The Davis High Band held our 34th Annual Coconut Grove fundraiser on 4/25/26 at Great Bear Winery and it was AMAZING! The venue is gorgeous, the staff was incredible and we plan to hold our event again next year. Thanks Great Bear Winery! A++

Looking for a local winery in Davis...found it! Great Bear was totally amazing. We made reservations online; however, our day was running a bit behind and they were happy to accommodate a last minute change in reservation time. Driving up the vineyard was beautiful. It honestly did not feel like we were in Davis, but maybe Santa Barbara, as we were welcomed by the beautiful Spanish style residence. The outdoor patio is very spacious and relaxing. Our tasting was in the dance hall. It was a bit cramped between tables but we were fine. I just felt bad with the hostesses having to maneuver and squeeze in between guests. Let's get to the wine. The $20 tasting includes 5 tastings - 2 whites, 1 rose and 2 reds. All were simple delicious. The Sauvignon Blanc, 2024, was light and crisp with hints of mango, peach and apricot. Perfectly refreshing on a summer day. Not much of a rose fan, but the Fiore Rouge 2024, didn't seem like a typical rose..the grapefruit and raspberry was very appealing to the pallet. Let's get to my favs...reds! Yummy!!!! Duet 2021! Yes, very smooth with the fruitful flavors that just melt in your mouth. The tasting ended with a bang..the Cab Ashworth Reserve 2019! Oh my! It starts with the smooth fruitful texture but ends with a hint of spiciness from the tannins..not too much spice but enough to give it that perfect ending! Of course we did not leave empty handed and had to take advantage of their special! Leaving with the Duet and the Ashworth....unfortunately they did not have the Tempranillo open so we JUST HAD TO buy a bottle!! Thank you Great Bear for a wonderful experience! Oh and our hostess, Monica, is top notch! She shared with us the history and background of Great Bear. She is very knowledgeable of all their wines and just provided us with wonderful customer service! Thank you Monica!

I've been to several large events here, really like the ambience and wine. I chose it for my big bday bash, ~80 people. Their coordinator, Kelsey, is extremely nice and great to work with. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend for your next event.

A family member suggested that we try this vineyard and so glad we did. It was super last minute that we got a family of 10 to stop by on a beautiful Saturday early afternoon without reservations . When we arrived there were only two other tables taken but shortly after the place was completely filled. Super friendly staff. Thank you Sharon & I didn't get the other staff members name. Both were Very knowledgeable and friendly. If there's no food trucks on the day you visit, you can bring your own snacks. We brought our own snacks. I had the 5 tastings for $20. My favorite was the Dulce Vita. We purchased the bundle of Red Blend Duet & Dolce Vita Regular Price: $86-SAVE $36- Special Price $5o We'll definitely be back. Today's Pourings on 2/22/25 1. Chardonnay 2023 Aromas of toasted brioche, apricot, nuts, and honey jump from the glass, and flavors of pineapple, orange, peach, and almond 2. Rosé Fleur Rouge 2023 The Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon, Fleur Rouge boasts notes of citrus, raspberry, and red candies 3. Duet Red Blend '21 70% Cabernet Sauvignon & 30% Zinfandel, this red blend has notes of mixed fruits like ripe blackberries, cherries, raspberries, strawberries as well as hints of vanilla 4. Cabernet Sauvignon Dolce Vita '19 Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of pomegranate, blackberry, vanilla, and caramel 5. Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6 '20 complex single-block, single-clone wine Cabernet Sauvignon with notes of baking spice, stewed blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, black pepper, olive tapenade, and dried herbs

Can't recommend enough. Love this family owned vineyard! The place is beautiful. Their award winning wine is amazing. And staff is knowledgeable, friendly and so welcoming. For every pour, we not only get to learn about the wine but also the stories behind them. The wine tasting experience is professional yet it feels like a fun gathering at a friend's house. During this visit, we went for the standard tasting menu. It's $20 for 5 pours and it's honestly a steal!! (And even cheaper if you are a wine club member) We have: White Blend: it's rich yet refreshing Rose Fleur Rouge: the color is beautiful and it smells of strawberries I love it Red Blend, the Duet: balanced and delicious Petite Sirah: they are phasing out this one so get it when you still can Cabernet Sauvignon, Grand Reserve: so rich and deep with dark fruit flavors. I feel so sophisticated drinking this~ We ended up buying 4 of them. Only bought four cuz I'm coming back for the Cab when it gets colder and it would be a perfect drink when it's raining outside~ We also joined the wine club because I can definitely see myself revisiting very frequently. There are lots of perks and no membership fee. I'm so excited for future adventures!

