Review #929 2025-107 Donuts Order: 3 Chocolate Bars 2 Chocolate Frosted 2 French Crullers: Cinnamon Crumb & Cinnamon Sugar 2 Twists: Glazed & Sugar 1 Cinnamon Crumb 1 Frosted Cake with Nuts 1 Glazed 1 Old Fashioned 1 Sugar 1 Vanilla Frosted I was in the area & had 45-mins. to kill before The Yelpies, so I checked the TooGoodToGo app to see if there was anything nearby for pick-up before 8:00 PM, & Granny's Donuts popped on the map. If you haven't heard of TGTG, they're a certified B Corp social impact company that's on a mission to inspire & empower everyone to fight food waste together. They partner with bakeries, restaurants, & supermarkets to rescue good food from going to waste, with customers paying a discount (about 1/3 of the estimated value) for a "surprise" bag. Please note their surprise bags are day old or end of day items. Upon entry, the clerk asked if I needed help & I said I'm here for my TGTG pick-up. She asked to see my phone & took it from me to swipe for my redemption. Aaaugh! My phone is now sticky & needs to be clean. ＼(｀0´)／ This is especially weird to me since their order/pick-up counter has a plexiglass barrier, probably from the pandemic lockdown. She grabbed an empty box & walked back to fill it up. I ordered a $6.99 for an estimated value of $21.00, my surprise box had some weight & counted 15 various bars, twists, & donuts worth $26+. Not a bad haul. I didn't have any so I won't spoil my appetite & tried a couple bites when I got home. The donuts were likely day old, not end of day. Granny's Donuts is open 24/7 & inventory was somewhat on the low side for the night. But then, when does a 24/7 donut shop put out fresh & hot donuts? Likely in the early morning. I took a nibble of the sugar twist & cinnamon crumb, which were pretty good. I squeeze some of the others, & noticed that they were "older" & might need a nuke to freshen it up; the worst ones were the bars. The donut shop is located just off the 91 Fwy. & somewhat isolated off Lakewood & Artesia Blvds., though it was well-lit on the outside. There's plenty of parking spaces but none in front due to the entry ramp to the plaza. It's a decent size shop with some seating on the left, & an ATM on the right if you choose to pay by cash, not sure if they charge less for cash payments. Donut menu is pretty standard: cake, raised, bar, twist, French cruller, buttermilk, old fashioned, cinnamon roll, bear claw, apple fritter; I did see their version of the cronut. Price points are just under $2/ea. with a dozen at $18.75 & up, & 1/2 dozen at $10.50. I think this is reasonable? It's been awhile since I purchased donuts. There's also muffins, croissants, & other baked goods that's norm for a donut shop. Service is alright except for handling my phone when I can clearly show & swipe for my surprise bag redemption. I probably won't be back here due to the distance & standard menu, but I liked the fact that Granny's Donuts is doing their part to reduce food waste & offer cheap treats to entice potential customers into repeating ones. Recommended: French Crullers: Cinnamon Crumb & Cinnamon Sugar, Twists: Glazed & Sugar, Cinnamon Crumb. My family had the others & thoroughly enjoyed them as well, though the chocolate ones were more stale than the rest. read more

We have the Too Good to Go app, where you buy on discount leftover foods from restaurants. We got a notice that Granny's had a surprise pack for $5.99. We decided to give it a try. We paid ahead on the app and dropped by at the allotted time. They showed us how to mark in the app that we'd picked it up, took a dozen box in back, where I suppose they keep the day old donuts, and I ordered a watermelon smoothie while we waited. Unfortunately they made it with watermelon flavored powder and it tasted like not very good watermelon candy. Definitely no fruit in that smoothie. They came back with the full box and I mean it was full. They taped it shut but it was heavy. When we got home we counted fourteen donuts/pastries in there. There were fritters, claws, long Johns and more, all slightly stale but still delicious. We'll definitely do this again. read more

Ever since the owners left, that place is not the same. The girl there is extremely rude. She tried to over charge me for a dozen donuts then gets upset when I called her on it. We got several day old donuts instead of what would be considered leftovers from a shift. Worst donuts ever! I could tell the poor girl putting the box together couldn't find decent old donuts to give us because she took a long time putting the box together. Next time, don't open yourself to a bad review like this one. So granny's donuts have that original mom and pop shop feel that I crave so much when heading to a donut shop. I have always enjoyed their buttermilk donuts and have always found them to be for the most part very fresh and sweet. I am not a fan of the more processed donuts sold at winchells down the street so this spot to me is a savior. Now here goes why I gave them three stars instead of the 5 I was originally going to give them. They seem to have really jacked up their prices when compared to other local donut shops. There was no incentive for buying the dozen, they charged me $12 when other similar shops charge $8. They are good donuts but that are not worth paying an extra 33% for your sweets. They also seem to always be out of something that I need when I'm here, I'd say if you're looking for a dozen and don't want to shell out $12 maybe try somewhere else. read more

