We gave this salon 2 tries and both times I've left disappointed. The first time was okay, but there are clipper marks on my sons head and it's uneven all around the back. We asked for a medium skin fade and there's no fade, it's just a level 3 all the way around, which is not what I asked for. The stylist we had today was snappy with me when I asked for a full wash - cut - style for my preteen. She kept mentioning "that's an extra $$ and it will take more time." 10/22/2019 My children and I came in today for a quick neck trim. I made a placement for my daughter and I and my son sat with us reading his books. We waited for our turn behind someone who scheduled online, which wasn't too long of a wait. I heard the lady who trimmed his hair say, "You sure you weren't in the Military or anything before?" The customer already told her no, twice as they walked up. When it was our turn, I told the lady that I wanted my daughter to go frist so I can see what she was going to do. (Quick Note: my daughter is of mixed race with beautiful curly hair from her African American side) The lady was not happy that I asked for my daughter to go first. I walked back there and the lady looked so upset already, looking at her hair like it was going to be a huge issue. I quickly voiced that we were there for a neck trim and the lady (short blonde hair and quick to judge attitude) said, "At this place if we use clippers it's considered a haircut and I'll have to charge you for one" (which is $15 instead of $6) So she went to change the appointment and quickly went to work pinning her hair up and trimming her neck line. While she was working on my daughter's hair she asked a couple of questions which made me form quite a distain for her. She asked my daughter ,"So do you like having your hair like this?" (meaning curly) my daughter a bit thrown aback, but answered that she did. Took her a couple of minutes and my daughter was done. A different lady, who just finished with another customer (shoulder length blonde hair in a dress and a barber apron) took me back. I also told her that I was there for a neck trim and she was so willing to quickly do a trim and charge me $6. The shorter lady who was working on my daughter looked at her and shook her head, and said no and to charge for a haircut. I took a deep breath and my hair stylist apologized and wished she offered or could give me a coupon. My hair stylist was very pleasant and cleaned up my hair line beautifully. I asked her if she could fix my bangs too since I was being charged for a full haircut. She left me with fluffier bangs and was super nice and informative. If I could redo this afternoon, I would've waited until the other lady came back from her break, or just waited for the longer haired lady for both of us. When someone is already not willing to touch or work with ethnic hair, it was already a deeper issue. To even ask my daughter if she even liked her hair in her natural state was rude and wrong. She even told her co worker that her dress looked like it was too hot to be wearing indoors. From the last time I was here, from the chewing hair stylist, to a racist one. I'm not impressed. The longer blonde haired lady was the only person that made us feel welcomed. She even praised my daughter on her hair, and when the other lady heard it she huffed. I understand that it's 2019, but moving from one city to experience this still isn't what we're looking for as a family. I'll only come back if I don't see that short blonde lady in there again. Mind you I'm Filipino, my children are mixed, and anyone deserves to feel welcomed in an establishment, not unwanted. read more

This place is a nightmare. There is never shorter than a 1 1/2 hour wait. They aren't open when theire our say they are. And they are constantly understaffed. read more

$15 and a $5 tip and my sons hair looks terrible and he is covered in hair like she didn't even clean him off a little bit. We won't come here again. I'll be going to another salon to pay again to have this cut fixed. read more

I checked in and arrived in time for my expected turn in the chair and I get ignored for a walk-in to be served before me

Poor customer service. Every time I call in for appointment they say they don't do appointments and then tell me to go to their website or app to schedule appointments. The online is always down. When I ask them to schedule me in, they don't do so over the phone cause it's a walk In only. But when I get there it's always a 3-5 hour wait. This happened to me four times in a row. I understand they are over booked but this is ridiculous. Management need to figure out something. It's obvious they do cause I always here the staff talk about how frustrated they are when pissed off customers comes In and throw a tantrum. Your employee don't deserve this. They have said almost every visit I had, that this has been an issue for quite sometime and that they have said something about it and still none has been done. Get it together management. I've been a customer with great clips for a long time. After this experience I'm finally hanging up my kindness and taking my business elsewhere. Im sure lots of other barber places would welcome my business. read more

