After traumatic experiences in the past, I finally mustered up the courage to go for a teeth cleaning. I was on the verge of cancelling the appt a day before due to anxiety. So glad I didn't. Kiesha, office manager, was very friendly and encouraging. Yutki, hygienist, was very gentle and talked through every process so there were no surprises. Dr. Duval was very informative and reassured me that this experience would be better.... and it was! After the appt was over, I told myself, see, it wasn't that bad. It may be called "Great Expressions", but don't expect to walk out with great expectations. Had to use this from another review, because it is so true. Now for me Great Expressions was not my first choice, but I did not want to wait til February to see my dentist, so I choose this location, bad choice. I should have know by the other reviews, from other locations, that I would be disappointed. On my first visit to the doctor the front desk, dental assistant and dental hygienist all introduced themselves and explained their procedure. Well the dentist comes in, introduces herself with a mask on, so I can barely understand what she says, not to mention rude. That is strike one for me. Next, the dentist proceeds to ask me what procedure do I want preformed - extract, filing, crown? So I am lost that a dentist would ask me what work I want done without showing me my x-rays or discussing on some form of paper the issues I have going on. No the doctor would rather look in my mouth and discuss, in dental terms, my issues. That's strike two for me. Lastly, I felt the dentist was trying to rush me into treatments without seeing my x-rays and when I finally said I am not making any choices because I don't know what my exact issues are. The dentist could see the frustration on my face, but rather her show me my x-rays and go over my issues with me, she proceeds to tell her assistant something and walks off from me without saying anything else. Now that is strike three. I don't understand how you are in a customer service position, but your customer service is crap. If you don't like your job, dentist, then don't do it, I'm sure there are plenty of others looking for a practice that can at least provide the services "I" paid to be provided. Not to mention that I called and wrote to the HR department a week ago and was suppose to hear a something back within 24 business hours. It has been a full week and still nothing from the Corporate HR/Customer Service office. So if you are not going to call me about my issues, what makes me think their dentist will provide proper customer service. Those are the type of questions that makes you wonder. So from my experience and the other reviews I see from other Great expressions location, I would NOT recommend anyone going to any Great Expressions locations, because I know, personally, my location will NOT leave you with "Great Expectations"! They should not have any stars, but could not post without a rating, but the dentist deserves a big fat ZERO stars. I have had previously negative experiences with the dentist, so I was very cautious. However, Dr. Kat and her wonderful staff made every minute pleasant and an overall wonderful experience. Taylor, Michelle, Keisha and Dr. Kat all introduced themselves to me and explained all procedures thoroughly. Taylor took care of my X-rays and did so in a timely manner, Michelle was a wonderful hygienist who explained my X-rays to me and made sure I was comfortable. Keisha came and walked me through all of the insurance work (even prior to anything being done - so I knew what I was getting done and paying for!!) and Dr. Kat was kind and informative. I wish there was an option for no starts. Horrible place full of con artists employees. I recently moved to Georgia from florida and was looking for a dentist office in order to get my teeth cleaned. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months and i take care of my teeth very well, in fact i always hear great compliments about my teeth when ever i go to the dentist. I shopping at publix when saw great expressions in the same plaza so decided to stop by for a cleaning. I walk in explaining i was interested in a regular cleaning and right away they started offering me their insurance plans and told me if i purchase their insurance i will be covered for 2 regular annual cleanings. So i purchased that insurance plan and they brought me to the back to begin. I was sat down on the chair waiting for someone to come and do my xrays. 15 mins later this lady shows up saying i will be going your xrays today, its took her 25 mins to do them she definitely didnt know what she was doing, not to mention that the plastic head of the camera kept breaking off and falling on my head. So 25 minutes later she says to me were done with the xrays and ill have our 'teeth specialist' come and do a full teeth exame that will determine what kind of cleaning you will need today. I asked her if she saw anything alarming on the xrays she said not at all. So again i had to wait there for another 20 mins for the 'specialist' to come. Finally she comes, introduced herself and explained to me that shes going to check my teeth tooth by tooth and give them numbers of their condition and if i hear any number larger than 3 then it means that tooth is in bad condition. So she begins and starts throwing numbers at me and most of them were either 4 or 5 which from what she explained means my teeth are in bad shape. After 30 minutes of doing this rediculous check she tells me that i have an active disease in my mouth and that i have 9 holes in 9 teeth and i need a deep cleaning. After explaining this to me she tells me that their main dentist will come in to give my teeth a final look and tell me what i need. So the dentist walks in and tells me again all the issues my teeth have and tells me the receptionist will give me all the pricings. I told her i want a regular cleaning today im not going to pay $1300 for a 'deep cleaning' so she tell me legally we cannot do that because your teeth have to have the deep cleaning. So she gives me the total of all the things i need done which total to $5000. I asked for the xrays copy and walked out. Today i went to a different place had my teeth cleaned recieved some feedback on the condition of my teeth and was very happy with the professional manner they have. Needless to say the new place confirmed to me that none of the issues i was told i have are true and that they had planty of new clients come to them with similar stories from 'great expressions' and that they ladies there work off commission so they tell you that you need all these things done in order to make their commissions. read more

