For the too long, didn't read…read morecrowd: Granite Marble Designs did not understand the complexity of installing countertops in my house and charged us an additional $616 to deal with it. While I'll go through the details of they said vs I said, I think what it really comes down to is a difference of opinion on what is the customers' responsibility vs the business' responsibility. Granite Marble Designs was unaware of my kitchen cabinets not being level, even after they sent someone out to laser my kitchen. I also mentioned that my kitchen floors weren't level. Regardless of any fault, the countertop installation was problematic. GM Designs got half way through the install on a Tuesday and came back on Friday to finish the job. In the meantime, half of my kitchen had countertops, everything in my kitchen was in my living room and my kitchen sink was in the driveway. We (the customers) had come up with a plan to build supports in order to level the top of the cabinets to finish the countertop install as GM Designs only offered us the option to stop the job midway and for me to find someone else to level our cabinets. Oscar from GM Designs came to my house and approved of the plan that we (the customers) would have countertop supports pre-cut and ready to be screwed in to the cabinets when the team got there on Friday. We also seem to have a difference of opinion here as Mike (the owner) said the reason that we were charged additional cost for labor was because it was our responsibility to have the supports leveled and installed when the installers arrived on Friday. This was not what was discussed with Oscar. I have no idea how to perfectly level something across the length of an entire room. If I was that good at installing countertops I would not have contracted a countertop company to replace my countertops. I don't have proof of this as I didn't record the conversation I had in person, in my own kitchen. With the other issues, I would not have anticipated that this would be the point of contention. After the job was complete, we were charged $616 more than the initial contract. Speaking with Mike (the business owner), he said that was $250 for an extra day of install and $366 of additional labor for the install. I had to call Mike to get a dollar value breakdown for the $616 extra cost as no one replied to my previous emails asking for a cost breakdown. Here's the difference of opinion: I think it's the company's responsibility to assess the job properly and then deal with it. They (the business) maintains that the job was more difficult and that the extra cost is my responsibility. I wish they would have been transparent about the possibility of variable cost upfront. I can see both sides, but just understand that if the job turns out to be more difficult than Granite Marble Designs initially believes, then the responsibility to pay for that may fall on you (the customer). So in total about who took responsibility for what: GM Designs took responsibility for 1/2 of the extra day and charged a discounted rate of $250 vs their normal $500 second day charge. We (the customers) took responsibility for cutting out the sink plumbing and replacing it as the plumbing no longer reached the sink with the change in height in the countertop (about $150 in cost), we came up with a solution to finish the countertop install and make the cabinet supports, cut and painted new trim for the cabinets to hide the gap between the cabinets and countertop, repainted and reinstalled the floor trim that was removed, and paid the additional $616 (about 17% additional cost) to Granite Marble Designs.

This was a very nice collaborative process, where we talked about appropriate overhangs, and how to deal with window trim that might be in the way. Templating took all 20 minutes. Within a week, we had the countertops installed, and sink mounted. They were very considerate to ask us about noise levels, since they knew we had a toddler that napped around the install time. Install was less than an hour, and it looks perfect! Just all around very professional and wonderful folks.

He gave me names and locations of several granite yards he recommended, and his price was competitive even with the additional trip charge for a fabrication and install in Winter Park. Rob and Juan both helped us figure out how we wanted the counters laid out on the granite and didn't get aggravated with me when I changed my mind multiple times about different scenarios. I highly recommend Colorado Surfaces.

When I saw the sample plank, I knew that it was a color lighter than what I wanted. We went back to the LVP section so that I could pick a color more to my liking. I relied on the website inventory and pickup information for two separate tile purchases. One…read moreproduct was listed as available in-store but could not be located. After ordering it online, I received a notification that it was ready for pickup, but store staff advised it would not arrive for another 7-10 days. During the same visit, another tile was listed as having over 5,000 pieces available, while store staff indicated only about 400 could be found. The conflicting inventory and pickup information resulted in multiple unnecessary trips and significant time lost during an active home renovation project. Customers and store associates appear to be working with inaccurate information. This system needs to be fixed and in the meantime, there needs to be a notice on the website that the system is down.

He did such great work -- with unparalleled professionalism and positivity -- that we have hired him to do additional tile work for us later this Fall. We have renovated three homes and have worked with literally dozens of contractors and tradespersons over the years, and none have come close to the level of professionalism, attention to detail, craftsmanship, punctuality, efficiency, and dedication that Matt displayed during our project. He clearly takes pride in his work, and is an outstanding communicator. He also is a creative problem-solver when unexpected issues (such as walls not being plumb) arise. Matt does a superb job, and we couldn't have been happier with the finished product. Unlike many other companies that advertise for cabinet installation, Matt actually specializes in cabinetry. It took us several attempts to find an installer we could trust would do a good job. Matt did a phenomenal job, and was extremely patient with the overflowing mess at our resulting from multiple projects going on simultaneously and working around multiple starts and stops due to issues with the delivered cabinets, working around other contractors, etc. If you have an upcoming cabinet job, R&R cabinetry should be your first call.

The tile work is super flush which each other, incredibly level, and straight. He even corrected the funky way that the tile manufacturer sent me the tile. True pros working with what they were given. I bought the tile prior to hiring the Honey Do List, which makes it a perfect company name. I did not have the time or skill to complete it as well as they did. The brick behind it was super wavy, bumpy and not level, but the new tile is perfect! I have not experienced such amazing customer service in our entire bathroom remodel project (or probably ever), as I have while working with L&L Glass. From the very first phone call when I spoke with Marissa, I got all the warm and fuzzies about this company that I needed to schedule an appointment to come measure. They knew we were on a time crunch (after being completely screwed over by another glass company in the area), and tried very hard to get us scheduled ASAP. When Pete came to take measurements, he was very personable and answered all my questions. He got the measurements back quickly and I had a quote sent over just a few days later. They were a bit more expensive than a few other places we had gotten quotes from previously, but customer service and positive reviews go a long way for me, so I quickly pulled the trigger and put down a deposit. Miguel and (totally blanking on the other dude's name. Gah!) came to install our shower glass and we were blown away by how quickly they were in and out. We stepped out for a quick breakfast and they were already done! Super cool guys, too!
