Went to Grandstand Burgers last week. What a quaint little place. It is carry out only, however they have some picknick tables outside. We were there about 2:00 on a Friday afternoon. Looked very quiet, however by the time we left there were a lot of people there. People were very friendly and helpful in guiding us. We got a burger, tenderloin sandwich and fries. Burger was very good and juicy. Tenderloin sandwich was excellent. Good flavor. Fries were crinkle cut type and nicely brown. They were excellent. Everything was good. Prices were reasonable. They have a fairly wide menu. We will definitely be going back to try some other things.

    Double Fire Burger

Scored a front row parking spot and before I even walked in, a guy chilling outside gave me the insider tip: "Go Double Fire burger." Good advice, my friend. I doubled down with the onion rings too. The burger arrived stacked high--pickle, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a heavy hand of jalapeños (thank you very much). Cooked perfectly medium, each bite was full of toppings. Honestly? This might've been a top-five burger of my life. I've eaten my fair share of them, and this one's a sure FIRE winner. Better than the double at Culver's (my usual benchmark), and it held together like a champ all the way through. The onion rings? Golden, crunchy, and gone before I realized it--like edible magic tricks. Even the Pepsi Zero blend was on point, crisp and refreshing enough to tie the whole meal together. Verdict: If you're a burger person, put this one on your list. Front-row parking optional.

I have never In my life had this happen to me- nonetheless post about it since I've never experienced this. I ordered fried mushrooms had one and the mushroom was cold not hot. So I figured it must just be the leftover one and then I bit into the next one and the fried casing came right off- mushroom cold and I happened to look inside and saw someone's nasty hair on the inside of the casing. I took all of the food back returned this intact just how I found and decided that was the last I'll ever go to this place. What's sad is this place used to be THE burger place 5-10 years ago and it's just completely turned into a dump. This unfortunately has ruined me entertaining eating out anywhere for a long time- but that place for sure will never see me again. Please just keep your eyes open when eating here.

I did not find it to be a great value at al, nor of good quality and horrible service and atmosphere. It was overpriced, and just not good.

After a two and half year hiatus, we're back at it again! Like last time, we ordered takeout and here are my thoughts: Get cozy: You cannot dine in as it's a very small place. It's ideal to come when the weather is favorable and eat outside. Hubby and I went to a park down the street to eat our food. If you plan on driving more than a few minutes to eat, you may disappointed. They make everything to order and they have a high influx of phone and online orders, so you will be waiting a while to get your food. Oh and parking is not it. Salt and pepper??: The burgers were under seasoned and the fries did not have any salt or pepper. The food was hot and fresh, and the buttered bun had good flavor. The burgers were thick and juicy and they were generous with the toppings and condiments so that is a plus. Our meal altogether was $30 even. 4/10 Ghost condiments: It would have been nice if they included a few ketchup packets in the order. That would have at least helped the flavor of the fries. 0/10 Don't be stingy: We also ordered a side of onion rings to share, and needless to say, they were over cooked. There were not enough for two people and I guess we needed to do a double order of onion rings. Glad I didn't though since they were borderline charred. 1/10 A hairy situation: I found a blonde hair in my food container......-10/10 Overall: 5/10: The burgers were a hefty size but lacked flavor and I did not like finding the hair in my container. The fries were crispy but had zero flavor what so ever. The ladies at the counter were pleasant and had our food ready when we arrived. I can see why it's taken us over two years to come back. If you are wanting a decent-sized yet flavorless burger that you can eat right then and there, this is the spot. Otherwise, there are better options.

