I've been hearing stories about this place. Just a small little shop in Thomasville. Legends speak of their fritters of various flavors. I had to pop in to see what all the fuss was about. The smell of freshly baked sweet hits you in the face like a shovel from a Three Stooges skit as soon a you near the door. It is a very warm and inviting place with display cases of donuts, fritters and other baked goodies. The young lady who helped me was polite and friendly . I ordered three apple fritters to share with my family. The legends are true. The fritters were sweet but not too sweet and not overly heavy. It was delicious on its own but it really shines being enjoyed with your favorite hit cup of coffee. Big hit with the family. Here is my original review of Granny's Doughnuts: *** Oh yeah, we're a bunch of fatties at work!! Someone is ALWAYS bringing Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, or Bojangles biscuits for b-fast.... but this morning, we had a new hire drive down to visit our Charlotte office from Raleigh. She stopped at Granny's and bought a dozen plain glazed donuts. I usally try to avoid the treats in the breakroom, but this morning that just didn't happen. I got a ginormous donut & put it in the microwave for 10 seconds to warm it. OHMYGOD. These freshly made old fashioned style donuts put KK and DD to shame! They are big and fluffy - they melt in your mouth with just the perfect amount of glaze. After this deliciousness, I just don't see the point in having a donut imposter from one of the big chains. Good thing this bakery is so far away, or I suspect we'd all have to go out and buy some lovely elastic waist-band pants! *** So, this morning I found out that I had originally reviewed the wrong place because my co-worker from the RTP area came back down with some more Granny's doughnuts. Apple, blueberry, and cherry. Banana cream donuts and buttermilk bars are a must for the assorted dozen box. The owner is awesome and I love her energy every time I visit. Just as fabulous as the High Point location. My family started going to the library in Thomasville so after going one day with the kids, we decided to hit up this particular granny's. This location is a lot more cozy and comfy; there's more places to set and it's actually really cute inside. All the same delicious baked items at the same price and it was nice to see Tiffany there as I normally would see her in High Point and she started being at the Thomasville location more so it was very nice to see her and catch up. Sometimes they seem a little more greasy than usual, but...considering they ARE deep fried, I can't make that a complaint.
