Ruined. My. Evening. I walked in earlier and got a quote of $25 for curling my hair. I'd rather do it myself, but I had misplaced my curling iron and needed the job done for an event I was attending later that evening. "Great" I say. I check in online, all that song and dance, come back with the perfect amount of time to get my hair styled and get to the event on time. I walk in the door and the woman behind the counter, standing next to the woman I had talked to earlier, says no, it'll be $50. I'm willing to pay $30 ($25 plus the $5 I was going to tip) if I'm in a pinch to get my hair curled, but $50? Absolutely Ridiculous. I could BUY a brand new curling iron for that price. Just furious that the previous quote of $25 was not respected, and now I have no time to curl my own damn hair. Ruined my evening, will not be returning to this location. read more

Brought my daughter in for a trim, she's 7 years old and was excited to get her back-to-school cut. I had just picked her up from a sport practice so her hair was in a ponytail. I took it out. When we got to Great Clips the hairdresser took the finest tooth comb he had and started trying to comb her hair that is down to her low back. I could see her wincing in pain and asked him, "Do you have wet brush or hair brush you can use instead?" and he responded with some lovely attitude and sass saying, "We normally expect people to brush their hair before they come in..." Thankfully the comment went right over my daughter's head but I am a 37 year old woman who has been going to actual salons since I was a child and I have NEVER had someone use a fine tooth comp on my hair to take out any small tangles OR have anyone talk to me rudely like that. I went in for a beard trim, which I do every couple of months. I don't recall the name of the barber. I don't think he mentioned his name. While I am satisfied with my beard, he decided to shorten the length of my eyebrows by 50%. He said that they look strange. He also trim my mustache which has always covered my upper lip. He shaves about 50% of it off also. I was so tired when I got home I didn't even look in the mirror until this morning. I was very dissatisfied with the way my face looks right now. If you decide to go there for a beard trim, you need to be specific about what you want trimmed. I don't even want my friends to see me right now. It's going to take at least a month before my face looks halfway natural again. Now I feel bad that I even left the guy a tip. I'll be 70 years old in 3 months, and I have never had anything like this happen to me before. read more

Ronnie cut my hair and it's truly awful. I didn't finish describing what I wanted before he interrupted me to tell me what I am doing wrong to cause the problem I was hoping to get the cut to work around, while already cutting my hair. He DRY cut my hair and it turned out choppy. One of my friends said the ends of my hair look like they were chewed off, and another told me it reminded them of when everyone was using toddler scissors to chop off their hair at home mid-pandemic. Needless to say, that's not the look I was going for... The vibe was apparently share with him that I work in the complainants department at my job, which prompted him to complain about the complaints he gets on his haircuts there, so obviously he wasn't open to my feedback about this horrible haircut he did on me. When I got home, I had to cut 3-4 inches of stray hairs he missed from the ends on both sides (and Ronnie, if you're reading this - I know it was between 3-4 inches because you basically spent the whole time showing me your 7-inch comb over and over again and emphasizing how it had the measurements on the comb). read more

Horrible! Husband had a two bad experiences there and will never go there again. She said you want a fade? He said yes. She said a fade with a 1? He said yes, so she started right at the top so there was nothing he could do and she buzzed his whole fu**ing head at a 1. A fade and a buzz are different! Great clips is where the people who barely got through beauty school go to work. Shame on you guys for not listening or asking enough questions. Horrible. Save yourself time and don't go here. Piles of hair in the corners. Showed the lady a picture of a buzz cut with sharp lines. Simple cut. She f'ed it up and told her what I actually wanted. She than cut it WAY too short. Shorter than my eyebrows. No fade in the back and no forehead edges. I tipped $5 (to not seem like a jerk) and she told me she saw a spot she didn't see and gave me a last second touch up. FAKE!!!! Other people experience the same thing as well. HORRIBLE business model and trash cuts. Not worth $22. I could have done it my self. Go to Coops barbershop in McMinnville and get a REAL cut. Well worth the money there. At Newberg location, the man who cut my hair did not listen to what I asked for and didn't show me the back when finished. I got home and saw that he had cut all of my curl off the back and the length was one half inch!! I was shocked! I went to the Newberg Great Clips to get a haircut. Ronnie is the man who cut my hair. I generally give stylists a $2 tip if they do a good job, which was the case in this situation. When I went to pay, I asked Ronnie if they had a senior discount. He said yes and gave me the discount. Here's where things get sketchy. I was having a problem entering the amount, and Ronnie just said, "Oh, enter the amount and press this button so I did. That was it; no "Wow!" thank you!" or "Are you sure you want to tip that much?" The next day my wife said Did you get a haircut at Great Clips and I said yeah, why? You paid them $40.00?! I said No! only $24.00. Well, they charged you $40.00. I was shocked and said I'll call them. I called 5 times got no answer. My wife said, just call them tomorrow. So that's what I did, and I explained the situation to the gentleman. It was the same person who cut my hair and I said I accidentally gave you a $20.00 tip yesterday can you refund the amount I overpaid? He said no, it's too late, the payment has already posted. I said could you give me a credit toward my next haircut? He said no, he'd have to ask the franchise owner. He said I'll call him later today and call you back tomorrow morning. Well, he didn't, so I called the shop back, and again I called 5 times, and no one answered. I have chalked this up to a lesson learned. I got ripped off by Ronnie, and I will never go to Great Clips again, especially the one in Newberg where Ronnie works. I'm contacting my bank regarding this issue. I didn't have a very good experience here. It felt like they just rushed through my haircut and tried to get it done as quick as possible, leaving me with a very uneven and not very blended cut. They didn't give me time to ask for any touch ups or anything and left me leaving the store very unsatisfied. :( read more

