Retaining wall, paver patio, and turf.
    Mike R.

Brent and his crew did such an awesome job! From the time we went to quote to finishing the projects, they were professional and listened to what we wanted! Brent took the time to meet us where the pavers and retaining wall materials were and showed us what we could do. This really helped my wife visualize what the project would look like. We relied on Brent's knowledge and experience to build us the backyard we wanted. When they broke ground, we ran into some issues with a boulder in the backyard but they worked through it. We're so happy with how fast they finished our project and we're realistic about the timeline. I can't wait to do our next project with Grassroots. Also, a big shout out to Dan, Justin, and the rest of thee guys. They were super hard workers!

I'd like to start off by saying when Brent and the guys are at the job site, they do good work but I'm pretty disappointed with the customer service we received when we needed repairs done. When the sprinklers were repaired, the cheapest sprinkler heads were used. I would have rather paid for the more expensive heads but I was not given a choice. When our first run happened with the sprinklers we found that about half our heads were not working. I contacted Brent on May 23rd and we discussed repairs and was told he would have his guy come out and repair the broken heads along with try to figure out why one of our heads was not working at all in our front flowerbed. I was rescheduled 4 times before someone came out to do the sprinkler heads and fix a prior problem with our patio pavers. I was told by Brent that he did not know why our front flowerbed sprinkler head would not work nor did he want to figure out why so my husband ended up digging up our front flowerbed to find the burst line that turned into a geyser and found the new head had been put on a dry line instead of the water line that was in use. During the patio installation, Brent and his guys found our siding to be rather rotted and said he had a siding guy and a handyman that could come out and do the work. On May 26, Brent asked when a good day would be to bring his siding guy out and we had agreed on June 8th, that day came and gone and I never heard from or saw either Brent or his siding guy. I was then told he was busy and couldn't come out until his next free weekend which also never came. I was later told he wouldn't be able to do our siding and I needed to find my own company to do the work before the patio could be finished but was told Grassroots would come out and fix any gaps or replace any pavers that were removed by the siding guys. Our siding was completed on July 12th, on the same day I texted Brent and told him our siding has been completed. On July 30th, I messaged Brent again letting him know he and his guys could come finish our patio. On August 3rd, I was told he could come out and complete our project the following week but due to the extreme heat we were pushed off which is completely understandable. I worked outside during the extreme heat so I did not blame the guys one bit for not wanting to be out in it. On August 16th, I asked Brent if he would be filling in our largest gap under our patio door where the siding was replaced, with pavers or mortar and was asked what I would prefer. I asked for pavers, while remembering back in June he had said he would do any repairs and replace pavers that needed to be replaced, I was told if I wanted pavers than I would need to pay an ADDITIONAL $500 for the materials and labor. I politely asked why I would need to pay MORE money when it should already come with the work being as our patio was incomplete. I was told it was because he would have to remove a portion of our patio and relay/recut pavers. I have a hard time understanding this especially since the gap is big enough to be able to add pavers without having to remove prior laid pavers. I tried bringing up the point of how odd it would look to have a 6inx4ft section of mortar and recieved a message from Brent asking what I wanted him to do then. At this point I was extremely frustrated and was feeling like I was lied to and being taken advantage of. After paying $9197 for our job, I'm feeling rather frustrated having to shell out an ADDITIONAL $500 for work that should be included. I had to walk away from the conversation for a day and mule over my options. My husband and I called a family friend who does construction and got a bid from him. He is willing to come behind Grassroots and fill in our gap for MUCH cheaper than what grassroots wants to charge. On August 17th, I took a picture and marked with an X where I would like Brent to mortar and told him I would have someone else fill in the gap under the patio door. On August 18th, Brent texted me and asked if I wanted to keep the rest of the balance due which was $500 and ask the new guy to do the mortar as well. Grassroots was scheduled to come finish our job August 19th. In the beginning my husband and I thought very highly of Grassroots and now we are left frustrated. We try really hard not to be customers who complain or nit pick but we have been saving our money for 3 years for this project so we expected some decency. **Grassroots Construction has also changed their name recently from Grassroots Landscape Maintenance to avoid the low star ratings and bad reviews from previous customers. ** We are very disappointed. We wanted to use them for another paver project but will be looking elsewhere.

We hired Grassroots Construction to repair several areas in our yard that were damaged during the ice storm last winter. The work was very detailed, such as matching the existing deck railing which is a combination of wood & metal. Brenton's crew also added some custom finishes that we had requested. Lastly, the crew recreated a putting green that we had installed a year ago, which came out looking MUCH better than the work done by the previous company. Brenton and his team did an excellent job, took very good care of our home & yard, communicated well and were a joy to have around. Our only complaint was the long time it took to get on their calendar, but I think that is to be expected for a quality company during these busy times. I'd definitely recommend Grassroots for anyone's project.

We recently hired Grassroots Construction for a complete remodel of our back deck and front porch. We recently bought our house and upon moving in noticed that our decks were dangerous and instantly knew we were going to have to have them redone. We received several quotes and Grassroots Construction was the easiest to communicate with as well as provided the most competitive quote. Brent arrived for the quote on time and on the day we had arranged. We hadn't considered that this was the busiest time for businesses of this nature. Brent was kind, knowledgable, communicative and confident from the very start. There is something to be said, these days, about a handshake and the ability to look someone in the eye during a handshake that instills confidence and establishes trust. Brent runs his business with integrity and honesty. Throughout the entire project Brent and his crew kept us informed and abreast to any progress. Brent takes great pride in his work and this has shown from the minute he provided the quote through the completion of the project. We are so happy that we decided to go with Grassroots Construction. They have gained a forever customer, that's us! We are so pleased with our decks and now when any neighbor walks by they admire our decks and we say with confidence and a smile that we highly recommend Grassroots Construction.