(10th review of 2022) Wifey & I love supporting old school mom & pop local diners. We were hoping to find a good burger joint that would satisfy our old school cravings. Unfortunately this place isn't quite what we expected. It took about 50 minutes for our food to be ready. If you're in a rush, this isn't the place to come. The food is made to order & they do A LOT of phone & online orders. They jus called number 9 on the outside intercom & we were number 12. The cashier was nice & waited for us to order. After we paid she then told us they were "a little backed up" on the orders. Ok, so wifey & I thought "a little" meant 15-20mins ish. Boy were we wrong! Not even sit down diners take 50mins to make your food. Granted this place has a pretty small kitchen. Wifey ordered the $6.00 fish sandwich with $4.75 Spicy Deep Fried Cauliflower & a side of $4.75 spicy green beans. The cashier said the sandwich came with lettuce & a side of tartar sauce. Wifey didn't receive tartar sauce, but they put a side of ranch dressing. Tasted like store bought ranch dressing. The spicy fried green beans was a bit soggy & what tasted like Franks Red Hot sauce poured over it. The cauliflower was supposed to be spicy too, but they didn't put the "spicy" sauce on it. Wifey was glad they didn't. Her fish sandwich looked like a frozen battered fish patty that was barely a 1/4" thick. No flavor to it or any of her sides. The fish sandwich had a small piece of lettuce that was pretty wilted & sad looking. She was pretty disappointed about her meal. I ordered the $11.50 Bacon Double Cheeseburger with all the fixings minus the tomato & the $3.50 tater tots. The 2 pcs bacon was super thin along with the onions and the pickles. There was only a few thin slices of onions & pickles. The burger was nice & a little thick hand made patties, but lacked flavor & was a bit dry/overcooked. The tots were extra crispy, but pretty greasy. I couldn't finish my burger cause it was too dry & tots were too greasy. Total for our order was nearly $40 with tip. Would I come back? Meh, probably not. There wasn't anything that stood out for us to. Maybe you have to eat it right then & there & not drive barely 10 mins home to eat. Our search for good tasting old school burgers is still ongoing. No A Hui Hou here. ps. I saw other reviews that gave 1 star reviews jus because of the political signs, but I don't. I review on service & the food. I did ask the cashier when we finally picked up our food if the political signs on the grassy area in front were theirs, she seemed excited & grinned as she said why yes they are! Ohhhkaaay.

This was the lettuce in my fish sandwich.

FPO was craving a burger from a "mom and pop" kind of place. We'd passed Grand Stand Burgers previously and bookmarked it in Yelp. The reviews were great so we decided to try it. So disappointed. We got there about an hour before the closed, the parking lot was packed, and there were people everywhere waiting for their food. It looked like a good sign so we went in. The people inside were really nice, friendly and helpful which is why I'm going with two stars instead of one. We placed our order and were told because they were so busy it would take a little while. I should have asked how many minutes is a little while. Fifty-five minutes later, after much people watching, seeing a fender bender in the parking lot, and reading several political signs that we later found out belong to the restaurant we got our food and got out of there. FPO had a double bacon cheeseburger minus the tomato that was apparently flavorless enough to leave part of it uneaten and tater tots that looked like they were fried twice. I got a fish sandwich that reminded me of the sandwiches from the cafeteria in elementary school except the cafeteria food probably rates higher on quality. The fish was one of those frozen squares you can get at Costco and there was no seasoning to it at all. Plus it was dry and the lettuce definitely looked like it had seen better days. I got the Spicy Fried Cauliflower in place of french fries. I'm glad they forgot the spicy part because I also got the spicy fried green beans and the "spicy" tasted like Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Anything fried then doused in a liquid hot sauce just turns into a soggy mess. So, I was grateful that even though the writing on the top of my box said spicy cauliflower, they forgot the Frank's. Everything I had was also cold. I understand taking food to go things cool down by the time you eat. This was beyond that. My food was cold. I could've given them benefit of the doubt on my fish and vegetables because this is a burger place and that should be their specialty except that even FPO's burger was unimpressive. It was still a little warm though, so that was somewhat of a positive. Beyond the nice people at the counter there is nothing about Grand Stand Burger that inspires me to try them again.