I STRONGLY dislike going to the dentist. The team at the Sandy Springs location of Great Expressions is fantastic, and make an unbearable thing tolerable. Ths entire staff is wonderful, but Rey and the hygienist (unfortunately, I can't remember her name) are AMAZING. They are courteous, knowledgeable, and have such pleasant dispositions. My first appointment was a consultation and started with the hygienist. She was incredibly helpful, polite, friendly and funny. She cared about what was going on in my mouth, and explained the issues in a detailed way that I could understand. After the hygienist completed the x-rays, Dr. Aaron came in, did an exam, and recommended the next steps in a master plan, but didn't push anything. Then came the financial coordinator. She was kind, patient, and answered every one of my questions. The price of the treatments was a little more than I expected, but i didnt feel like it was price gouging. During my first appointment with Dr. Aaron, she really demonstrated her expertise. Rey was detailed and explained what was being done during my visit. He is extremely professional, and has a vibe that puts you at ease. After the explanation, Rey and Dr. Aaron went to work. During the procedure, an issue came up. Dr. Aaron explained what the issue was and recommended two options to remedy the issue. I decided how to proceed, and they changed direction in the middle of my procedure because it was the right thing to do. We have a few more things to do, but I am on the road to recovery and it feels great! I'll be going back to this location as long as I'm in this area. read more

I hadn't been in for a dental exam for 3 years due to ever revolving staff at my previous GE location...... which concerned me greatly. So last week when LaKesha called randomly, I was reminded that I'm well past due for an exam, so I gladly made an appointment for a visit. And boy am I glad that I did. I'd been having a lot of sensitivity and a heavily coated (disgusting) tongue (for years) and sometimes brushing was painful. ....... long story short. Kudos to LaKesha for bringing me in and for being so dang funny, smart and professional. She's gonna be an awesome Mommy. Kudos to Michelle for explaining (in simple words that even I could understand) WHY I NEEDED the deep cleaning treatments that she said was necessary. And for so sweet, patient, and competent too boot. She did an amazing job of riding my choppers of the hard stuck-on gunk that I couldn't scrape off myself. (I'm a dolt) And more Kudos for Dr. Katragunta for drilling down my old filling in preparation for replacing them with long overdue crowns that I will be getting next week. And for judging the CORRECT amount of nova-cane(?) for a painless procedure. YES! Needless to say ..... others have judged incorrectly. And lastly, but NOT leastly .... Kudos to Taylor for the awesome temporary crowns that she made practically before my eyes. And for the X-ray session that didn't tub on those weird and HUGE bones at the bottom of my mouth. I hate those annoying, sensitive things! Like everyone else, I greatly fear and am suspicious of Dental practices because of a few bad experiences and from being financially taken advantage of in the past for work that others deemed unnecessary, but I'm moving beyond that now, and I feel and hope that I've found a great practice with even greater staff that has and will continue to help me maintain healthy teeth for many years to come. P.s. It's only been a week since my cleaning with Michelle .... and NO MORE DISGUSTING COATED TONGUE!!! HALLELUJAH!!! read more

