The Snack Attack with a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings photobombing in the background.

It was a Thursday afternoon and FPO and I were in Mission running an errand. FPO was starving (naturally). We've been on a desperate search for a mom and pop type burger joint ever since we moved to the Midwest and I think we may have found a keeper. The Snack Shack has parking in the front and rear of the restaurant. It's small and reminds me of 50's diners you see in the movies. It was bright and a friendly, upbeat atmosphere. They do smash burgers, which I only started hearing about since coming to Kansas. I got the Snack Attack with a single, (quarter pound) patty. Very flavorful with nice crispy edges. The vegetables on my burger were fresh, and the bun was so soft. Very yummy. Fries come With the Snack Attack. I liked them, I just need to remember next time to say "no salt" on the fries. They also do chicken sandwiches here, which I need to try, and floats and ice cream cones. I (probably shouldn't but) gotta try those next time too. We'll definitely be going back again.

UPDATE - Spring 2025: They've changed their fries to shoestring. Disappointing, but honestly it was the push I needed to go fully to Onion rings so no true hardship for me.

This is a nice diner that we stumbled upon. It's near the running store so we ran over and got food. I forgot to take a picture of the burger and fries but they were great. We took our food to go but the service was fast and good. It's diner style, family friendly. We will definitely be back.

I saw this place on IG and a lot of folks talking about how amazing the burgers were. I was intrigued. I have had some good burgers in KC and some really good burgers. The Snack Shack is certainly the best and my favorite so far. We were in a bit of a time crunch and called ahead to place our order. They were very kind and had it ready when we arrived ten minutes later. I had the Bobby, which is a double with grilled onions and grilled jalapeños. I added mustard and pickles. It was delicious!! The burgers are smashed and have crispy and delicious edges and are juicy in the middle. I'm not a fry guy, but we got a 50/50. Their fries were okay. I preferred the onion rings. They were crispy and tasty. I forgot to get a cherry limeade which several people recommended. I will next time. We will absolutely return! The interior was very classic and the staff was super friendly and helpful. A+ all around! Five stars well earned.

You know that feeling when one small negative thing can set the tone for the whole experience? That was how I felt after leaving The Snack Shack on Johnson Drive after driving across town on a weekday evening. I had been there a few times when it was a Town Topic and tried visiting this little burger joint a couple of times prior on a Saturday but they were packed so I headed on down the road. My single cheese smash burger with added bacon was actually very tasty but about 10% bigger than a slider. I really wished that I had ordered a double. The taste made me forget about the size, but what I'm still fuming about is paying $4.60 for a 50/50 - as in a rings and fries combo. The serving had 3 of the smallest onion rings ever and 11 french fries. Yes, I counted because I wasn't feeling the love from such a ridiculous small offering for almost $5; and they weren't anything special. I kept thinking about how much bigger a burger and quadruple the amount of fries I would have received at Tay's, Danny's, Cosmo... hell, even 5 Guys and McDonalds...anywhere. Thankfully Snack Shack is not in my neighborhood, so i won't have to drive past them on my way to one of the dozen great burger stands between the Northland and Mission.

The Snack Shack on Johnson Drive is nostalgia overload and I'm not complaining. I popped in here to pick up some burgers and fries for a weekend lunch with friends as we had kids in tow, and anyone who has small children knows they love hamburgers. Looking for an alternative to the usual fast food joints, we decided to try out the Snack Shack. The last time I'd done the Snack Shack was probably more than six years ago back when their location was along Santa Fe in downtown Overland Park. I remember liking it, but they had messed up part of my to-go order and I wasn't blown away. That being said, I was pretty hyped up to give them another try. Walking in, the space is insanely charming. We actually tried to bribe the kids to stay and dine in but they were nearly to tears at the idea of not eating at home so we just enjoyed the vintage diner vibes while we waited for our food to cook up. I had a burger and onion rings, my husband and daughter both had burgers and fries, and my cousin also had the rings. The burgers here are solid. They came out within a reasonable amount of time and satisfied the craving for an old school diner style smashburger. The sides are enormous, which is great for value, but something I wished I'd known before as we had more fries than we could handle - again, NOT the worst problem! The fries were great, but the rings were honestly a bit of a letdown. They really lacked flavor. So ultimately 4/5 for ambiance, and solid burgers and fries. I'm sure we'll be back!

