The worst hair salon I've ever been to. The staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional, and they completely ruined my daughter's hair.

I don't typically leave bad reviews, but if you come here avoid to Julie/Julia at all costs. I get…read moreit, it's just a $20 hair cut, but this goes beyond any cheap hair cut expectations. I came with my mom here hoping for a quick and easy hair cut, since this would be her first after healing from her cancer surgery and radiation. My mom has some nerve pain in her ear and neck and after explicitly telling Julie this she completely ignored her being in pain or flinching when she was trimming on that side, not asking if she was okay or checking in at all other than to say "almost done" when she was visibly past the point of pain. The entire hair cut she talked about ONLY herself (I get it if you're having a rough day, but your clients aren't your therapist). Ironically, she talked about her own issues with nerve pain, and I would have assumed that made her knowledgeable or at least intuitive to other people with the same issues. Apparently not. When blow drying she directly blew in her face even after my mom told her it was too hot MULTIPLE times. At the end of the hair cut she nicked my moms ear enough for it to bleed and didn't say anything, and never cleaned her off, just took the cape off and asked for payment. When I got home I had to help clean her off and trim the areas she missed. My mom has a hard time advocating for herself due to the mouth surgery, but this goes far beyond that. I have never seen someone so absolutely self absorbed in my life to the point of completely ignoring the person in your chair. Julie, if you're reading this please take this criticism for what it is: a call for you to do better. Please go see a therapist (again, not your clients), and recognize where you can do better for the people you service. PS. If you're cold bring a jacket to work, don't expect your coworker and clients to sweat themselves out for you.

Crazy thing is somehow poker came up and I got super passionate (as usual) and enjoyed the conversation very much. She was genuinely intrigued by how the poker world worked (travel, buy-ins, money management, etc.) She asked, "Are you a good bluffer?" The answer is yes, but I don't bluff often, which is why I'm a good bluffer. Table image plays a large role. In a tournament, I will act weak for hours at lower blind levels so others will attack later when there are bigger pots. So, I don't really rely on bluffing. It's a different style because I want to be bluffed. See what happened there? I got on the topic of poker. My bad! If we're taking about haircuts, great clips!

BACKGROUND TO MY REVIEW OF ACCENT HAIR DESIGN: With over 20…read moreyear's experience having my hair colored I consider myself an educated, albeit paranoid, hair color consumer. I've had my hair colored by some of the best and some of the worst (the worst being a drunken self with equally inebriated friend). I lived in New York for over 10 years where I experimented with salons from Frederic Fekkai to Jean Louis David; during my 10 years in Boston I had my hair colored at in-home salons out in the 'burbs, finally settling with Lynn at Bradley and Diegel on Newbury Street. I've had single process, double process, foils, streaking, highlighting, caps, on and on and on. Been there done that. So it was with great trepidation I started my search for a Charlotte colorist well in advance of my September 2012 move. It came down to two: one high-priced salon in Southpark (initials MS) and Accent Hair Design. I erred on the side of what I perceived to be 'safety' and went to the high priced salon back in October - I had a full head of highlights and at the last minute asked them for a 'quick trim'. They did a glorious job - beautiful highlights & low lights which shimmered and blended exquisitely with my underlying natural color. The haircut was equally gorgeous; I have thick yet fine hair and the cut played up the beautiful color job perfectly. I was ecstatic! I had found my hair color 'home' in Charlotte. As I approached the front desk to pay my bill I kept catching glimpses of my shimmering mane in the many mirrors. The women manning the desk all breathlessly commented on my glorious hair - "how much do I owe" I asked, hardly able to pull my gaze from the mirror behind the desk, "that will be $595". "I'm sorry, how much?" again "$595". Yup - $595. Let me write it again $595. For a freaking cut, highlight and clear 'glaze' shine, no other products or services. In Charlotte, North Carolina, which, by the way, has a cost of living 30% BELOW Boston. ACTUAL REVIEW OF ACCENT HAIR DESIGN: After dropping $595 on October 16 at MS, I milked that baby for all it was worth. By the time I walked into Accent yesterday, my roots were a good 2 inches and my ends were dry and scrabbly. I had stretched that last color job as far as I could by using dry shampoo and only washing it twice a week. After I told Lydia my tale of woe she went to work. 3 hours later my hair was as glorious and shimmering as it was when I walked out of the door of MS back in October. In fact, when she was done I whipped out my phone and showed her a photo I took of my hair back in October while still sitting in the $595 salon; what was clearly evident was Lydia's job was even more detailed than the last job. Her foil placement allowed for a less 'chunky' color job and the end result was a more balanced and blended color. The cut was beautiful and the glaze she used gave the blonde an almost pearly iridescence. Now came the price test - I held my breath as my tab was tabulated at the front desk, clutching $45 worth of product in my hand. "That will be $223" "I'm sorry, how much? Did you include the products I'm holding?" Yup! Minus the products I paid $178 for full head of multi dimensional foils, clear glaze shine and a haircut!!!! Let me write it again - $178 for an equal if not better job than what I paid $595 for 3 months earlier! That's a savings of $420. O.M.G.!!!! Accent Hair Design is not Southpark. It's not fancy schmancy; you won't have one assistant handing Lydia the foils while another assistant mixes the color. But it's comfortable, warm and inviting and, best of all, a place where you can get top notch hair color & cut for a FRACTION of what you'll pay at a high priced salon. Save your money - go to Accent - use the $$ you save and do something worthwhile with it rather than paying the overhead for a high priced salon.

