Since moving to Urbanna 11ish years ago, Something Different has been our primary go to for many family get togethers, date nights and whistle wetting. The food is consistently good, if not excellent, the service is friendly and when we belly up to the bar Tracy takes great care of us! The atmosphere is unique, happy and irreplaceable. I'm especially happy now that brunch is back because when we have family visiting, Sunday is now marked by spending time with them vs. hours in the kitchen! Something Different is a gem. read more

What a great find in the cute town of Urbanna! Stopped in for a late lunch on a beautiful afternoon and it was still packed inside. After eating the yummy food, I can see why it was still busy! Drinks has a fresh squeezed limeade and hubs had a beer and we both enjoyed them. Shared the pulled pork sandwich and tried both BBQ sauces and all of the above was excellent and a good portion of pork. The house made chips were also good and we got a side of their homemade ranch and honey mustard to dip the chips in! Dessert did not disappoint as we also shared the amoretto pecan pie! So good! They make all desserts in houses and it was hard to choose just one! Just means we have to go back to try another one! Service at first was a bit slow due to the restaurant being packed, but our server was kind and sweet, as well as apologized for a little bit of a wait. There is a large dining room, with a few high top tables and a mixture of large and smaller tables for seating, as well as a large bar area. I visited Urbanna with some friends and we decided to shop and try this fun restaurant. The server was great and we were promptly seated. The server was great about checking in and refilling drinks. I had the Southern Comfort sandwich and it was excellent. One friend got the She Crab Soup and said it was some of the best she has had. Definitely worth a visit! read more

My husband and I decided to stop in to have a late snack. We ordered a late snack instead of dinner. When we got there we got seated right away and received our drinks and food right away. Then we sat there for about 20 minutes and I had to ask a different waitress for our bill. Then our waiter came over and asked are you ready to pay? He took our plates and then never returned. The same waitress took our check and then we waited another 15 minutes. Finally she brought it back. Then we paid and nobody returned to our table. The food was good but our service was disappointing. We won't be back!! read more

I'm a local and used to love coming here. Unfortunately the service has gone downhill. I'd recommend going somewhere else in Urbana. We went over the weekend and my order was prepared incorrectly. They took it back and returned 1 min later. When I asked if they just picked off the incorrect items, they laughed and said yes. Instead of the manager coming over to make it right, she returned and chastised me (guessing to take the focus off of their mistake). She then went over to the bar and began making fun of me for the way I ordered. Unfortunately, they've fallen victim to unprofessional rude employees. read more

Stopped here on a family trip. It's hard for me to eat out because I have Alpha-Gal. I was prepared to watch my family eat and just sit there. The server, chef and owner had other plans. Was in Urbanna a couple of weeks ago visiting family and this place is an absolute gem! Ordered the tri tips with broccoli and mac n cheese, and can strongly say this mac is fantastic. I am very picky about mac n cheese-- it is sort of a block mac n cheese, not overly creamy or cheesy, but absolutely delicious. Tri tips were fantastically tender and barbecue sauce selections were great! Waitress was extremely attentive and the lemonade is made in house, not with a powder. Love love love! read more

Both the food and service were excellent. It is truly a neighborhood/family restaurant. The ambiance was so welcoming. We both had appetizers and entrees and all of the food was delicious, but the barbecue was outstanding. We took home homemade ice cream for dessert, which was the "adult" variety. You just can't beat this place for brunch, lunch or dinner!....And, the nostalgia of it all. How many restaurants can you go to where almost everything you eat is homemade, even the ice cream!?? Located in the seafood, laid back small town of Urbanna, Va......Something Different does not disappointment and keeps me coming back for more when I come to this town to visit family. The smell of fresh out of the oven, raisin bread, calls your name, to take some extra back to DC. Something Different cooks all their sauces, dips, ice cream, breads and beautiful pies in house. Peanuts are roasted there too. In houses roasted coffee is served in a french press with fresh cream. We came here on a Sunday for brunch. We enjoyed beignets with our fresh coffee for starters and fresh, buttermilk biscuits. I couldn't help but to notice huge BBQ smoke out back and so I definitely knew I was going to order the rib plate. It was outstanding!! I mean everything was delicious, even the cold craft beer! In addition, we tried the "Southern Comfort" Sandwich which comes with tender, mouth-watering brisket and pimento cheese--slathered in BBQ sauce. We also tried the Crab Cakes and Soft Shell crabs with sides of spicy hoe cakes, green beans and mac & cheese, fries and onion rings. ANNNNDDD, if that was not enough food, we tried a plate of smoked wings! Being from the DC/Maryland area, the crab expectation was high. Well, this place...knocked it out of the park. It was all great...Thumbs Up!! Now top it all off with homemade ice cream from the Bakery attached to the restaurant....one word....HEAVEN!! A brunch fit for a king and nap worth for sure. Love this place! Their version of a cuban sandwich is unreal. Try-tip sandwich, also excellent. Brisket was a perfect medium/medium rare. Try-tip is well seasoned. My vegetarian daughter LOVES their beyond burger. Collard greens were fantastic. Oh, and the Mac'n cheese.....!!!!!!!! I swear they've got somebody's southern grandmother blessing that kitchen. Urbanna is such a cute little town to walk through and this restaurant was a perfect place to stop and eat. The environment was busy, but enjoyable. They have a full bar with lots of different beers on tap and a full bakery on the other side with delicious homemade ice creams and pies. My husband and I ordered the sweet potato tots to share, they are amazing! We ordered a serving to go as well. We also had their soft shell crab and crab cake sand which, both of which are good. Their homemade bun was delicious. I highly suggest stopping in, it is definitely the most busiest place in town. read more

