The spirit is Kentucky Whiskey. Short Barrel offers high proof whiskeys, Rye, single barrels and some with those woodsy toasty vanilla notes. They have specialty releases as well like Bee's Knees and Sapsquatch. But they also calab with Old Forth Distillery. Bringing you the hand crafted vodka and the lemon ginger vodka. That makes the best lemon slushes. Now, today I came in to ask about the tour and tasting. I was told by a great guy that in order to tour and taste, you would have to reserve 24 hours in advance on their website. They don't have a set amount people for the tour or tasting. But, you can also buy a single can to try out if you're less daring (or should I say more daring -- haha) and want more variety. Though pricing for a single can is a mystery, it starts around $2.99 a can (I think). With its variety, you can try local beers to craft ones. Their shelves are labeled so you can choose whatever's your mood. There are sweet beers to IPA's to some with chocolate. I think that's why I like this spot: variety. At the front where the cash registers are, I believe there's a bar. I haven't experienced this side personally, but I did see people standing around sampling stuff.

The Assistant General Manager was working when we went and he was beyond helpful and did not steer any of us wrong in what to get based on our preferences. He's a great person to get drink advice from and is also super friendly and nice to talk to! There is also an entire beer store that the bar is attached to, where the selection is very expansive. Make sure to check the store and bar hours, though, as Krog Street Market and all the shops close early, especially during the week (9pm when we went).

Despite living in Midtown since 2000 and having come to Ansley Mall multiple times, I never noticed this shop until my fiancee recommended it when we were looking to buy some wine as a gift for some friends. Ansley Wine Merchants has been in business since 1986 so they must be doing something right. This place was packed to the gills with wine from all over the world. We were looking for a good cava (Spanish sparkling wine) or white wine and asked one of the staff members, Janie, for assistance. We gave her an approximate price point and she guided us to all of the store's caves and white wines. She was helpful, provided suggestions, and it didn't take us long to find what we were looking for. We ended up going with a bottle of Suavia Massifitti Trebbiano (750 mL for $26.99). We had it with dinner the next day with our friends and everyone liked it. I thought it was great. It's described as having scents of stone fruit and white flower. We got free gift wrapping. The guy at the checkout counter, Brandon, wrapped the bottle in a glossy silver wrap and tied the neck with a silver bow. It looked nice.

Luckily my boyfriend knows about bourbon and was able to select a bottle for our friend because we already know the staff would not be interested in helping. When we asked for a box (to carry four bottles), the employee questioned why but eventually gave us a box. Today he visited and there were four people working at the counter and not a single person said a word to him. This place knows there are not many options close by so they can continue not being friendly to customers and it won't affect their business.

Second bad experience here, I tried giving them a chance since they're so close but I'd rather drive to strong water now. NOT AN HONEST BUSINESS.

The Great Summation: Save your money. The wine making experience isn't worth the Groupon or private…read moreclass fees, particularly since the owner can be rude and dismissive. For about $99 you can buy the wine kit and necessary equipment online. I saw some of the same wine kits online at Wal-Mart. You can also invite friends and split the cost. The Breakdown: I first bought the $99 Groupon for the wine-making experience. I thought that the experience would include making the wine from scratch, including squashing the fruit. However, it's not. It's from a wine kit that includes the wine, the yeast, and any juice used to sweeten the wine. The Groupon includes 3 classes with wine made from a wine kit chosen by one of the owners, most likely Martha. There are 3 classes. In the first class, you empty the wine from the kit into a barrel and add yeast. In the second class, the owner switches The wine to another barrel. In the last class, you taste and bottle the wine. The Groupon includes the bottles. The wine was bitter at first, but after it sat at home for a couple of weeks, it was decent. I had fun because of the other couple there. Martha lead the class, but she wasn't very engaging, outside of a couple of jokes. If you decide to buy a private class after using the Groupon, then you'll get $75 off the cost to make the wine at their shop; it's like an administrative fee. While you get to choose the kit, which ranges from about $100-200 (mine was $212), it doesn't include bottling, which is $1/bottle if you buy it there. You'll need about 28 bottles. During the last private class session, Martha was downright rude. She kept leaving for a smoke break. She also kept rushing my friends and me, which was rude considering that we were her first class for the day. Rather than fully explaining things, she kept saying that I took the class, so I can explain it. It didn't make sense for her to be so rude and dismissive, especially since the wine kits can be bought online and made far cheaper than what her store offers.
