Cheez Pretzel $3.50 Curry puff roll $5.50 Ham Croissant $6.00 Kolache $5.50 Solbolle $5.00

First time trying this neighborhood gem and bought a box of pastries to sample. Little did I know that Laune leans heavy into using whole wheat and most of their items are vegan! It does make for a heartier and denser taste - which takes a bit of an adjustment for me on the pastry side. Next time I aim to try their breads as I tend to enjoy whole wheat breads more.

Impressive collection of unique breads and sweet or savory pastries! The jalapeño cheese pretzel has deeply browned bubbling cheese all over it, with bits of jalapeño and tons of flavor. The blueberry polenta scone has a really nutty (but no nuts) grainy flavor. It has a crunchy craggy exterior, soft crumbly interior, and filled with little wild blueberries. I will definitely be back to try the other selections!

My favorite bakery in the cities. They're open breakfast and lunch hours and offer a wide selection of whole-grain, creative breads and pastry. There is a small core menu but everything else rotates seasonally and they've got a "bakers whim" load that changes weekly with what they have on hand and feel like making. The owners/bakers and staff are all extremely helpful, friendly, and happy to answer any questions you have. They do a lot with the community and local producers to promote inclusion and sourcing as close to the oven as possible. I dropped off a bunch of cherries from my trees and they gave me some store credit! All their stuff has a high percentage of whole grain which gives it a fantastic earthy flavor without being bitter. Most of it is also sourdough which makes it more digestible and gives a nice tang. On Fridays they have pizza that's amazingly flavorful. Their cheese pretzel is naturally levened, fluffy, and just salty enough from the cheese. Haven't tried the simit yet but I'm sure it's amazing. I'll be back as soon as I can justify more carbs!

I am so glad I got to stop by. I came in and got cinnamon roll, curry lentil roll, and a sourdough bread. Everything was very good. I liked their cinnamon roll a lot. The lady working behind the counter, probably the owner, was very nice. I just wished they open daily. Next time I will buy a bunch of breads and freeze them because I don't bake. :)

Just inside their front door, to the left.

Masters in the baked goods arts. Smaller shop for seating, but always a bit of a line, which is a good sign. High quality bread!

Chef Pedro took our order (bonus points) and we had a lovely conversation about New Orleans. The menu here has a lot of New Orleans food intertwined. Based on where Pedro previously worked in New Orleans, he has an outstanding culinary background. I was going to order the Muffaletta, which can be served hot or cold, but they were out. When I heard why, I was impressed. In New Orleans, the gold standard of bread is Leidenheimer. Minnesota doesn't have the same bread (Trung Nam Bakery is the closest substitute). Pedro uses Leidenheimer for his Muffalettas. Pedro also makes his own olive salad. I am looking forward to trying a Muffaletta. My husband ordered the Zambon Dip and really enjoyed it. I had the Herb Brooks Focaccia. It was great. Big portions. What is really funny is I knew the North Stars as I worked at the Met Center. Fun memorabilia too. On street parking and some tables outside. What we used to call a neighborhood joint. Stop in and say hi to Pedro. Now I just wish he would make Gumbo with some okra and filé.

It's well away from the beaten path of downtowners, tourists, and suburbanites and I think it can truly represent what locals like in a deli. There are some great sounding sandwich combinations on the menu. Unfortunately, during my inaugural visit, they could not make some of them because they were out of key ingredients. That seems a little lame for a shop that only does sandwiches but it gives me an excuse to go there again to give it a try. What I did taste (a Dino Italian Sub and a North Star Deluxe) were well above average. Maybe not legendary but certainly exceeding a typical sandwich from a chain franchise. The prices were also about 1/3 higher than a typical chain franchise but I guess you get what you pay for. I liked the hockey themed schtick of the place and the young guys manning the lunch rush could all pass for avid hockey stars which fits the theme since the shop seems to be named after the old MN pro hockey team (North Stars). The only thing that was not super authentic about them were the lack of extreme mullets and they all seemed to have a full set of teeth. The sandwiches are fairly large, messy, and tasty. There are some great sidewalk tables to enjoy your lunch on a nice day. They even provide local hot sauce (Cry Baby Craigs) on the table which is very un-Minnesotan due to its spicy kick. What's not to like? If in the area, this is a definite recommendation to change up your lunchtime boredom with the same old same old.

Instead EVERYONE is 100 % natural welcoming laid back and genuine in wanting to see you content and pleased. Nothing is ever pushed onto you. The quality of the pastrami, its seasoning, the textures and bright flavors of the breads and bagels the nova the chopped liver the extra creamy marinated Cole slaw and perfect half sour pickles ( wISH they had bialys!). All perfect. All old world. Our favorite very old deli in West Palm Beach was sold 1.5 years ago and gone gone gone are the DELIGHTFUL happy charming old staff and the perfect old world flavors, cooking. In Sarasota where we just lived the last 5 years, a new deli closed after just 2 years, and there is nothing left. We've been visiting family in Sarasota every year for 40 years. Gone too in the Twin Ciries is the ownership by brothers Scot and Stu of Hopkin's beloved Crossroads Deli just last year. The new owners, a corporation owning 6-8 other restaurants have CHANGED almost all the recipes for breads, cakes , wonderous cookies and 80 % of all pastries! No more butter, no more fine ingredients and no more of their once " Grossinger's taste/quality" STELLAR seeded rye bread! They even eliminated the lemon flavoring. In their incomparable lemon coconut cake! Their stuffed cabbage is one of their only true deli dishes left. Sandwiches are half their original size...... heart breaking after going there 3-4 times a week for 25 years........ Cecil's of course had to cut back on the $$ use of butter in their pastries. But they have WORKED VERY HARD to still retain their wonderous long long ago heart warming flavors. ALL their sandwiches are AUTHENTIC. Old world New York City flavors! Made with care and love. My husband loves their beautiful generous Nova salmon platte. Noshing away happily! I love their pastrami Rachel's with plentiful half sour pickles lots of Russian dressing and creamy Cole slaw. Mmmmmm. I hope and pray Cecil's owner refrains for a long long time from selling his rare business. We must support Cecil's too.... Or lose it with all the others, and lose part of our joy and heart. Thank you Cecil's .....

Old school all the way. There's a restaurant in the back, and a full-scale deli counter in the front. It is such a good stop. They have their own private parking lot too. Wood paneling, and a bunch of local reviews all over the walls. Clean, normal sound. Simple, with excellent customer service, and a huge menu that will have something that you like. Packed the midweek afternoon we visited, and we did not wait for a table. Loved my bowl of Matzo Soup, superb broth and the Matzo was delicious. Enjoyed my BLT on whole wheat and the homemade potato salad was amazing! Had a cherry cobbler for dessert that was incredible. Restaurant has been open for over 70 years, and I met the owner/manager, Cecil, afterward, and he just oozes customer service being a priority. It's a must-visit place.

On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

I was on the street in front of Clancy's when one of their customers was mis-identified as an officer of an organization that was terrorizing Minneapolis. It had nothing to do with Clancy's! As I tried to get to my car, people yelled the most obscene and disgusting epitaphs at the couple in front of me. I was just walking down Grand Avenue. They were even spitting at this innocent individual. As a liberal who marched for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s, I was horrified. Blaming Clancy's is ignorant, and an integral part of how this country is dismantling. Clancy's Meats & Fish is important to our neighborhood, and represents the kindness and empathy that has been representative of Minnesota for decades. Give them your support.