Had such a wonderful time at the Great Bear Vineyards! It's a beautiful walk up to the wine tasting area with the birds singing and flying around. Be sure to visit on a nice day for a great view and seating outside in the sunshine! This is a gorgeous spot for relaxing as you sip on some wine. The staff is all friendly and the owner is full of charming stories and gave great wine tasting tips. I'd definitely come back for any upcoming celebrations or even just a casual afternoon!

Ended up coming back here because our daughter wanted to get one of her favourite wine from here. She's not from here. She lives down south in LA so anytime she comes into town before she leaves town. She always comes here to pick up wine to take back home. Today she asked me to jump out of the car and go with her to take a look at their tasting room, which was a barn, which I've never been to. We walked in and it was so rustic looking and warm. they had decorated with their dry lavender that they grow on the property and they had decorated it for Valentine's Day. As you walk in there is a gift nook to your right and you'll find a wine menu is right at the register. if you do a tasting there, normally you have to make reservations for it, but if you're just buying wine, you can just go and buy it. They have a deal if you buy two or more, they give you $10 off on each bottle and if you're a wine member you'll get an addition 15% off your bill. To be a wine member club it is free you just have to buy three bottles on your initial visit then you have to agree to buy three bottles every quarter which is February May, August and November. They'd like to do events where they do wine, tastings, and charcuterie boards tasting for two people but you definitely have to make reservations for those events. We also found out that they have an Airbnb on site which is a cute little single-story cottage on the property which they kept from the original from 1867. If you book your stay here, you get a free bottle of wine and a free wine tasting in the tasting room.

This is a long, overdue review of a great vineyard that definitely deserves the praise. Prior to our visit here, we honestly were not aware that there was any wineries at all in Davis. We came during the summer, so it was definitely sweltering hot outside. We were concerned about sitting outdoors, but it turns out they also have a covered barn area that has water misters to keep us all cool and shaded. They even had a live pianist who did a great job with upbeat music that definitely kept us engaged. Everyone we encountered here were incredibly sweet and friendly, and we got to learn so much about not only the wine we were drinking, but about wine in general. During our tasting, one of the owners, Marcus, came around to our table to both introduce himself and provide a brief history of the property and how they came to grow this vineyard. We enjoyed our tasting so much that we brought back 3 different bottles to both try at home, as well as to share with our family. During our tasting, we opted to also get a tour of the lavender fields where we got to learn so much more about the property, the apple orchards, and care and growth of the lavenders. At the end, we even got to pick our own lavenders to take home which was a really nice touch! Parking is available in their private, dirt driveway off to the side. And is a bit of a walk onto the vineyard proper.

Wine is such a subjective item. This winery certainly has the awards to prove it is a quality product but it isn't my favorite. I like big bold flavors and tannic reds and these are soft and jammy. And I found the prices to be quite high. That said the grounds are beautiful and service friendly and knowledgeable and it is so close to Davis it makes it hard to not visit.

Can't believe this charming vineyard is so close to Sacramento yet it gives you Napa vibes without having to drive too far. Gorgeous location and the wine was so delicious. Sauvignon Blanc was refreshing, Malbec, Duet and their Cab were all really good. On a Saturday afternoon, the weather was perfect. We didn't know you can bring your own food to pair with the wines. So their cheese platter was the only option for purchase as far as food goes. Some of the cheese in the platter was not fresh so it was hard and dry and couldn't be eaten. The rest of our experience was wonderful. Ruben our server was knowledgeable, he was a good host. Will Come back more prepared next time with our own Picnic basket. This would be a great place to host private events or a wedding. It has a Very romantic feel.

