I really enjoyed Great Harvest. The seating was one of the first things that stood out, and when I walked in they were offering samples and the staff was genuinely welcoming. I also liked how open the space felt you can see straight into the back and the bakery itself, which makes the place feel more inviting and authentic. I tried the sour cream blueberry bread, and it was honestly really good. I took some home and enjoyed it later, though after a few hours and into the next day it lost some of its original texture. That might've been on me since I just left it on the countertop. Still, I'd definitely recommend stopping by, whether you're interested in trying some of their more interesting flavors or just want a solid loaf of bread. read more

Excellent local bakery with a large selection of regular & specialty breads & cakes, which they do offer by the slice. If something isnt out, be sure to ask - it may still be cooling on the rack & too warm to put out on the shelf! Their Asiago bread is quite good with soup & for sandwiches. This bakery seems to specialize more in in bread loaves than desserts or other small bakery items. We came in on a Tuesday and there were almost completely sold out of any products. The blueberry and peach scruffin had eggshells that I unfortunately bit into, but it tasted nice otherwise. The egg and cheese roll had decent flavor, but seemed underbaked, and I recommend taking it home and toasting yourself for a nicer golden finish. The barely cooked hash brown pieces on the roll inside threw me off as well. read more

Last week I grabbed 2 loafs of bread and when I went to check out I asked is this bread todays and was surprised that I was told it was yesterdays and sold at the same price as todays. Yum! I give this place a 5 star because it truly can not get any better! What place offers you a variety of different scones, muffins, etc, to sample while they bag up your order? That's true customer service. The cinnamon chip scone I tasted as my sample was divine...I had to get one for my daughter as she loves scones. I, typically do not like scones, but this place might change me! In my bag was a loaf of honey wheat bread and some pepperoni bread. Both loaves were still warm/hot as I left and the lady was kind enough to throw in an extra bag and tie to put the bread in when I got home in case the first bag got moist from the heat. Again, who the heck thinks of all this for their customers??? SO SO glad I did a search for best bread in St Paul the other night, otherwise I would have never known of this place. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Isn't everything better fresh? Fresh baked cookies, (one of my favs), fresh made pasta, and how about fresh baked bread. How many times have you had a sandwich that could have been much better with great bread? Well Great Harvest provides all sorts of wonderful breads for all occasions. Need to eat healthier, try their High 5 Fiber. It has flax seed and all sorts of good ingredients for you. I for one will tell you I am not a fan of these healthy items. That being said I usually buy at least 4 loaves of High 5 Fiber at a time. I love this bread. Its my favorite item to toast in the money outside of their Breakfast Blast. Other breads we love are their garlic-cheddar buns, Red, White and Blue bread and their Sourdough. Their breads freeze well which is why we buy in bulk. At Thanksgiving time they have a sage bread that makes killer stuffing. They also sell all sorts of other goodies like cookies, scones, buns and even make sandwiches on their breads. I love that when you walk in, the kitchen is open and you can see the breads being made and baked. Their prices are very comparable to store prices with the exception that you are getting a fresh baked item from their kitchen. The staff is friendly and they always have tasty samples. They have several locations throughout the metro area and each location is owned independently and have different bake schedules and deals. This is the most unusual, delicious bread. Its thinly sliced, but very dense. You also don't refrigerate it to stay fresh. They have a monthly newsletter that list all the specials. It's good to pick this up because they have a lot of variations. Once I picked up a loaf at Kowalski's, and it's about two bucks more, so it's worth it to stop at the shop. Then you know it's always fresh. It's also in the vicinity of some other favorite places, and next to 526 Salon. On Mondays don't bother going til the afternoon. They start everything from scratch that day, so nothing is on the shelves in the morning. read more

I was house-sitting in the neighborhood a few weeks ago and when I remembered that Great Harvest was right around the corner, this became my regular breakfast stop for the duration of my stay. PLUS: Delicious, inventive breads like the bruschetta bread with tomatoes and pesto baked inside. The fabulous creation known as the "scruffin," a half scone half muffin which is basically a softer, sweeter version of the traditional scone--so moist, no butter needed. Dunn Bros coffee for the taking. MINUS: Sandwiches are a little over-priced for what you get and the service could be a lot friendlier. When the owner serves you, she's great, but some of the other employees are gruff and not very knowledgeable. I became the "duchess" (according to the new Foursquare-esque rankings used by Yelp check-ins) of Great Harvest in a matter of days, so I guess that's a testament to it's overall appeal. read more

So pretty much all I have to say, is, spinach and feta bread. I mean spinach and feta is really one of my all time favorite-in-the-whole-world combinations ever. Like ever. Which is cool with me, I guess, but can they turn that power towards something like bagels? Then after than interior design. Then I would be happy. They were pretty picked over, and I had heard about their spelt choco chip cookies. I was informed that they were out, and weren't planning on making any today. Based on someone's recent review, yesterday I purchased Panettone from Great Harvest Bread Company. I called ahead, they said they had 2 left, and if they were from a dated batch that was not disclosed. It was wrapped with a decorative tag, no where did it disclose the bake/packaging date. Cons: Caveat I am new to MSP and had to pick a place to get the New Year Eve and New Year morning tradition treat of panettone. 1) It was packaged with two separate layers of plastic and film so I couldn't view the product and no visible ones were on display. 2) The bread tasted like a biscuit that had the right fruit additions in it. 3) Bread was not sweet or airy at all. 3) Heavy texture. 4) Rather than being a lovely high shape it looked like a rustic loaf of bread. 5) Totally ruined the tradition of enjoying panettone on New Year's Eve night and breakfast the next morning. 6) Great Harvest selling me the only bad $11.99 panettone I've ever had. Pros: 1) Staff was nice on the phone when I called ahead, asked about the fruits they included in the panettone (so I could verify it was the real thing, hah, hah), and requested they set aside one for me. 2) The tasting of some fruit bread I had at the till was good -- but the butter was not. I had envisioned driving to the shop and dropping the rest of the loaf off to prove it's clearly a bad product. However, no need to have a pal on the new year by pretending that staff would care or feel a professional indebtedness to send me home with something else to enjoy -- something that can be taste tested from the bread board at the till ahead of time. read more

