Had reservations before the Bears game today. walked in 15 minutes early gave our name seated right away. Was busy took a few minutes to place are table of 4 food orders. Had beverages within a few minutes.food took about 10to 12 minutes.all was served hot, fresh and just enough not to much. Price was reasonable for breakfast and for downtown Chicago. I liked that You could order breakfast ala carte one egg is more than enough for me, same with toast and bacon. The other 4 all ordered a full breakfast plates were all clean off of food. Like I said food was served Hot, fresh and tasted great. Located next to the Hilton and across from Grant Park. Give them a try, lunch and dinner menu looks good worth a try. read more

The service was not just poor but we saw evidence of discrimination every single day. Certain customers would get choice seating while some were told the exact seat was not available. The same customers would get faster service while others waited. It was like the entire crew of waiters have been trained to do this. Yet they select the "20%" tip option when they bring you the check! We will stay in the hotel ( no complaints) but avoid the restaurant in the future. read more

This place to me seems like a hidden gem within a touristy spot. I've been here a few times and really enjoy sitting at their bar. The atmosphere is pretty cozy but still slightly upscale. I've ordered food here once and enjoyed everything. I have to say, their drinks are the highlight and their server was awesome as they were a little understaffed and he didn't know how to make a French 75 but looked it up and it was awesome! I was staying at the nearby Hilton and stopped for dinner. I'm sorry I did. I had a chicken sandwich that was thrown together and tasted bland. Chic Fil A would have tasted better. The fries were worse. I sat at the bar and the service was not rude and it not was it friendly....it was perfunctory. The bartenders then spoke Spanish to one another and were laughing--which made me uncomfortable. When I paid my bill the bartender stiffed me on $5 change!! I pointed it out to him and he never rectified it so I rectified it by deducting $5 in my tip. Truth is, this place gets away with serving subpar garbage because of their location. Us out of town fools who are too tired to look for better are a dime a dozen but if you are reading this and you are from out of town and tired and hungry DON'T waste your money on food here. In reality I would say 3 stars because Of the pricing/food, but it's in a tourist spot so I wouldn't expect anything else. Burger was solid but no choice about how done, which always bugs be, and fries were good too. Staff was really friendly and helpful. So I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it's a really nice place to stop for a burger or pizza and a beer when walking around Chicago, or before an event at Millenium Park. read more

The first day I came here, frankly I really did not like the service or how we were taken care of. The second day... It was much better. We sat outside and enjoyed the food and the ambience. The third day, we met Jonny, the bartender, because it was so packed and we can only sit at the bar. That was when we really began to like coming here. Because it's in our hotel, it's so easy, and Jonny was the one who actually made it special! Number one, his espresso martini is the best I've had in the entire city! I don't know how he makes it so special, but it is delicious and I can't wait to have the next one. Number two, my daughter is a vegetarian and kind of a picky eater. He made it fun to be able to order exactly what she wants and it came out exactly how she likes it. Number three, they do have a really good happy hour where you can try the special appetizers and it's a good time to enjoy the park view and relax. Number four... They serve brunch till 3 PM on the weekend. Sleep late, and enjoy breakfast, and enjoy a really great Bloody Mary, that is the best! This place stopped taking orders before their actual closing time of 10 pm. That was odd and the first experience for me. We came back for for a night cap and it was already "closed" before 10 pm on a Sat night! That is unheard of for a bar but whatever's. We took our business elsewhere. Very strange. We ate here yesterday and aside from my husband's inedible bacon, the food was good and we were happy with the service with one exception. A guest from the hotel showed up barefoot and the restaurant shrugged, saying it was the hotel's responsibility despite not wanting to alert anyone from the adjoining hotel. Gross. Today we showed up and were told we could not sit at a table, despite my husband's high status with Marriott. There were open tables, but all of us hotel guests were relegated to the counter. The bar staff was not well equipped to serve so many people. They did their best, but they were put in a position to not succeed while guests received subpar service. Next time, we will fore go the breakfast, eat somewhere else and bank the points. read more

Undecided on the worth of this venue. Probably the best part about visiting is that Le Meridien Essex Hotel (Next door) will give you $15 off coupon to dine at this place each day. But you need that $15 discount! Hot Tea is $5! You're paying for the convenience - right next to hotel. The worst part is lack of variety of menu items and lack of flexibility across meals. We visited a few times over course of long weekend. Was super disappointed to learn I couldn't order brunch option after 11am on Monday morning. What's a girl want when on vacay in the city? Bummer. Also not a lot of choices. I will say the grain & arugula salad is good. Tomato soup is not exactly what you'd expect. Convenient is the major plus here. read more

