This place is consistently amazing! The owner and her team are awesome. Sit at the bar and have a conversation with them and you will have a great time! They host fun events from floral design classes to live music to bingo to Galantines Day. They are our favorite stop on the Middleton Sip and Stroll wine walk. The atmosphere is the perfect balance of comfortable and classy. You can come in wearing jeans and a t-shirt and play a board game, come in with friends and do a craft kit from Revel, or come in before or after a nice dinner or fancy event. They have a great rotating selection wines but also have bubbly, beer and seltzer. You can order a pizza from Salvatore's or build your own charcuterie plate. They do a great job of serving things that support other local businesses. I can't recommend this place more! read more

I came here for a fun networking event that was tucked away in their little lofted area in the back. They have some great seating and games tucked in there. It's a great space! You can order food while you are there, they have a wine dispenser bar and all sorts of cute glasses to choose from! I am not a wine drinker but they had some beer options too! I didn't even know this place was here until I drove by it a few months ago in downtown Middleton. This is a great spot that is unique to the rest of Middleton bars/restaurants. There are plenty of places you can go in the Middleton area that happen to serve wine, but Grape Water is specifically dedicated to wine, wine, wine. They have roughly 10 red and 10 whites available at a self-serve station with descriptions on the menu. I loved that they had a light-bodied red lighter than a pinot noir - often hard to find! They also have bubbling wines. You can pick your pour size from three different options and there's happy hour pricing from 4-6p! There are some snack options - meats and cheeses, mostly - that you can buy at the bar. They also have FREE white popcorn that is delicious. Their website also says you can bring in food that they don't offer, so that's awesome. What's also great is you can take your non-wine drinking friends here too as they have a selection of beer in bottles and sparking waters (non-alcoholic). The space itself is actually quite large with plenty of seating at tall bar tables, window spaces, or couches and coffee tables in the upstairs area. There are shelves full of card and board games to play while you sit as well. I wish the actual bar had more seating at it, but not a deal breaker. A great place to stop in and socialize with friends that's a bit more on the intimate/quiet side compared to a lot of other bars. Definitely check it out! Not great for wheelchairs, though. What an incredible little gem of a wine bar! We arrived from California last night thirsty & hungry and found this place. The wine selection was top notch. My friends and I came here for the first time tonight as part of the 'Let's Go Wine Tasting on the Couch' event. Tonight they were showcasing 2 California and 2 New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. I don't want to talk about the event too much, since this wouldn't be what a typical night at Grape Water would be like. I will, however say that it was a wonderful event, and we cannot wait until the next one! The inside of Grape Water is very spacious, yet cozy. There are two levels and a mixture of tables, chairs, and couches. The bar and self serve wine station are on the lower level, but are still very accessible to those on the upper level. The wine selection was very good with a variety of reds, whites, and at least one rose'. The wine I really wanted to try was empty and there was another selection that was also empty. I know this tends to be an issue at self serve wine bars, and it's a little disappointing. I did think the prices were very fair, especially for the smaller sized pours. It's nice to be able to try an inexpensive sample before committing to a full glass. The staff was wonderful, very warm and welcoming. I won a Grape Water T-shirt at the event and they let me try on the sizes in their office (the bathroom was unavailable). I really appreciated that, they were so sweet and accommodating. I do have to wonder how having only one single seat bathroom works out during a busy night. I can see that maybe being an issue. All in all, I LOVED my first visit to Grape Water and I cannot wait to return. Thanks for a wonderful night. read more

I wish we would have discovered this wine bar earlier in our vacation. Not only is it well designed with a great atmosphere and a fun experience, but the neighborhood is super cute too. Basically, they have turned wine pouring into a self-serve operation. It couldn't be any better. I like that they have a brochure explaining each kind of wine as you sit down and drink your choices. It's a no pressure ways to trying different wines. It takes the pressure out of "knowing your wines". Are you new to wines? Know what you like? It fits all categories. read more

