Great Harvest is a local classic. I have many memories of going here with my mom when I was little, always awed by the fresh smells, impressive variety, and, if I had been good that day, delicious flavors:) I chose to pick up a few pastries here for my birthday. Due to Covid-19, I had to order ahead of time and pick up my pastries inside. The website was very easy to use, clearly providing a list of the available products. The interior appeared to adhere to all Coronavirus health requirements, and the woman that helped me was friendly and happy to help. Now down to the treats, the important stuff. Raspberry Scruffin: If you are all about fruit-related desserts, this thing is for you. Raspberry flavors were very present in every bite, and the dough was remarkably soft and fresh. Frosted Cinnamon Roll: This was excellent, the frosting complementing the roll marvelously. I warmed this one up and it was so much better, but it started off pretty good too. Chocolate Chip Shortbread: I am not a huge shortbread fan, but this treat was darn good. Crumble-in-your-mouth, just as shortbread should be, and the chocolate chips contributed significant sweetness and texture. Give this one a shot if ya like shortbread. Overall, Great Harvest continues to impress; make sure to stop by the next time you're in Tonka and are feeling something sweet! read more

Why didn't I know that this place made phenomenal sandwiches before today? Unhappy with my last Lakewinds sandwich I opted for GHBC today. Man did I make the best choice. Game changer. I ordered this month's special; chipotle turkey on honey wheat. While I waited I was offered and accepted samples of other breads and treats. I sampled a big cookie bite and cheddar jalapeño corn bread. I almost didn't need my lunch after that. I can't tell you the last time I had a full on slice of bread and not a cheese cube size sample of anything. Go here. Get the punch card and be rewarded after 12 visits. Be happy. read more

I do not have a single negative thing to say about Great Harvest! I have been coming here for over a decade and have come to know Ruth and other staff members. All are always so kind, welcoming, and happy. Their honey whole wheat bread and buns are my favorite! My family is also a big fan of their groovy granola. My dad and I love getting sandwiches there after training sometimes. We've come in so often that were considered regulars and they already know our order! If you're looking for muffins, this is the place. I've had half of one of their muffins with strong black coffee for years now and they are amazing. Moist and just a teeny bit crumbly whole grain. No icing--absolutely not needed. The ones with fruit or berries are transcendent. The others with chocolate are only delicious. The store also makes truly great bread--the high five fiber makes any sandwich into a fine meal. They've turned me into a bread snob and I'm glad. read more

For me, there are a couple of things that stand out about this Great Harvest: * always cool music playing. Michael (owner) has eclectic taste in tunes. * pepperoni rolls - virtually impossible to not finish the whole thing once you start. This place has awesome bread at fair prices--I wish I had one in my neighborhood! Everyone was super-friendly, including the guy outside sampling grilled bread, which I couldn't resist adding to my BBQ later that afternoon. (It turned out great btw) I truly believe that everything these guys bake has to be delicious, but on this particular visit I picked up the Parmesan Focaccia and "Flip Up" Pesto bread. I'm not a huge fan of soft and cold sandwiches, I'm Vietnamese and grew up only knowing that all sandwiches should taste like banh mi's. For my quirky taste in bread and meat, this place has does have amazing sandwiches. It's not the quickest place to stop for lunch, the menu/ordering process isn't the easiest, but the staff is friendly, bread is tasty and ingredients are fresh! I love when the holiday season is so crazy I can just call up and order ahead. When I arrive, my bread is waiting for me and I get out the door quickly! Everyone is very nice and greets you. The kid working on Wednesday before Thanksgiving kept apologizing for taking a little longer but I get it, tis the season! The bread from here is incredible. I've grown up coming to Great Harvest, so it has a special place in my heart. However, even after being away for college and traveling other places, it continues to make some of the best bread I've tasted. I enjoy their savory breads as much as I love their sweet breads. In Great Harvest, you'll find a counter where they have a myriad of breads and muffins that you can choose to taste. The employees are more than willing to explain the different breads and will cut off a slice of whatever you choose, then you can feel free to spread butter on your chosen slice. I'd highly recommend the honey wheat bread, as it is my favorite. I recently tried the Popeye bread, which was a great savory bread and would be delicious for sandwiches or accompanying soup. I love this place. I love the smell of it, I love the taste, I love the friendly staff. I've tried the honey wheat bread, the cinnamon raisin rolls, the cranberry scones -- and it's all good. They always have yummy samples for you to try, too. This place is kid-friendly and the owners are very generous - they donate to local school events. A bright and clean little bakery with a wide variety of typical and inventive types of fresh bread. This morning I had a tour of the Great Harvest Bread Co in Minnetonka. Ruth, the owner, gave interesting information to the preschoolers as well as parents and grandparents who were chaperoning. She showed how they grind wheat to make their own whole grain flour and also how the large floor mixer is used to make dough. Many other steps in bread making were explained as well. Everyone left with a delicious bread stick. Many thanks to Ruth for being such a friendly business person who shared her behind the scenes story with us today.