The first restaurant I visited post COVID-19 and I was pleased with my experience. I've passed by this restaurant hundreds of times while walking to and from work. My friend and I came on a Friday for Happy Hour. We were seated (outside ofc - this was phase 3) quickly. The waiter asked us to take a photo of the QR code to get to their website with the menu. We were given cups and a water jug, and the cutlery were covered with the napkin. All the waiters wore masks. Order: - Fresh Cut Fries (5/5) - American Burger (5/5) ~ a 2 patty burger! - Passion Punch (5/5) - GPB Old Fashion (5/5) Pros: - Follows proper and safe protocol for outdoor dining - Delicious food and drinks - Large portions - Fast service - Beautiful aesthetics - Happy hour is very affordable (They also have unlimited brunch on Saturday and Sunday) Cons: - The burgers did not come with fries and needed to be ordered separately - I had mentioned to one of the waiters that he was wearing his KN95 mask upside down and he didn't fix it... A typical hotel restaurant: somewhat overpriced American food. I got the beet salad, which was super refreshing on a hot summer day. I wish there were more pistachios, though. It didn't really stand out, nothing to write home about. Service is good, and there's a nice selection of outdoor seating. read more

Nice, comfortable seating. I had the American breakfast, which came with eggs, home fries, a protein, and a biscuit. Eggs were cooked perfectly, but I wish the home fries were slightly crispier. Went back for dinner thinking maybe different staff would be better, not the case. We waited for a long time to get service. They brought us a bottle of water, and once we finished it, they took our bottle, but never came back with a new one. The burger and fries were good, and it did come out reasonably fast, so that's why they are getting two stars. The waiter never came by to check on us. When we were finished the waiter just sat and talked with the bartender and some other employee standing there. They just need to REALLY work on getting new staff that knows how to work. I came here to meet friends for drinks and food on a Thursday. They do not offer happy hour so if you go, so prepare to just order off the regular menu and pay regular price. I had to take stars off because service isn't good here. There is no one to sit you at the hostess stand even though it said please wait for the hostess to be seated. I waited about 8 minutes after just finding a seat myself. Our server was not very attentive and it took us time to hunt her down to place a order even though they weren't busy. I will say my burger was pretty great! Very juicy and fries were yummy as well. Margarita was decent. Ambience is pretty cool! I would say sit at the bar if you go for a cool experience. read more

Came here on a Sunday at noon and was seated in ~15 minutes. My boyfriend and I got the $30 mimosa brunch, which came with 90 minutes of bottomless mimosas + any brunch meal of your choice, and was honestly such a deal. Our waiter gave us pitchers of mimosa so we wouldn't have to wait for refills, even topping off our pitcher when we were quite close to the 90 minute limit. Food itself was fine- nothing special, but a solid meal. We ordered the steak and eggs and a sausage and Swiss omelette (by special request). Service was also good. read more

My co-workers and I came here 4 days in a row since it was one of the only restaurants within walking distance from the conference at the Hilton across the street and one of my co-works is French so she naturally gravitated toward this French restaurant. Our first time we came here it was quite a bad experience. We all ordered the kale potato soup, but were not informed that it was not available after 30 min of waiting. We got a free flatbread to make up for it. We also ordered the house salad that was missing the goat cheese until we asked for some. The manager apologized and urged us to come back the next day to try the soup. The next day we came back and tried the soup. The presentation was like a molecular gastronomy presentation. The chorizo, creme fraiche, oil and thyme were arranged in small piles in the bowl. Then the deep green kale/potato liquid was poured over the piles and all components were mixed together in a mixture of colors. The soup was outstanding. Not bitter at all from the kale. Most of the flavor came from the potatoes and the broth. The small pieces of chorizo and thyme were welcoming accents of flavor to contrast with the kale/potato mixture. Another interesting item on the menu included the steak salad with the beet strings. Quite a unique presentation with each component separate so you could combine them to your liking. Steak was cooked perfectly medium and was flavorful. The two pasta choices were a pesto pasta and a bolognaise. I didn't try the pesto pasta, but my co-worker enjoyed it very much and ordered it twice. The bolognaise was made well and had a good balance of meat flavors among the tomato base. The chicken sandwich was bigger than expected and could easily be two meals. Meat was juicy and flavorful. While the service was (eventually) good it was not fast. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and earthy which fosters a slow pace. Not a negative, but just something to consider if you have a tight schedule. read more

I was staying at Le Meridien so on a freezing night, -10C, I decided to have dinner at the Bistro. The house salad was good, fresh ingredients and light dressing. Steak frites however was underwhelming. The steak, judging by the color of a medium rare, didn't seem super fresh. The cut was average. Turing to the fries, they were sad looking, seems to prepared a long while ago - it was 7pm. For a classic bistro item, I was disappointed. So, if you are staying at the hotel and don't want to go out for a better dinner experience, this is a passable choice. Would certainly not just come here for dinner. read more

