Quick breakfast spots are harder to find in Lexington so for that reason 4 stars. This place also lets you know where they get their grains by including pictures of the farms and farmers on every table which is a great touch. The staff is kind fans the food is good. It's also an inclusive space which I personally love! If I'm in town, I'll be back. read more

We are traveling thru with our very large family and a dog and could not go in all together because of the dog. So we opted for sandwiches. My husband picked it up. We ordered online driving there and got there in 5 mins. It was fresh hot and already ready!!! My kids were ewwwing and awwwing! Those were worth every penny. Especially since they freshly grind the wheat and make it. This is not frozen and heated up. These were fantastic. FIVE STARS!!! read more

The food is fine, but 20% is added on whether you like it or not. It would be remiss of me to not mention that l haven't been there for a few months because of this. It's one step up from drive-through fast food. The food is good, but not great, and you do all the work; no table service. They bag your food up and shout your number. read more

Ordered the bacon jalapeño jam bagel and a plain bagel with cinnamon honey butter. The bacon Jalapeño jam bagel was good 8/10, and the plain bagel 7/10. Good bagels , but I found it a bit too chewy. The variety of cream cheese is lacking , I wasn't wowed by it like I was in NYC @liberty bagels 11/10. Maybe I just like variety but for me it definitely wasn't as good as New York bagels by far. I wouldn't be able to tell this bagel from a bagel from krogers . They tasted the same . read more

So first I'm from New York and love BAGELS; But I wanted a lox and bagel and man did they deliver. The ladies behind the counter were kind, fast and quickly got my order and recommended coffee. I ordered a NYC breakfast sandwich on an everything Bagel (the lady taking my order recommended a chive spread) and it took less than 4-6 minutes for my order to be ready. I sat down and enjoyed my time as well as the atmosphere in the place(was job searching while eating so wi-if helped) I would gladly come back and recommend anyone come thru. *side note they add in a Employee health and welfare fee which I 10000% agree with as people who cook food and deal with people deserve better wages. read more

Super cute place with a wide variety of bagels, toppings, and different flavors of cream cheese. First time ever trying a lox bagel, and Great Bagel made it something to remember. The NYC bagel was delicious! Perfectly done. On the other hand, their cold brew is not my favorite. It is very bitter with minimal of that "coffee-cold brew" taste. I haven't tried their other drink options, but I am looking forward to exploring more of the menu! read more

Still my favorite bagel spot ever! Had to stop in while visiting Lex from out of town. I am gluten sensitive, so I got a GF garlic bagel sandwich. Took me back to my college days. The gals at the counter were super helpful and patient as I contemplated what to order!!! I also got a French toast bagel for a camping trip the week after. Froze it and it tasted fresh when I ate it. Only wish they would open one up in denver!!! read more

Recently relocated from Hawaii to Lex and have been missing a lot of the Asian influenced food choices. Okay I try to support local but great bagel is so expensive that it makes me want to chose a chain. First of all the lady taking orders was very rude... I just shrugged it off because everyone has something going on. I get the bill and $2.50 for this tiny jello-shot of cream cheese that isn't filled all the way? I know supply chain shortages but seriously? I overheard the girl in front of me she got coffee, the American and cream cheese... $23 for a single person! I have a thing for bagels I like them all...or maybe I have a thing for cream cheese... either way, I love this place. It is easy to drop in at lunch and grab a bagel and smear. I go super simple and do a plain, everything or sesame with plain cream cheese. The bagel is warmed and there is a good smear to bread ratio! Give this a whirl if you haven't already! read more

We grabbed a quick, delicious lunch at Great Bagel and it was completely awesome! I ordered a chocolate chip bagel, toasted with peanut butter spread on it - delicious! I love bagels so much! And Great Bagel is awesome! They have so many bagels to choose from, and they're all delicious. I really like the Sesame, Poppy, and Maple Bourbon bagels. They also have plenty of cream cheese & spreads to choose from. Depending on which bagel I'm having I prefer the Plain or Maple Bourbon. They also offer breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as well as bagel plates. So, they have a few options other than just bagels if you're looking for something more. Plus they have lots of coffee and beverage options. It can get pretty packed, and I've had to wait in line before, but the service is always quick and friendly. Even with a long line it doesn't take too much time to get through. I like this spot for grabbing breakfast, but I think it's a great place to do that, or have lunch, or hangout with a friend, or even get some work done. I definitely recommend checking out this spot! read more

I went to the location closest to the UK campus because it was convenient for lunch. The employees were all kind and helpful. I got a club sandwich on a plain bagel. It was great! I was a little worried about the awkwardness of eating such a sandwich on a bagel and certainly made a bit of a mess (thank heavens for the decent-sized wrappings) but the sandwich was delicious. They have indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of both. read more

The bagels are heavenly. Truly, I would eat a healthy sprouts sandwich on an everything bagel every single day of the week. HOWEVER, the fact that a large cup of cold brew is $9.50 after tax feels criminal. The coffee is good but definitely not that good considering it's not even coming from a local Lexington roaster. Not to mention the fact that I was automatically charged a "health and wellness" fee for the employees. Shame on the owners for charging their customers to take care of their employees rather than doing it themselves. read more

I've always loved a good bagel sandwich, and great Bagel has never disappointed. I'm partial to the club sandwich on a berry bagel. It has everything you want in a club, and the berry adds a nice touch. Their breakfast sandwiches are also really good. Bagel sandwiches are a good change of pace from the typical sandwiches, and I'd highly recommend Great Bagel. Its proximity to University of Kentucky and downtown Lexington does make it a popular place, and bagels do run out, so it's wiser to go earlier in the day. read more