Taste 5/5 Price 5/5 (1/2 off for sandwich week original $14.99) "The Wise Guy" An Italian delight of epic proportions, this sandwich lived up to expectations of being a stellar spectacle between two slices of bread. If your mouth waters at the prospect of Italian meats being inside of it then this is the guy for you. I definitely would pay full price for this bad boy! Who knew Kelly's had a kick butt sandwich shop slanging mad good meals in there?! Not I...I only thought they served soggy 'za. Now I'll definitely be back to the walk up window to order this packed Italian stallion, it was stuffed with mortedella, spicy capicola, prosciutto, and pepperoni and salami and they don't skimp on the meat piles here. Also, the spicy vinegar zing from the pickled Giardiniera was so satisfying with the oily Italian sub dressing. I wouldn't change anything about this sandwich especially with your choice of Guys chips on the side- kettle cooked or onion and chive are the only choices appropriate...add those chips to the sandwich and you've just blasted off into a texture territory that's unparalleled. Can you tell I'm still thinking of this Wise Guy a few weeks later? He really made an impression, eh?

At any rate, I hadn't been to Kelly's since Joe's closed down and my memories of Joe's were that it was OK, but not really much to write home about. I asked some of my pals what their thoughts were on Guy's pizza and next thing I knew I was in line for a slice. Honestly, it might not be the very best pizza in town but it was really pretty tasty. I enjoyed every last bite of my slice, and when my husband texted to see if I could snag dinner for him on the way home, I just went ahead and ordered a whole 'za for the family. I will say, for some reason the slice tasted better to me than the slice I had from the whole pie I bought, but overall, I'd for sure eat here again. It's convenient, and worlds better than what was here previously.

But honestly, I was a bit disappointed because I didn't feel the food was worth the price for the portion size. I ordered the combo kebab platter with beef kofta and lamb skewers, which came with two sides and that's basically all that's on the plate with one 4 small cuts of pita bread and some rice. It was priced at $21 plus tax. The food tasted good, but the meat portions were very small. The kofta had a nice smoky flavor but was really thin and kinda short, and there was only one lamb skewer stick with 4-5 mid sized pieces which were seasoned well but felt a little chewy. For that price, I expected more meat in my plate! Other places like Meddys, Hummus & Pita Co or Yafa Café serve larger portions for a similar or even lower price and honestly, their food tastes even better in my opinion. Overall, I'd give the food 3.5 to 4/5 for taste, and the overall experience also 3/5, mainly because of the portion size and pricing. Otherwise the restaurant itself was clean with good decor and had some pretty wall art. The staff were really sweet and happy to serve us with a wait time of around 8-10 mins. I wish them all the best and if you haven't tried other Middle Eastern spots around KC, you will still like it here.

So I jumped in my car and drove to West Bottoms, a less than desireable, industrial area. There, I found a little corner store. I go in and walk up to the counter and say, "I hear I can get the best cheesesteak in KC here." The gentleman shakes his head and takes my order. Cheesesteak, add lettuce and tomato. Ten minutes later, I'm walking out with the daily special that included my sandwich, fries and a nice strong Orange Crush from the fountain. I am starving, so I rip open the bag, determined to devour it right there on the side of the street. The first sign of disappointment was the size. Maybe 6" but no more. Maybe I'm used to the footlong portions of Atlanta, but this was leaving a lot to be desired. I forgive it because maybe this is the size for the special. (Shrug) I take my first bite and get a mouthful of well-seasoned meat. But where is the cheese? I try another bite, thinking that maybe the end just was missing it. Nope, still no evidence of cheese. It takes me until midway through the sandwich before I reach the gooey cheese that makes a cheesesteak great. As I was eating my sandwich, I grab a few fries. Eh. Hand cut, which is good, but they have a slightly rancid burnt flavor. Like the grease has seen one too many days. And the lack of salt just elevated the off-flavor. I quickly abandon them and get back to the sandwich. I look down, but there is hardly anything left. Three bites and I am at the end...minus cheese. I'm left with bread ends, a few pieces of meat and a ton of lettuce and tomato. Sigh. Overall, I give the sandwich a 6/10. The meat was flavorful, but the size and the lack of cheese left me wanting more. The fries...let's not even rate them in this review or we will definitely be doing less than 3 stars. The redeemer? That crisp, delicious Orange Crush. Thank you God for soda...or as Midwesterners say, pop. (lol) Would I go back? Maybe. I would see if there is a 12" version and I would ask for EXTRA cheese and emphasize that I would love it to be spread across the whole sandwich. And I would skip the fries. Trust me, skip the fries.
