Want a leprechaun witch name Chrissy to make your child cry and then throw attitude at you - then come here. We use to come here to see Dulce who was the very best with kids. I came in yesterday and Dulce quit after her last baby and was dealt with the worst excuse for a hair dresser I ever met. Chrissy was pretty curt from the get go because "there were too many people" - wait was like 40 mins but we go in line online and she almost skipped us. I let her know how Dulce cut her hair because it tangles a lot - she sits her on a booster and was a bit manhandling my 9 year old to get her posture right. I sat down to look at a work email across from them - not 2 mins had passed and I saw my baby with tears in her eyes hyperventilating from the way she was brushing her hair. I get up to help her and convince my kid to switch places with me to just calm down. My kid tells me she told her "it hurts" and she apparently dismissed her saying "well we have to get the tangles out". She brushed her hair without any detangling spray or wetting it with some cheap brush. I've never seen someone do that. When I sit down, I simply start to say "she's got a tender head and.." Chrissy: "I'm sorry BUT I WAS brushing her hair GENTLY" and I say "well at home I ..." Chrissy "how would I know how YOU (with the snarkiest tone" brush her hair. And I'm freaking DONE. Then she's just off: "well if you weren't on your phone instead of watching your kid and telling me how to brush her hair this wouldn't have happen" - Soooo... hair dressers need to be told how to brush hair! If you're looking for an old red headed lady with a soul more bitter than cold brew coffee concentrate THEN head here. One of the hairdressers apologized for her behavior but it was ludicrous. I took my kid to the Great Clips on Yale - it was actually cheaper and LaTonia and Annie took great care of us. No tears - not even a Yelp. read more

Just got my 4th "scissor cut" at this location on Taylor. "Z" is a friendly professional who knows her way around a dome full of hair. She follows requested styling details well, and happily touches up to the customer's liking. Uses the "texturing" technique to calm down and thin my thick mop of hair, and does so skillfully and expeditiously. Friendly & good energy as well. Highly recommended. Other staff are courteous both on the phone and in person (I've made 6-8 calls over a year and a half). The online waitlist is a bonus as long as you realize that if you aren't in the salon when you hit #1, you will get bypassed and have to wait for the person now in the chair who was ready and waiting to pay for services. This on line check-in is crap along with the employees attitude. I checked in and waited in my car and the app said 23 minutes wait time and with in a few minutes it read zero. Don't even know who I had as a stylist, but I asked her for short layers with slight face framing ones. I wanted a u shape to appear in the back from the slight layers, where the top layer is shorter than the bottom layer to create dimension. Instead, she took a RAZOR that they use on men's hair and cut out a u shape. She took off about 2 more inches than I asked and I couldn't do anything at that point because by the time I registered she used the razor, it was too late. I've never had this experience before at any great clips location. It's always been a haircut from scissors. Would not go back. read more

I came in for a simple trim after work. I have never had my hair treated so harshly. Yanked when combed through. No products used prior to heat tools. And my hair was a mess by the end. Went there because another great clips didn't cut my hair well and wanted it corrected( a few long hairs in the back were left ) Lady sat me down asked what I wanted and told her I wanted a quick correction from a hair cut from the previous week at great clips. She then sprays my hair wet, asks what I want again and I repeat I got a haircut last week and just need a quick correction. She looks and said we will have to charge you a haircut, this isn't the same great clips. I said well I didn't go to the same location because I don't want the same lady to cut my hair. She barely speaks English and said I don't understand let me get my manager. I then explain again and manager said sorry, you have to go back to that location, this is not the same franchise location. So now my hair has already been sprayed wet AFTER I told them what I wanted and then have to go to the different location. I get the policy to a certain extent, but the correction took literally less than 2 minutes. The customer service at this location is ridiculous. I will never be back. ( happily paid $5 tip to the other lady because she was so friendly and apologetic that she missed the hairs. THAT'S customer service. ) read more