Nice concept... a sort of serve yourself style wine bar. They allow you to get three different size pours, which is nice because you can sample at a modest price before committing to a large pour of something. It allows you to be a little adventurous. There are no local wines... because they want you to try wines you can't get at any bar in town. They also have a selection of local snacks including, cheeses, crackers and chocolate. Because of course cheese and chocolate goes with wine! There are outside tables and several seating options including a small bar. If I lived closer, I'd be here every week. I love the concept. They have at least a dozen wines on tap, and you use a card to dispense one of 3 serving sizes of any of the wines. You can have just a taste, a half glass or a full glass. They have regular wine glasses and mugs that say "shhhh...there's wine in here", which I LOVE. The back room feels like a living room, with couches, blankets and soft lighting. I could imagine meeting friends here for a good long chat and some wine. I was also pleased with the range of prices. Q: Can you really have too much wine? A: Is that even a pertinent question?!? Of course not!! So it is with open arms we Oenophiles welcome the area's newest wine bar, grape water, to downtown Middleton. While dining in the area has gone up in scale the last few years, there hasn't been a corresponding rise in thirst quenching establishments....grape water to the rescue! Using the same set-up as another establishment in Verona, this is a self-serve wine bar. Much like how area casinos operate, but with a much better pay-off, hand over a credit card, get one back that's pre-loaded with money, grab your glass, insert the card, pick your wine and pour size, press the button, and ding! ding! ding! Jackpot almost every time! I say almost as not everyone likes every wine every time, but it's wine! So have you really lost?! There are 8 choices of red and the same number of whites. Three different pour sizes with pricing shown for each pour size. Wines will change out regularly, so one you really liked may not be there the next time. That's the fun of these places though, you're always discovering new wines! If you're headed here soon, definitely try the Roth Cabernet! The decor is a bit austere but plenty of tables for small groups as well as comfortable seating groups. They've just opened, so not yet ready for happy hour specials or food plates but they're on the drawing board. In the meantime, free popcorn! They do offer a few beers for your grape-abhorring friends. I've only given 4 stars because they just opened but I'm impressed so far. I have been coming to Madison for some time and I have to say having this wine bar next to Louisianian's is perfect. I came across this place after dinner and was so happy I did. The owner was there and she was so nice and welcoming. The layout is perfect for pre-drinks, after-drinks, or just come to drink wine you are set. They give you a card, you walk over to the machines and you taste whatever wine that you want. You're also able sip, relax, and play a few card/board games in the back. I visited Grape Water the second week they were open and the place was packed! Lots of seating (love the comfy couches!) Excellent wine selection - both white and red. The establishment is cozy and perfect for a glass of wine after work or late afternoon to break up some shopping you might be doing in the neighborhood. When you arrive, you get a card and it's a self service wine bar, where you put your glass under whichever type of wine you'd like to taste or drink, and it pours into your glass. I love the idea of this wine bar. The location is very cute, cozy, and fun. Unfortunately, this may just be a one time deal for me. The price you pay for a glass is about the same as a restaurant, aka overpriced. The whole tap thing is cool, except for that it's always running out. And the buttons on the machine also don't work well. The first glass I got there, it ran out right away because it was already pretty much empty. I opted for the smallest glass size too. The worker emptied the rest for me as she replaced it, but I right away got ripped off and didn't get the full amount so I was already not a fan. She didn't seem to care/notice even. The selection is pretty minimal. One of each kind (moscato, chardonnay, etc). They try to get fancy nancy wines to make up for the price per glass, but I actually didn't find myself liking any of these any more than a bottle of barefoot (but maybe that's just the WI girl in me but I have still toured Sonoma and Napa and enjoyed it). Overall this is a fun place to meet up with some girlfriends, chat over a glass or two, but I'm really not a big fan of this it otherwise due to price and the tap system. Honestly, I've thought about taking friends here to catch up, but ended up deciding against it because I didn't feel comfortable bringing my friends somewhere where we'd spend so much just to have a few drinks (again, this is WI, we're not just going to sip ONE [half] glass of wine). There are a lot of other places I can get more for my money, and I'd also rather just go buy the 2 bottles from the store for the price of 2 fills here. It would be nice for them to implement more local wines too, that maybe they could get for a better price and have them on their taps cheaper. It'd be a fun way to try local ones, and promote their business in the area for people to go buy their bottles after trying it here. read more