Great bagel used to be just that - really great. But now, as the other recent reviews have stated, bagels and drinks are almost $10 A PIECE. The last straw for me was this 5% employee health and wellness fee/tax. First off, the math ain't mathin. You think great bagel is really taking 5% of all pretax sales and redistributing that directly to their employees? Come on... 2 locations at an average bill of let's say $19 per bill (.95 cents per check X 100 sales a day, X 2 locations X 300 business days.) The above super polite and low estimate suggests that Great Bagel is redistributing a minimum of $57,000 directly to their employees 'health and wellness plan.' I'd love to hear what the employees have to say about that. A responsible employer would bake (no pun intended) that kind of fee/tax directly into their advertised costs, BUT my guess is costs are so high they are now unable to do that. In conclusion, this may be a poorly disguised tax shelter for the business OR a litmus test in socialism. Either way, I'm not interested in participating or supporting either of those options. read more

So busy! We came here for bagels! You can see the bagels right before you order as they are beautifully displayed by the line. There is a gluten free bagel option. They have so many breakfast options! They also have tea/coffee/hot chocolate/OJ/ and other beverages that is perfect for your morning wake up! There's plenty of seating for 2- so perfect for a breakfast date with your friend/boyfriend/significant other/family member. They also have salads if you forgot your lunch! I highly recommend the breakfast benedict with the everything bagel and the french toast bagel is delicious on its own! We will definitely be back for more bagels! read more

Love this place so much that I always come here when visiting. Not only is it great for being hungover but it's good for anytime of day and obviously breakfast. I've been getting the same thing since I was in school (I know I need to branch out) but it tastes just the same as I remembered it. A skinny on everything bagel. The scallions in it make it! This is the only bagel place in town (that I am aware of) to get a bagel with cream cheese and lox. The bagels are tasty and there is at least one special bagel and cream cheese. These are not the overly bready or fluffy like the chain stores. These have texture and a local feel. I usually get the hot brown breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel. I love the breakfast and bagel spin they have for the Kentucky hot brown. Today, I went just for the everything bagel with butter. The smell of the toasted garlic is intoxicating. Make sure you stop by and give this place a try. read more

Last Thursday was an atrocious weather day, raining for most of the time including the entire morning as we drove up to Lexington from Irvine. Since we'd never been over here, Josie's wasn't necessarily easy to spot apart from the other nearby businesses. It WAS very obviously in this larger strip mall situation (which doesn't seem like exactly the right term, but it's definitely in a building with a bunch of other stores), though we had to walk around almost the entire perimeter from our parking spot on Euclid to find it. Once we did, smooth sailing. Despite the fact that it was a weekday, Josie's was pretty busy when we walked in around 10ish. We WERE heading toward MDW, which could have been a factor, but this seems to be a pretty popular establishment regardless. It feels pretty new - this isn't like an old school greasy spoon diner type of situation - with some interesting artwork on the walls, and booths, regular tables and counter stools potentially available. Our colleague was already there and had secured a booth towards the back closer to the bathrooms, which allowed for some fun viewpoints of most of the restaurant. We were already a few days into our debauchery of a road trip, so I kept it pretty well-behaved - I opted for waffles with strawberries. That's it. The food came very quickly, as did the requested coffee, which might have ultimately been more important than the aforementioned waffles in the grand scheme of things. I honestly don't have a lot to say about them other than that they were perfectly fine waffles. The strawberries were fresh, the waffles themselves were cooked through but not too crispy, and that was that. I think it's a little hard to mess up something this basic, and thankfully all was well. The service was excellent throughout and even though I didn't foot any part of the bill (a thank you to our Kentucky colleague), the prices seemed very reasonable to me - though I also have a completely distorted perspective given that most of my consumerism takes place in the NYC area. No issues here; didn't see a ton of reasons to wander back into Lexington unless somehow Coach Cal comes back to coach the Cats and I miraculously score tickets to something at Rupp, but this was a nice little spot.

We went with our waitress's recommendation and ordered the Brekkie Bowl with home fries, turkey sausage, and a sunny-side-up egg, it was very tasty. Everything was hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The flavors all came together so well, especially with that runny egg mixed in. We also got the Go Getta biscuit and gravy meal, which was hearty, comforting, and exactly what you want from a brunch spot. You can tell the food is made to order. It was somewhat average on the taste, but it satisfied our hunger. The restaurant itself was clean and nearly empty when we arrived, which made for a quick experience. Our food came out quickly, the staff was friendly and attentive, and we were in and out within 30 minutes, perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

Beyond the delicious food, what really makes this place special is the meaning and mission behind it. I could be wrong. I liked my donut although it was a little messy to eat . My friend on the other hand didn't care for the cronut. The coffee though is always on point and it didn't disappoint. As for customer service they really are on point. I've been there a total of three times so far and every time they've been friendly and patient. Plenty of seating indoors and on the patio. I think after 1 pm they do donuts made to order (I didn't see the sign when we first walked in until after we placed our order). I just thought they sold out but the woman at the counter told me they do made to order.

The kind where you fully intend to order one... and somehow walk out with two. Or three. The layers are perfectly flaky, the flavors works well well together, and every bite feels like it was engineered to make you say "okay, just one more." Fair warning to anyone with even a shred of restraint: you will lose it the moment you take your first bite.

We had two other family members join us after we ordered and our server got an extra chair for our table to accommodate a total of 5 of us. It worked out perfectly.
