Chicken Gyro & Extra Crispy Sweet Potato Fries...So Good..!
    Paul S.

I Love, Love, Love Grape Vine. This is a very nice family run business. The Owners Phillip & Jill are good people. Check Out my photos. The food is so good. Prices are right on for the Newton Highlands area, pretty affordable. The Grape Leaf is clean, staff is nice and helpful. Everything on the menu is incredible. My personal favorites are the Sweet Potato Fries. Ask for them "Extra Crispy". I also really like the chicken Gyros, Salads & the Homemade Greek Yogurt is amazing. Grape Vine is also Wheelchair accessible "No Power Door" but someone will open it for you. They do take Credit Cards as well. Eating here, you will not be disappointed.

Despite the vertical rotisseries on display, the lamb gyro I ordered looked and tasted like boiled meat. It resembled nothing like I would expect to come off a rotisserie. The meat was floppy like a roast beef. Definitely would not try that again. Their hand cut pita chips appear to be deep fried and improperly seasoned. Some pieces were coated in salt and some pieces had no salt at all. They were crunchy on the outside but then spongy and dripping oil which typically means the oil was not hot enough. I had also ordered a pastitsio which to my dismay when I got home, looked like it was leftovers from last month. The top was a displeasing grey brown color and was dry with an odd aroma. Pretty much no béchamel sauce. See sad photo. I rarely ever throw away food but unfortunately I threw it out because I was worried about getting sick, especially with that pastistio. Terribly disappointing.

I was excited to hear that a new Greek restaurant was opening in Newton Highlands because it is my favorite kind of food. They had a grand opening a week ago Saturday (that we missed) so my first trip was last Tuesday. My wife and I were offered samples of the chicken and pork it was awesome! We decided to get the chicken kabob Gyro with Home made pita and tzatziki and a side of rice pilaf. It was delicious to put it mildly. Fresh and yummy! I highly recommend eating here. We have been back a few times since our first visit !

Grape Leaf in Newton has outdoor dining, socially distanced.

I always liked their tofu gyros, and now they have real silverware and napkins for the seated area.

Easily the best greek food in Boston, although the Feisty Greek is also on point. Highly recommend the gyro or the moussaka.

Friendly, efficient service- definitely seems like a family business. It's classic Greek fare (not a pizza joint) featuring rotisserie meats and fresh grill items with an array of hot/cold Mediterranean apps & sides. Recently the small dining room was made over a bit and now is a charming casual sit-down spot for lunch and Dinner... but I think most of the business is takeout. You cannot go wrong with the Greek salad with the amazing creamy tangy herby Greek dressing with any protein on there. The kebabs, grill items like chicken/salmon/lamb are infused with fresh grilled flavor. The veggie dishes and spreads are delicious, the Tzatziki & Hummus are fresh and both light yet rich. The avogolemono soup is very nice (perfect for hangover or if you have a cold) and I love the stuffed grape leaves & spanikopita. All the standard hot sides are great- try the sweet butternut squash purée, tomato-y green beans, and corn or rice pilaf. I always top off the order with a Mythos (bottled Greek beer), tastes great and I like the fun red pull tab. Parking is very tight so be prepared to park on street. Check it out!

One thing that was unclear is how much bread/salad comes with the meals and sides we ordered, so we over-ordered bread and salad, which id want to avoid in the future. Would order again!

First time at Bar Vlaha with a friend- overall, solid but not life changing…read more We started with spreads and bread and we got the trio: Kopanisti (whipped feta), Melitzanosalata (charred eggplant), and Taramosalata (carp roe). The dips were all good. The whipped feta was creamy, the eggplant had that nice smoky depth and the taramosalata was super interesting, very briny in the best "yes, this is definitely roe" kind of way. Only note is that the Horiatiko Psomi (house bread) could've been warm/toasted for my preference especially given the price of the dips, I expected the bread to be a little more elevated too Then we got the Lahanodolmades (cabbage stuffed with beef and pork, rice, mint, avgolemono). Well seasoned, the cabbage was tender without falling apart and that lemony avgolemono sauce tied everything together- it was bright and savory. For mains, we shared the Moschari me Damaskina (red wine-braised beef cheeks with prunes, trahanas) and Arni stin Souvla (slow-roasted lamb leg). The beef cheek was ridiculously tender- like barely touch it and it falls apart. Rich, slightly sweet from the prunes, with that warm spice note of the cinnamon that balanced the tomato acidity really nicely. The lamb was cooked well and definitely tasty but nothing super extravagant compared to other Greek lamb dishes I've had. Still really yummy especially with the onions and a squeeze of lemon cutting through the lamb. Portion-wise, the pricing felt a little high for what you get but the ambience is beautiful, definitely a great date night spot. Low lighting, cozy, feels elevated without being stuffy

Some things are good, some are fine. - Dips: eggplant, tzatziki, whipped feta (6.5/10): I think I've had better of all of these at different restaurants, so I wasn't too impressed by these. - manitaria (6.1/10): these mushrooms weren't that flavorful - lamb chops (9.3/10): my favorite thing on the menu! so flavorful and juicy. The cocktails here are pretty good! Overall a 4/5 because the service and ambiance are amazing.

I appreciated how much this place leans into both cultures from decor showcases both cultures to their balanced menu featuring dishes from both. There is ample seating at this place and dont let the construction outside deter you because they are open. We ordered the cheese manakish to start, and this might have been my favorite dish. Balanced with two types of cheese with a light airy texture to it kept it from feeling too dense. The pita its on is crunchy and thin, and theres a drizzle of sauce, likely some form of pesto, that cuts the flavor making it a truly enjoyable dish. We also ordered the chicken kebabs and roasted jerk chicken. The kebabs were a great portion with tender chicken, some greens, and grains. I personally could have used more tzakai, but thats a personal preference. Overall though, the meal did not feel heavy and I left feeling full but not overtly stuffed which I was happy with. My husband's jerk chicken was a sizable dish. The chicken was tender and fell right off the bone, and the pilaf had a nice flavor to it. Overall we really enjoyed our meals. The service can take some time, but its a super small staff so just be patient.
