Yelp has delivered again! I was looking for a new hair stylist after using the same one for 6 years. I wanted someone who had expertise in blond highlights that stay blonde and fresh. My hair can sometimes get an orange tint to it when it is highlighted and I was tired of that happening and spending time to get it fixed. Not to mention, my hair was fried and frizzy. I found this salon and booked a hair appt with Kevin. Kevin is super personable, listened to what I wanted, was realistic in what we could achieve, and told me it would take 2-3 times to get my hair to the place I wanted it. Well, I just finished my third appt and I am in LOVE with my hair. It is as healthy as it has been in years and is a vibrant, beautiful blond color. He recommended products which I use religiously, which has really helped my hair healing process. Kevin is always on time for appts, easy to book with, and works quickly and efficiently. What used to take upwards of 3.5 hours, now takes 2.5 at the most. He prices are on par with an upscale salon, which I am fine paying, since he does such a great job. Turns out, a lot of people I know go to him. It is worth the drive to Yelm from Olympia, for sure. The salon is beautiful inside, with a nice ambiance, music, and fun chatter throughout. Saw Marcela for a foil and small haircut. My ends are bleach blonde but my roots grow out dirty blonde. I explained my goal is to be completely bleach blonde but I damaged my hair by doing it myself. I explained what I've been doing at my regular salon is just foil my grow out. The top is always a bit darker but I do like my hair bleach blonde. I even said my natural color makes my hair look dirty. She was careful with the processing of the foils, however, we never discussed toning my hair. I do not tone my hair. She toned my hair, the ends, the fresh foils everything. So what I ended up with is an all over darker color that covered up the new bleached foils. Now why would I bleach my hair to then in the same 10 minutes go darker? Not a lot I can do to fix it because my hair is already damaged. I've stripped it with a clarifying shampoo about 8x, used purple shampoo and considered a bleach wash. I was getting my hair done for a trip to Vegas in 2wks. Not enough time to get it redone and risk losing hair. She did do a good haircut. Overall I paid for what I did not want, darker toned hair. I was quite upset and a little frantic when I got out of the darker salon lights and saw the color. Inside I thought it was just the darker lights, at first I was pleased with the result but I hadn't realized it was muted and darker. The golden hair that comes thru with a foil, was covered up and dull. I called to ask what could I do and no one ever called me back. I paid $350 and the stress of trying to get the toner out of my hair. read more

Gregory, the owner, took me right in as a walk-in. I'm so happy I found Salon Nouveau. My sister is getting married and I needed to get a really good haircut and he did a perfect styling of my hair. He studied the cow licks on my head, of which I have a lot! He figured out how to tame my mane! It was so good that I put another appointment down in the books 3 weeks from today. Worst customer service ever. Kevin made my wife feel so horrible about her hair saying it was damaged. Which is not the case my wife uses Olaplex hair treatment due to her hair being damaged from previous salons. She has not touched her hair in over a year and religiously did her hair treatments. She was looking forward to her appointment that she booked 3 months ago. Instead of being professional and giving some tips as it is a hair salon. He just told her he wouldn't touch it and didn't give any alternative advice or options. Worst experience for her will never come back or recommend this place. read more

I went to see Jade and she did an amazing job (better than my old hair stylist I'd had for about 10 years). And the prices were really reasonable. A great bonus was the products they use to wash and style your hair are great quality. I have very sensitive skin and used to have to wash my hair shortly after my appts. with my old stylist because my head would itch, but my scalp was not irritated at all after this appt. I waited over 5 mins until the someone asked if I had an appointment. I had made a comment that she looked familar, she told me she was the owner but the way she was responded was prude as if I wasn't good enough to know her. A little late writing my review, but better late than never. I came in, and arrived on time, with a same day appointment to see Paige. The previous customer ended up taking an hour and a half longer passed her appointment, but the staff was all very courteous and apologetic. I get it, things sneak up on ya. Paige was very friendly, warm and personable. She did my hair exactly to the specifics I asked and even ran next door to grab me a snack while I was processing. He said to give it five minutes, and if she didn't show, he'd take me. Lucky for me she didn't show, and he took me right away and provided great service. He washed, cut, and styled my hair and made sure I was happy with the length, texture, and style. I am not only happy with the services I received, but also the professionalism of the entire salon. Typically I think people with bad experiences post reviews more then Good experiences but I'm not that type of person. I'm going to lay out what was good of my experience along with the million things that went wrong. Good The salon was really decorated neat and they were very friendly. Offered beverages to clients and they also have waxing on site. Cut was ok according to what I asked. Bad My stylist in particular, Jade, chemical burned my forehead from the color. I had color on my forehead and on the sides of my face and she didn't get it off...I left the salon looking like I just died my own hair and got it everywhere. I asked for chunky blonde highlights in my dark brown hair and got really thin highlights. My roots are orange now and my under layers blondes are orange. Very amature color job. And it took 3 hours! !!! There were very willing to do what they could to make this right after I left I called because I hadn't noticed any of this until I was closer to a mirror and realized how terrible it looked. The highlights were in some spots and then I have some spots with none. The highlights also don't go to the roots they start further down. read more

I went here for a cut, because my normal stylist was out of town and I needed something with later hours. I was 5 minutes early for my appointment, and was told by my stylist that she was running about 20 minutes behind... That should have been my first red flag. Then when she finally sat me in her chair she did a piss poor consultation. Asked me what I wanted, when I explained I just need my layers blended, since my niece decided to cut a chunk out of my layers, but I wanted to keep the length. She then said o.k and begun to tell me how she's really great with long hair and that her Dad owns the salon so she's "got this", she shampooed my hair really fast and got me in her chair again with water running down my back. she then sectioned my hair and began cutting. I knew she messed up the moment she turned me away from the mirror and wouldn't turn me back until My hair was dry. She chopped it, 6" gone. Yeah.... She is really good at long hair, at chopping it off! the layers were so heavy, she did no texturizing so I had blunt choppy layers. I should have just waited until my stylist was back in town. I wouldn't even let her "fix" in fear she'd destroy my hair even more. I went back to my normal salon in McKenna and I have learned my lesson! read more

For 35 years every hair dresser I've ever been to has said my hair is the thickest and most challenging hair they've ever cut. I've had a few decent cuts over the years but Gregory gave me the best cut! Sure, any cut might look good the first day, but he cut my hair so that it went with the direction my hair naturally wants to go in... and if you've got curly or thick hair with crazy cowlicks you know you can't just get any cut unless you want to go back every week and wear a hat to bed! Amber has been my stylist for almost 9 years. I sent all my friends and family to her. She's great with color, cut and style. My hair is thin and straight she is very precise with this type of hair. She's very knowledgeable and spends the time to listen to what your needs and concerns are. You will have to make an appointment with her to get in but it's worth it.