Service was amazing, we came the morning of a football game and immediately got seated. The service was fast at both getting drinks and food in. The cocktails are strong so only one is needed haha! When I arrived my friends (who arrived earlier) were pretty upset because the female servers were quite rude, and no one had come to serve them for 45+ minutes (after I got there it was another 30 or so minutes, and my friend ended up going to ask if we could put orders in). Nevertheless, drinks were alright. My friends liked the chicken sandwich, did not like the mac and cheese (they all said it was soupy), but we all were livin' for the ranch. Update: I did get a note from the management and I appreciated that responsiveness. I've added a star for that reason, but still won't be revisiting this part of their dining offerings. The single star is for the space and decor which is beautiful. It's a bit of the rich industrial feel and I thought it was well done. The main restaurant is separated from the bar and the pastry shop - neither of which I tried. The rest goes down hill from there. We were seated for lunch next to a table with leftovers underneath it and after taking our drink orders were told repeatedly that there are "no substitutions or customizations." I had to push as to why the cheese could not be taken off my sandwich and was told it's premade. Ummm, it's a hot grilled sandwich so I really hope it's not premade. Similar for my dining companion who wanted flatbread. As a hotel restaurant, I hope they rethink this. The server clearly didn't want anything to make her job more complicated, but as there were only 3 tables I thought she would have been more helpful. The food arrived and all I can say is, we won't go back. My white toast sandwich had one tiny slice of smoked salmon and nothing else. I even looked at the menu again to see if I misunderstood what I was getting. The fries were fine, but they provided one teeny teaspoon of ketchup. I didn't bother to ask for more. My companion had the plainest salad (no dressing was actually requested) and the chicken had obviously been reheated. We later spied a big pepper mill near us, but that wasn't offered either. All this for $40 after tax and a basic tip. It's so sad as I loved the predecessor. It will probably do fine with tourists, but a disappointment for the neighborhood. read more

My wife described it as an "elevated fast food burger", not that it was inherantly bad but it wasn't the style of burger she liked (e.g rather thin) Grilled cheese - 3/5. Hearty cheese serving, but the combination of cheese, tomato and bread didn't really pop in any way. It felt a little greasy. I'd love if they threw in some red onion. Fries - 3/5. Meals come with fries as your only option (unless you come for weekend brunch). Decent fries but again very simple. read more

I ordered the pesto pasta and it was delicious! The person at the host stand took my order and they were super nice and friendly. The location is perfect if you want to walk around or find other activities to do before or after. The music wasn't too loud and they have indoor/outdoor seating. Grant Park Bistro and Printer's Row Wine Shop were my saviors during the pandemic summer. Well, mostly following my wife here and there, but still. Patio? Check. Happy hour deal? Check. And uh...that's pretty much all I needed? It became our Friday routine since they were in our neighborhood and we all know things are pretty stressful still. 4-7pm Wednesday to Sunday, you can get $4 drafts, $6 cocktails, and some pretty good snacks - I recommend the mac and cheese and the burger, and the wings and fries are worthwhile to put into rotation too. Staff was good following precautions and the menu was one you scanned. You wouldn't expect this good of a deal on Michigan avenue, with great views of Grant Park right across the street, but it's almost a hidden gem - if you can call a bar on the Mag Mile that. Sadly, like many places, they've closed up shop to hibernate, but I'm looking forward to coming back in the spring! read more

Disappointing experience. I was the first patron on a Monday morning. Cute place with lots of light. I needed to use my two destination fee vouchers before leaving Chicago. I order my over priced food, and it is given to me quickly. It did not taste good. The chocolate croissant was cold, and the potatoes were too salty. I asked for my bacon to be soft instead of crispy, and that was clearly not provided. What really made the experience mind blowing in a negative way was the destination fee voucher scheme. I had two vouchers, and they would only let me use one, which was super frustrating. Like how are you going to expect me to stay in Chicago and eat at the same place more than once?? And of course I feel obligated to eat here because it is MY money I spent. Instead of allowing myself to eat at an actual "destination" restaurant in Chicago, I eat at the hotel restaurant because of the voucher just to find out they want me to eat there more than once to use both vouchers. As much as I enjoyed the food here which was very good btw it was balanced with the inattentive staff that we made reservations and those time commitments were not met and I had to contact the restaurant to make them honor the reservations after the 30 min wait time only to be brushed off to wait another 45 min,there was no ice water at the table,the creamer was not cold and the butter was melted and not solid.on the morning we went granted was a game day but it was extremely loud and crowded and could not here ourselves talk so all and all this restaurant does have good food but the atmosphere and staff leaves more to be desired,the small details! read more

This spot is right in front of the Essex hotel. Patio seating is very nice and this area of the city dies down at night. Burger is standard but tasty nonetheless. Not winning any awards by any means.
