Came on a weekday dinner and were surprised with how popular the spot was! We'd been putting it off for years and finally showed up. We got a seat but everyone behind us was waiting for one to free up. I could tell it was busy when we found one of the only parking spots in the far back almost to the mall. What was going on?! I guess summer in Kilmarnock. We usually only go out on weekends in the summer so this was an eye opener. Good for them! The hostess was bizzy as she was also the flight boss for the large number of take outs going on. Once we were seated it seemed that all the frenzy was gone. The place was absolutely a Chinese restaurant and had the perfect decorations of a long established place. I love the NNK because any time I can get crab-whatever I go for it. So of course I ordered the crab wontons. No idea how much crab or krab they contained, but they were kinda tasty. I'm almost always a fried dumpling orderer, but here - I'm going to always change it up from now on. For the main meal, I went with the old staple General Tsao's Chicken because I couldn't decide. Definitely something I'll be changing off of next time. Not because I didn't enjoy it but because I want to try it out. So, was it a fantastic Chinese restaurant. Nope. Was it much better than I was expecting. Absolutely. And since it's my "home turf" I'll be going more often. Heck, I may be one of the hordes of people there next time. read more

Visited Great Fortune last night with my wife . I ordered " The Happy Family " which tuned into " The Unhappy family " . The, beef ,chicken and pork were overcooked . Everything tasted like it was made the day before . Brown sauce was tasteless and way too salty and watery . Dish contained Overcooked broccoli along with uncooked broccoli . Chiken strips were like rubber bands . Wife was told that Hot tea was included with meal , which was Not true - we were charged . Wife did not receive the item ordered and when it came 10 minutes later my meal was cold . Worst experience in eating Chinese food in over 50 ty years . . . Very good food, ambience, service, and plating of food. The Vegetable Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, Spicy Chicken and the Shrimp are some of our favorites. Much more to try though. The fried dumplings have a sausage mixture inside which has a good flavor, but which is a bit firm. Some in are group liked them and others did not. The sauces on the entrees have a good flavor and the vegetables are fresh and nicely cooked. On the last visit, we ordered: Fried Dumplings, Vegetable Fried Rice, Vegetable Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, Spicy Chicken and Shrimp, and General Tso Chicken. Tried this Chinese place near our friend's vacation house. The food was decent but did not live up to the mark of other great Chinese places I have been to in the DMV area. The service was good and fast. There were not many people in the restaurant when we got there. The area is mostly known for seafood restaurants and it's hard for Chinese food places to keep up. The woman taking our order was the kindest person we met on our weekend getaway. Ordering orange chicken, wonton soup, sweet and sour soup, and teriyaki chicken for our five-year-old daughter, it was ready under 10 minutes and cost around $30. Your typical small-town Chinese-American: heavy on the oil, low on the flavor. But at Great Fortune they throw you a curve ball: breaded and fried Kung Pao chicken. I have been a regular customer of Great Fortune since the time before their move to the current location (twice a month or so for dinner and once every couple of months for lunch). My dinner experiences and in-house lunch experiences have always been excellent. Food has been of high quality, well-prepared, and with courteous wait staff. During more recent take-out experiences of the pandemic, the quality of the food has been so-so, and yesterday was terrible. I called in my order for cashew chicken on September 1st at about 11:30 and was told it would be ready in ten minutes. I picked it up and returned to my office to eat it. The chicken was all very dark meat and there was a great deal of gristle. I did not have the time or the inclination to return to Great Fortune to return it, and ate only the rice and egg roll and threw the rest into the trash. With fewer customers coming to restaurants during the pandemic, restaurant owners may be tempted to buy food of a lesser quality so as to protect their profit margins. I suspect that is what happened in my case. This decision results in a poor customer experience, and I am not inclined to return. read more

Service was aweful. The owner took 3 glasses off a table and told us this table is ready but never came to wipe the table off. We waited for more than 30 mins to be asked for our drink order and menu choices. Feona never once came to the table to simply say i will be with you all or while you are waited let me get you some wontons and dip. We repeatedly witness other people coming into this establishment bring greeted and order taken immediately. If you're in NNK and in the mood for Chinese, Great Fortune is the way to go. The service was excellent and very friendly. The lunch menu was fairly priced and had a large selection of lunch choices that included the entree and soup or egg roll. I'm a soup kind of gal, so I opted for the hot and sour soup and choose a scallop with mixed vegetables dish. Before the soup came we were served a hearty amount of crispy fried wonton strips with a sweet sauce for dipping. Our meals followed shortly after (within 10 minutes!). My dish was delicious! It had a lot scallops as well as snow peas, mushrooms, baby corn, bamboo shoots, and a few other items all covered in a sweet brown sauce. I was pretty happy with being full from a very affordable lunch. Another incredible dish would be the crispy chicken. We went here with our family of four and two friends who are married because we were visiting the area and we were in the mood for some Chinese food and our research indicated this had good food. We ordered Vegetable Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Singapore Noodles, and Pork Fried Rice to share amongst the six of us. My 6 year old son and 10 year old daughter loved the vegetable Lo Mein. I really enjoyed all of the food but loved the Mongolian Beef. My wife thought the Singapore noodles could have been spicier. They didn't have sriracha but they had chili oil. Our friends thought they were too spicy though but they did enjoy everything else. The kids wanted to buy another vegetable Lo Mein to go cause they liked it so much. We were surprised to find a quality non-fast food Chinese restaurant in such a rural area.