We've visited once before a year ago and now today. They created a new seating area that is lovely. I also want to mention how friendly and kind the owner is. Didn't catch his name but it's so nice to have a quick conversation with him, to learn about the place his wife and him have been and the places they've visited. :) Today Ruben helped us and he was GREAT!! We had a tasting and decided to leave with a bottle. It was great to be able to bring our own snacks and sit in a shady table and enjoy the beauty this place has to offer. Thanks again Great Bear. Stumbled across their ad on Instagram and gathered the girls to go wine tasting. The ambiance was calm quiet and perfect for socialising. Great mood lighting and the host guided us through five tasting with great descriptions and background. Loved visiting Great Bear Vineyards for an event they had with live jazz music. Beautiful ambience and music and the wine was delicious. Very great service, Marcus helped us choose the best wine and explained its origins as well as what it paired best with. He was very kind and even checked in with us after to see if we enjoyed it. I will be coming again for wine tasting or future events. It's very affordable and I recommend to anyone who enjoys a good glass of wine with a nice view. read more

While in Davis, I walked to Great Bear Vineyards as I read online they were open for pickup during the quarantine. I picked up three bottles of rosé and three bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is absolutely delicious, and I can not wait to return for more. Walking to pick up the wine at the vineyard was a lovely experience as well, as I saw freshly-blossomed flowers, wild turkeys, rabbits jumping around and all of the wine grapes lining the driveway. Highly-recommend going to Great Bear during this time of uncertainty in the state. read more

The owners are such gems, sweet kind people. I came here for a tasting and was thrilled at what came with my tasting. Not only were they very knowledgeable, but everyone we interacted with was so kind. I enjoyed the tour around the place and also meeting the pig. The lavender cuts was a cute little touch. I like Great Bear Winery, BUT it would be nice to be able to do tasting in the winery itself instead of always outside and if wine tasting was free for wine club members we would sign up, but I can't swallow the fact that you have to pay every time you go. read more

So, wine was lovely, reminded me for New York wine, and location is beautiful yet...... charging $10.00 for a person not drinking is outrageous! My hubby never drinks wine/beer/spirits/etc.. We had to ask multiple times for the server to bring his soda, which he is not fond of. So, why the $10.00 fee to sit with someone as they do a wine tasting? If Great Bear is going to charge $20.00 at least offer bubble juice or nice nonalcoholic drinks not juice boxes or cola products. read more

I came here for a tasting and was so impressed, I walked away with three bottles of wine (and regret not getting more!). The Malbec is light and delicious. I really REALLY enjoyed their Roussanne, which has the perfect amount of sweetness for a hot summer day. And the Sparkling Brut Rosé was also very refreshing. I can't wait to go back and try their Zinfandel and Rosé of Tempranillo! read more

We hosted our conference banquet at Great Bear and it was absolutely the best venue we could've asked for. It was absolutely stunning, the wine was amazing and reasonably priced, and the staff was really accommodating and made the event a breeze. The banquet was in the Palm Garden (beautiful) where there was plenty of space for eating and mingling and lots of shade! I really recommend hosting events at Great Bear, and I look forward to coming back as a guest to try the individual wine tasting too! read more

I love this vineyard! It's so laid back and fun. I purchased tickets for a bbq , where you get a glass of wine and a big delicious box of food from a bbq food truck. It's a great deal and I would go back again. The wine club is also great. Visit this little place and you won't regret it. read more

We absolutely enjoyed our time at this winery. The view was gorgeous, the ambiance was amazing, and the staff were outstanding. We celebrated my gfs birthday party here and she couldn't have had a better time. Marcus; winery owner, was charming enough to come by and share couple chats with us and make our day even more special. This is definitely our new favorite place and we will most certainly return here any day. We are even considering joining their wine club since their wines tastes amazing as well! Not to mention, they let you keep their wine glasses at the end of the tasting event! read more

Though our first visit to Great Bear Vineyards was prior to COVID hitting, it has become our go-to date spot over the past year. The wines are excellent, staff is friendly, owners are great people, and their picnic setup is perfect for a safe afternoon/evening out. My mom and I had a blast on this sunny day in February. $25 to taste delicious wine and bring your own picnic. Great views of the vineyard, lavender, and olive trees. Well, well, well. Truly breathtaking. Great Bear Vineyards ("GBV" as it has become known) is ,without doubt, the number one activity to do in Davis. We sat outside on an beautiful Sunday afternoon by the stunning remodelled barns and enjoyed a remarkable selection of their wines. I've always enjoyed European varieties myself as I'm from the UK originally but GBV's offerings are really superb. The tranquil setting is the perfect spot for a family picnic or a catch up with friends. Already planning our next visit to GBV to sample the next harvest 10/10 read more