Love Love Love This…read moresalon has exceeded my expectations. I had questions before booking my appointment and the staff was super friendly and answered all of my questions. I did a little bit of digging to find out which salon I wanted to go to and was so happy my new go to salon. The salon itself was really a welcoming vibe of love when you walk in. I had Bethany as my stylus and she did an amazing job and super friendly. All the stuff that I interacted with were all very friendly and welcoming. Definitely will be coming back.

I debated writing this review for a while, but I think it is worth doing. I have NEVER written a…read morebad review in my life, but this salon has the most confusing, least transparent, and most hypocritical pricing system. Let me start by saying the stylists themselves are lovely. This isn't about them. They were kind, professional, and genuinely talented. My issue is 100% with the management and policies that clearly care more about money and marketing buzzwords than about actual customer experience. I booked my appointment with my mom. She picked a "higher-ranking" stylist, so we expected her haircut to cost a bit more--around $30 extra. That made sense. The salon already lists all prices in ranges, which is fine (it's standard since hair length can vary), but their "starting" prices are already high. Whatever, I'm happy to pay people fairly for their time and skill. Then I get there and find out about their "SalonScale" policy, which means you're charged extra for the hair color product itself, weighed by the gram. My stylist told me it would be about $50 more. Annoying, but I was flying out of the country in a few days, so I just went along with it. By the time I was done, my haircut and color were over $400. For a single appointment. Meanwhile, my mom (whose stylist was higher ranked) wasn't even told about this SalonScale charge, and her total ended up less than mine. Our hair is the same length. So explain to me how that makes sense. If the haircut and color are already that expensive... what the hell am I paying for if not the product? , After getting home, I checked on their website to see their SalonScale policies. This is what pissed me off the most, and where it becomes hypocritical. They actually try to justify this extra charge as being for environmental sustainability. Here's what their website says: "We believe in transparency and efficiency, which is why we use SalonScale for our color services. We weigh out our color by the gram with every client to ensure perfect results every time. By weighing out color, we also eliminate waste, keeping in line with our mission to be more sustainable and leave less of an impact on the environment. With SalonScale, we separate the cost of color from the service price using a parts and labor model. This way, you know exactly what you are paying for." Sorry, but you do not believe in transparency. Nothing about this was transparent. I'm not standing back there watching you weigh color by the gram--you could tell me anything, and I'd have no clue. And "charging more money to save the planet"? Give me a break. You don't need to bill your customers an extra $50+ to be sustainable. Just use what you need and don't waste product. Stop using climate change as a marketing prop to justify upselling people. The haircut itself wasn't even what I asked for, but I take some blame for not speaking up right away. I left my hair curly, so I didn't realize how different it was from what I asked for until later. I came back the next day for a touch-up--they said they had a "no charge" policy for that, which I thought was great considering the expensive nature of my haircut. But after the touch-up, my stylist offered to "style" my hair. She phrased it like a nice gesture, a little favor. Then boom--it showed up on the bill as a $50 charge. That's not a favor. That's shady. You need to be upfront with customers about how much things cost BEFORE doing them. I checked online, asked in person, and asked again when I arrived for my touch-up appointment to clarify that there would be no extra charges. , Oh, and the final insult: they charge tax on the tip, which you have to pay. Normally, I wouldn't care, but by that point, it just felt like one last way to squeeze a few more dollars out of me. The sad part is that this could easily be a great salon. The stylists are good at what they do. But the way this business runs? It's manipulative, confusing, and anything but transparent. If you go, just know you might walk out paying $150+ more than what you planned (and with the feeling you've been taken advantage of under the guise of "sustainability").

It was by the stylist Hayley . My hair is now so thin and messed up that I can't even style it. I feel embarrassed to step outside looking like this. A haircut should make you feel good, not leave you depressed and frustrated. Instead, I left the salon feeling absolutely awful. I trusted them with my hair, and they completely ruined it. She never touched any of the clips I brought, and I could not see the updo AT ALL when I looked in a mirror.  She put it in the back of my head despite what I said. Since time was of the essence, I couldn't have her redo it. Additionally, she cut a couple pieces of hair that were sticking out. It took my husband a good 10 minutes to pull all the bobby pins out of my hair at the reception.  I wish I had counted them, but I'd guess there were between 20 and 30 of them. For the amount of money I was charged, I expected her to at least attempt what I had asked for.  Such a disappointment.  I'll never go there again. LISTEN TO YOUR CLIENTS!
