We hiked a loop trail of the Willow trail (#347), the Mint Wash trail (#345) and 351, parking at the Wekuvde picnic area. On a Monday in September we only saw three other people on the trail until we came to Granite Basin Lake where there was one large group and a couple small groups picnicking. The Willow trail is beautiful, traversing gentle up and down areas of pine woodlands with 180 degree views west, north and east and has partial shade. The post monsoon wildflowers were in full bloom. The route back along Mint Wash was also lovely with 5 or 6 creek crossings, boulders, flowers and Granite Mountain views. The is a $5 parking fee for day use, or it is free with an America the Beautiful National Park pass.

OK. This is a super short and super easy hike. It is slightly challenging if you take the direct…read moreroute straight up. Going this direction, it is paved all the way to the base of the rock formation forming the top. Going this direction is also steeper than going the opposite direction (CCW). From here, you're climbing, not hiking. But that part is pretty easy too...just be careful and stay within your limits. Perigrin falcons nest on the top rock section and this section does have a nesting closure period which I believe is summer through fall...but you should research the exact range as I'm not sure. If you keep your eyes open, you can see them most times of the year...but they're fast! You can also get to the base of the rock section forming the top, by a dirt path. The grade is easier, but the path there is longer. You'll occasionally see mountain bikes on this path, so heads up. Regardless of which path you use to get to the top, keep your eyes open (& ears a listening) for rattlesnake. I've seen them multiple times hiking this area. I've also seen numerous hikers that let their dogs run free (against park rule). It would not be a good day for your dog if it gets bitten.

It was my first time at this particular camp and it brought back many memories of my camp days growing up. UCYC is a non-denominational, non-profit organization that is affiliated with the Independent Christian Churches in both Arizona and Nevada. UCYC (United Christian Youth Camp) started in the 1950s. UCYC has both summer and winter camps. They offer a number of activities for the kids. Activities include a zipline, swimming pool, basketball, paintball and archery. The campus is pretty large and includes a dining hall and main auditorium for larger gatherings. My only knock about this camp is the long walk from some of the cabins to the other side of camp where the dining hall is. Walking that far three times a day for food got old quick. But the food wasn't too bad for camp food. I am big fan of kids unplugging from their devices and going to camp to have fun and meet new friends. Some of my best times as a youth were at camp. It is a great place for kids to grow in their faith too. I had a blast being a leader and getting to know other leaders while I was here at UCYC.

We stumbled across CenterFocus while we were searching for Canyoneering so we decided to get in touch with them. I had a week long correspondence with Garrett, primary owner of CenterFocus and he couldn't have been more helpful. He was very patient with me as I'm a total "newbie" in terms of canyoneering / rock climbing. After some quick conversations, we decided to put aside the canyoneering experience and try our hands at some rock climbing over at Jacks Canyon. The entire trip over to Jacks Canyon was something that my husband and I will remember for a long time. Garrett and his fellow guide Bennet were awesome through the canyon, and even better mentors for beginner rock climbers. Being a couple of people with NO rock climbing experience, and not to mention I am afraid of heights, they were the most patient and helpful guides around. We had an absolute blast, and we discovered a new hobby thanks to the exceptional guiding skills of CenterFocus. On the car ride back with Garrett, we've already made numerous plans on coming back this upcoming spring to partake in the canyoneering expeditions, and hopefully some other endeavors. Our only regret is that we live in New York and can't experience CenterFocus adventures more often. Upon entering, I was greeted by Cedric and Jude. They immediately greeted me and set me up with all the essentials in belaying and helping my kid. I had Jude give us some essentials to ensure we we safe, and also have a fun time. To add some context, I'm completely deaf and Jude totally took the time to review clearly, and then best part was validating each step to ensure I had clean knowledge transfer. They have bouldering and lots of different walls from basic to extremely advanced climbing, they also have tight rope and a weight rack set. We had a lot of fun at this place trying out everything, staff was so nice, the rental equipment were in good shape, everything was super clean, the population of regulars who came here were very respectful and kind. Pictures don't show how large the space is, I was impressed. If I was going to get into climbing regularly, I would come to this gym!

Lastly, my kids came home with messed up hands because providing chalk as part of the equipment isn't included and costs extra. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If the employee doesn't actually want to do their job and teach people how to properly wear the harness (the basics) then he shouldn't be employed by this company because his negligence is going to lead to a major accident.