This place will offer you services that you *don't* need in order to make more money. I finally have good dental insurance and just happened to make an appointment here without doing much research. My mistake. I came in expecting my teeth to be cleaned and to talk about whitening options. I had lots and lots of x-rays (which was fine), I met with a doctor for about 10 minutes, then a hygenist *looked* at my gums. I waited for about 30 minutes (with a bib on) before a receptionist sat me down to show me the financing and payment options I had for my teeth to be cleaned. 500 %&##ing dollars to get my teeth cleaned. WITH insurance. I checked my policy later and saw that my insurance covers at least two cleanings per year and my teeth are not in that bad of shape to need some magical sandblasting of a cleaning service. I really thought that I would at least get my teeth cleaned. I left in a hurry (ripping my bib off in the process) because I was having flashbacks to being at smarmy used car lots. I will be having them transfer the x-rays taken to a trustworthy dentist and will be getting a second opinion on the amount of cavities they said I had. Long story short, I don't want to be manipulated when it comes to my health care. When a doctor tells me something, I want to trust that they are being honest with me and that is not the case at Great Expressions. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Elizabeth Van at the Great Expressions Dental Center on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe.  She performed a routine initial exam, during which I confirmed that I brush daily and floss daily.  She asked if I ever experienced bleeding gums, and I reported that I do not.  Nevertheless, she referred me to the Great Expressions Specialty Center on 12 Mile in Warren, MI.  Before this invasive procedure, I was required to get clearance from my heart doctor, which I did.  At my appointment at the Specialty Center, I was seated in the chair, examined by a Dr. Rabbani, told I required a $928 deep teeth cleaning that involved an invasive scaling and planing of my teeth below the gum line, a process that would be completed in two sessions to cover four quadrants of my mouth.  The deep cleaning, I was informed by a staff member, would not be covered by my insurance.  I was urged to apply for Care Credit.  Believing that I needed the service, I agreed to complete the credit application while sitting in the chair. I also paid $300 with my debit card.  The balance was charged to Care Credit on the spot as soon as I signed.  After I sat napping in the chair for about 30 minutes, Dr. Rabbani came in, scraped and polished the surface of my teeth above the gum line in 20 minutes.  She told me I would be scheduled for a follow-up appointment to check on the success of her work.  What?  After I questioned her about the procedure, she assured me that she had completed a deep cleaning.  I have had my teeth deep cleaned before; it's a painful process that caused scraping (and bleeding) below the gum line and took place in multiple sessions.  I have also had standard cleanings, which is exactly what she provided. My teeth were not scaled and planed beneath the gums.  I was charged $928 for a regular cleaning.  I know the difference. I am in the process of attempting to expose Great Expressions, Dr. Van, and Dr. Rabbani. I complained to the Grosse Pointe and Warren offices and was given a corporate office phone number to call with my complaint. Unfortunately, there appears to be no corporate office, only a PO Box in Orlando and an unresponsive phone number at which I listened to a recording, left messages, held the line for long periods and requested call backs, but despite over a dozen calls, I have not received one response.  I'm a senior on a fixed income, so scams like this are particularly hurtful, both financially and emotionally.  I understand that my insurance coverages are not what they were when I was working, and I frequently have co-pays for medical procedures.  However, to be charged upfront for a procedure that was not performed is theft.  What happened to me is complete fraud. Do not trust this corporate dental office.  Go to an independent dentist with credible reputation. read more

Like most, it has been some time since I've been to the dentist. There are not many dental providers that take insurance, as this was on the list and many other's on the list all had mixed reviews I decided I would try this Great Expressions as it's close to my office. I was nervous coming here mainly due to the reviews, however there was one review that Yelp did not post for all to see that helped me choose this office. It was one written by Torre, and I agree with all she said. The office was organized, thorough and personable. Kesha, the manager, was upfront and knowledgeable regarding my insurance and also when it came time to go over the cost, she was able to explain options that I might be able to do. Taylor, the assistant was friendly and fast, especially when it came to take those xrays that usually hurt, she made it quick and painless. Michelle, the hygienst was very thorough, she explained my x-rays in detail and had taken photos of my teeth and gums and then explained to me what she was looking at, she also explained what the difference was between a deep cleaning (since I asked what that was) versus a scaling root planing. She then proceeded to explain everything she was doing to me as she was doing it. Even when it came time for the obigatory "poking the gums", now I understand why, and this helps lower my dental anxiety. Dr. Kat, was super friendly & very laid back. She also explained everything so that I could understand why I needed what I needed. All in all, I would recommend this office. I may not be happy with my treatment plan ( that's my fault) but I understand why it's needed. read more