We flew into Sacramento instead of Oakland, on our way to the wine country and thought we would search out a couple of wineries in Davis before heading to Napa. Let me preface this review by saying that we have been coming to the wine country for the last 15 years and search for the little mom-and-pop wineries that are under the radar and are making great juice. We hit the jackpot with Great Bear. This Winery is new to the scene but well on their way to becoming a player in California wines. Jenny, one half of the owners, sat at the table with us as we tasted her wines and let me tell you, they are knocking it out of the park. By the end of the tasting we were writing checks and figuring out how quickly we could get our wine to delivered to us. Get into this Winery ASAP, you won't be sorry, and you can say you knew them when they were just getting started! read more

My girlfriend and I spent a Friday afternoon with Marcus and Jenny at their winery,the ambience was so pleasant as they had a pianist playing. They took rhe time to chat with us and all the other customers, which made for an unique experience. Highly recommend paying them a visit, and i would hurry before that place gets tok busy as i know it will very soon! read more

I never knew this place was here until my friend had a wine party today. I fell in love as soon as we turned into the driveway. It was an experience! Great Bear Vineyards is a small gem on the outskirts of Davis, CA. All of their wines are made right on the estate from harvest to the bottle! My friends and I came for a wine tasting where we tried their Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Graduate Cabernet Sauvignon. Out of the three the Cab was definitely my favorite and the owners Jenny and Marcus even sat down with us to tell the history of their vineyard and how their wines are made!! I'll definitely be coming back to book another wine tasting when I'm back in Davis! read more

My wife went to Great Bear as part of a group for wine tasting. She had a wonderful time and was going to purchase a few bottles of wine, but instead joined the wine club instead. (score for me) On our first pick wine pick up, we went to the pizza party. Plenty of food, great pizza, and fruit from their garden. We got a chance to meet the owners, such wonderful people. They have a large selection of reds and plenty of whites. I would highly recommend Great Bear and look forward to the 4th quarter wine selection read more

My friend and I found this beautiful gem on AirBnb while looking for a place to stay in Davis. We loved it! We stayed in their little farm house and had a very lovely welcoming with a bottle of wine. I recently attended Great Bear Vineyards' first socially-distant event since the lockdown was lifted. I took my parents there as an early Father's day gift and it did not disappoint. The wine was incredible, the space stunning, and the Meadows-Smith family working it were incredibly attentive. I found it especially heartfelt that the entire family was working together, kids and all, in order to produce a successful event. Could not have asked for a better Father's day event! We attended the Valentine's Day wine tasting hosted by winemakers Jenny & Marcus. The beautiful setting surrounded by vineyards made it feel like we were in wine country, when if in fact, it was a five minute drive from our home! My favorites were the Cabs. I'm planning to join the wine club and enjoy the wine tasting/wine pick up gatherings which are hosted on the patio when the whether is nice. Jenny said the sunsets from the patio are breathtaking......can't wait. read more

Now every time I come visit family in the area, we go for a tasting or event at Great Bear. The wines are affordable and delicious and they really have perfected the scenery and property. We went to a most glorious special event at Great Bear Vineyards last night. It was a collaboration between Great Bear, @DavisEats (Deema Tamimi) & Chef Chris Wong. This place is magical. We had appetizers and wine out back with views of lavender fields and vineyards with the Vaca Hills in the distance. Large umbrellas gave shade. We chatted and hung out while being served delectable food and then sat for dinner in the courtyard. Wow! Dreamy. The place is fantastic and the wine is yummy - I especially loved the Port. Will go back to buy more. read more

After anxiously awaiting the opening of this vineyard for some time my first visit was everything I hoped for and more (as were my second and third visits!!). The grounds and home are more impressive than I could have ever imagined. The owners/winemaker are truly the most genuine, passionate, and friendly people, all eager to share their exquisite wine with the community and truly enjoy the experience with their patrons. The wine itself is incredible, thoughtfully and lovingly cultivated and created, and simply delicious! My husband and I visited for the first time and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed all of the wines that we tasted but were particularly impressed with their Cabernet Sauvignon Rose. Great wines at great prices. Their wine maker has crafted some amazing wines that are full of flavor and complex enough to keep you tasting. I often taste in Napa and would put their wines in the same of quality. But what makes them great is that while they have the Napa quality they don't have the Napa price tag. We celebrated my birthday here this past Saturday with a private tasting for myself and a group of friends. It was a perfect day! I have never been to a winery where I liked everything I tasted until now. Every wine was delicious!! Marcus and Jenny were amazing and gave us the history on the land, explained to us about the different grapes and wine making process and shared stories about their family. This boutique winery is absolutely breathtaking! It has a grand feel while still maintaining a small-business charm. On the day my partner and I went for a tasting, there was a fantastic jazz band and casual swing dancing in the tasting barn. We had lots of fun dancing and the wines were delicious! We attended a picnic lunch recently. You brought your own food & bought a bottle of wine. They had a guy playing piano & he was great. I had the Roussanne, which was very nice. Just enjoyed a lovely July 4th picnic at Great Bear sitting out amongst the lavender fields and listening to live music from nearby piano. Jenny and Marcus have opened their property to the community with proceeds from some of their lavender going towards local charities. My expectations were low, but Nashoba definitely impressed me. Even bought a couple of bottles to bring home. If you got the time, and feel like doing a tasting away from the normal wine regions, I strongly recommend Nashoba Wines.