Told 12 hrs before job start they were running behind. Asked if they could push to Thursday, said no problem, confirmed 8am start.

Reached out to GC regarding a patio project for a ~160sqft area in our townhome's lower yard. Brenton came out for an estimate, was very friendly, but made us aware they don't typically do small projects like this. We've been slowly transforming our yard from the previous owners who let weeds grow 4-6' high, but with a high needs baby, our projects are very slow or just don't happen. We needed someone to dig and level the patio area. Brenton gave us an estimate for our patio and a couple other yard projects, which were fair pricing, but not in our budget while only one of us is working and on a pandemic salary cut. We agreed to just have the patio leveling done, which includes dig work, breaking up a small slab step, grinding the edge, etc. We were given availability and chose Wednesday 5/6, and were told it could be sooner. Tuesday night, less than 12hrs before job start, we get a text they're running behind and asked if they can push back to Thursday. We said no problem, and confirmed 8am start. On Wednesday, our original day, they say they're still running behind on their current project and that they'll get a later start on Thursday, if not first thing Friday morning. Told them that's fine, and after 1pm would be good for us. I let them know Thursday that our little one was up already, so it's ok if they can start earlier than 1pm. No response. Got a voicemail at 1pm. Returned call. Brenton offered a discount to push to Monday, but I told him we needed the project done by the weekend, so we could finish the pavers ourselves, since there's a week straight of rain in the forecast starting Monday. He said they could have someone over sometime Friday, or he can send someone over "today" (this was Thursday) to start and they can finish up on Friday. I told him that's fine, and asked what time someone would be over to start, he said between 4-5pm. 5pm Thursday rolls on by. I followup, asking if someone is still coming by to start, and that my husband stayed home from work to be here while the work is done. No response. No call. No email. Sent email and text Thursday evening after being ghosted and delayed multiple times, saying if the work can't be completed Friday or Saturday, to cancel. Again, no response. We passed up other bids because we liked Brenton's work and perceived professionalism. We get that our $1800 project might be pennies to you, but a customer is a customer, regardless. It's very unprofessional to repeatedly reschedule and then not even respond after someone was supposed to be here to start. Either underpromise and overdeliver, (not vice versa), or plan a couple tolerance/floater days between each project, so you're not pushing around someone else's job or overbooking yourself. We will remove this review if Grassroots Construction redeems themself and completes our work this weekend (5/8-5/10). **Edited to update: Not one call, text, or email to remedy the situation. After digging deeper, we see the company was listed/operated under a different name "GrassRoots Landscape Maintenance," to which a handful of negative reviews iterate similar situations. They created a new company name and yelp listing to hide their less than 4 star review average.

Two paver patios, decorative hvac cover, turf and stained fence - dream backyard!

Love our 2 new patios, turf, and stained fence!!! Our pups are beyond happy with their new yard!! They took our backyard from unusable to where we spend all our free time. The crew is extremely professional and did a great job! We had them do a couple projects at our last house as well and have been extremely happy with all their work.

I hired Grassroots construction to add gravel to my driveway. My driveway is very long and has many divots and areas with uneven ground. Brenton named a good price for the job and was able to complete the work at that estimate. He was very responsive and timely throughout the process. We only had to schedule once and the job was completed on that day. His employees were professional, respectful, friendly, and did great work!

Before - a muddy mess and a patch of sod

Through three days of rain and snow(!) Brenton and his good-spirited, hardworking crew turned 3000 square feet of mud and slop into a gorgeous landscape with a patio, gravel walkways, 1500 square feet of sod, laurel hedges and an assortment of plants and trees. Rather than "calling it a day" when they were ahead of schedule, the team added some additional features to the job. What I especially appreciated was Brenton's communication, willingness to take extra time to meet me at the plant supply store, and understanding for the nature of my project and budget restraints. He and his team were helpful making suggestions along the way and finding solutions for the minor obstacles that all projects throw at you. The final invoice was exactly as we had discussed and very competitive compared to other bids. It's great to have a local team of professionals that I can call on for future jobs!

Brenton was easy to work with, and did a fantastic job with the bark chips, cement areas, and pea gravel.

Not a small job, and an emergency one, because she LOVED running around the neighbors' yards. Lucian and his Dad braved the elements on extremely short notice, and built an entire new fence (mostly in the rain) for a great price. They gave me lots of upgrades, like unknotted wood, and thicker footers, and were incredibly fast and efficient. Its beautiful. That should have been enough, but - no - then my about six months later my back neighbors got their own Bernadoodle puppy, and the two dogs decided they didn't want a fence, so my pitty figured out how to pound her head against the boards until they bowed, then get her jaws on the wood, and tear through it. Lucian agreed that metal roof panels attached to the back fence would probably work (either that or an electric cattle fence), so he and his son came back out with the panels, cut them to fit, and spent a day attaching them, which - it turns out - is not as easy as it sounds. Again, quick service and excellent value. This family business, NW Modern, is fantastic, and I highly recommend them. And yes - it appears the metal roof panels are working!

They were all very friendly and trustworthy. We are very pleased with our deck replacements and the dry rot pieces they both identified and replaced on our front support columns. Bruce also hung up our new address numbers for us at the conclusion of the project, which was a big help for us! We did not receive an invoice until the very end of the project (after 3 of 4 payments were made), but did receive one nonetheless. Despite this, we don't have any concern about Bruce and his team coming out to repair anything that should arise. Though, we don't expect that to happen based on the quality work they provided. Their focus is on their craft, not the administrative pieces of the business. I highly recommend Shaffer & Sons and will keep Bruce's contact information should we, our friends, or family members require any work completed in the future.
