I've had a few vehicles towed by Grants Pass Towing and now I'm having a vehicle worked on. They always show up on time, are professional, courteous, and seem to be very reasonable with their rates. To the person (Kate) complaining and giving a poor rating because of your lack of understanding of how to drive. You wrote: "On the freeway he was too busy doing his "Gangster lean" to let merging traffic on; they had to slow back down and wait for him to pass so they could merge onto the freeway. (Really dude?) Obviously he should have moved into the EMPTY fast lane next to him." That driver is in no way obligated to slow down, move over, or make any adjustments to his driving in order to let anyone on the freeway. It is 100% the responsibility of the person merging onto a freeway to adjust their speed to enter the lane. Don't believe me? Try looking up ORS 811.2851 Failure of merging driver to yield right of way. In laymams terms if you "shared a lane" with the tow truck YOU WERE VIOLATING THE LAW, (Class B Violation). You should learn to drive before you slam a company for their drivers lawful driving. Have a nice day. read more

I drove up to Oregon from Southern California and noticed my brakes were vibrating, especially through the mountains. My brother called and asked Mike if we could have him check the brakes. Even though he was booked solid, he said bring it in. Ended up all 4 of my rotors were warped and he replaced them same day. He went above and beyond what I expected. Avoid Grants Pass Towing and Auto Repair. Had to set up a tow for the following day, as they were busy due to a storm. We asked them to call 15 min prior to the tow to confirm they were coming so we could be at the vehicle for the driver, they said they would. It got close to tow time, no word from GP Towing- so we called them. The lady who answered had no idea what the drivers were doing. She "thought" they were coming to do our tow but had no idea, and said she'd call us back. She never did. Our roadside assistance called to confirm we received service, when we said no, they called GP Towing, who lied and said they called us but we didn't answer. Roadside assistance remarked that the lady was short and rude with him. We still needed a tow so he called back up to set another one up, the lady then said she left us a message and she wouldn't set up a tow. She didn't call back, and she most definitely didn't leave a message! I'm glad some people have had good experiences with this place, and maybe the drivers are great. I wouldn't know since they never showed up. But, the dispatch/phone lady is a liar, and rude. There are lots of other towing operations in town- use them first! read more

I had a timing belt on my Kia bust on me and was able to push the car off into a parking lot. My boyfriend found a good Yelp review for these guys, so we decided to give them a shot. These guys towed my car, and worked their magic to repair it. It took 3 weeks to repair because the parts had to be ordered and it was over the Christmas / New Yer holidays. When I picked up my car, I heard a rattling sound. I brought it back and it was a simple little cover that needed tightening (they didn't charge me for this). Now my car runs so smoothly that it's even better then I first bought it 115,000 miles ago. I was dealing with Mike, who is (I think) the owner. I would feel confident recommending this shop to anyone - I felt that they were honest, gave me a great deal on the repairs (and it was a hefty amount of dough!) and just overall take serious approach to business. Very professional, courteous, and seem to have a ton of experience. NOTE: We thought they were in Grants Pass, but they actually moved to Merlin a little over a year ago. BEWARE....This is an unprofessional, dishonest, and disrespectful group. Needed an RV tow, they were called by our roadside assistance/insurance company, and an appointment was set. They called much later in the day (as it was getting dark) and said the driver was not comfortable doing the tow in the dark. We agreed they would come to tow at 9am next morning. We were never called, no one ever showed up, and calls to them by roadside assistance were either not answered or put on hold and never answered. They called 10-12 times, I called at least 10 times and was finally talked to (AT) by the rudest, most unprofessional, liar I have ever dealt with at a business. She lied to me saying she talked to roadside assistance, then lied to them saying I cursed her out. All they EVER had to do was say they couldn't/ wouldn't do it. read more

If you want an honest ethical mechanic, stear clear, Mike is not the man for you. He over charged me, lied about what he did, charged 200 dollars to put a set of spark plugs in, said he did a diagnostic, ran worse than when we brought it in. Back in August we had to have our Motorhome towed. We used our Good Sam Roadside Assistance and they contacted GP Towing. The tow truck driver bent our front bumper as well as tore the Fiberglass lower corner of our Motorhome on the drivers side. The driver left us the card and told us to call the office to file a claim to get it fixed. September 14th we emailed pictures, and a few days later sent them an estimate to get it fixed. They are horrible about returning our phone calls and emails, and we are still waiting to get a response about them fixing our damn Motorhome. EXTREMELY unhappy at this point. The tow truck driver was very unprofessional, when I told him I wanted my vehicle towed to the dealer he said no he had to take it to the lot. He then called his "Manager" who said they could take it to the dealers if I paid him on the spot. When I told him I have coverage for towing and if he would not take my truck to the dealer I could call Caveman as I know my Triple AAA and on star cover towing he said "too late, either pay me or I take it to our lot". He then proceeded to threaten to take my car to the lot if I made him mad. Threatened to call the cops and have me arrested for telling him I thought he was a crook. I would not recommend them to anyone. I have used Caveman, Bulldog and Dixon towing and they are all great. read more

