By the time when I'm done shopping I got texts that they are ready! I had my worst haircut experience by far today, and probably will not be back at this location again unless something is done about this. This experience was with the middle aged Philippino man that reeks like cigarettes - you guys know which one. After waiting 30+ minutes after checking in (being assured it was a 15 minute wait) this guy walks in and I'm the lucky next customer. He sits me down in a dirty seat and doesn't bother to clean up any hair or combs, and I probably should have just left right here. He says "what do you want" and I say "what you have on file" and he looks at the computer across the room, doesn't check my file, and says "so what do you want" so I tell him, and he cuts me off while I'm telling him, and says "ah it's fine I'll figure it out I think I have an idea" and immediately starts cutting. He of course cuts the the wrong length, and was extremely rough. I'm am currently bleeding in a few places on my head because he never used a guard, only the clipper and a comb. After man-handling my head and consistently telling him to calm down he rolls his eyes and takes the cape off and says my haircut is complete without asking me if it was even cut correctly (which it wasn't). I said I needed the top of my hair cut as well, not just the sides. He rolls his eyes again and grabs the clippers and a comb. At this point I thought he was kidding until he took a chunk out of my hair and I pulled away and said SCISSORS would be nice like a normal barber would use. He of course rolls his eyes, gets the blending shears and just starts chopping, never asked how much off the top. He of course cuts off way too much and completely uneven and at that point I just had to stop. I paid the (now increased) price of admission, and absolutely no tip. My head is throbbing, my hair looks awful, I'm bleeding, and smell like cigarettes. I told my family and a few of them have had similar experiences with the same person and have all vowed to never come back. I'm willing to come back because it's close to my home, but if I see him there, I'm leaving. Hope someone actually sees this, he does not deserve to touch another head until he learns how to cut hair and deal with people. And quit smoking right before being next to stranger's faces for a living. Absolutely awful experience. read more

I wish I had read Elijah's review before I went to this location. This is the location I usually go to. I think I got the same person Elijah described in his review. I registered on line. When I arrived a man was smoking outside in front of the store. Turned out he was my hair cutter. No one was waiting so I was directed to the smoking man's station. I started to tell him what I wanted. He cut me off and told me how he thought my hair should be cut. It sounded like what I wanted anyway. I too was cut because he dug the clipper into my skin. I told him he was hurting me and he started paying more attention to what he was doing. He suddenly took off the cape over me and said I was done. Never asked me if I approved of the haircut. I didn't like the haircut but I just wanted to get away from this cigarette smelling, rude excuse for a barber. He then asked me if I was going to leave a tip. I didn't answer and we both walked over to the cash register. I told him I would pay with credit card and he again asked for a tip. I overcame my rising anger and tipped him anyway. I looked at my receipt and saw he charged me for a for a full price haircut. I am 80 years old. He should have known to charge me the senior price. When I pointed this out he said, "Okay I get you next time." Stupid answer. I go to this location for convenience but I will find a new haircut place that is not Great Clips. The worst haircut. I had Arlette trim my hair - I asked for 1/4 of an inch off (just to freshen up the ends) and she took about 2 inches off and it is crooked!!!! One side is longer than the other. I shouldn't have paid or tipped her. I will never be coming back. read more

The lady (first chair on left, I never got her name) is the best at haircuts for little boys. She knows what to ask, how to interact with the children, and perfects the haircut. Probably for the best, but we were skipped in line since the other guy didn't do kids that young, at least he was honest, and luckily the lady was available just minutes after. read more