Since I moved to Long Beach a couple of years ago, this has been my go to donut spot. They are open 24 hours and always have a wide variety of donuts to choose from. My ultimate favorite donut from here is the chocolate cream filled and every time I order it, it is delicious. There's is plenty of parking available so finding a nearby parking spot won't be an issue. The dozen of donuts is a bit on the pricey side but they make really good donuts so you really do get what you pay for. It is cheaper to buy half a dozen or a dozen as opposed to getting a single donut by the way. Occasionally the lady helping me out throws in a free donut when I buy the full dozen. I've always gotten good service and good donuts at this location so I will keep coming back for my donut fix every time I need one. read more

Red velvet donuts! My excitement ends with the above statement. I've heard they served a version of red velvet donuts that seem to magically sell out. When I came in they initially said it was sold out, but miraculously said some became available. I suspect they were either frozen or refrigerated because she quickly nooked them in her microwave. How were they? They looked better then they tasted. In all honesty they tasted just like a regular cake donuts, I had no hint of chocolate or red velvet and was utterly disappointed. My shop is in this neighborhood, so I have been buying coffee here for 15+ years. The owners are very nice, and have maintained a strong, steady business despite the challenges of an unfriendly city hall and sketchy homeless people that congregate in the area. Don't let them worry you; the owners and sheriff don't tolerate panhandlers bothering the customers here. They even persevered when the city gave Starbucks a plum deal to move onto the badly-contaminated closed gas station site next door, and tried to close Granny's through harassing code enforcement because they were so eager to woo Starbucks. If you Just Want Coffee, go to Granny's instead of Starbucks. Reference Foamy the Squirrel, in "Small, Medium, Large." (Hilarious NSFW cartoon, google it!) The donuts here are larger and more consistent than the ones at many of the other independent Granny's locations in town. They also seem to maintain a better and fresher selection throughout the day compared to the competition. Staples like glazed raised and holes seem to be made fresh as needed. Protip: From around 11pm, they start making new batches of everything, so there are hot fresh new donuts through morning, in case you mysteriously find yourself awake with the munchies. They have milk for these moments. The ham and cheese croissants are good and baked fresh every morning. They also have specialties like butterflies and "dog toys" which are croissant-like dough but made differently. There are muffins, cookies, and 2 kinds of cake for your sweet tooth. If you don't want to court diabetes along with your hypertension, they usually have bananas to go with your coffee. At Lakewood and Artesia/91 freeway, a commuter couldn't ask for a better location for a quick caffeine fix. Even during the morning rush, they keep the coffee brewing and the bags rustling so you can get in and out. There's an ATM inside if you need your caffeine and sucrose fix but are short on cash and time. This is the first time that I have stopped here, and it was interesting... The place inside is super clean, sits next to a Denny's, and is right off the 91 fwy at Lakewood Blvd. The parking lot is pretty lit up, so even late at night, you don't feel uncomfortable...Denny's is always packed and so is that part of their parking lot. I went inside jones'ing for something sweet, and had a hard time deciding on what to get...there was a huge selection! Even at 11 pm! Unfort, as I was looking at the glass cases, I noticed a couple scruffy looking men sitting in the right corner of the place. I made sure to keep my "eye" on them...I don't scare or get intimidated easily, but I could see how if someone isn't used to always being aware/alert of their surroundings, could feel a little uncomfortable. I finally decided on a croissant/donut (a cronut, but I guess since "Granny" didn't discover it, she can't use the name). It was the first time that I have ever seen one...looks really weird but cool at the same time. Got one of those and a large Diet Coke (of course, my drink of choice, and you know I gotta watch the calories?!!!). The guy that works behind the counter was super nice and friendly, and definitely made it worth while to drive over and try this place (there's two Granny's closer to my house, but I decided to make the longer trek). After paying with my debit card, I grabbed my drink to put my straw in, and I don't know how I did it, the damn thing tipped over and spilt all over the counter...nothing like making a first impression huh?! It seems to be a magnet for the homeless and the criminally inclined, especially in the evenings. Management doesn't really seem to do anything about the crazier of the homeless just taking up real estate in the place. That's fine, I guess. They're providing shelter. It's just not conducive to business if someone is loudly and angrily yelling at a half-torn and empty coffee cup about the cups choice of kitchen cabinets, and vaguely smells of stale pee. But, that's up to the management, I guess. The prepared food is subpar, at best. You'd probably be slightly better going across to Denny's. The donuts and coffee are really the selling point here. But, there are better atmospheres and certainly better donuts and coffee elsewhere. If it's raining and you're waiting for a ride, duck in. Join in on the boisterous raucous with the disturbed homeless. Grab a donut and have some coffee. It is, however, a better deal than anything Starbucks could give you. And that Starbucks was built on what is well-known in the commercial real estate business as contaminated land--a former gas station. So, you take that information as you'd like. read more

Super disappointed . The cronut was doughy inside and tasted of pure sugar. The lemon filled donut was average but filling tasted like Comstock. Something told me to only get 2 donuts when I usually get a dozen. So for two donuts I paid close to $4.00 dollars. Not even worth it. read more
