I have now been here twice and been satisfied each time. The smashburger is quite good, and my husband enjoyed his hot dog. The bartender I've had both times has been so very helpful- he remembered me from my first time in, with my mom instead of my husband, and in quite a friendly way asked how she was doing and if she'd be coming back. [She would, if it wasn't something like a seven hour drive for her to get there.] He was completely willing to answer my MANY questions about the food and drink menu. They premix their cocktails and he was happy to let me try a sip of the ones that interested me. Speaking of.... They're quite ingenious! While cucumber flavor in a drink is hardly revolutionary, red bell pepper IS- and you can taste it! None of them were to my particular liking, but to be honest, I am a bit of a picky eater. He had great patience with me on modifications to my burger- and, again, remembered that I didn't want the sauce. This is honestly a cool little place with a super chill vibe. The menu is not large, but clearly what they do, they are doing very, very well. Burgers, dogs, wraps, & salads are there for the choosing along with a great lineup of local beer. They even have their own label (Hank's Lager) if you are up to sample house goodies! But speaking of house goodies, it's the burgers. The 'variations' are slim (like 2 or 3), but the El Reno (shoutout to Oklahoma) comes with those fabulous grilled onions as a supporting cast. The OG Hank's burger is not to be missed, what with the sharp American cheese & special sauce on a brioche bun. Both of those are simply hunger killers, because they taste as good as they look and they're fairly huge in portion size. The house special sauce has a little horseradish wayyyyyy in the flavor background, only noticeable if you're looking for it, and the sauce is outstanding when paired with the burg. Pro tip: get the sauce on the side and get your dunk on. Burgers come with a side and run $15, which is a price point well below the value. Ice cold beer flows on tap (buy local!) or in cans & bottles, and they even do a few wines & house-created cocktails. The airy, open layout makes it a three-season spot and the 'yard' is inviting for anyone who enjoys their eats & dranks au naturel. First time here after hearing good things. Had the Hanks original smash burger and fries. Smash burger was juicy and huge. I could only eat half. Loved the mayonnaise horseradish sauce on it. If you don't like horseradish you might want to get it on the side. Fries were really good and unusual. Thick cut but thin with skins and seasoning on them. We will be back. This place is a cool sports bar with a fun vibe and solid food. I'm glad I finally made it out here. We went a little before noon on a Saturday in winter. It filled up pretty quick after we arrived. The service was solid. We got a quick rundown since it was our first visit. I settled on a beer and a burger with tots. The beer can was vented at the top for airflow and drinkability. I hadn't ever seen that at a bar before. I went with the El Reno burger. It was solid. This place is good for kids. They have high top high chairs. I haven't ever seen that before either. One thing I saw after I left, something to note if Hanks is too busy, Hanks food can be ordered and enjoyed at Friction Beer Co around the corner in some capacity. At first glance, Hank's appears to have everything required for me to truly love a place...so why did I not love it? It's got an old-school feel of a neighborhood dive of the past with great music, fantastic decor, and an amazing staff. I mean, I should totally love it here! But I only came close for one reason...the food. Now I want to be very clear, the food wasn't bad. It just didn't live up to the expectations created by everything else going on with this establishment. I got the Hank's Original because I'm a sucker for a good smash burger, but the patties here are paper-thin even by smash burger standards, and the sauce they use overpowers any flavor that you could get from the burger patties. The burger was fine. It just wasn't anything that made me yearn to rush back and have it again, you know? I also took a walk on the wild side to try the strangest thing on the menu, their spam fries. And I was mildly taken aback at how well they were done. But I really didn't care for the 'banana ketchup' that came with them. They were better plain. But I'd suggest to share these with others as I soon got tired of them; although I will admit that big fans of spam may not have that problem. Awesome location, cool building, service was decent. The chicken wrap was pretty good, broccolini had a spicy touch to it was tasty. The smash burgers were both great, French Fries were good, loaded tots were not for "me" there is a lot going on and just not worth the additional $4. It was about time the Shawnee area got a cool spot like this!! The patio area was exactly what the weather ordered. It is fenced in, so there are plenty of kids running around and parents enjoying beverages. I got the Aperol Spritz, and the ratio was spot on. Came for lunch on a Sunday early afternoon. Parking is limited right next to the restaurant, but they have a sign out front directing to nearby lots that are available. We had a party of 6 and wee seated within 10 minutes. The menu is small, but somehow still has a great variety. Everyone at our table ordered something completely different. For myself I got the shrimp po boy with tots. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and seasoned well - blackened. The lettuce wa crisp and the tomatoes were ripe. The remoulade sauce was a great accompaniment, adding a touch of creaminess and balance to the blackening spice. The tots were crispy and perfectly salted, they even got approval from my 1-year old. This is my third time at Hank's in three months. Every time I arrive the staff has a great attitude upbeat happy go lucky and loves their job. Staff is great at recommending suggestions. Food is fantastic as I haven't had anything bad. Thus far, I've had the pork tenderloin sandwich, El Reno, tempura, fried vegetables, and Hank burger. Every once in a while you stumble upon a restaurant that actually lives up to the insane hype built around it and my friends, Hanks is just that. A few months ago I had a lunch date with my husband and after going back and forth on local spots we both had been wanting to try we landed on Hank's. The worst thing about Hank's is the parking, which is what you'll encounter first. It's not their fault though, it's a popular part of downtown Shawnee and you should honestly expect to hunt a bit for a spot during peak hours. Once we found our spot we made our way in and found a short wait for a table. They could have seated us outside but it was just too hot for our taste so we didn't mind waiting. It's worth noting though, that Hank's boasts a large and well designed patio that I'm sure would make for excellent outdoor dining once the heat lifts. Once seated we had only what I can describe as a really great lunch. Everything from the server, to the local beers on tap, to the elevated pub fare, was honestly great. There is usually something I don't love but Hank's hit all the marks for me, and what really impressed us as parents was that the menu was really kid friendly too, which made us add this to our list of places we could bring the girls on a weekend and find a little something for everyone. read more

A group of us walked in to Hanks Garage on a Friday night when the weather was super pleasant in KC. The wait for a table for 4 was about 30 minutes. Nothing a good convo and people watching can't take care of. I tried the Hanks Original Burger with fries, but I added grilled onions. The sauce on the burger was stellar! It was so tart and acidic, right up my alley. The fries were just OK in my opinion. They're basically steak fries in shape, but half the thickness. I would prefer them thicker. My partner also enjoyed his Pork Tenderloin sandwich as well. The menu is a little eclectic with Pasta dishes and Hot Dogs as well. Awesome spot to hang out on a nice day! Hank's has great indoor/outdoor space available from high tops, low tops, and bars. Service was incredibly fast, and we had our entire meal and drinks within about 40 minutes. I had to try the "Hank" lager which is a partner beer with Alma Mader and a beer that fits Hank's vibes. Then I was torn between the burger and the Po'Boy. Our great server gave me the inside scoop that you can get the Po'Boy as a wrap! All the flavor just less bread. It was great. The blackening spice pairs with the remoulade. Will get this again. The surprise was the flat fries! They are so good. It is like the updated version of a steak fry. The service is awesome! Everyone is sooo nice! I love the atmosphere. The tenderloin I had was sub par. My favorite sandwich is a great pork tenderloin. This one fell way short. I can't understand why you would use a beer batter on a pork tenderloin? The two just do not go together. They need to rethink their pork tenderloin. I also had a Blueberry Mojito. Blueberry Mojito looks great but is very sweet & I couldn't taste any rum. The next time I go, I'm getting one of their burgers. My son got a hamburger and it looked amazing and he said it was great. My first attempt at visiting, I skipped because of a line out the door, today's Saturday mid afternoon visit was busy and boisterous but open seating was available during my stay. I sat at the bar and had multiple college f-ball games on multiple big screens. I ordered the "El Reno" smashburger named after an OKC suburb where onion burgers reign supreme. One of my favorite burgers ever was an onion burger at Tucker's in OKC and their version was just as wonderful. Cheesy, greasy, and loaded with cooked onions - beautiful. The tots were cooked perfectly and was the equivalent of 2 orders at most places. I also tried the Homemade Strawberry Cream soda. I was expecting a dirty soda type experience but it was served with their house made lemon-lime soda and some strawberry puree blended in - very refreshing - just don't expect any actual cream. Hanks has their aesthetic down to a T. Everything is well designed and comfortable. It's a laid back atmosphere and the food hits all the marks. I opted for the tempera tenderloin and loaded tots. The tenderloin had a sauce that gave it a little kick and with the iceberg lettuce gave hints of a Big Mac. He totally laughed and stated his opinion as well as a you'll never believe this story. Score one for a waitstaff with personality. Food came out very quick which is important for a mid week lunch date. Although we didn't have to get back to the grind nice to know you could if needed. I grabbed the shrimp po boy with spicy slaw. The Mrs got burger and upgraded to smothered tots. All the food was great and would order it again. But that makes me even more tuned in to coming back. Went for lunch last Sunday. It was very busy! Every seat filled which was exciting but we were made to wait outside which I thought was odd. There was a lot of seating outdoors available with a few people out there but that wasn't offered as an option. We weren't sure if they just weren't ready for that part to be open yet? The menu is simple but that's what I prefer! They had two hamburger options and I think two hot dog options. My husband got their classic and I got the Reno. They are both really good but I loved the onions on the Reno. Their fries are different looking! I don't love a thick fry because they usually end up being soggy but these had a perfect crisp. I decided to get tots as my side. They were your average tot which is also what I prefer. My husband and I both got the strawberry cream soda which is made in house. It was just ok and one of the reasons for the 4 star. It wasn't very bubbly and could barely taste the strawberry. It seemed flat and watered down. Maybe we got a weird batch. I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again. The wait staff seemed a little stressed but they were pretty busy which is great. Sliced thin, but not shoestring. They are more like thinly sliced wedges. I'll get these every time! I got the Hank's original burger and the coleslaw. THE BEST SMASH BUGER IN THE COUNTRY!