On the way down South we were traveling in a Truck car caravan. The snow was coming down hard and we could barely see 10" in front of us. On the way down the pass my timing belt broke on an intervention engine. We went with Grants Pass Towing & Repair because for one the driver took us to a motel, and highly recommended their shop. We had no idea who to go through. But after calling around we found everyone else to busy, and not to helpful. The tow truck drive said from my description it sounded like the timing belt broke and he said that it is usually an engine destroying event. So after having the owner of Grants Pass Towing & repair confirm my greatest fears he tell me it will cost at the least around $400.00 to $2000.00. But he would replace the belt, and run compression test and let me know how bad it was by 2pm that day. So after some gut wrenching hours of waiting he called around 1:30 and his first words were, "you should go out and buy some lottery tickets" OMG I tell you $400.00 for a automobile repair never seemed so cheap, These guys were honest, and they totally could have taken advantage of me. But when I picked up my 01 Frontier I found them to be very happy for me. They knew what I was going through with the worry and they reassured me that I was very lucky to not have any major engine damage. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone. They were very timely in getting my truck repaired, and honest. Great to know there are still people like these guys around doing business. So if your driving through Grants Pass and need any work done or a tow, call on Grants Pass Towing and Repair. They were called by my roadside service plan and gave an ETA of 2 hours due to "traffic". Traffic? In Josephine county? Two hours went by and they did not show so the roadside company phoned them and were told "we're on our way and will be there in 20 minutes". Nearly an hour later, they told the roadside service company that their truck had "just broken down on the way to my call". I find it hard to believe the excuses for these escalating delays and eventual cancellation of the call. read more

I have had my car in to Grants Pass Towing and Repair twice in the past few years. In both instances they provided quality work and great customer service. Their labor rates are very affordable and for both visits they were able to get me in on short notice. Mike (who I believe is the owner) is honest and straightforward, the epitome of a good, local businessman. He has been forthcoming about whether the issues my car has need to be addressed today or at some future date. I am still impressed that he has been willing to take me out onto the shop floor with my car on the lift to show me problems firsthand (try getting the dealership to allow this). The most recent time they had my car (replacing rear shocks) they completed the job, but noticed the ABS light was illuminated on the dash. Although there did not seem to be any definitive proof, Mike decided that in replacing the shocks they had loosened a wiring harness. To remedy this and get me back on the road, he had a new wire overnighted and installed at no additional cost to me. A dishonest mechanic could have weaseled his way out of this, billed me for the labor, or let me sit around for a few days waiting for the part to arrive. The mechanic even came over to apologize personally for the minor delay. In retrospect, this slight inconvenience was totally worth the peace of mind that comes with knowing I've found an honest mechanic. read more

I once had a roommate who was a mechanic. A very good mechanic and this is where he worked. I never had this roommate work on my cars, because neither of them needed it! I did need a battery for my Hooptie 89 Ford Escort Pony (named Baz that thinks and acts like a bad ass 4WD) and Mike, the owner at GPT&R gave me one at cost. That was good! I initially spent time at the shop just going up to annoy roommate to see when he was getting off work so we could raft the river, go hang out or whatever. The shop is very clean and well organized with at least 4 or 5 or those rack things that elevate your car so the mechanic can work on it with ease. Fast forward to Christmas season '06. I'm driving my new, Not a Hooptie car (Mercury Sable, named Mable, that doesn't need to be worked on) and the damned power steering unit and the serpentine belt just FALL THE F&$K OFF!!! I'm in the middle of SHOPPING people! I'm in a parking lot!! This car won't go without smoke billowing out from under the hood! I park. Okay, so a day or so later I call GPT&R for a tow job to my house. The good folks there were Johnny on the spot and towed me for a flat, reasonable fee since I don't have towing. I leave the car parked at home and start driving Baz. Come January, the clutch goes out on this baby. I call a local "mobile mechanic" and explain the problems with both cars, tell him I want a new clutch in Baz because I knew (from talking to now ex-roommate, former employee of GPT&R but still a good mechanic) that my Mable the Sable needs rack & pinion, serpentine belt & power steering unit to run like a top. Sounds expensive to me and I have a 6 months pregnant medically needy daughter and 6 y/o grandson coming to live with me! Mobile Mechanic convinces me that Mable the Sable would be cheaper to fix, the rack & pinion is fine, etc. & tows it away. He then proceeds to give me a jive ass runaround for weeks, while I'm telling him I need a f'in car!!! A couple weeks later, on a Friday morning, I call GPT&R and speak to Mike, one of the owners, re: Baz & a Clutch. He quotes me a very reasonable price, to include towing from my house to his shop. Tells me he'll have Baz on the road by the end of the day. After he gets Baz taken apart he calls to let me know I also need a front axle and how much more $$$ it will cost. Since he's already got the car apart, he's not going to charge labor for the axle. I say go for it buddy!!! He does and within one day I have a running vehicle that cost far less to fix than what I ended up paying (ransom) to get Mable back after several weeks with mobile mechanic. These guys are honest, professional, helpful and do exactly what they say they are going to do within the time frame they quote you. If something comes up, they tell you right away. These people are very, very nice human beings. My wife had a blowout in Gold Hill and our insurance called G.P. Towing for roadside assistance. The gentleman tow driver was exceedingly kind and reassuring to my wife, and was conscious of safety on the side of the freeway. His speedy response and helpfulness allowed my wife to get to an important meeting in Medford which she would have been late for otherwise. My pickup broke down at a rest area near Grants Pass on 2/13/2010 and I called Grants Pass Towing. They towed me into Grants Pass. The driver was in a big hurry and did not take down my insurance information correctly. On March 4 I received a call from a totaly different insurance company saying that they were contacted about my towing bill. On March 9, I contacted Grants Pass Towing to give them the correct information AGAIN, and was treated very rudly on the phone. The owner was the one I was talking to, he started raising his voice to me and would not listen to what I was trying to say, so I hung up. He called me back and proceeded to yell at me and threatened to turn me over to collections and then called me a dumb shit and hung up one me. You decide; IS THIS THE KIND OF COMPANY YOU WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH? I would not recomend them to my worst enemy. read more