Yes, that highly-treasured, time-efficient way to ensure Leah gets the carbs and sugars she needs, in scone form, on her way to work- I have found it. It is called Great Harvest on Selby. Great Harvest, as a independently-franchised company, makes the best goddamned scones on the planet. Whether you're into savory or sweetness, their scones are substantial, non-crumbly, tender confections of love and berries and (my favorite) cinnamon chips and most importantly- butter and cream. If I'm not getting 40% of my daily dairy with each bite, I'm not interested. That is not a problem here. And only a $1.50. I mean, this is proof that god exists as far as I'm concerned. read more

Really not that great. Poor quality of ingredients, and bad flavor. It is hard to find a bakery treat, especially cookies, that I seriously did not want to finish... And the prices are a bit steeper than other places nearby that DO use higher quality, locally sourced, some organic ingredients that are MUCH tastier. I will not be back, but predominately due to the oatmeal chocolate chip being not just completely lacking in any taste (how do you mess up a cookie that bad?) and more importantly- it gave me a stomach ache! Recently, my hubby picked up a rhubarb coffee cake from the Great Harvest stand at the Nicollet Mall farmer's market. Unfortunately, when we tried to eat the cake, the rhubarb was already fermented. Yuk. He called Great Harvest, and they were more than willing to take the cake back and let us get something else. We stopped by the Great Harvest location on Selby to make our exchange. The staff was friendly, even though we came in 5 minutes before they closed. They never rushed me in making my decision or told me they were closed, which I appreciated. They had lots of goodies that looked delicious, including a cherry cobbler cake and blueberry bread. In the end, we decided to get a half dozen cookies (a mix of oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin) and one of their chai bars. The chai bar was amazing. It was similar to a pumpkin bar with cream cheese icing. You could definitely taste the chai spices like nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon in the cake. It was super moist and flavorful and I would definitely get this again. read more

Of all the healthy things that a person should buy from this place and I do...I have an addiction to the Cinnamon chip scones they make! There are like the ones Starbucks offered ten years ago before they decided to cover them with sugar and ruin the flavor of the scone. They are light fluffy and for me the perfect complement to a cup of coffee. Buy the way I have a friend that came and visited me he walked down to the bakery one morning and sampled one of the hot loafs of bread that came out of the oven, bought one home and proceed the eat the entire thing it was so good. It's true: I'm a bread-aholic. I love the bread at Great Harvest and try to stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood. The quality of the bread is fantastic and I like the opportunity to spend some time checking out the available varieties. I particularly love the Pepperoni Roll that's available on Saturdays -- it's greasy, spicy and just a perfect weekend treat - and the Oregon herb. The white bread makes great toast that's ready for a slathering of peanut butter. They also have great cookies (Oatmeal Chocolate Chip!) and always have samples available. TIP: Save the paper inserts in the bread bags and trade them in for a free loaf after you collect 12 of them. read more

I appreciate that Great Harvest knows what it does well, and does just that. If I want a loaf of good bread, I can walk in, find the bread, and leave. In addition to every day varieties of bread, they have some really good "special" breads, like the Potato garlic (Garlic Potato?) bread. It's super dense and chewy, but really tasty. I feel like many people assume that bread of this variety is much more expensive than what you get at the grocery store, but for the slight cost increase it totally kicks your home-made lunch up a notch. I have not actually visited a Great Harvest Bread store, but I make a stop at their Minneapolis Nicollet Mall framers market stand every Thursday morning! I can not resist the Rhubarb Apple Crunch bread. It is dense, chewy and has a great crunch topping. I think it is meant for one, but it is so large that I can eat half for breakfast and save the other half for an afternoon pick me up. The staff is always cheerful and nice, even as the weather turns cold and rainy. I will be sad to see them pack up for the winter. read more

What do you do after a bomb a$$ meal at Revival? You head over to Great Harvest and grab a couple loaves because...carbs. This bakery was poppin' so the boo and I decided to stop in to check it out. We got the pepperoni roll loaf and grabbed some bites of the blueberry muffin, spinach and feta bread, and egg nog tea bread. All were delicious but the spinach and feta bread really stood out. I feel like it would be perfect with some sun dried tomato spread and roast chicken. The pepperoni roll bread did not disappoint...layers of fresh pepperoni and garlic rolled in doughy goodness. The ladies behind the counter were kind and helpful and seemed to really be enjoying their time at work. They had a ton of pre-made soup mixes for sale so that's definitely on my list for next time. We get the white rolls for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, whatever. They're super soft and dense and taste like homemade, the highest praise I can give. Another favorite is the Spinach Feta bread, for bruschetta. OMG yum by itself too. My mom-in-law lives north and asks us to bring Great Harvest bread whenever we visit. Any kind, she loves it all. The best bread in town. This is the only bakery in the cities that bakes small batches with fresh ground flour. I'm off New French lately. They are getting very corporate and their flour is pretty much the same as they use at Byerly's. French Meadow has gotten all weird putting protein powder in most of their breads? What up with that? Lame! So I'm left with Great Harvest. Luckily they stock this stuff at my co-op, but if I get a chance I like to stop into the bakery and buy the bread, check the samples and maybe get a sandwich.
