My mom and I have been to Bubba's several times. The fried fish is always on point, never salty and tastes fresh! The crab cakes, oysters, shrimp, fries, sides and even the hush puppies are delicious! The portions are plenty. Oh, they also have the bomb chilly on occasion! It's nothing fancy from the outside, but they served up a nice combination of fried fish and steamed shrimp that were both very well prepared. The steamed shrimp had a nice amount of OldBay without going overboard, and the fried flounder was cooked just right, light and flaky and moist inside, crispy outside. I got coleslaw and green beans as sides, and both were excellent. Honestly, the whole meal was delicious, far exceeding my expectations. Definitely so glad the owners of Acme Antiques recommend this spot! It's like a gem of a restaurant. The food was so good. My mom and I ordered the large fried Fish (whiting) and shrimp platter with fried okra and hush puppies. Everything was fried to order and fresh. The ladies I think were the owners we very welcoming. We will definitely be back to eat here again. We have been to other Bubbas and so was anxious to try the one in Tappahannock. My wife and I both ordered the fish and shrimp. Both were very tasty. However the fish was very slightly undercooked and the breading was falling off the shrimp. However the taste was there and the waitress was very friendly. In addition, this location offered a couple of dishes that I haven't seen at the other Bubas, including calamari so we will definitely be back. read more

I eat at restaurants all the time. One per day minimum. I look down on fast food and don't like bland chain joints. I love to find great seafood. I'm 54 years old. Spanish is my first language but I lived here in the U.S. for 35 years now and get English. The staff are very sweet to me. Of all the seafood places I have ever tried in my life, even since I was a kid, this is the one I love most. It is perfect in every way. Bubba's recipes and their cooking create for me the most romantic and fun dining experiences in all of Tappahannock. Very small place, a little hard to find in the Food Lion shopping center. Very neat and clean, nicely decorated, only about 8 tables. Very friendly staff. When I ordered I thought it was a little pricey, but when i got the food i realized you really do get what you pay for. One meal was fried shrimp, flounder, fries and cold slaw. Other meal was shrimp, crab cake, fries & slaw. They have several combination choices, we got the large baskets. Probably should have ordered the smaller baskets. They also have a variety of sides. Crab cake was excellent, lots of crab & very little filler. Shrimp was well cooked, not tough. The Bubba sauce is a little spicy but good. Flounder was very good. I'm not sure who's responsible for making the macaroni and cheese but they added everything but the cheese- even toddlers and small kids, who have refined palates when it comes to all things mac & cheese, were less than impressed. If you plan on getting your sauces, don't, they won't be in there. Don't expect the fries to have salt or be cooked to any degree of readiness- if you fancy adding your own salt and tossing the fries back in the oven at home, then you'll love them. The only thing propping up those two stars is the fried fish. I can't speak heavily on the service as I placed my order online but nothing in particular stood out, bad or good. Something about their quality took a sharp decline after their reopening- the price seems to have increased while the quality took a major hit. read more

The catfish was hot, flaky, juicy, lightly breaded and flavorful!!! They truly care about the taste of their final product! It was a rainy day in the Northern Neck and we had decided to go wander around Tappahannock to visit some antique shops that we had driven by dozens of times before. It was around lunchtime, so I broke out the phone and decided to try to find a little place that we hadn't been to before and came across Bubbas shrimp shack. Bubbas is a small storefront restaurant tucked in behind the Burger King in the Food Lion shopping center. If you did not know it was there, you would never see it as it is blocked by the Burger King from the road. However, if you are looking for fried seafood baskets or sandwiches, this is definitely the place to go. My wife and I split the Bubbas basket which consisted of catfish, flounder, shrimp, oysters, and two sides. We went with the hush puppies and french fries. The oysters were a little small, a little over breaded, and a little overdone, but the rest of the basket was pretty darn good. When I come back, and I will, I would definitely get something that had lots of flounder. Either a basket or a sandwich, but the flounder was absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend Bubba's as the folks working there were extremely friendly, the pricing is very reasonable, and it does not take long at all to get your food. read more

I wasn't expecting much since it's local and in a small strip mall area, but wow, it was amazing. Words can't describe how good the food was. I had the oyster basket and a side of fries and hushpuppies, and yes it is a little expensive but it was so worth it. the oysters tasted like they were fresh caught and the hushpuppies and fries tasted amazing as well! I definitely recommend getting the bubba's sauce, it's savory yet has so much flavor to it (if you like spicy stuff, I recommend putting some HotTexas hot sauce in to make it a bit spicy). This was my second visit to Bubba's but the first time they were only doing takeout. My wife and I went there after Church on Sunday afternoon. When we got there someone was waiting for takeout and when they left we had the whole place to ourselves. We went to the counter to order, the girl sitting behind the counter didn't say anything she just looked at us with a disgusted expression. There were two others there also and they were talking one to the girl waiting on us and the other one was sitting on the floor fussing at someone on her phone. Finally I went I said , "HI." She shifted her head a little but didn't speak. So I just began to order, then my wife ordered. She finally spoke and said: "will that be all?" I said yes. She made the order and we found a table to sit at. Our meal came up and she brought it to us. This would have been a two star review up until this moment. As we ate the food was really good. I mean really good for fried shrimp, perfectly done! There was no music playing in the place, which usually doesn't bother me because I prefer to talk. In this case it would have been preferable to listening to the young lady on the phone who was becoming somewhat irate with the person on her phone. Upon further reflection, I probably took this wrong at the time but one of the girls standing behind the counter, watching the parking lot blurted out "why do people gotta be coming here now!?" I thought: "Wow! That's pretty rude." Later as I thought about it I realize she probably meant when her shift was about to end. There was another lady that came out the back, probably a manager or owner. She came out and checked on us. She also got something for my wife. I felt sorry for her because she looked over-worked. She looked a little flustered like she had been working hard. Except for the excellence in the food this would not have been a good experience. The food was so good I didn't have the heart to give it a 3star rating. I would like to go back if only to see if we caught it on a bad day. I'm afraid the service may chase some people off, but the food was almost worth the hassle. read more