I have been to the office a total of 4 times and each time I keep telling myself that I will not be back, but this time, I mean it! I have had a severe pain coming from the left side of my mouth and each time, Dr. Aaron has told me I do not have any cavities and she doesn't see what the problem could be. The last time I went, just to get me out of the office, she gave me a referral to have my wisdom teeth removed. Why, after almost a year (in March) would you just now give me a referral when I could have had one months ago? She doesn't give me any medication for the pain, and after dealing with the pain escalating into an unbearable state, I go to an emergency dentist that was open after I get off of work. I'm in his office 20 mins top, and he tells me, guess what? I HAVE A CAVITY, and it needs to be filled and/or I can have the option of having the tooth extracted. He gives me a prescription for antibiotics as well as medication for the pain, and sends me on my way. They want their money up front and they diagnose you any way possible to get more money. I am not saying that all Great Expressions dental centers are the same, but please do not go to the one in Sandy Springs. I have heard their staff have inappropriate conversations about their patients wasting their time and the lady who checks on out, Keendra, makes you feel so uncomfortable when she is going over your benefits with you and when you check out. The only person in the office that I have had somewhat a pleasant experience is the hygienist. She was sincere and I know she truly cares about the patients well being when it comes to the health of their teeth. read more

I transferred to this location from one in Snellville because I relocated. The Dr. was nice and both hygienists I saw the first couple of appointments were okay. Not as thorough though about the cleaning and checkups as I am used to by my previous hygienist in Snellville. The problem was with the front desk clerk/ billing person. I call her Ms. Brainfog. I will not say her name but she was not aesthetically pleasing enough to have greeting your customers, especially in a dental facility. You'd just have to see and experience her for yourself. ANYWAYS. She had given me a treatment plan on 3 occasions which, when I called my insurance, turned out to be much more than the contracted rates. I actually was quoted by insurance less that half of what she quoted me most times. When I called her back to tell her what the insurance quoted me, we would go over each item step by step and she said she made herself notes and would verify again with insurance and call me back. My calls were hardly ever returned, or the phone was constantly busy, or I would be put on hold and no one would come back to the line. When I did get through to follow up, she was totally clueless about what we had discussed and I had to explain to her the situation over and over again. How could you repeatedly forget whole conversations that you've had with someone?? I even on one occasion went to the office during opening ours and the door was locked. No one was in the office, no 'be back soon sign." It got to a point where I didn't want to talk to her or anyone in that office anymore. It was pointless... I did make contact with a girl in the main billing facility who was very nice and willing to try to help me, but even she got the run around. Anyhow, I would just try to make sure that before anything was done I knew what I would be paying when I walked out the door. It's much safer that way, right? NO! After a treatment I was told I needed a mouth rinse that costs $20 in the office. I asked instead to be given a prescription because I could get the same mouthwash at a nearby pharmacy for $4. The doctor reluctantly gave me the prescription and I got it filled the next day. I received a bill a couple weeks later with a line that said "Perio discus Rx $20" I called to inquire about the charge. Ms. Brainfog says "it was for the mouth rinse we gave you" I said I didn't get the mouth rinse, I got a prescription from the Dr." She said she would look into it and call me back. What was there to look into? Well okay. All it takes is verifying that I got a written prescription and the charge will be taken off, right? Wrong! It took 4 months receiving bills from them and calling and repeatedly disputing the charge and asking for an adjusted bill. The mgr was always in a meeting and no one could fix this problem at that location. I called corporate to complain and they referred me back to the office I was seen at. Great! Guess who was in charge on the days the mgr was out? Yours truly... sigh. It was like a revolving door. No one who could fix things right away, just the damn run around. I finally got an adjusted bill that stated " miscellaneous courtesy credit $20" WELL THANKS A LOT FOR THE FAVOR GUYS... NOT!!! I went into the office to pay my bill and at the same time filled out papers to have my files released when I decided where I wanted to transfer to. I will never go back to this location. I won't be surprised if they closed down in the near future. read more

I couldn't be happier with my dentist now. I have been coming here for a while now and I actually enjoy my visits. I never liked going to the dentist but they make my time there very pleasant. From the desk to the dentist everyone is pleasant and friendly. I am on my third crown replacement and Dr. Aaron and her staff have done an amazing job each time. I never notice the new crown! I can't even tell the difference in my bite or coloring. They are always asking if I am doing ok during the procedures. They always state up front and clearly what the insurance will cover and won't be covered. I never feel pressure to do anything. I can't imagine going anywhere else! read more
