Stopped for coffee while traveling. The coffee shop was next door- but I'm a sucker for a donut- Sooo, I entered to check it out. Donut choices were simple- mostly cake style. Nothing different or out of the ordinary, that's when the savory options caught my eye. A sausage/hotdog wrapped in yumminess!!! And it was!! Delicious!! Pretty disappointed in this donut shop. The donuts are delicious but the service is lacking. For the last couple of weeks I've popped in shortly after opening as that is when I have time to stop during my commute (maybe 3-4 times max). They have put out several Valentine options in the case. There's a huge variety of items and only a handful of several types of the donuts. Each time I've gotten two or more of the heart donuts which are red, white, pink, with sprinkles that are also Valentine colors. Valentine's and all things pink with hearts are my favorite. I've been so excited to purchase these! Today, I pop in again and the worker (who is the same each time I visit) starts complaining to me that he wishes us customers wouldn't buy those first thing in the morning because they are really only there for customers to see so they'll place custom orders of them for Valentine's Day. There is no marking saying that you cannot purchase certain items anywhere. It was so confusing and frustrating. The worker changed his tune when I told him I'd get something different if it was that big of a deal. I mean, it's donuts. It's not that serious?? I ended up changing my two-donut order to something I didn't want at all and noted this experience for future reference. read more

I have to change this review. After years of being in business, this donut shop has significantly changed. The donuts are not appetizing in the least. Dry pastry and way too much unbalanced flavored filling. Honestly, this is not my issue though. My issue comes from the staff. I have NEVER been treated so rude at a business taking my order. This did not happen only once, but twice. The man working was bothered from the moment I walked in. When I asked a question about the filling options, he grunted and pointed at a sign. I asked another question related to my order, his response was "I don't have every answer built in my brain". Wow. How rude. I was bothering him by giving this business a customer. A singular customer. As this business is never busy. I can see why. I will not return. This was the biggest waste of $20, and I sure have wasted plenty of $20. I regret ever going back. read more

Love these mom and pop donut shops that are popping up everywhere! I prefer to spend my money through them then a huge franchise. Kernols has been around for almost two years and I love their sweets! A little smaller size donuts than I've seen in other shops, but the flavor is all there! My daughter and I usually stop by when we're in the area. Kernol's is an example of the former, and it represents everything that is right, good, wholesome, and desirable about a family owned business. The personal attention you receive, the commitment to quality and customer satisfaction they exhibit, are so refreshing. And Kernol's makes a fine, fine, doughnut. I kept it simple and ordered a couple of glazed and a couple of chocolate frosted. They were delicious. The soft freshness was obvious, and the flavor was excellent. Density and texture-wise, I would put the doughnuts here as a hybrid between Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Doughnuts. I found the taste and quality to be superior to both, though I will admit that a fresh hot glazed from KK is one of life's singular most wonderful pleasures. Something they do here at Kernol's that is really awesome is that if you order a doughnut with a filling (creme, lemon, raspberry, custard, etc.), they fill it on the spot, which keeps it fresh and does not give it hours and hours to soak into the dough and lose its texture or consistency. Best donut place in town!!! If you love croissants then you MUST try the Bacon, Egg and Cheese, it is the BEST breakfast sandwich out there. You will never go back to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. This is a fabulous option, just a little out of the way but so worth the short drive down Peters Creek. I have had the Maple Bacon and it is fantastic also. Their donuts are light and fluffy with a good flavor but not so much that you feel grease oozing. Please do yourself a breakfast favor and try!! read more

This was surprising find we came across while running errands one day. Hubby went it and bought a mixed selection of donuts for the crew so we could see if they were as good as other reviews said they were. And they were quite yummy! They tasted fresh, and had good flavor throughout. The filled donuts were filled well and not overly sweet like some other places. We ordered around 120 donuts for dessert for our wedding at Graylyn Estate. After talking to them over the phone a few months in advance, we stopped by the store 2 days before and placed a specific order. We were able to pick them up the morning of the wedding. Every one at the store was very helpful from helping us pick out donuts (and giving us free samples) and making sure everything was ready on time for that morning. I was so excited to see a local donut place open in my area. Local Donuts are so much better than the mass-produced ones you get at chain stores. We got a variety of six and all were delicious. I've been loyal to Krispy Kreme my whole life...but this may be better. (Gasp!) I've stopped in the store several times to grab doughnuts for groups or just for the family. The cream-filled long johns are my favorite, with the apple fritters coming in at a close second. Oh, and the maple-bacon...Yum! When I grab these for groups, I always get extra in hopes of having leftovers...but rarely have leftovers. They are always a hit. The staff is always friendly and happy, eager to help. A newcomer to the doughnut game in Winston Salem/Lexington. My family took me here singing high praises for these doughnuts. My sister, the premiere social butterfly, had a pleasant conversation with the cashier who rang up our order and I got an opportunity to try both their original and their chocolate covered doughnut. I was told they are light & airy, which is entirely accurate. I'll bet you these doughnuts are healthier and less heavy/painful than many you'll find in this area (where grease and bad for you stuff rule the day). In fact, my nephew had a doughnut cake from here recently for his birthday which was a big hit. My sister also appreciates the politeness of the staff so may they have great success here. read more