Lunch on a rainy Wednesday and it was a pleasure to go in a friendly place and have good food and good service. My grilled hot dog with apple butter and mustard on a snuggle bun was excellent! Would have not thought of that combination but it works. The crab cake sandwich was very good with tasty fried crab cake with little filler on a fresh roll. The potato salad was good old fashioned potato salad made with egg. The homemade chips were dark, crispy and seasoned well making a good compliment to our sandwiches. The sweet tea was also fresh and very good. The molasses gingerbread with lemon sauce was absolutely delicious! A good place for a good meal in 'downtown' Urbanna! read more

We recently had lunch here while we were on vacation. The service was excellent, our server was attentive without being intrusive. We had the loaded onion rings to share. They were so flavorful and truly loaded with delicious brisket and bacon and cheese. We had the fried oyster sandwich and the Mixto sandwich with their homemade chips. Both were delicious. Our granddaughter tried the homemade vanilla ice cream in a homemade waffle cone which was also very good. We highly recommend this place! read more

Food is not the same as before! Everything our party of four had was nasty! Bloody Mary's were not good (flavor was not good and didn't taste any alcohol) crab cakes terrible, no flavor and mushy, so they had to have been frozen! Burger was nothing to write home about, Reuben was saucy and tasted funny & SheCrab soup was nasty disgusting! Staff was nice. They open now at 11 so no breakfast or brunch as of now. This place was something different.... how ironic. We were staying in Urbanna for the holiday weekend and got out to explore the historic downtown on the wonderful self-guided walking tour. That took a lot of out of us on a hot, hot day so we needed to fuel. We had researched Something Different a couple different times. They oddly close early on Sunday so we didn't think we would be able to check them out.. low and behold we snuck shortly before their closing time. Server was friendly and patient and we checked out the menu. We grabbed the loaded fries as an app. She came back shortly after and mentioned they were out of potatoes but opted to cut some more for our order. That is what I'm talking about! Customer Service at it's best. If you read or have read my reviews you know my frustrations on non-fresh french fries and places choosing frozen or just cutting raw taters! That is indeed something different! Thank you Something Different. My girlfriend ordered the pulled pork and she thought it was very good! I ordered the Virginia Sandwich, again something different for sure. Both the turkey and ham was a spread - not what I was expecting but it was very good. Meat - Fire - Good! Had expectations of a great meal and wound up with one closer to mediocre. The staff were all very good but extremely busy since, like most places, this one is short on employees. The restaurant was clean as were the bathrooms. My wife ordered the smoked salmon with sides of green beans and Broccoli. I ordered flounder with onion rings and green beans. Both dishes came with cornbread hoe cakes. The salmon was good but the flounder was only tolerable. My flounder was actually tough. Some from cooking and some from chewy breading. One fair sized piece of fish was all I got. The onion rings were plentiful but only warm and again with the chewy batter. Good enough flavor but hard to eat. Our green beans were good. Wish we had more. The hoe cakes were greasy. A piece of cornbread might have been better. I got a slice of apple pie for dessert. It tasted good but was pretty thin. All in all it might have been better if I stayed away from ordering something battered and fried. For the prices I expected better quality at least. read more

