I would highly recommend anyone that is reading this to AVOID this company at all costs. I called this company for an urgent emergency - raw sewage was backing up into my tenant's basement unit (toilet gurgling, sewage coming up through the bathtub). Jeremy from Grayson Sewer and Drain came out to assess the situation. He evaluated the tenant's toilet and tub and ran a camera from the yard catch basin. He wasn't able to run his camera out into the city's line due to a blockage. Based on his assessment, he recommended a repair on the sewer line and installing a clean out. I quoted $3,900.00 for the work which I proceed with based on his professional recommendation as a licensed plumber. They did the digging and installed the clean-out. But when he tried to hydrojet the line afterward, the basement was STILL backed up. He claims that there's a "secondary blockage" underneath the concrete steps and immediately tried to upcharge me another $10,000.00 for additional repairs. This only includes the demo of the steps and not rebuilding it. I was suspicious of a bait-and-switch so I brought out a second independent plumber for a second opinion. The new plumber instantly proved that this company excavated and replaced the WRONG infrastructure. The pipe they spent days working on and charged me $3.9K for was actually a completely unrelated greywater/storm runoff line. The true sanitary sewer line handling the toilets and tubs runs a completely different route to the front doors and hadn't even been touched. I paid $3,900 for a guess that left a raw sewage biohazard active in my tenant's home. When I professionally approached the Jeremy about these massive diagnostic errors to ask for a refund, he completely refused to cooperate. I understand that he had completed some work (even though it's unrelated to the issue I had call him in for) so I only requested a partial refund of $1,900.00. However, he resorted to insulting my property, calling my building "run-down" and claiming it wasn't taken care of - completely deflecting from his own mechanical incompetence. I literally called him in to help with maintaining the property. In short, if you are a homeowner or a landlord dealing with an emergency, stay far away from this company. They do not do proper diagnostics, they will dig up the wrong lines, and they will try to trap you into a five-figure bill once they realize they've messed up. read more

I used Yelp to find a repair for what I thought was a leaky service line-- it turned out to be both that AND a leaking sewer line. FUN. Jeremy was the fastest response with the best price and timeline. He's a nice guy and texted/called a bunch to give me updates or ask questions if I wasn't in the house at the moment. He showed us the camera (my partner made him do it twice so I could see it because he thought it was 'cool'), offers financing, and responded quickly when I reached out with a question or something. Things to remember: most sewer/drain businesses don't fix your landscaping, so don't expect it (though he did put sod down on my neighbor's parkway since it wasn't mine). Most don't work weekends, so be clear on when you'll see them next and what time. Great experience overall and a nice guy to work with. read more

Jeremy charged us $1800 (advertised $750) for a routine sewer hydrojetting and never even came back to finish the job. Claimed the increase was necessary because our sewer had so many roots that it would take 2-4x longer to clean. His team completed the job in an hour but he still charged $1800 because "they used 400 gallons of water and 3 nozzles" (200 gallons were from our own hose and the nozzles are not disposable as far as I know). Despite paying the $1800, I have had an open hole in my front yard for over a week because he was not able to get the cleanout cap back on afterward and said he would need to cut the concrete and install another cap for an additional $600. Flaked on our appointments 4 different times and lied about the cost of materials. I ended up buying the cap I needed from Menards for $10 and screwing it in myself. I am so glad that I called Grayson Sewer and Drain! Last week I walked into our basement and found sewage overflowing from the toilet onto the floor. Grayson Sewer came out promptly and put a camera down and found roots growing into and blocking the line. Roots had also caused part of the pipe out by the street to fall out of alignment and they said that they would work with Chicago to get it remedied for us. They scheduled quickly to come back and dig up our basement floor to get out the section blocked with roots and install new pipe. The floor looks great and no more sewage back up! read more

I had a clogged pipe in my home that I couldn't seem to clear on my own, which prompted me to reach out to a plumber. I was a little surprised to get a response and service from Grayson as quickly as I did. I reached out to a group of plumbing companies VIA Yelp messaging, and they were one of the first to reach out to me with a price that was competitive when compared to others. After sending them a few more details, we chatted on the phone briefly. Afterwards, I was prompted to text them to confirm the time and address -- which I appreciated. I also appreciated the same day service. They cleared the drain in about 30 minutes, and took care to check that the blockage was completely cleared by running the faucet for a good 15-20 minutes before calling the job done. Grayson Sewer and Drain was professional and responsive to my request to have 4 sink and tub drains rodded. Owner Jeremy and his tech gave a window for service and called prior. They were quick and neat, which isn't easy with rodding drains. I could tell they knew what they were doing. They would have completed the job in under an hour but had to replace a plumbing piece that failed when they removed it--not their fault. Came out to do service on my home. They ran a snake through my opening for the toilet. Problem was never fixed. Left after supposedly making sure there would be no further issue. Called them back 6 days later because this was still an issue. They said they would be there the next day in the evening for an additional $150. Got a call then next day and was told they would be there the next next day at 8:30 or 9:00 am. They never showed up and never called. Also, they kept telling me it was a root problem and for $400+ more they could clear out everything. I was wondering why I paid them in the first place. Went with another service. They came out, looked at everything. Did video of the septic line. All for free with the estimate. They found the blockage, cleared the line and ran the line a second time. Stayed to verify that there were no issues. They ran the washer and turned on every faucet for 10 minutes to verify the issue was fixed. This service was guaranteed for 6 month and they will come back day or night if there is still an issue. There is nothing worse than paying for something twice when one company fails to do what they are supposed to do. I would highly NOT recommend this company. The only thing that was good was that they came down from the quoted price, to fit my budget. Estimate given before anything was looked at. But helping me with the price for doing literally nothing still was bad. I only paid $50 more for the other company. Use this company at your own risk. read more

After clearing the clog he walked me thru the inspection step by step, revealing a broken clay pipe. Gave me a very reasonable quote on the repair (got two others which were much higher).. My hot water heater rotted out and started leaking. I called Grayson and they came out and replaced it. Because of the funky layout of my condo building - I live in an old garment factory building - my hot water heater was situated over the kitchen - approx. 10 feet off the ground. It was by no means an easy job given the layout of my place and how the hot water heater was positioned. Nevertheless, these guys got the job done.