I do not trust the Asian guy at ALL! I refuse to go to this location because of him. He only knows one style of haircut and will not do anything that you ask for.. his only excuse '' you need hair products for that hairstyle''... yeah ok I don't mind buying hair products. It's a hair stylist's job to give the person the haircut they want.. not only does he give crappy haircuts, but he also smells HORRENDOUS of nicotine and I get horrible headaches while around him and then when I'm done, I smell of nicotine because he was touching me. I went in Oct 9th to have some layers put in. (I had grown my hair out to almost one length.) I showed the Asian gentleman how short I wanted the shortest layer, to my shoulders. He chopped off my hair like it was a viral trend. He combed my hair straight back, I thought he was just checking for length. The next thing I felt was the scissors through ALL of my hair at once. Instant dread/fear/regret. He then proceeded to show me all my hair in his fist. He did a few more little snips and in less than 3 minutes my hair was "done". The bulk at end of my hair is gone. The layers/cut is uneven. The shortest layer is at my ears. I have never in my adult life, cried after a haircut. The woman working with him said not to charge me and apologized. I've been having layers put in my hair for over 15 years and never has someone just chopped my hair off at once. Hello. My name is Joe. And I go to Great Clips. If I had to rate the whole chain based on their mobile app, it would be 4.5* all the way. I can at a glance see the wait at the three nearest locations between work and home, and get my name on "the list" at the location with the shortest wait with one push of the touchscreen. Helps me know that I won't have to wait behind two mini-vans full of rugrats needing to get their cut on. Usually means by the time I get there, I'm first in line. HOWEVER.... If Portia is working, I will usually forego my golden ticket to be next, and wait until she is available. Portia listens to what I want done (and by that, I mean what my wife tells me to get done) and does it well. She is very personable and warm. Definitely worth a little wait. Yep, it's the same stylist recommended by another Yelper's "Quick Tip" for her son's cuts. So, I'm pleased to be at least as stylish as a five-year-old.... If not for Portia and the mobile app, this would be a straight 3* "A-OK" review. The place is kept clean and all of the staff has been friendly and willing to take care of me. I've gone to Great Clips my entire life, but would not come back to this one simply based on my experiences at it. Each visit I see completely different people, and the person cutting my hair seems very new at it. A lot of trial and error, and cutting techniques that I've never seen before that lack the confidence of someone who's experienced at what they're doing. My first visit I specifically warned that the length they were suggesting was shorter than I was wanting, and they take the scissors and cut the front bang a couple inches from the root. While internally a bit frazzled, I let them continue assuming it would turn out alright. In the end I came out with the shortest hair I've ever had, legitimately unrecognizable to myself. It took 3 months for me to resemble myself again, and that haircut was specifically for an event that weekend to drive the nail in. My next 2 visits weren't as extreme, but both had notable issues with again, inexperienced haircuts that weren't up to par even for a Great Clips, which I'm already holding to a very mediocre standard. read more

I've been coming to this location since I've lived in austin, about a year and a half now. Up until today I've had nothing but great experiences here, I will NEVER GO BACK!!! I guess they hired a new person, cause this was terrible. Here's how my most recent experience went: Walked in and was greeted immediately. I always get the same haircut, it's in their computer system, no problem there. From the second my "stylist" sat me, it was downhill quick. I've worked in the customer service industry my while life, and talking about how you "like white p-nis" and how you "are going to throw a raging party after the store closes" is NOT cool in front of the customer. I managed to overlook this until the personal comments started flying. "Oh you hair is thin!" "How do you expect me to cut this?!" And "I can't do much here!" are not things someone in the customer service industry should say in front of their patron. Also take your eyes off the "good looking man candy" walking in the door and focus on my haircut which obviously is out of our professional ability, cause it turned out horribly, and all I needed was a trim. Like I said, I've been going here for a while and some of these guys are really good. Norma, and the lady who I'm fairly certain is the manager but can't remember the name of, are great. It can be challenging finding the ONE stylist that will cut your hair exactly the way you want it. Well, I found mine! The first time I came here, Norma cut my hair. She did an excellent job! She made a few recommendations based on what I asked for that made much more sense. I liked that she took her time and checked in with me on how it was turning out. I highly recommend her. We have been going to Great Clips for my sons and husbands hair cuts for a few years now and I have notice the this location is going down hill. Yesterday was the last straw. I took my 14yrd old son there after school to get a quick hair cut and the experience was horrible. First one of the hair stylist had an old friend as a client and they were catching up loudly which is fine, except they were cussing every other word and having inappropriate conversations which the place could hear. I would expect these types of conversations to be in a night club not Great Clips. My son was in the chair right next to them and who knows what he heard. NOT a family atmosphere. So now to the haircut. My son told the lady between a 1 and a 2 guard for the sides and fade up. The lady showed him a guard in her hand and asked him like this. He had know idea and said yes and trusted she knew what she was doing. She shaved so high on his head and did a horrible fade that my 14yr old said it look like a bowl cut and had her just shave his head. I was very surprised when he was done. I had know idea at the time what had happened while he was in the chair until we got in the car and he told me. My son is very upset with the lack of hair he has and I am upset with the whole experience!!! The only reason I am giving them two stars is because there is one hair stylist there that is awesome. Bad experience. I went to another Great clips location in Austin and paid $25 for a blow dry. I asked for the same at this location and while she was washing my hair she said that it would cost me more than $50. I usually go to Ulta and don't pay more than $35. I said sorry but over $50 it's a lot for a straight hair. She said i will do it now but next time you pay more. She only dried my hair in 5 minutes i left with the hair looking terrible and all wet and she also suggested that i should go somewhere at the Domain for a blow dry. If she didn't know how to blow dry or didn't want to to the job she could have told me. read more

Well, I have been going here for my bi-monthly hair cuts for a while now. I have been pretty happy with the service that I have received so far. I can't really complain really. Though it is hard sometimes, it seems that the turn over rate for hair stylist is VERY HIGH. Everytime I go in there a new face appears. I would like to go to a place where I can see a regular stylist who knows me. (Goodness, here I am thinking that a hair salon can be like "Cheers"...)