The customer service is way better than that Perfect Look Salon around the corner! The ladies here were so attentive and nice all the time I'll give three stars for that. The only reason I'm holding my other two stars is because these girls have no clue on how to do a simple haircut. Or just trimming the ends. The other thing that bugged me is that they wait and see until you pay to see if you'll pay tips. Never ever go to the Newberg Great Clips! The women working here are incredibly rude and they seem to pick and choose who goes next. After kept waiting over 3 hours was told they are not doing shampoo's. After checking with other salons and the State of Oregon there is no restrictions to washing someone's hair. I usually like getting my haircut because it's curly. It doesn't matter where I go or how much the salon costs, most salons cut it unevenly. However, I do like a good cause. When I do get my hair cut, I go to Great Clips because they partner with Lock of Love. When my hair is long enough, I go in and get the amount of hair they need chopped off and leave with a new 'do...all for free. I then go home and fix the work the stylist did so my hair looks even. Free is free, and when a haircut costs nothing and benefits kids in need, I can deal with doing a bit of the work myself. Schedule an appointment even though Great Clips takes walk-ins. You never know when you are going to end up having to wait for a family of six to get all their hair cut before you. read more

HORRIBLE AND RUDE. Brother went to get his haircut, he doesn't style his hair because 99.9% of the time he wears a hat. But his hair got long and uncomfortable for him, so he wanted it cut. The lady started to LECTURE about how he takes care of his hair when he DID NOT ask. She had no place. And she kept complaining about his curly hair, LIKE SCREW YOU. As siblings we all have natural curly hair, and if you can't handle it you shouldn't be working with hair then. Horrible customer service, and they should really be looking into that. read more

My husband just got his hair cut here. First, he has plaque psoriasis on his scalp. It makes his scalp flaky and he's very insecure about it. He always warns people who cut his hair beforehand. The woman who cut his hair apparently talked the entire cut about all the drugs he should try and magical solutions that worked for other people. He's battled with the disease for seven years and does not need to hear that when he's doing the one thing he's insecure about. He come home very upset. Second, the haircut. Way too long on top so his head looked really tall. The front also looked like an actual bowl cut. Where the forehead section transitioned over the ears was a right angle. Ridiculous. And, when they screw up your haircut, so long as you don't feel too uncomfortable complaining about it, they'll get a more qualified barber to fix it (and give you a coupon for a free cut on your next visit... This last occasion I went I asked for specific haircut and the stylist has the audacity to argue with me at the end of the cut stating that that the cut was done how it was asked for. What a proper description of the cut I was asked for was given she still for some reason argued that that's the cut that was given. I have had my children go here several times, as well as my husband and myself. I will never go again. I have had several beauticians do my families hair over the years, we were poor so kept going as it was affordable. Every time we go I come home and have to "fix" the uneven bangs, hair etc. Last time my entire hair cut was uneven. They seem more interested in being fast then accurate. They used to put styling products in your hair and blow it dry so you could get an idea, now they leave it wet and send you on your way. Also expect to need to shower afterward, you will be covered in small micro-hairs down your neck since and back (no matter how they attempt to do the draping). read more

I was getting married, and the stylist I thought I reserved was not at her salon. (sad face) Rather than going all bride-zilla and freaking out, my maid of honor and I went to this Great Clips. The wait was only 20 minutes. The stylists did an amazing job, for both of us, and it was just what I asked for - not too much hair spray!
