Sweet Shoppe has always been the go-to place in High Point for birthday cakes, cream-filled oatmeal cookies, and other sweet treats. In the past I was usually satisfied with my purchases there. But this time I have to say they dropped the ball. I ordered plain cake squares for a baby shower. The price of decorated ones was just too high so I decided to make my own decorations. 24 white squares with white icing was about $35 plus tax. I can make a cake for about $5 in ingredients but I always have trouble getting the squares cut evenly without making a mess. I wanted them to look nice. When I picked them up--honestly, I should have refused them. But I was in a hurry so I paid and brought them home. About 1/3 of the squares had hesitation cut marks in the icing that hadn't been smoothed over. The squares were different sizes. Some were rectangles, some were squares. And the cake was dry. Tasteless. For that price I should have received a much more professionally presented product. All bakeries nowadays are so expensive, so their price wasn't that much out of range of others, but for what I paid I expected much better. read more

This is a slice of cake I ordered from the Sweet Shop Bakery. Notice how unnecessarily thick the icing is. The cake itself was thin and uneven, and I have a feeling the icing was plastered on so thick to hide how crooked the cake was. When I called up there to tell them I was unhappy about it, they hung up on my face. I wouldn't recommend this overpriced trash to a homeless person. Save your money and get a Walmart cake. No one at the party was happy about this pitiful pathetic cake and I felt let down because I was recommended this bakery and tried my best to impress my family with it. This is what I would call homestyle baking, what you would expect from your grandma's place or your mom's house. I love the simplicity and price of the red velvet cupcake. The frosting was cream cheese but it was more like a butter cream cheese frosting to me. It was still delicious.