[Fun fact: mead wine has less alcohol content than grape wine.] Instead I ordered lunch and washed it down with their honey ice tea. The iced tea had a prominent honey taste. Hubs luved his, but my tastebuds were confused. Odd though because I luv honey and iced tea. We also ordered a Ruben sandwich $22 and an order of waffles. The sandwich was classic with the familiar flavors. Nice quality cut of meat, thinly shaved. The waffles $17 were topped with blueberries, slivered almonds, and orange blossom whipped ricotta cream which I asked for on the side. The ricotta cream was divine. The waffles tasted pretty darn good. However the pricing for both entrees seemed high for the serving size. But this is a type of place where folks can eat and linger to enjoy the grounds, atmosphere, and each other's company without anyone rushing you out. We enjoyed our meal out in the back outdoor patio. The landscaping is all organic with lots of pollinating and drought resistant plants and trees. The building is a zero energy building with an onsite brewing facility. The interior has a brand newish look and feel. There is a honey tasting and mead wine tasting counter, gift shop, and dining area. All of this is in an open floor plan. The indoor seating capacity is limited. This review is long overdue. A few months ago, my husband and I stumbled across Great Bear Vineyards when driving home to San Francisco from Tahoe. What a great find!! The winery was closed when we arrived, but Jenny (she and her husband are the owners) welcomed us although she was working. The property itself is breathtaking. It reminds me of a Spanish villa. Once you enter the iron gates, there is a covered veranda and water fountain. They have several indoor and outdoor private or semi-private tasting areas and an open grassy knoll. Jenny gave me and my husband a private tasting on the veranda. We tasted 5 or 6 wines, talked and laughed about our life, kids and experiences for about 2 hours. The wines were great. The company was glorious. We bought a number of bottles and joined the wine club! Today, we returned to Great Bear to pick up our wines and we were greeted by Marcus. We were in the area early and they let us come pick up the wines prior to opening. Love it! Marcus gave us a tour of the vineyards, taught us a little about the different types of grapes used for making their various wines (and let us taste them!) and when they would be harvested. I love the peaceful feeling of this place and its proprietors. Great Bear is a great place to relax, sip some wine and take in the scenery! You must try it! read more

This was the best wine tasting I have ever attended! We arrived early, but were immediately greeted and given a tour of the vineyard. Jenny and Marcus were so kind, and answered all of our questions related to wine and wine-making. The vineyard itself has a beautiful layout, and is surrounded by both grape vines and olive trees. Although the weather was cool, there is ample shade and seating for the hotter months. The wines themselves were delicious. Both white and reds were offered, and each had its own distinct flavor and character. You can tell a lot of heart went into the makeup of the wine, as well as the design of the bottles themselves. During the tasting we were also offered a lovely tray of cheeses, crackers, berries, and olive oil. Their olive oil is fantastic, and before I left I ordered a bottle. This is a great place to bring a group of friends and family to spend a relaxing afternoon. I will definitely be returning with my friends who need to expand their local wine collection. (P.s. My husband and I had the most amazing lunchtime treat with Jenny and Marcus in their beautiful vineyard. We tasted a few bottles of their "Great Bear" collection which included a Chardonnay that tasted like a Chablis and Cabernet Sauvignon that was superb and smooth. Their professional skills as Chemists and Biologists alongside their personalities have brought this production to world class quality. It's not surprising that they have achieved a gold standard award for their wine Don't miss out on the olive oil and limoncello either !
