that part, it's a breakfast diner. You get what you're expecting here, and if you're a fan of country gravy it's actually decent and fresh tasting. That's the reason I granted this place two stars, because if you're dying for breakfast and it's the only place nearby you will most definitely leave stuffed to the brim with a hot meal. We go here occasionally we when don't have the desire to drive out to a real breakfast place, or when we don't want to spend the gas money to go far. That being said, the service here is TERRIBLE. Easily the worst service I have ever received anywhere, ever. It's almost embarassing to be sitting there watching it go on around you. Every time we go, we get the distinct impression from our servers that we're annoying the hell out of them by having to be served. They constantly cuss back and forth across the dining room (I'm not offended by cussing or anything but its definitely not professional or family friendly for some people with kids). They toss our food onto our tables, never smile, and could generally care less that we exist. I don't expect servers to kiss my ass, but I do expect them to actually give a crap about their job. If any of the servers here care, then they certainly aren't showing it. My husband and I generally refer to this restaurant as: "The place where dried up servers go to die." Every time we go there we end up with some server that just couldn't care at all that she ever lived. It's downright depressing, and a lot like the twilight zone. If you like a great big breakfast then you don't ever have to go anywhere else. I love this place. I mostly go here for breakfast but they have great lunch and dinner food as well as a bar. They have a very impressive menu with lots of variety. If you never know what you are in the mood to eat you can find something in there menu. The portions are always good and the prices are even better. The staff and owner are always wonderful. The owner is there almost every day. He greets everyone when they come in. He will shake your hand and walk you to your table. He always makes it his priority to make sure you enjoy his restaurant. When you leave and pay he always makes sure you ate enough and enjoyed your food. You can taste every bit of love and pride they always put into the food. I love this place. read more

My family and i went here for my nephews birthday! We actually eat here like once a month. Food is really good. I highly recommend a meat skillet. Service is good most of the time. Delicious! Our server, Emily, was quick with drinks and checked in on us often even though it was crazy busy. The food was delicious (omelettes) and there was tons of it. The cook actually listened when I asked for extra crispy hash browns, ha. They must have been short staffed because they had one lady trying to do hostess duties AND be the cashier. The service was great but its pretty crowded on weekends. The staff is excellent and the portions are grand. The only down fall I had about the place lately is that there fried fish dinner was not the same, the batter was thick and it was not what I had in the pass, It was a bit of a disappointment. Arghhh! The temptations. Grandmas Table is right across the street from my workplace and like a siren, it's constantly summoning me. No! I must resist their delicious skillets and waffles. The portions are generous (perhaps overly so) and their service is cranky but in a fun way. But seriously, stay away from the He-Man breakfast unless you plan on dying young. It starts with a plate full of biscuits, topped with a ten ounce chopped steak and then topped with more biscuits and then drenched with sausage gravy and two eggs on top. WTF is this monstrosity? This place is yucky. It is quite run down and the food is gross. I came here with my husband's grandma because she said she liked to eat here. I don't know why. The only thing I some what enjoyed was the mashed potatoes that came with my meal. There is another family restaurant in downtown Oswego that is much better.
