My company is headquartered in Southern Pines, and I dread the lengthy drive down there, taking some solace in the knowledge that it is around the bend from this delightful doughnut shop. I arrived around 8:45, and the selection still seemed fully stocked. I arranged for six, trying an apple fritter, alongside raspberry-filled, frosted, and cake donuts. Fancy donut places back home do flavors ranging from innovative to bizarre, and are sometimes overly sweet or disappointingly dry. But here, you'll get only the tried-and-true basics... and for a far better price. For freshness, taste, and value, they get high marks in my book. read more

I first experienced Granny's Doughnuts while at Steve Jones Honda waiting for some repair work to be done on my car. Complimentary coffee is ONE thing, but DOUGHnuts? And, even chocolate cake ones. I was in heaven and just HAD to ask one of the Honda workers where the delicious donuts came from. I visit my daughter in Southern Pines and we had seen the store, but it was always closed. We later discovered that when the doughnuts are gone, the store closes. So, the last time I visited, we were determined to get up early so we could actually buy some doughnuts. So many types and flavors. It was difficult to decide. Ended up consuming WAY more doughnuts then was necessary, but it was worth it and I would highly recommend Granny's Doughnuts to anyone who appreciates baked goods made-from-scratch. You won't be disappointed. Just remember to arrive before the doughnuts are gone. read more

These donuts are better than Dunkin donuts and Tim Hortons because the dough used at Granny's is fresh but the flavors at Granny's are bland when compared to many newer privately owned donut shops. I would suggest that the management put higher quality ingredients into their fillings, fruit, chocolate, etc. It may not be fair for me to compare this to more modern places that focus on using legitimately rich cacao and less filler in their fruit, as Granny's definitely has a classic image, but honestly the new era of donuts has shown us all that the quality of ingredients and strength and diversity of flavor is so important that older, classic donuts aren't worth the calories anymore. The staff is very nice and the experience is very pleasant, I just found the flavors boring and bland. But if you like old fashioned, this place is perfect for you. read more

Just plain old fashioned doughnuts that are always fresh and made to perfection. This place doesn't pretend to be pretentious and something that it's not. You won't find blood orange and lavender this or that on the menu. What you will find is a doughnut that was made fresh and simple, the old fashioned way. Don't come here expecting duck doughnuts, these are light and airy, not cakey. The staff is very friendly and greet with a smile. Rare these days. read more

This review does not contain any opinion about the donuts from this store because they were never available for us to purchase them. We called the store last Tuesday at 11:00am to ask if they would allow us to place a larger than normal order for a future pick up on Saturday morning. We were told to call back on Thursday or Friday to place our order. We live out of town so our only option was to call back on the days mentioned. We called back on Thursday at 11:00am, no answer and the voicemail was not set up so there was no way to leave a message. We called back at 11:00am on Friday, no answer and no voicemail option. My sister drove over there at 12:15pm on Friday and the doors were locked and lights were off. Based on other reviews, I found this store has a policy of "they are open until they sell out" so obviously they were done for the day and no one was around to help us out. I find it very unprofessional to ask us to call you back on a specific day and then you have no option for us to leave a message when you're unavailable. I would have much preferred they tell us they cannot accommodate our request and that would be the end of it. Instead, I have nothing but frustration and disappointment with this store. For future customers convenience, I would ask they please update their hours of operation to something that resembles their actual working hours. read more

I had a terrible experience with Dunkin' Donuts this past weekend. I went to Granny's to fill the order Dunkin' Donuts wouldn't (read their review on yelp) and was so pleasantly surprised by the service and gratefulness the employees expressed for my patronage. Best of all, the donuts are amazing! They have a cream cheese donut that tops all donuts I have ever eaten. I highly recommend them for quality and service. read more

I love this place! They run out of donuts especially Chocolate Old Fashions on Fridays so get there quick. You do have to watch them when you order mixed dozen donuts as they will cheat and still slide in 5-6 regular glazed. They tend to do this consistently so watch that part. Otherwise enjoy! read more

They are always fresh and very tasty. The service is very nice, too. They're always friendly there! The DD across the street has nothing on this store! I love this place and their doughnuts! Don't go to the Dunkin Donuts down the street! Keep going and Granny's Donuts is a diamond in the rough! 80c DONUTS! They aren't super sugary and light and fluffy. They have all the old fashioned donuts and the smiley face donut plus a LARGE Coffee is $2 and some change! AMAZING! I can't get enough of these large fluffy donuts! There coffee cake is amazing and huge too! So inexpensive and delicious! Keep these good old mom and pop joints open they are the best! OH and there DONUT HOLES! Are to die for! If you're out of donuts at 10:19am, you're clearly not making enough. Supposedly it's still pre-busy season right now, so I can't imagine even bothering to try this place in the height of spring or summer. They must be something special, but I hardly ever get up this early on a Sunday, let alone the 8am time you apparently have to keep in order to get these precious vittles. read more

I came here off reading a review online! I get sick of the chain restaurants so I came here and it's locally owned by the sweetest people who really took care of me! The best donuts I've ever tasted. Consecutively perfect everytime. Make sure you try the apple fritters if nothing else. I love the fritters, cinnamon buns, long johns, All of it.The staff is friendly, prices are cheap, and never a long line because service is so fast. One problem though. They never, I mean never stay open till 300 pm. They always sell out by 1200 and close early. Get there by 800 if you want the fritters or cinnamon buns. We have only been disappointed by them selling out early. A must try in and around aberdeen, southern pines, and pinehurst. read more

Great great donuts. The folks who own and run the place are pretty shy/modest folks, so they aren't real outgoing, but service is good. The decor, if you could call it that, is pretty drab, but hey you are here for the great donuts. One thing: please upgrade your coffee; frankly I find it un-drinkable. I hate to have to go to the nearby Dunkin (which has serious management problems) for coffee and then to granny's for donuts. My favorite donut is the unglazed Old Fashioned.