I've been getting my haircut at Great Clips for a little over a year since I arrive to Houston. The stylist's have always done a good job for me. I've had my hair done by other salon's in the surrounding area and this particular Great Clips seems to have their act together. The management and staff is receptive paying close attention to my hairstyle even if I don't know what I want to be done with it. And if I don't they provide me with good examples and deliver satisfying results. I've had my hair styled from everyone on the staff. There isn't anyone here that doesn't know what they're doing. I'm immensely pleased and as long as I'm in Houston I will continue giving them my business. And the price is nice always falling under $10. Can't beat that unless you're deployed. :) read more

How does a chain haircut store get 5 stars? Let me drop some knowledge on you. I pulled into the parking lot and got the spot closest to the door. When I walked in I was promptly greeted, and did not even have to sit down in the waiting area. I was led straight to a chair. This was at 5PM on a week day; when I believe it should be turbo busy. Upon being seated my stylist talked with me about my haircut. It was not the usual formality, she really discussed how she was going to cut my hair, and what she was trying to achieve. I appreciated the focus, and I did not feel like a part of an assembly line. She cut my hair exactly like she said, and I was very pleased with the results. So I got a great haircut with no wait. That's good. Now what made it five stars? The price. It was $6.99! I haven't had a haircut that cheap since I was a kid and my mom would drop me at the Navy base to get my "regular boy haircut." I wonder if there was an "irregular boy haircut?" I will probably never know. Either way, I will be going back! read more

This place is not the same without Tomeka. I've been getting my haircut at this location for 2 years now and I've been able to trust almost the entire staff (Dulce, Tomeka, and Kristen are great) when I drop in for random visits. They must have replaced most of the staff after Tomeka's exit because I don't recognize any of the new stylists, and no offense, they aren't nearly as good. So not only are the stylists not as good but now they shove product marketing down your throat the entire visit. Very sad day. After coming to this location religiously for several years, it's time to search for another place to get my haircut. The last several times I have visited, the haircuts and shampoos have been sub par. Additionally, there is a specific employee who will bother you continuously trying to up sell products. I say no, and she asks. "Are you sure?" This goes on a couple of times. I finally told her she's being pushy and she replies that she's only joking. Pretty tacky. Same haircut person today and the photo is the back of my shirt after a shampoo. Ugg. She asked if I wanted some product on my hair and I said yes, some gel. She then tries to use a gel product that's new, I tel her I use a specific brand and then she offers an even lesser priced brand. Uggh. They have the brand there because I buy it from their shop and there was an open bottle at another station, but I guess she didn't want to spend the extra .15 of product. :( Also, two of the stylists were speaking badly about the owner or manager. Don't know if they realized I could hear them, but another reason not to return to Great Clips. The location has taken a noticeable turn for the worse in ambience and quality. Recommend Sports Clips right across the street. They have much better reviews and stylists. read more

Good for CLIPPER CUTS? Yes. Good for HAIRCUTS? NO!! I chose Great Clips for a haircut yesterday, because the manager gave a presentation about how well the stylists are trained with hair cuts. I asked for an A-line bob, the 45 degree hair cut, in confidence that the stylist new exactly how to do the haircut. And as soon as I sat in the hair the stylist began to snip my hair, he shared with me that it is his most challenging hair cut, and that's it's a hard haircut to do. I felt nervous in his uncertainy. But as a cosmetologist in training, I know it's just hair it's grows out. I liked the length he cut it to very much. I did not like that he took thinning shears when my hair was wet, I made a comment and requested no texture because of my thin hair. I remember When the store mananger came to my school, she asked the class who thinks they need their hair thinned and I raised my hand. She explained to be she would never take thinning shears on my hair because my hair is too thin. So I liked that she educated me on that. I was really upset that the employee did not take in to consideration the density of my hair. My hair feels so flat. And it's hard to run my hands through my hair because my hair has been over texturized.