Uh-MAZING FOOD! I was in the area for work and my customer said if I had time I should shoot up to Urbana for some good sandwiches and man were they right! The sweet tea was perfectly southern sweet and the "Southern Comfort" sandwich with pimento cheese and brisket was mouth watering. I was lucky enough to slow down shoving the delicious sandwich in my face to get a decent cross section picture. Highly recommend. If I'm ever near the area again I will most certainly visit. Second time here. First time about a year ago had the brisket with onion rings, very good and the service was excellent and we gave a generous tip then and today, and that's what the 3 stars are for. As for the crab cake, not very good no stars for that. An unusual flavor which coincidentally not much crab flavor at all. Don't get it! The texture and cook on it was ok, it wasn't over cooked or wet. They just need to either use a different crab or get some good flavor in there to make it unmistakably a delicious Virginia crab cake. Very disappointing. If they are using canned crab, they need to stop it and use fresh Virginia Blue Crab that has been steamed with Old Bay. Then you will have delicious crab to start with and fresh is best. I know it's expensive but that's what it takes. I don't usually give bad reviews but I do have to share our opinions on here. read more

Traveling back from Williamsburg and doing the backroads and small town route, we stumbled upon this little gem. Greeted upon entering and seated quickly by the hostess/bartender and our drinks were ordered and delivered quickly. The waitress was very good and answered all my questions regarding their menu and I decided upon the cheese steak while my wife got a turkey sandwich and we also had an order of the loaded fries. Delicious in every way! The bread was straight out of the oven fresh and though not a "traditional" cheese steak, it was amazingly flavorful and very filling. The loaded fries were fresh, tasty, and loaded with all kinds of goodies and cheese. I highly recommend this place and will be back again to sample some more from their large selection. read more

Returning from a wedding and famished from a long night of celebrating (while also being completely unaware of the area), we stumbled on this place via Yelp. After we had several laughs about the restaurant's name (it made sense later), we had a short Mother's Day wait and then some quite delicious food and drinks. The restaurant is quaint, it's an old grocery store, and appointed in a way that is both homey and hipster. There's a large bar with what appeared to be friendly patrons and a large TV beaming sports, an expansive dining room, and a bakery just off the main dining room, where they ask you to wait for a table. (My sister ended up buying two of their amazing pies because of that.) We ordered tasty cocktails, had amazing food--the crabcake and Virginia salad were as good as they claim--and had *outstanding* service. Our server was crazy friendly and hilarious. Let me tell you, she has pure charisma running through her veins. If you want her to wait on you, and trust me you do, just ask for the server who's a huge South Carolina fan. She's the bomb and will NOT let you down. My only disappointment was they were out of oysters. But, considering it was Mother's Day, I totally understand how that could happen early in the day. All was forgiven. So, Something Different was truly something different. It's a funny name until you realize that they do things just a little bit differently than other restaurants. Wife and I were in Saluda looking at land and decided to try this restaurant on Saturday after reading a few reviews. Most notably for me was a review on this places Bloody Mary. As a big BM aficionado, I decided to try it myself anyway. Mistake. By far one of the worst I have ever paid for. Watered down tomato juice, a big chunk of celery and a lemon wedge. No flavor, horrible. Please, owners and/or bartenders, figure out a good mix, homemade preferably put some flavor into it and garnish appropriately, olives, shrimp, lime, etc. On to the food. I ordered the muffuletta. It came on be an in house brioche bun, very good, same with the wife's burger. Could have used more olive spread but a 5 out of 10. My wife ordered the bacon cheese burger, she let me have some and it was good, patty tasted fresh and not frozen. Chips with both were not a good choice. So bottom line I never truly judge a place totally on a first visit, so we will give them another chance, but there are numerous other options in the nice little village of Urbanna. We've had breakfast here on Sundays twice and both times stuck with our favorites. Schweetie loves the omlette and I love the eggs Mornay. The omlettes are large and come with toast. He had the pulled pork option this past visit and it was STUFFED with meaty goodness. The eggs Mornay is a bit on the small side but makes up for it in flavor. On the bottom is a homemade bun with two eggs on top, smothered with cheesey Mornay sauce then broiled! I wish it came with a side of home fries (I'll have to add that next time!) Ice tea is great but hope to come back later in the day sometime as they have a really good beer list, too. read more

We saw a couple places we haven't tried yet and found ourselves heading to Urbana for another visit to Something Else. The food has always been amazing and we always attempt to try a new menu item because they have all been awesome. Today, we tried the loaded onion rings and they were out of this world!! Kaleb was great. Amazing service and perfect recommendations. The Tri Tips and the steak and cheese were great, the drinks were perfect and the service can't be beat.
