    After plant installation

Alex did such an amazing job with our yard, and we are beyond thrilled with the finished project. We wanted a low maintenance, drought-tolerant yard, and we were in love with the first draft Alex created, only having to make a few minor modifications. His vision and artistic design was incredible, and we were very impressed with how he very much understood our vision just from a couple of conversations. He is also super amazing to work with--listened to our wishes with the project, helped us keep the cost down, had some creative ideas for plants to include, and did all the work in a relatively short amount of time. Plus he has just a super warm and friendly personality! On planting day, the workers who came were also amazing, and I even got to help plant with them (not required, just my choice!). I had a super fun day in the yard with everyone and was able to learn a lot from them. Alex has also returned a handful of times to check up on plants, tweak the incredible irrigation system he installed, and replace the few plants that didn't make it (again, very much to be expected with a big project like ours was). It was such an enjoyable experience, and I would absolutely recommend hiring Alex for any project you have. We are thrilled with the finished product and are already scheming on more outdoor projects just so we can work with him again!

Alex at Friendly Portland Landscaping completely transformed our yard into a gorgeous, easy to maintain place that makes it so wonderful to come home to. Alex guided us through the entire process, listening to our vision while offering input and expertise when needed. We could not be happier with the result and highly recommend Friendly Portland Landscaping.

Alex did an incredible job transforming our yard into a pollinator-friendly xeriscape with native plants! Our front yard was all sad, dry grass that sloped down to the sidewalk and a big pine tree and bark chips. Now it pops with a variety of evergreen plants and native specials, fresh mulch and a new wall - it has lots of curb appeal and is better than I could've imagined! We hired Alex because he was quick to respond and a great communicator, he drafted up a detailed proposal quickly and demonstrated that he has extensive knowledge of plants and landscaping designs. He presented a beautiful design with photoshop that helped us envision the final results. He made the whole process seamless and easy. Even with a few challenges along the way such as finding a contractor to install a concrete wall, he negotiated on our behalf and made some changes to the plan to keep it in budget. He is a hard worker and really passionate about his work. If you want a landscaper who can move quickly and go above and beyond, Alex is the one to hire!

Terrible finished product, at twice the bidded price…read more Upon calling Joe for a bid, he requested the address so he could come out and look at the site before bidding it. (The work site was accessible from the alley so we we didn't need to be home for him to review it). A week later, I texted and asked if he'd been by, and if he had any questions. He sent a bid, which was lower than others and we booked him for the work. On the day of, Joe announced that he was charging us twice as much because he didn't know there was any demo/paver removal involved- which he would know if he'd looked at the site before bidding the project. We were frustrated but agreed because the timing was critical for the next phase of our project. The bid was for 8" deep, with rebar. I came out when he was 1/3 of the way into the pour to discover Joe was pouring 2"-6" deep, with no rebar. When I questioned him, he flatly lied and said it was 8" depth until I offered to get a measuring tape, at which point he admitted it wasn't. He then tried to pour using our uneven pavers as the form. When confronted he noted he'd use an even edge- we afterward discovered he used lumber from our property for framing the pour. There are so many more issues, I wont outline them all. The end result cost twice as much as originally bid, and may need to be jackhammered out so that it can be poured correctly.

Joe and his crew are very nice people and are very skilled replacing the driveway…read more Joe outlined exactly what he was going to do and when he was going to do it. The old driveway was removed on Friday. On Monday the forms and rebar was installed. Then the cement truck arrived and the concrete was spread evenly 6 inches deep. The surface was smoothed out evenly. Then, Coca-Cola was sprayed over the surface which prevented the top layer of cement to harden. Later in the day, Joe returned and washed the top layer of concrete away exposing the aggregate. The finished product looked exactly as Joe said it would.

So, this summer, we decided to move forward with the plan to be "soakin' for the holidays" three months away. The only thing standing in the way of that dream: the slab and its neighbor had sunk a few extra degrees, roughly three inches, at the far edge. We were going to need to shore up and permanently stabilize this slab if our hopes of the (3-ton when filled) tub were going to materialize. I made a quick call to Terra Firma and they had an estimator out within a few days. The pricing was reasonable and had the standard 50% up front 50% when complete-type contract. Casey arrived spot-on at 8:00am yesterday morning and began doing his magic (the process involves boring 1/2" holes through the slab, then using high pressure and heat to inject a molten expanding foam under the slab.) The foam is rated to support about 5 tons (10,000 pounds) per pound of foam material, and....100 pounds later that whole slab is back to following the prescribed slope perfectly, raising almost three inches on the sunken side. He did a great job and was a great rep for the company, explaining what little was left to explain. He kept me up on the status of the (4-hour) job as he went along--because our slabs had previously cracked, he had to gently lift it up in small sections so as to not have the sections separate further. Perfect job. 24 hours later and the patched holes have dried to almost-invisible (see photos). Unless you know what you're looking for, you can't even really see that repairs were made. Now I just need to fill in the pre-existing cracks with concrete patching caulk and we're ready to schedule the hot tub delivery! Yippee! Thanks Terra Firma!
