Although I never tried this place during its earlier years, I received so many recommendation from friends and family that I finally had to try it. Went on a Friday night at dinner time and was delighted to find more than enough off street parking, although on street would have been fine to me. Inside I appreciated the cozy yet updated interior, wonderful lighting, and the ease at which we were able to find a table. The small selection of beers on tap had just what we wanted - a mix of some classic standards and some of the best local craft beer around. The wine and liquor menu was impressive too and all extremely reasonably priced, as was the beer. It was hard to pick just a few things from the menu but tried the salad with the garlic dressing and oh my goodness! One of the best salads ever! I shared it with my husband and the server kindly accommodated us and brought us extra plates and tongs and everything we needed to feel settled. We each ordered a pizza and both were fantastic. We prefer hand tossed Neapolitan style pizza, of which this is not (it's more old world, thin and crispy deep dish) but it was still delicious. We appreciated the amazing pepperoni - unlike anything ever and much better than anything I've ever had, as well as the locally raised and processed sausage . On top of the food and drinks being delicious we received very kind and efficient service that really made our night! The chef checked on us and thanked us for coming in. We couldn't have asked for anything more and we'll look forward to returning soon! We're glad that there is a locally-focused and historic place like this in our region. Highly recommend! read more

It's great to have this Conneaut landmark brought back to life and by no less than the original proprietor's direct descendants! Grandpa Pizzi's Place was formerly known as Pizzi's Cafe. A new generation has re-opened the restaurant to bring back the Old World pizza recipe we've been missing for several years. The interior has been updated with a brighter decor but former patrons will recognize the bar and floor plan. Service has been greatly improved being friendlier, more attentive, and quicker than the previous incarnation. My wife's gluten free pizza crust was particularly good. My favorite part of the experience was the looped video of Pizzi family home movies from more than 50 years ago. I'm not overly sentimental and did not know the family. But the video was reminiscent of my childhood and nearly brought a tear to my eye seeing weddings, Christenings, family dinners, etc. The video alone is worth the visit! Let me preface this little review by making it clear that we're very thankful that Pizzi's came back to life. We loved the old restaurant, and were very sad when it closed. That being said, we finally went to Grandpa Pizzi's for dinner last night (04-20-24). It was a long time coming, and we were very excited just driving there. Upon walking in the front door, I was literally shocked at the interior design and decor. It was beautiful and very well done, but it wasn't Pizzi. They had effectively removed almost all of the cozy atmosphere that had existed for many many decades. They had 1980's music (which we love) blaring, and it obviously didnt fit the atmosphere. The old cozy atmosphere was the original reason why we had fallen in love with Pizzi in the first place. I know, I know....... the sentimental value doesn't make the restaurant. I'll move on, but I must say that the new atmosphere left me feeling uneasy. It was cool, but maybe too fancy?? The smell of the old restaurant and Italian food was still there, and gave us confidence that we could somehow adjust to the new look over time. The server and staff were incredibly friendly and professional, and really made us feel at home. The food menu was simple, and drink menu adequate. We ordered one side salad ($6 for just lettuce), ravioli and a Stromboli. The kids wanted a plain cheese and pepperoni pizza. The ravioli was good, but the Stromboli was small, overcooked and lacked taste. The side of Marinara sauce was good, but not great. We found that pizza only comes in one size which is very small. The pizza itself was pretty bland and unremarkable, almost like a store bought frozen pizza. I would say that if a person had never been there in the past, they would enjoy like the experience for the most part. All in all, I found myself torn between the excitement of one of my favorite restaurants coming back, and the uncomfortable feeling of the appearance and largely lackluster meal. I feel bad not giving them a 10 out of 10 because they're such wonderful people, but I watched and listened to other long time patrons who seemed to have the same feelings we had. Should the success of the new restaurant depend on the sentimental old customers? I don't know, you tell me. I would recommend people go there, and we will return at some point. We love supporting small businesses and pray that they do well. We're confident that they're just experiencing growing pains as new owners in a newly decorated restaurant. read more