Staff are nice and make you comfortable while you have your haircut. This is your typical small town shop, lots of locals but busy on most days. Quick additional tip: place is slow on Sundays - most folks watching football equals almost no line. read more

Karen really saved the wedding photos! She took me in and trimmed me up nice and well! Waiting in line was a pleasant experience. The one thing about this is that you can actually get your hair cut when you want it, rather than having to make an appointment two weeks in advance! Seriously ... I am never going back to Great clips again. I waited 45 minutes for them to tell me that they were uncomfortable with doing my hair. The saddest part... I called ahead, explained what I wanted, and made sure that they were comfortable.... why agree to something you're not comfortable with? It was a basic soft romantic curl look! If you are a male this seems like a place for you because male haircuts are the only thing that they can do here. read more

Prepare to wait at least 45 minutes....longer on the weekends. Some of the ladies are nice.....others treat you as if you are an inconvenience as soon as you walk in the door. I only get my sons hair cut here and sometimes they give good hair cuts......other times they don't..... Depends on who is cutting the hair. I'll probably never go here again because even if you check in with the app, when you arrive they still tell you it will be more than 45 mins. read more

Great Clips in Yelm is awesome! The staff are friendly and courteous. They keep notes on your haircut, however, I change my cut now and then, and am always happy with the results! I have been to Great Clips in Lacey and Tumwater. Because of the notes that are kept, I know my haircut will be what I want. With that said, Yelm is my favorite shop. I travel the extra distance because everyone there is amazing, and they treat me (and everyone else) well. I brought my grandchildren in for haircuts, and my 2 year old grandson wasn't thrilled to be getting his hair cut. Rachael was able to get him calmed down and laughing! Online check in doesn't help! After waiting for the 26 minutes that online check in told us, we arrived and told there would be an ADDITIONAL 30 minutes of wait time until we could get our cuts... This salon has now done this to us 3 times...lost our business. It doesn't matter how great a stylist is if the systems don't work! read more

Will only take my son here for his cut! Tried high end salons, and they charge way to much and I had to go have it fixed. Great clips keeps notes, ask questions, and are super friendly! Make a appoitment as they can become super busy. Affordable and great place for haircuts. read more

I was treated with respect. They were busy. I used the check in app which did eliminate my wait time. When I called they informed me to use that. Until today I've never had an issue getting my hair cut here. I had a new girl, Nicole, cut my hair. I asked for a low fade, just as I normally do, and she gives me a high fade. She leaves hair on one side of my head uneven, doesn't ask how I want the back, she just blocked it, and to make matters worse, she didn't even clean me off afterwards. She just left a bunch of clumps of hair all over me. The lady waiting next in line was kind enough to tell me that I had hair all over me still. She also had horrible people skills. After having another horrible experience at the yelm -safeway great clips on March 21,2019 I thought I better write a review....The stylist ended up almost shaving my head to attempt to cover up the mess she made of my hair..This is after I went home and the hair by this time had dryed and not only did I have a bowl-ring around my head she also left a large clump of hair to be cut...I returned to great clips immediatly..This is the 4th time that I've had to return to get my hair re-done...over the past year and a half... I thought this problem would go away after a change in stylist--WRONG!!! We travel and I use great clips all over the country and NEVER have I walked away with this experience.. Then I was still required to pay for the haircut..???.Where is your customer service?? I just moved to the area and after a disaster haircut at another walk in place I was a bit leery but thought I would give this place a try. I had a great experience, staff was very friendly and the stylist cut my hair exactly like I asked. Also nice that they use neck strips under the cape, even on longer hair like mine, so you are aren't covered in annoying stray hairs the rest of the day! Convenient hours too, I like that they are open late.Good prices and I veven got a coupon for $2 off my next haircut. I will definitely be returning read more