The Snack Shack is my new favorite spot for a chill Friday night. The vibe is very retro -- like an old school diner. And the folks that work there are always very nice. The food though, is the standout thing at Snack Shack. The hamburgers are so good. The burgers aren't too small -- ample thickness. The buns are yummy. And the drinks are stellar. I live for their cherry limeade with the lime sorbet to top it off. The shakes are awesome too. And if you have a kiddo with you, you can get a kid sized shake with their meal for a small up-charge. I highly recommend The Snack ShacK! Be sure you're nice and hungry so you can really soak up your meal!

The Snack Shack is my family's go to for burgers and fries! It's fast-casual but still fresh. I think their prices are fair and the portions are great. I wish they had a salad or something lighter on the menu, however, everything I've ordered has tasted really good. They didn't have any bathrooms either, which was inconvenient because my 4 year old daughter couldn't wait and we had to leave quickly. I did enjoy their outdoor seating area this time!

I had been looking forward to trying these burgers for so long because their social media posts look so mouthwatering. Unfortunately, it was a bit lackluster for me. I love diners and legitimate diner food, because that's where you can find some of the best food. However, our burgers were pretty bland which surprised me since mine had jalapenos and onions. Overall, everything was just fine, but I expected more.

I stopped by because I was in the area and hadn't been in a while. The service was good, but nothing spectacular. I got a single with cheese, a 50/50, and a hot fudge malt. The food was good but I feel like it should have been a little more for the price. They have good onion rings. The malt was lacking malt flavor but it wasn't bad. Cute little divey type restaurant.

It could be said that my favorite food item is a burger, so I'm always trying new places in a search for the best burger around. The Snack Shack in Mission, KS resides in the same building that used to be occupied by Town Topic, which is a Kansas City favorite. The building has had a facelift and the staff is SUPER friendly. There isn't a ton of room inside, but it keeps an old school diner vibe. They offer a few items, but I'd say that the smash burgers are their specialty. And it's a pretty decent burger. Not the best I've ever had, but it is FAR from the worst. It was good enough that I returned a couple weeks later for more. If you haven't been to Snack Shack, you should absolutely check them out. This was my first time here and I love the old school burger join feel and vibe. The burgers are also still served like you would find in a small town burger drive up place. I got the burger and fries and the burger came out cooked perfect, the toppings tasted and looked fresh. Fries were cooked to a nice crisp.

This is part of the cook burger I had to rip off and this is the lettuce that was on the burger. Notice, I didn't even eat the fries.

I've eaten there three times. All three times I got the double burger with, cheese, onions, and pickles. Tonight 09/11/25 I got my burger and I really have to question my choice of eating there. The burger was neither appetizing or tasty. It tasted like it had been cooked on a grill that had not been cleaned is the best way to describe my burger tonight. Tonight led me to believe they are using a low grade quality of beef for their burgers. They voice it my head said to me that I'm probably not going to get a burger from them again. When, you have to question your choices you know it must be pretty bad.

Great throw back burger joint. Simple but good burgers/ fries and shake. If you have a few minutes this is your burger joint.

Underwhelming. It's food you can find elsewhere with probably more taste. Do yourself a favor and head to Town Topic.

Saying that, to say, we had dessert before we had dinner, but we had a great experience at Clementines. The line was literally wrapped completely around inside the store, so when you walk in, you have to go all the way to the other end and turn around to get to the back of the line. They were popular last night, but they moved quickly. They took care of us, and there were no issues. The line did not stop growing. Even when we left, it was the same thing, but again, staff members took great care of us. They offered samples for everything that was there, and they gave us great recommendations. They were quick, they were knowledgeable, and they were pleasant, making the experience seamless. I'll speak to what I ended up actually ordering, which was the ooey gooey butter cake that they have in the cooler. It was about $15. It caught my attention while I was standing in line, so I went ahead and ordered that. I did have a small piece of it last night after I got home. Definitely amazing flavor. I will be going back to get one of the small tubs of ice cream to put it on top, like one of the staff members recommended. That was a 5 out of 5 My wife ended up getting the red velvet waffle cone with the salted caramel cookies and cream single scoop. It was definitely amazing. I like the crunch of the waffle cone, and it had good flavor to it. The salted caramel cookies and cream was true to its name. It had good flavor. I'm not a big dairy person, but it did not mess with my stomach, which I highly appreciate. It was more than enough for us to share, especially since we ran the risk of spoiling our appetite for dinner, but it was amazing, really good. I will be going back to get the midnight pleasure, which is a triple dark chocolate ice cream. They have, for the lack of a better word, a black ice cream cone, so I'll be going back to do that. I sampled several flavors. The gooey butter cake, the midnight pleasures, the Salted caramel cookies and cream all of them tasted great. I liked the fact that they had kosher options and non-dairy options as well. If you haven't been here, you should definitely give it a try.
