Trivia Time: What brewery, largely considered the oldest in the world, began brewing in 1040? For an extra dose of bonus, what brewery started just ten days later? (I was happy to find they had a couple from the oldest, which also happens to brew my favorite beer of all time!) If I could give six stars, I would. This is the type of place I want in the town where I live. Sort of dusty and divey, sort of eclectic and weird, but all sorts of awesome. The outdoor seating is a little ramshackle. The staff seems a little overwhelmed, but friendly. But the core of this place, the thing that should be excellent? Well that is the beer, and it is so awesome. Come for a drink and popcorn, leave with a new glass and a few awesome beers. Find a beer not on tap or in the cooler? Ask them to chill it for you. Grab a draft and wait. Have some time to kill? Open up your Untappd account and look at the stars and reviews of their beers. You'll certainly find some great ones. Since there were so many beers to choose from, I chose to ask them to chill a bottled beer I wanted to try and then I did a sampler flight. It allowed me to try a whole bunch of beers I had never had! Service was friendly and professional. Answered all my questions and even brought out my chilled beer when I wrapped up my flight. Cheers!

Not a pub. Sells only beer on tap to enjoy on the premise or in bottles to take home. American and Euro centric with many fewer choices from other parts of the world. Cozy, cool place from the heat to enjoy a pint.

This is my favorite beer place now! Very friendly service and knowledgeable staff. They have over 20 beers on tap that change often and a large selection of rare bottles and cans. They post the current tap list on their Facebook page. You can buy a flight of five, half pour, or pints. If you bought a bottle from the shop, you can sit down and drink it there and they will provide the appropriate glassware. They also let you bring food from outside. The ambiance is very neighborly and laid-back, and they have a beer garden out in the front.

This joint is funky and is not really a bar per se (though the tap list is top rate). It's kind of a gathering spot for beer needs and sort of the D and D crowd. I don't play D and D and I am not sure if I am a beer nerd but somehow I dig this place. I usually have a beer or two and learn a little about a new beer while I am there. I like it quite a bit.

One of the best beer shops in Davis~ Love how its both a bar and provide bottle selections in the back. They can range anywhere from $5-$40. Beers on draft is super affordable, from $6-$10 (16 oz, some are 10 oz) and change weekly. Seating is limited, so we had to stand and drink. I got the blood orange cider ($6) and the pizza port ($6). I liked how the blood orange cider was not too sweet, with the right amount of orange flavor. The pizza port was red ale, I liked the sour after taste, it was something I've never had before. I also had a sip of my friend's banana bread ale, it was surprisingly tasty, with a hint of banana flavor. Overall, atmosphere is good and staff is friendly. Highly recommend for those beer connoisers. :) Will definatly want to by bottled beer selections the next time I visit.

Esoteric craft beers on the shelves for reflective drinking at home.

There is just something nice about a cold local beer served in a sturdy glass from a list of rotating taps. Especially if you are also surrounded by shelves of interesting beer from near and far in a stunning range of styles and craft brew combinations. And where else in Davis can you buy a Munich Oktoberfest themed glass boot for holding 1L of your favorite seasonal fall selection? Neither a bar nor a brewpub nor a beer garden, this is an authentic bottle shop, with a front room added on for sampling beer by the glass (25+ choices on offer each day), amidst a wealth of beer themed artwork and other collectibles. Sort of like a museum, with a sense of history emanating from the walls, but also very future oriented in terms of the innovative craft beers on tap. Hazy IPAs are particularly good choices from local breweries like Berryessa Brewing Company in Winters and New Glory Craft Brewery in Sacramento, along with those made by Fieldwork Brewing Company in Berkeley. You will also find some higher end aged stouts and porters on the shelves along with wild fermented ales (e.g. Libertine Brewing Company) aged in a variety of interesting ways, part of the wine/beer/mead/cider mashup that is slowly effecting a craft brew revolution in the US and beyond. Think of this place as an extension of the UC Davis campus with a focus on the fermentation arts side of things. Alcoholic indulgences do not get more intellectual than this. Stop in for a pint and bottle or 6 pack to go on your next Davis visit!

Awesome place! Recently turned 21 and have been getting into drinking beer. Although I like beer, im still very new to it and like much of the lighter beers. Some of the ones I tried and like were "Break side lunch break. North coast scrimshaw, Kern river paddle left, and Happy Palm track 7" They have about 23 beers on draft! And they change everyday! They also have 6 packs beers to buy and cute beer glasses, which I bought. Also a plus to this place is, you can try the beers, and then pick what you'd like!

The blue corn tortilla on the Aggie taco was a nice touch since it's one of UC Davis' school colors. The service was great; everyone was friendly and I liked that they cleared away our empty plates often. I also love that they have a complimentary chips and salsa bar. This was my first time participating in an exhibition at this gallery, as I had been considering becoming a member. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Two weeks after the exhibition opened, I discovered that my artwork had been incorrectly labeled. Although I had clearly stated in my submission form that my work is "mixed media," it was presented as "watercolor." This is not a minor mistake--anyone with even basic knowledge of art can easily recognize that my work is not watercolor. Mislabeling directly affects how viewers perceive the artwork and can influence voting and audience feedback. I contacted the gallery by email to request a correction, but received no response. After repeated follow-ups over three consecutive days, I finally received a reply on the fourth day confirming that the label had been corrected. Such delays and lack of accountability are not acceptable in a professional environment. Throughout this experience, I felt that there was insufficient attention to professional conduct and respect for artists--especially emerging ones. I also sensed a difference in the way I was treated compared to others, which made me feel overlooked and unwelcome. In addition, when I inquired about the possibility of offering smaller works suitable for sale in the gift shop, my request was immediately dismissed without any review of my work. Only after I insisted did I send examples of my pieces, which I believe deserved proper consideration, yet my request was still not evaluated fairly. Due to this overall experience, I ultimately decided to withdraw my artwork from the exhibition. I did not want my work to continue being misrepresented or treated without proper respect. To make matters worse, the refund process for the $40 exhibition fee was handled carelessly. The gallery issued the check incorrectly three times, each time misspelling my last name. In the end, I had to write my name on a piece of paper to ensure the check was finally issued correctly. I also witnessed another artist whose ceramic work, valued at $1,000, was damaged while in the gallery's care. She was understandably upset, and this raised further concerns about how artworks are handled and stored. Overall, this gallery falls far short of the professional standards expected from an art institution. There appears to be unfair treatment of artists, with decisions seemingly influenced by personal relationships and favoritism, which is also quite evident on their social media presence. I sincerely hope that in the future this gallery improves in terms of communication, professionalism, fairness, and respect toward artists.

Because of that, even though I've lived nearby for more than 20 years, I never made it out to a show. I finally made an exception to see the legendary Herbie Hancock at Jackson Hall, the larger venue that seats about 1,800 people. Even from the upper section, the sound was phenomenal. The acoustics are honestly some of the best I've experienced. The one downside to sitting up there is the seating layout: the rows are tight, and unlike other sections, there are no aisles. If someone in the middle needs to step out, the entire row--around 20 people on each side--has to shuffle to make room. Not ideal, especially for long shows without an intermission. Parking is close, but even on a Sunday (when parking is usually free), the lot across from the venue charged $19. Drinks are allowed inside only if they have lids, and there are no cupholders at the seats. Minor things, but they add up. Jackson Hall is a beautiful venue, and it definitely carries a "posh" or "elite" reputation that seems fairly accurate--it feels geared toward a more academic crowd. I probably won't return soon based on the current lineup, but seeing Herbie Hancock there was absolutely worth it.
